John Wetton made any band he played for aggressive and dynamic, brought them to a higher level of musicianship. He elevated everyone's playing within the band, he was a true master of his craft.
agreed
"Chappo" is one of the greatest singer ever!!!
this is fantastic, the best band ever.
my jaw just dropped. I've listened to their every album but i have never seen many videos of theirs! I've been surfing on youtube and accidentally happened upon this gem... incredible. right from the very first beats before the singer even began.
Great footage, and for once i'd not seen this before .
A Fantastic Group. Especially with the Great John Wetton in the line up. Thanks for Posting.
They were ahead of their time then, so when you listen to them now, they sound fresh and very much alive.
Fantastic video never seen it before. Followed family and roger chapmans career since I was 17 and I now 67 loved there music . Met roger a few times and it made my night chatting with him. Still rocking and doing his stuff to this day. brilliant thanks for posting .
Same here
Incredible version of Song For Me - the band is rocking!
Merci pour ce précieux document.
Roger Chapman, l'un des grands chanteurs de rock les plus sous-estimés.
They sounded excellent even when they were just jamming! :-)
wow wo wow the band in fine form. What a great clip!
As Fripp said, by 1972, Wetton was the finest bassist in Britain.
Whetton at 18:45 and onward..... wow!
super funky :)
very spinal tap with wettons and whitneys dbl (or is that dolby) neck guitar...just so crisp this version of family
Hi FamilyBandstand ! For your info, at 14:10 the commentary (well, translation) states that the French tour of 7-19 Feb is three weeks away and that the date of this recording is Jan 11th (1972 obviously). Hope it helps updating your great site.
Thanks! Added the info to the site
My pleasure. You specified the correct day and month but you left the year as 1971 :)
John Wetton before King Crimson.
you can hear Jack Bruce's influence on him
Famulous!
Poli Palmer is such a brilliant musician!
Chappo loved that stripy top!
In My Own Time 6:40
What is the title of the first song?
A Song For Me.
Unerreicht !
Is that Yanni on keyboards? :)
It's "Poli" Palmer.
I don't understand this band. The first two albums were just unbelievably wonderful. But every video I've seen of them performing is really disappointing and seems to have no relation to those first two albums. We have here just a bunch of a barroom bawlers.
Was there some unsung producer/engineer who managed to get these guys to live up to their potential in the studio?
+HummingLoud You are f^cking CLUELESS when it comes to Family! The frirst 2 LPs are brilliant. I just hated losing
Jim King, but each LP is different, groundbreaking progressive rock, jazz, R & B, Fusion... Each reincarnation of the band is indeed utterly fascinating, unique, brilliant and a part of rock history. I can't believe you ever even saw or listened to any "live" shows. This is where Family truly excels! Always tight as hell and a true pleasure to hear. The above video is a very nice example of how truly amazing when playing live. If you even listened to any Family LP after Entertainment, you would truly have to eat your words...
+HummingLoud Some years ago a video was released, not dvd, called I think,Psychorama? It had a selection of bands, some obscure and Family was one,the performance on that was great and I have sought them out ever since, but of course some stuff is, imho, better than other stuff, and belongs purely to my personal tastes..
You don't have to understand to enjoy this.
Fair point, a matter of opinion and no need to be abusive. It's not a sycophantic fan site - I am always interested to hear views that contrast with mine.
