As visceral and unsettling now as the day I came home from school and watched this on the telly. Verily a singular waxing and a unique band.

From a recent book about Toppop: this is one of the first videos filmed at the Toppop studio (Bellevue) in Amsterdam, shown on the first episode of Toppop. It clearly shows the simple setup and looked somewhat amateuristic. The band had apparently forgotten that the solo on the single was played on tenor sax instead of on flute.

This looks like a later incarnation of Family with Poly Palmer and John Weider miming to Jim King and Ric Grech's parts on the studio single. Jim King (saxaphone) and Ric Gretch (bass/cello/violin) had left the band - Jim sacked, I believe, for over-indulgence in pharmacuticals, whilst Grech had unforgivably walked out as their US tour opened to join Blind Faith. So with multi-instrumentalist Poly Palmer (on flute here) and basist/violinist John Weider in the band the live performances were heavier and more raucous iirc. Pity the BBC didn't have them record their own version to mime to. Great signature song from Leicester's finest. Great vocalist in Roger Chapman. Fabulous live band.

Anyone would know that TOTP's is ALL Playback. WHY did they NOT put WHO is in the Band? Ric had left to join/form "Blind Faith", which is what it WAS, VERY short-lived. Also founder member Jim [King] NOT in this video!
