That was awesome!!! And, it's the happiest I've ever seen ole' Neil in the past 50 years. Looked like he was having a blast (and quite proud of himself because he trashed the strings of his guitar). Awesome!
If you think about it, this Beatles masterwork from Sgt. Pepper is the perfect cover for Neil, because he has always blended angelic melodies with mind blowing sonic wizardry.
After this incredible generation of musicians passed on, there will be a thousand years of silence as there is no one coming up behind them to replace them. We were even spoiled to have them playing for decades. That was unheard of in the past at least for Rock music. But I suppose it won’t matter to me because I won’t be around anyway. The newer generation will probably not care anyway about music so it doesn’t really matter. It’s definitely the end of a golden Era.
Neil is special for sure. In 1983 I saw him tour in 3 different genres,.1. Neil Young and International harvester { Southern rock}. 2. Neil Young and the shocking pinks {50s b-bop}. 3. Neil Young and Trans {computer synthesizer stuff-solo onstage- he played every instrument} With Trans- sometimes the song took 20 minutes for him to set up.
I was privileged to see Neil Young perform in 1969, then several times after. I watched him play with Cosby, Stills, and Nash also. I discovered the Beatles in 1963 and fell on love with them. So many other genius greats from the 60's and early 70's. Few even come close to the music of my generation. Maybe Radiohead, James, Pearl Jam, The White Stripes...I was able to share my music with my kids and they love it almost as much as I do. This was a brilliant performance. I played it several times. Wow.
This Generation have had excessively cool lives. Rock Gods pretty much their whole lives. They were there near the beginning and they’ll be the there at the end. Respect ✊🏼

I can’t help but wonder what Paul was thinking as he watched Neil sing John’s part to what is probably The Beatles most famous, if not best song of all time? (I believe he was thinking I wish John was here he’d diggin’ this as much as me.)❤️
Paul looks like he’s having a shitload of fun and doesn’t really care what happens. Ideal. And Neil going to town. Genius. Like two kids playing, the way music should be.
I am not sure where this has been floating around the the last few years but sure glad it popped up in my feed today. That was a truly epic performance by Neil and fantastic to have Paul join in.

oh Wow, how is this video not iconic in musical and video lore? Sir Paul, obviously in a surprise appearance on stage, and Neil there twisted up and shredding old Black 'till there are only 3-4 strings left...in classic NY fashion. and finishing the tune so beautifully. The age of great music has passed us by but it will live on forever. This Lennon piece was a monster among monsters. R.I.P.John.
mccartney wrote the middle "woke up . . )
@@tomgardner8825 That's how the story goes on who wrote what. One of their masterpieces no doubt about it
This was the most psychotic version of "A Day In The Life" that I have ever witnessed.
Neil young and Paul McCartney both great artists .
What a great video!!!
Neil tore those guitar strings up!!!!
Omg I watch this video often!!!
Legends of Rock!!!!!
I know 🤪🥴me too..
Yeah Neil does crazy well!
Bet it was pretty much the best too.
wow Neil Young OMG he owned that song. He totally shredded his guitar. Rock and Roll will never die. Very proud of you as a Fellow Canadian too. nice for Paul McCartney to give Neil his due,
Hey, hey, my, my......
I was right there at the front. One of the best moments of my life! Thanks for the memories!
That unexpectedly brought a single tear in my eye. Thanks RUclips and thanks David Towl. I never knew this existed and now I'm experienced once again.
just about the best music video I've seen in months. "Keep on rockin'' in the free world." - It rocks all the way through, but the ending may be the best part - two legends-just having fun
I love that Paul loves this song as much as we all do. The perfect Lennon-McCartney song
Hello 👋 olihayes
How're you doing
Thanks for being a fan of my musical craftiness,
It's nice meeting you here
Love seeing this wow Sir Paul with heavy Neil again, amazing stuff! thanks for the video
Mind numbing AI is sadly set to take over the creative musical force of such creative forces.
Neil is special for sure. In 1983 I saw him tour in 3 different genres,.1. Neil Young and International harvester { Southern rock}. 2. Neil Young and the shocking pinks {50s b-bop}. 3. Neil Young and Trans {computer synthesizer stuff-solo onstage- he played every instrument}
With Trans- sometimes the song took 20 minutes for him to set up.
Respect ✊🏼
Sounds like you never had an addiction, but they are great artists
@@Heatfarmer why would you say that ? What hocus pocus psychology are you applying ? I may have been addicted to heroin for the last 30 years, battled with alcohol on and off and gamble like money’s going out of fashion. I’ll just say this time you’re about as wrong as anyone could be.
WE LOVE THEM--THO NEIL'S CONCERTS ARE SELF DESIGNED AND PRETTY PRICEY.
@@billymack333 Trust fund baby were you?
Two great olds going at it as if they were still 25. Got to love them both! Thanks for making the soundtrack of my youth.
Rony Van der Linden we did have the best music by far 💖
They needed their meds after that song!
John would be smiling. I have nothing but the upmost respect for these two men. I love it how Paul gives the accolades to Neil at the end - so much grace. ❤️
Thank you times a million!
We were there very close up. Memorable moment when Paul McCartney came on and sang with Neil. Love Rick and Chad smiling away and Peggi's face at the end when Neil and Paul play the xylophone.
Great Job Neil. Only you can pull this off. I'm glad to see Paul and you having so much fun honoring this great song and Paul's Brother John.
This is without a doubt the best thing I've ever seen and heard on RUclips.
I was impressed W/ this find by RUclips too entertained, amused and Surprised 👏
Yes, I Agree
Good God bless us all.
I really needed that. Thank you.
I loved this, Paul had no ego just let Neil do his thing! Two great performers!!
All my heros are dying of old age but rockin their asses off til the end. Rock and roll will never die
Agreed✌️
hay hay my my
Its better to burn out than to fade away
Many of us will shortly follow and may go before them.
Yea true but don’t worry there are couple of 15 year old boys that are trying to take over the world 🤘(my band lol)
Thats how you shred a guitar. An outstanding performance from Neil Young, a total re evaluation of his capabilities for me. Respect.
Get Neil’s Live Rust album, you’ll wear it out.
Play that from low note to the highest note and breaks all the strings and Niel Young doesn't stop there. What an amazing performance of two legendary musicians.
Wow!!! Great video of two great musical artists. I have seen them both live in concert and nobody can beat either one of them in their God given talent. I have been to a lot of concerts with my son. Sir Paul always number one! Neil Young was next as the greatest that we have ever seen!!! Love them both ❤️🎵
I like how Neil Young can make any song his own. This was really good.
True. I mean, he also did the best version of All Along the Watchtower
Sput Nik no Hendrix owns that cover
I can’t help but wonder what Paul was thinking as he watched Neil sing John’s part to what is probably The Beatles most famous, if not best song of all time? (I believe he was thinking I wish John was here he’d diggin’ this as much as me.)❤️
He is true musical chameleon. He can do it all!
Neil Young: The most selfish performer in the world.
I was there with my with my wife Celia RIP in the pouring rain xxx
So sorry
What a wonderful life you two must have had together, and what an amazing show to be together at. Sensational performance. I wish I could have been there, and so glad to see it here.
David Slack ❤️
I don't know why, but reading that sentence just broke me. I'm so sorry for your loss, David, and I'm glad you have this - and no doubt many other - wonderful memories with your wife.
What a lovely memory. Hope you’re doing okay mate
oh Wow, how is this video not iconic in musical and video lore? Sir Paul, obviously in a surprise appearance on stage, and Neil there twisted up and shredding old Black 'till there are only 3-4 strings left...in classic NY fashion. and finishing the tune so beautifully. Awed and amazed here. Spectacular performance and thanks David T for providing this glimpse into a very rare performance of 2 truly legendary musical talents.
That's an honour for my country - for the British legend to perform with one of our Canadian legends. Way to go Paul and Neil.
Glad to know you were born somewhere on Earth

Wow thanks for this, clash of two geniuses
That was epic. Two great musicians showing love to each other. Neil Young always touches me deeply with his soulful voice.
Even Sir Paul McCartney stared in awe before a furious, tranced Neil Young thrashing away his Old Black. What a momentum. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
GASPING YES!!!!
BUT SIR PAUL IS STILL HIS EQUAL
Oh my God ... just discovered this video. Stunning, brilliant, can't stop watching. This IS Rock n Roll. I bet you were in a daze for days after filming this.
Wow! Amazing!!!!!! I got chills up my spine watching this. Great job Mr. david Towl ! Thanks for sharing this 'live' gem of a performance.
Much Love & Respect !!! That was absolutely beautiful..!!!!
Neil Young finds the essential elements of the composition with the minimum of notes on his guitar. Sheer artistry.
Amazing to hear Neil's voice singing this song. Nobody else could do it.
@@benmcgrath1925 Hi Ben, beleive me you dont 😄 !
But please explain to me if you can why should someone be sad for a lucky man who made the GRADE ?
I just maybe have to take drugs and sing along grade and not grave?!
I'm back to view this again and just look at those strings broken. Sir Paul is just in amazement
Very good vocal Neil!! Magnificent version especially with the one & only Paul McCartney!! Love it!!! John would have approved!!! Fantastic!! Love the ending on The vibes with Neil and Paul together just magnificent!!!!👍❤️
Thhis was great...first time I saw this...not a huge Neil fan...but grew up with his music. Enjoyed his rendition...wish Paul could have sang his part alone...but I am reminded of the reason a lot of these guys played music in the first place...because they enjoyed it! Signing with each other and just having a good time....and we enjoyed it too...thanks for posting!
Neil never ceases to amaze. Paul is ageless, and puts Class into everything he does. Long may they run
Definitely in the top 10 of rock stars who have aged gracefully. No, that doesn't even begin to describe it.
