You've been so helpful to me as I navigate and learn all about streaming. You explain things in a way that is easy to understand and then you actually link the equipment or resources you mention in the video description. There are so many people doing "tutorials" that never bother to show you where to find the stuff. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you. I don't do game streaming (though I do a bit of streaming - guitar lessons), but this was super-helpful. I knew there must be a way to record more or less as easily as with a webcam. My time is limited, so treating the DSLR as if it's a webcam in OBS should save me a ton of time while vastly improving the video I shoot. Thanks again!
Canon SL3 has a streaming feature. It's in the users manual. You can use their fual pixel auto focus while connected to the stream and not have the box around your head!

So I started streaming about a week ago and i just keep finding your videos everywhere I look. and they are all full of great information. your honest and to the point. I have subscribed to about 5 channels on youtube (I just dont like to do it) but im quickly becoming a fan and I appreciate all the information. Thanks for all the great content!
Just getting into streaming I’ve been doing RUclips for a while but streaming is a lotttt different! Your channel has absolutely helped me a lot so thank you for the videos!!
Ok I love this video but the one upgrade I dont get is the XLR mic. If you're buying a GOXLR mini and a Hyper X mic at nearly the same time then it seems like a bit of a waste to me. If the Hyper X USB mic costs $140 why wouldnt you just go straight to the PODMIC or Blue Ember and get way better quality for the same price
thank you Harris you relived a lot of stress. knowing that the stream doctor recommended the stuff i've been looking at the past few days. We appreciate all the testing you do for us!
I’d like to note that the GTX 1650 super coming out later this month will support the new Turing encoder for cheaper than a 1660. It’s my next upgrade for my streaming PC.
I love how you care about helping people with their streaming process and very detailed. This video helps a lot. I was wondering if you have a video for people who want to stream from a PC and play the game on a console.
Alpha Gaming, please make a tutorial on how to use DSLR camera for Streaming or recording without making the camera shutting off every 10 minutes please...
Depends of the camera, not all of them have that function, Lumix G7 does since i own it, and the Canon SL2 and Sony A5100 (this one can be found cheap second hand for 1080p 60) since they have been show here.
Great Video. I enjoyed learning about what's needed for streaming. This something I am thinking about getting into. I have some other projects I need to tackle first though. i.e. New PC, reconfiguring my computer space etc.
Nice compilation of advice :) I have a few questions: 1. If I want to stream 4k@60, is it possible doing from a single PC? I guess not, my laptop with 9900k and 2080 doesn't handle it. I can play, I can record showing 60 fps in obs, but when I watch replay it is just laggy. So most likely I need a 2 streaming setup (I already have an empty Corsair 1000D) So providing that I aim at 4k@60 or at least 4k stream, is it better to use x264 or NVENC? 2. Can a top CPU like Ryzen 3950x using x264 give a better quality than NVENC? Or the difference won't be huge and NVENC card is all I need? Just thinking whether I need to build a stationary pc in Corsair 1000D providing that I already have a laptop 9900k + 2080 In future I plan to run my main system on 3950x, and have a second system as a streaming PC. Or it doesn't worth it and I can just stream from one pc on 3950x? 3. What lighting do you use right now? Can you recommend some great lighting? I can see that nano leaf and Philips hue have stream deck integration. Thank you for your content, you are awesome man :)
Just wanted to say, really enjoy your videos! Have been picking out first streaming mic and was torn between USB and XLR - Was leaning towards the HyperX Quadcast and just went ahead and picked it up after spending a day watching reviews and comparisons. Appreciate all the info, learned a lot after watching a few of your videos! Suffice to say, subbed!
a small error you made Harris, the 4core/8thread cpu is the 3400G, the 3200G is 4core/4thread, but still is very good already for dedicated x264 streaming. although i would suggest in searching for a ryzen 1600 instead on ebay or aliexpress, they are quite cheap now and they work like a beast for streaming, add that the GT710 and that would be it, or even better, go for the GTX 1650 Super when it comes out since it will bring the Turing NVENC encoder.
I've got the Canon M50 and LOVE IT! But i haven't tried using it for my streams yet, don't have a cam link. The quality from this camera is GREAT! I actually have used this to film music videos, weddings, parties etc. So if you're curios about trying out the Canon M50 to stream I'd say you'll be safe in the quality department.
This is amazing man... 3rd straight vid of yours i've watched and your crushin it.. making me seriously want to dive in and start a stream.. although I'm still a little way off as I've got to grab a capture card and will be using a canon 600d.. so I guess I'll learn about those little canon issues once i get going...cheers again for a fantstic coverage of info..
Perfect timing on with this upload, thanks!! I just started and am moving into my new house where im going to put a lot of effort into my setup to make it as proffesional as possible but being sensible with money lol Feeling ready to go after seeing this!!
This was very informative. Thank you so much for going over this and I would have to say the biggest things I need are proper lighting and a better webcam since there is quite a bit of lag with my current webcam.
I've always wondered about XLR mics since I'm currently using a Blue Yeti. I just upgraded lighting. I think having more control over my audio is the next big step in my opinion.
FYI the GTX 1650 Super is showing up Nov 22 for probably around $200 (maybe less) being the new cheapest Turing NVENC card. Fantastic for a budget streaming PC!
I assume there's already 800 comments pointing this out, but NVENC isn't a video compression format like h.264. It is a dedicated hardware encoder built into nvidia GPUs that encodes video to into the h.264 (and other formats) without significant impact to other CPU/GPU resources. The quality is comparable to a "medium" setting in OBS software encoding. AMD has a comparable hardware encoder called AMF, but it's output quality is lower; its usually between fast/veryfast, depending on the bitrate and content. AMD's h.265 quality is much improved, but overall Nvidia has the better encoder. For streaming, it's still usually better to use the hardware h.264 encoder in most situations. For saving video you should be using h.265 (HEVC), regardless. Also, "Turing architecture" isn't the name of the NVENC hardware, that refers to the GPU design of Nvidia's entire RTX 2000 series. Now if you'll excise me, I need to go warm up the new F-150 engine in my truck.
Costco sells a 3 piece set of LED "under cabinet lights" for $30. These things are built exactly like photography lighting, have adjustable brightness, and are absolutely ideal for streaming.
Really love how a US $30 light on Amazon becomes $114 AUS ... :( love how the power supply cord for the Sony doesn’t ship to Aus and not available to buy in Aus. Damnit
I can recommend getting a Phanteks Enthoo 719 computer case. It fits 1 full ATX system + 1 ITX system and loads of cooling options to run them both silently. It really is a glorious case.
For very cheap starter kits, I highly recommend the FiFine K669B mic. It sounds just as good as the Blue Yeti but is way cheaper. In terms of webcams, don't get a C920. Get a C930e instead. It has the same quality but is cheaper to get (because it is intended for businesses rather than consumers and thus isn't affected by Corona price increases as much). It also has a much wider angle, enabling you to use that nice wide-screen look on your intermission screen. Just crop in the video on your game screen (you don't need 1080p for that tiny corner video anyways).
my set up for streaming is 1 PC Ryzen 7 1700 is cheap and still good to use. also i spent a bit and just got a headset with a good mic. for instance Corsair Virtuoso its the best! webcam c922. for lighting i use a 25 dollar led lamp with qi charging base called Tzumi which was like 25 bucks from walmart.
I bought the Canon EOS M50 over this past weekend. Only issue I have with it is that it doesn't have clean HDMI out but this is circumvented with the micro-USB plugged in and the EOS Utility. I can use the camera indefinitely as long as both the HDMI and the USB cables are plugged into the computer. Otherwise, the quality of it is amazing. The lens it comes with is great quality but I would like a wider field of view at some point. The adapter to use other lenses is $200 so that's yet another expense to save up for. I don't stream very often but I've gradually been building up my setup over the last four years. Now I'm at the point where I feel like the only real thing I'd need next would be a streaming PC as I've got everything else and am ready to go.
Great video! Not a streamer, but I am getting more into RUclips, and then I plan on streaming down the road. So there are some of these things that I am wanting like a new mic. Thought about getting the Shure SM7b, but I'm not sure I want to drop $399 lol
I really wanna know what camera do you use to record your videos and how do you colour grade everything step my step, if you could make a video on that it would really be helpful!!
NO. You said the Blue Yeti Nano is fantastic. I have had so much issues with it since I got it. It picks up just about every sound in my family's house. Thats a 2 story house, thats pretty big. And I usually sit upstairs in the second floor with my door closed. Now, I also use a Cherry MX Blue so it picks up every single sounds from that. I can adjust my gate so it don't pick up. But while playing a videogame and talking it interrupts soo much. Many complaints from friends on this. My Corsair Hydro water cooler is of course one of the louder ones. So It does pick up on that too. However doesn't pick up when not talking. ALSO! The Blue sherpa software for the microphone controls don't even reckognize the microphone. Which makes me unnable to adjust it in the software. Tried using other programs such as VoiceMeter, and the windows sounds settings. Neither fixes any of my issues. All in all I think the Blue Yeti Nano is the worst microphone I've had. Especially when I've used a couple other Headset microphones prior to this. My favorite would be the MMX 300 v1. Good headset too. (Too bad it broke) Just purchased the Shure SM7B. Hoping for it to be great! Not picking up too much of the excess sounds around me!
2:03 Well, I have the Razer Siren X, its not terrible but I could've certainly could've gotten a better one for sure. I might upgrade soon to XLR microphones at some point. So to make up for the Razer Siren kind of sounding bad, I use an application called VoiceMeeter Banana which allows me to increase the bass in the microphone, it sounds smoother and reduces background noises. So it sounds a lot better than it does out of the box. Good video though, Alpha.
That's the reality of upgrading...when you go from cheap to pro, there's gonna be useless components. Put em on for-sale forums or craigslist, you won't get all your money back, but a little cash more than throwing it in your closet!
The Alpha 5100 is a great camera. But i wouldnt recommend it for vlogging. First: it has an overheating problem. As soon as you record something directly on it, it will overheat within 15-20 minutes. It then takes about 30-40 minutes to be ready again. Can be avoided by using a dedicated recording device via hdmi out. But then the small form factor wouldnt count anymore. Also it seems the overheating problem only occurs when recording directly to the camera. Linking it to a capture card is no problem. But it wont be good for vlogging like Harris said. Also you have to keep in mind, that the Sony Alpha 5100 uses e-mount lenses. e-mount tends to be more expensive. but there are also e-mount lenses out there with good prices. But its harder to find. I am using the a5100 as webcam on stream myself without any problems. But this things you should keep in mind.
What are your thoughts on a good streaming laptop? I tend to travel a lot and have varied living conditions to a point where a normal streaming PC is useless to me most of the time, but still need to stream.
@ismini Quite a big difference streaming off a phone webcam compared to streaming on a PC with a graphical intensive game running. Mostly just trying to find a decent option with a thunderbolt 3 port.
Me: Buys usb mic without headphone jack. Alpha Gaming: After you picked up a usb mic with a headphone jack (which i reminded you like 5 times)... Me: ****
I went cheap on a power supply once for a laptop ... Three years later the thing exploded and started a fire in my house. Not worth the $5-$100 for that.
Exactly AC power converted to DC power. What happens is manufacturer's use cheap metals for resistance and current. Worst part! Never use a cheap power adapter for more than 3 months. Problem out of site out of mind. Next thing you know you destroy your laptop. ;-(
Can You also post amazon links for Canada? because some things that you have links for the US do not appear for Canadian site for Amazon. That would be really helpful
Canon M50 will not work for streaming, as it powers off after 30 minutes. Theres a work around by using Canons capture software in the background, but it has constant frame drops xD Not worth it. Good video as always Harris
I. Want. A. DECORATION VID! I have always loved the idea of doing some sort of decoration with cool lighting, but I can never find the stuff I wanna for my background!
FYI on Canon M50 - it doesnt offer clean HDMI, so not a good option for streamers. While there is an option using a 3rd party package to clean up the hdmi output, why have to use a 3rd party option for something that should be built into the camera to start with ?
Harris: Cards will be in the corner Corner: Nope. Harris: List of GPUs with the architecture will be here on the side Side: Nope. Me: Welp time to go to the description.
Would love for you to do a quality audio set up video for mic and headphones and everything for streaming with 1PC with console stream setup... All the other channels that talk about console streaming are pretty much garbage and don't exactly know what they are talking about you put out quality stuff that is extremely informative and would love to get your take on console streaming with a laptop or something of the sort. There are a lot of people playing on consoles that want to stream but only have a laptop and have no idea how to make a quality stream without big budget PCs.
What does your stream need the most? Be real with me here

All in all I think the Blue Yeti Nano is the worst microphone I've had. Especially when I've used a couple other Headset microphones prior to this. My favorite would be the MMX 300 v1. Good headset too. (Too bad it broke)
Just purchased the Shure SM7B.
Lighting definitely makes a huge different!
What do you think of the Samson q2u?
I started with and still use the LogiTech Pro 9000. It's no longer made, as it's from 2009.
Love the videos man. You've helped a ton and your stream is always great to jump into.
Man, I frigging love your personality. Subbed!
Harris..... Honestly....... Thank you! Very much appreciated!
I don’t know if it’s me or your channel but I get that’s interested each time I watch it it now seems like it’s changed a lot.
I have the Sony 6400 and the flip up works great. plus you get 4k recording for vlogging.
Another great video, this will help me, while not streaming at least create some videos. I just now have to find out how to make sound absorbers.
Excellent thumbnail Sir. So for 2020 I need a quality camera and a bong? O,o .... xD
This video is literally perfectly timed, And for the question? Webcam and better audio and capture card, Then im pretty set tbh
Me: Buys usb mic without headphone jack.
Alpha Gaming: After you picked up a usb mic with a headphone jack (which i reminded you like 5 times)...
Me: ****
Thanks for all the great work Harris!
Caught some of this early on Sam's stream when he was editing it :)
Just picked up the Sony A6000 today, I've yet to use it because I need my camlink still, but I'm super excited to use it.
11:33 THERE WAS NO THINGY IN THE CORNER! :P
Sparkocam and a dummy battery should have the M50 streaming with no issues. ruclips.net/video/Esy8M_IU3rg/видео.html
I. Want. A. DECORATION VID! I have always loved the idea of doing some sort of decoration with cool lighting, but I can never find the stuff I wanna for my background!
I think this video he did kinda lays his stuff out the best: ruclips.net/video/mrhIda6T7Y0/видео.html
FYI on Canon M50 - it doesnt offer clean HDMI, so not a good option for streamers. While there is an option using a 3rd party package to clean up the hdmi output, why have to use a 3rd party option for something that should be built into the camera to start with ?
I love the G-Track Pro!
I wanna see you do a 16-inch MacBook Pro gaming setup with the new Apple Arcade! 🤘🍎🕹
Where did you get those purple and blue lightsaber lights from? That's what I want
search light bar
Is there an improvement comparing the Canon SL2 vs he SL3? Would I be missing anything streaming wise with this upgrade?
Harris: Cards will be in the corner
Corner: Nope.
Harris: List of GPUs with the architecture will be here on the side
Side: Nope.
Me: Welp time to go to the description.
Tks for the great videos you do! Which mic would you recommend that can get hidden further away (i don`t want people to see it in my broadcast?
Your videos are so helpful bro! Keep up the grind💪🏼
Whenever I hear this music I think if Modest Pelican Gaming.
When it comes to usb microphones i would suggest the auna 900b.
This is pure gold, man. Thanks!
What’s your thoughts of a Sony A7ii for streaming on twitch? Will be on sale for like $999 with a 24-70 lens.
damnit! you start talking about those lights and i thought you were going to tell me which they were!
ikr!
I love how he has perfect music and it not to high and mic just right pitch
