The linus's dad meme hurts me inside, but hey lets see how long we can keep it up
see some resemblances there ..
It would be cool though
What's this joke about? I was shocked when he said this and assumed it's a joke. But this seems more deeper.
Linus has his eyes!
@@bhavyajain638 It was a question on the Inflation vs building a pc video
I legit thought you actually had a son at Linus Tech Group, you got me on the first half not gunna lie
I understood that referance
he is!
i love you man, your videos have gotten me into computers and out of some hard times. Thank you!
Oh man I love the comedy. Tech Yes is on fire !!!!
"QCNT, code name for an engineering sample with 6 cores and 12 threads..." Bryan, I wasn't wearing my glasses and all I saw was "C*NT" whilst I was already pissing myself laughing at the Linus line. Got my glasses now and feeling a little stupid XD
LOVEEEE the old school command & conquer song for the ending!!
You find some of the craziest stuff man! 🤘
Been waiting for 8th gen videos!!
You are so inventive.THX.
Gotta love Linus' dad, can see where he gets his skills
I like your videos bryan its very interesting to see some affordable computer builds.❤️
reminds of the days when you could buy that 100 dollar skylake i7s
The one from Linus' video?
@@tidjane2001 nah brian also did a video in what I think was 2018 i think the cpu was the QTJ6 or something
@@bepisman3161 Nope, it was a QH8G (double checked the vid). I had the sister-model QH8F fully working at 3.77 GHz though due to A0 (=earliest somewhat stable engineering) stepping it had RAM stability problems under load. My sample was above average seemingly, many were stuck below 3.7 GHz on normal cooling (200 MHz to delivery usable performance as it only has 16 or 18 multiplier (depending on board/BIOS) which will not even net you 4 GHz on 220 MHz whereas most others would "only" need 300 MHz BCLK.
@@aoelp yeah I rewatched the video, also damn man maybe you hit the lottery on with yours but back in the day they were still quite the bang for buck only rivaled by the used xeons
Amazing i have been dreaming for this.
I'd like to see more laptop cpu adapters, not just the bga ones even. They would be great for really small sff boxes, and even the smallest desktop coolers should kick butt on any laptop cooler.
Linus's dad always bringing that next level price performance 1337 hackery. Use the force Brian. Keep teaching your young padawan those skills.
Hope your knees are ok! Thanks for some solid content! ✨
more of these videos please!
Hey Yes Man! I just picked up an untested Gigabyte B360m motherboard for 10 bucks, and I came right back to this video to plan what might be my Best Ever value for money build!!!
I'm using the X5670, got it for $16 and is on par with the i7-3770.
Totally trash. Once a cpu hits 8 years old drops half performance instantly. Lol 😆 but seriously its probably 75% as powerful as my 7700. Granted.. I paid $30 for it.. you still have a decent setup.
The DNA test says... you ARE the father!
(Not sure if they had the Maury Povich show in Australia)
We sure did
It was on Foxtel (pay tv) only, most Aussies would know it from references to it in other American media.
Linus‘s dad 🤣🤣 Man I love this channel you’re the best
Great channel. I think Gigabyte motherboards are preferred because of the Q-Flash feature which enables flashing of BIOS without CPU and Memory installed with just a USB stick.
My mistake. I think the 300 series of Gigabyte do not have Q-Flash Plus. Only Q-Flash.
those are next level
jank 😅 I love them
Y’know, that 8700B sounds strangely like an i9-8950HK because oddly enough, that ~100 watts of power is what I get running the same 4.3 GHz all-core under load (when it doesn’t thermal throttle) with that chip inside my Alienware 17 R5. AFAIK, the i7-8750H only clocks to 3.9 GHz on all 6 cores though I think there’s also an 8850H that clocks a bit higher.
I'm tempted to use one of these in a 24/7 home server
With full overclock(it's limited), the cheap one goes up to 78w on hwmonitor and scores a bit higher than the 7700k on cinebench multicore and lower than the 7100 in single core. It did throttle on the stock Intel cooler though.
There's a modified i9-9980HK (non-ES) if you can still find one. I'm using one right now, and it performs similar to a stock i9-9900(K), but the chip is almost impossible to cool even with a decent 240 mm AIO. Running all cores at 5 GHz is limited solely by heat, since it's gaming-stable but will quickly hit 100°C under stress-testing and throttle or freeze.
A "workaround" I found is to set custom turbo ratios in the BIOS. I'm using 52/52/51/50/49/48/47/46 at 1.35 V adaptive, which passes stress tests without sacrificing gaming and lightly-threaded performance. It does often get over 90°C in things like Handbrake, but that's normal for a mobile chip, and it doesn't throttle.
They have also made an i9-10885H conversion, which should turbo up to 5.3 GHz with power limits removed. I might get one for comparison if I can find it at a decent price.
Oh boy, I would like to see some budget builds centered around those type of CPUs
I have an ql2x CPU in my xpenology nas with a Gigabyte h110-d3a and a cheap watercooling it's working fine and the igpu is Amazing for my Plex media server, transcoding 4k easy. And the power consuption is fantastic for an 24/7 system
I got a QQLS for 138€ paired with EVGA z370 micro ATX and it works very well, but I had to flash the modded BIOS with a EEPROM programmer.
Using QQLT bga to Lga i7 engineering sample in z270 mb. 6core 12thread clocked 4.8 all core. 8 months no issue. But would go 10400f if doing new build now. Unless you have older mobo want refresh
You got me good with the Linus being your son comment.
TECH YES CITY is in the house! Wooooo baby!!!
Will be great when engineering samples like this for Ryzen mobile CPUs start showing up.
Man, this looks like a fun tinker project to make a neat PC out of... Too bad I have no need for another PC nor the time to do it
The i7-8700B was first up in the Mac mini 2018, fwiw
AT least a video of these mutant cpus nice to know how they worth...looks like you can get incredible performance/price for budget PC!!btw qnct was about 60euros on aliexpress i see they got a bit more expensive...
unable to comply, building in progress.
nice music at the end :)
Silos needed.
Let's rock!
Aaaaaffirmative.
I got my hands on a QQLT. It overclocks to 5.1ghz all core. The only thing it doesn't like is when i touch the memory speeds. it will not go higher than 2666(2 dimms) or 2400(4 dimms)
“My son over at Linus tech tips...” >>>>> me snorting my drink through my nose. Thanks for that.
Hey bryan, I know you have tried out GD900 and love it. I have bought some as well because of you. However, I hear HY880 has better thermal conductivity, I would love to see a roundup of more cheap aliexpress thermal pastes. Thanks
Nugget of truth about why prices are going nuts, thank you.
Looking good today Bryan! ;)
Giggidy
Daddy bringing the YES value ;)
I would put a shim or little foam pads on it to lower the risk of cracking the die.
these lga 1151 mutants are amaxing value, im personally using a 2286m (i9 10980), the performance is unbelievable and thanks to direct die cooling it sits at 23c all day at 4.4ghz
I got mine from the man that supplied linus for that video
the heatspreader is mostly to protect from people turning on their computer with no cooler installed and killing the chip. few people would actually do that, but engineers would do it a lot to test things out in the old days.
The champ
Had that one working on a Asrock Z170M ITX/AC but managed to brake it using carelessly a tower cooler. Since then I bought for the same board a QQLS 4.1 Ghz on all cores. QNCT is a very viable option for low end sky/kaby lake boards, using 40w a 3.3 Ghz and just about any stock cooler
Is that 40w at the wall? Like have you measured it? If so, I think that's probably my ideal CPU for my planned use case.
@@ALmaN11223344This is a limitation of the CPU, it will run at 40,45W and 3.3 Ghz all core. In all honesty, it's performance is close to a Ryzen 2600, but you need to finnick with modding bios, something that can be a pain. There's a 11800h CPU+MB combo on Aliexpress that right now are an awesome choice for the price, and it's just plug and play
@@alexandredossantos718 Doesn't quite fit my use case it seems unfortunately, I need ITX and got the QNCT with a preflashed board and RAM on eBay recently. The 11800h is also much more consumptive a part than I'd like to get for this use case, that being a travel server.
@@ALmaN11223344 I see. You can't go wrong with the QNCT then. I've got mine paired with a T400 and a 300W SFX power supply, very capable combo for a little bit of gaming below 1080p and specifically in my case, for simple editing at 4k in Premiere Pro
@@alexandredossantos718 I'm planning to run it with a pico PSU and a 12v 10a brick inside a case the size of two coke cans with 13TB of Unraided storage lol, but it seems more than adequate as a moderately powerful travel server for Plex and games and such!
that linus dad thing had me rollin' lol
Great value for people who can buy them on the cheap. Here in South Africa we pay double the price in shipping from Aliexpress 😏
Interesting. Am curious about the coffee lake refresh ones. Am on 6C 9600k and that's been pretty good to game on.
Tech YES Janky! I love it!
Damn your notifications are fast ...I arrive at 2 views 12 likes lol
@@marty_nz Mine still says No views. lmao.
I recently picked up an i7-8700 and 32gb ddr4 2400 for free, paired with a $50 asrock z390 pro4 (new from Amazon) and a $250 gtx 980ti, runs pretty much anything 1080p max settings. The whole system (case, 500gb ssd, 1tb hdd, psu plus previously listed parts) cost me around $500
atleast the notifications are working fine
I think they're both winners, maybe not on price point, but I really do admire the fact that they exist... In a world where e-waste is ever expanding and it's not always even recycled, saving these engineering samples from the pile is an A+ for me.
At the very least.. it will limit the sales of the enemies intel and amd. Keep these old parts running until you literally can't game on them.
Honestly these cpus are the best value because it remind me of the 771 to 775 mod :)
Dad looks like his brother. It's called good living 👍🏾
I'd be interested to see the QNCT in direct comparison to the Xeon E5-1650v2. It only maxes out at 3.5GHz, but it's still doing great work for me.
I am planning to build low power consumption "CCTV recorder server" on one of this CPU`s. I think I could fit under 50 watt running.
Yes,yes yes
Are you gonna do a video about the 9th gen
8C16T parts like the QQLS and QS0N?
Plz
Got a 10900T from aliexpress (QTB0). Can highly recommend. Barely needs cooling because 35 watts and games fine (comparable to a ryzen 3600 at half the power) and relatively cheap. 20 threads baby...
@@everope can confirm this, a good choice with a b460.
@@everope could you pls give a link to the one your purchased? curious to see what the prices are rn.
@@ripwildy2022 roughly 200$
Waiting for i9 laptop processor video😍
I'd sooner go back to my x5650 Xeon then do a bare die system like this! There are seriously so many options for 6c/12t cpu's rightnow, I wonder which is the best value and preformance.. Very recently i got an insane bargain on a complete system with a (geniune) i7 8700 (non K), though I still game without a hitch on my 6700T (w. gtx1080ti).
Most second hand systems I see around here in the Netherlands are 1st and second gen i7's and 3rd and 4th gen i5's, a testament to how good the chips following those gens are holding up for most people.
4:55 It shows up as a Xeon? That's a good sign!
@wakenbaker-uk whats the cache
I had an nforce 750 sli board in the late 2000s, and my core2quad q8400 showed up in Windows as a generic Xeon
@@licksludgee Nice!
@wakenbaker-uk it was a joke lmao. "whats the catch"
It’s funny that you’re owning the whole Linus dad thing. It’s actually a compliment in my opinion. Like how in the 90s everyone used to be like “who’s your daddy?” As a sign of male dominance. Although, I’m guessing the person who commented on your video asking if you are Linus dad, they are probably a child and may not get my reference
I used to clamp down 1st gen Athlons with 500lbs of force on the heatsink with a flathead screwdriver... i'll be fine with this direct die chips.
LinUS DADDY!!!! instant sub!
in Germany you could get the i5 10600kf for like 180 Euros. I know that's a bit more than 167 AUSD, but you get a new CPU that's working out of the box opposed to the 8700B.
0:28 my freaking god, even if its just $70 I would still hold it like a baby
After years of tinkering with PCs you become numb, I remember when my brand new 3900x fell of my hands, lucky it dropped on heatspreader side, so no damage at all.
You should do a collab with miconst hardware, he’s a god of the AliExpress cpu stuff
Oh my god i swear i was waiting for it saw it on ali express and was curious what it could do
Can u do QQLT too plz plz
Command and Conquer! :-)
Holy crap, Bryan went back in time or something... he looks younger!
He moves so fast he travels through time.
Hair cut and dye.
Little bit vain but......meh each to their own
@@onyachamp I know, I was poking some fun
I recently saw this on aliexpress
Very interesting! I am wondering if the ES cpu's could be made to work on a HP Prodesk 600 G2 Mini?? It has a Q150 chipset, so in theory it should support more cpu's then HP officially supports.
I got one recently, with an i5-6500T, but there is very little usable info on bios modding these sff.
Outro Song: Act on Instinct (remastered) - Frank Klepacki
might be a viable solution for z170 mainboards as well, i am currently running a Gigabyte Gaming K3 with modified BIOS and modified i3-8300
This is Linussss' real dad, he wants his son back.
Esse CPU é top, o QTJ2 é bem semelhante, um pouco mais forte!
Um bom cooler para ele e o cooler master i70c
Ótimo vídeo!
I agree
@DEUnainfoGAMES qual placa mãe recomenda para o QTJ2?
I'm so glad I got my £90 R5 1600 AF when I did. It was such a bargain at that price.
I wish I did the same :(
I'd test i7 8700 with 8700B, because they're EXACTLY THE SAME, just that one is desktop on LGA1151, the B variant is mobile with BGA1440 array...
Oh I remember the direct die days
I'm using a Ryzen 5 1600af i got for 80€ pretty happy with it
Was using a 4/4 cpu the change was noticeable af XD
Linuses dad...that's me....lmao.
Lol i was thinking of doing this for a b250 itx. Just not enough research for the highest core count cpus that is supported
i5-10400f goes on sale for $141, and 3600 for under $200. I wouldn't even consider this stuff, just hang tight.. Just got one from staples this week.
you really should make a vid on each of those Chinese engineering sample cpus, its super interesting, i just bought 2 qcnts, are there lga 1200 es cpus?
Miyconst tested this too, he called those CPU as mutants
i am dreaming of a coffee lake with some cream xD
OMG, the Linus' Dad meme is incredible.... :D
Recently performed this mod, can't figure out why my temps are so high. Using a QQLS 0000 with my noctua nh-d15, have taken the cooler off and tried making sure it is making contact. Looking at the coolers bottom there was an outline of the die so I don't know what to do.
Wow
Looks like the $70 ones are history.
I feel like the x5675 is the real competitor for this cpu, would love some benchmark comparison
that Xeon will not run modern games
This also shows another thing clearly:
Intels 8xxx Series could easily compete even with Zen2 (Ryzen 3xxx) in productivity and efficiency, but it was Intels decision to rather go for higher clocks (whic does cost more die area as well) rather than more cores and sacrifice the efficiency for that.
I wonder if these would be good for video editing and streaming.
I have this cpu in a laptop that died. I wished it could still be of use
I don't know if it's worth the hassel. I think I'd go for the 10400f/11400f with a ~$135 mobo. More power and easy of use.
Interesting video, what is the best 1151 cpu.?
