John Wetton made any band he played for aggressive and dynamic, brought them to a higher level of musicianship. He elevated everyone's playing within the band, he was a true master of his craft.

They were ahead of their time then, so when you listen to them now, they sound fresh and very much alive.

Hi FamilyBandstand ! For your info, at 14:10 the commentary (well, translation) states that the French tour of 7-19 Feb is three weeks away and that the date of this recording is Jan 11th (1972 obviously). Hope it helps updating your great site.

I don't understand this band. The first two albums were just unbelievably wonderful. But every video I've seen of them performing is really disappointing and seems to have no relation to those first two albums. We have here just a bunch of a barroom bawlers.
Was there some unsung producer/engineer who managed to get these guys to live up to their potential in the studio?

+HummingLoud You are f^cking CLUELESS when it comes to Family! The frirst 2 LPs are brilliant. I just hated losing
Jim King, but each LP is different, groundbreaking progressive rock, jazz, R & B, Fusion... Each reincarnation of the band is indeed utterly fascinating, unique, brilliant and a part of rock history. I can't believe you ever even saw or listened to any "live" shows. This is where Family truly excels! Always tight as hell and a true pleasure to hear. The above video is a very nice example of how truly amazing when playing live. If you even listened to any Family LP after Entertainment, you would truly have to eat your words...

+HummingLoud Some years ago a video was released, not dvd, called I think,Psychorama? It had a selection of bands, some obscure and Family was one,the performance on that was great and I have sought them out ever since, but of course some stuff is, imho, better than other stuff, and belongs purely to my personal tastes..
