So give the 7000X3D a better base processor to work with and maybe even increase the 3D cache over last year (there IS physically more room to work with given the added height of the 7000 IHS to match the AM4 geometry...and you could have an insanely performant chip. Also, IF (big if) you are the type of person who upgrades the CPU often, you have longevity with the AM5 platform that you won't get with 13th gen. I can test 3DS Max but with what scene, the results mean nothing to anyone as the scenes will be custom with no historical or third party testing data to compare with. The SPEC tests aren't all that valuable either as they're just viewport tests which at this point is testing how much faster than already fast enough does it orbit a scene. The likes of CFD is so niche that again nobody has created a standardised test for it, and on what suite, there's tons of them with little to no demand. They already did that with Win7 (which was a great OS) after launching Win8 with that avangarde UI (that no one asked for), and they're doing it again with Win11. After 3 more years of stabilization, when everything finally works well and everyone gets used to it, they will launch Windows 12.

Overall I would 100% agree that AMD needs to drop prices, performance is generally close enough with Intel, considering Intel is gulping down so much more power, but AMD cpu's absolutely cannot be priced higher if they want to push any sort of sales volume since AM5 current motherboards are insanely priced compared to their Intel counterparts. Plus for gaming, it makes more sense for me to just swap out for a 5800 X3D if I thought I wanted more gaming fps (since I already have a AM4 setup), which honestly needs a price cut as well.

    Nice seeing solid competition between AMD and Intel. Will be interesting to see how AMD's X3D CPUs will perform coming next year when they'll get released.
    I'm not in the run for a new CPU yet, but this is excellent news for me down the road in a couple years when I want to upgrade my CPU/Mobo/RAM platform. Can't say I'm terribly thrilled about the direction the competition is driving in regards to energy consumption, especially given the rising energy prices. 300W CPUs, 450+ W GPUs ... those are expensive prospects in the long run. I hope they'll start shifting their focus on power efficiency and not just to increase performance for the same power draw!

    • @Torrrero
      @Torrrero Год назад +1

      I don't understand all this power consumption whining, at least about the CPU. If you want lower power consumption you just put around 80w limit and still get around 95% of performance. Is it that complicated to do? Or is it just laziness? There were many videos and information about how efficient the new CPUs are and how much faster they are at the same power usage. For now I don't care how much power it draws, I want absolute maximum performance. But when I will care I can set limits and problem solved. On the other hand, if AMD / Intel will design next gen CPUs for lower power usage, including motherboard VRM and all other tech, you will be happy, but I am not because I can't force CPU to use more power and get max performance, it's not designed to do so.
      I hope it will stay the same and the manufacturers will just spend some time and money to teach people how to set lower power limits in a few clicks.

      @@Torrrero You're going to to have to explain to me where I was whining. I merely said I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of the industry pushing higher power consumption to get higher performance given the ongoing economic situation and that I'd much rather have a stronger focus on efficiency. Nothing I said should warrant such a defensive and at points confrontative attitude.
      And you should probably also take a moment to reflect that such concerns don't have to be apply stringently across the whole portfolio. Nothing says CPU manufacturers can't strive for as power efficient as possible CPUs in the low-, mid- and high-performance tiers and STILL offer CPUs with greater powerlimit tolerances for the enthusiast consumers/OC afficionados. Me and you getting what we want isn't a mutually exclusive zero-sum equation.

    • @johndoh5182
      @johndoh5182 Год назад

      @@Torrrero AMD Zen 4 is what gives you near 90% of the performance going all the way down to 65W ECO mode.
      But this misses the point really. The point is these CPUs, other than the 12900K and 13900K use only a fraction of their all-core load power during gaming. The 12900K and 13900K are pushed too much, and while that helps their gaming performance it hurts power consumption during gaming, so if that's your main workload then yes if you buy THOSE CPUs you probably do want to turn them down. For any of the AMD CPUs you only need to use an ECO mode if you're running all-core loads or you just don't like the idea of how the CPU works even though the design is perfectly fine, which is a ramp up in clock speed until some temp sensors hit about 95 C. However that doesn't bother me because it doesn't add up to much heat in the room, because a SINGLE sensor or two hitting that heat is a trivial amount of die space.
      You take a hunk of metal that's a 1 cm cube and heat it up to 95 C and you don't notice it heating up a room. You take a hunk of metal that's 1 meter cube and heat it up to 95 C and now your room is an oven. In other word if I don't notice it heating the room I don't care. AMD is using TSMC N5 which has about 2X the transistor density of Intel 7A, so a single core heating up to 95C isn't as much area.
      If AMD would add more ECO modes I'd probably use it. Like for their 105W TDP parts if they had an 85W ECO mode and 65W ECO mode that would be nice. And for their 170W TDP parts they should have 150W, 130W, 105W, 85W and 65W. If AMD did that I'd buy the 7700X3D and set it at 85W ECO and be quite happy about it.
