I've really enjoyed my Stream Deck+ ! It's a pretty decent integration of a GoXLR Mini and a Stream Deck, in my opinion. It isn't ULTRA feature packed, but for a growing creator it allows me to do a ton in terms of managing audio and visuals on my streams, all in one place!
I think most of your subs would watch you make any kind of video. I’d watch gaming stuff, travel stuff, etc. Streaming advice is your bread and butter but I bet you could grow your brand way beyond that.
Great to see this series kicking off! I have a setup based on your recommendations in the past. It closely resembles setup #3, except I use a Hero 3+ with the knock off cam link and a touch more up-market mic and lighting. It has been SUPER reliable and I bought it used over 2 years ago. Shameless plug but check out my most recent short for an example of how it looks. Happy to share the rest of my setup if it'd help! Looking forward to the other two parts Harris. Thank you for being a baller like always. I wouldn't even be able to make content if it wasn't for your guidance, so I appreciate you!
One thing I will say about the C920 is that you can definitely make that thing SING with a few adjustments in OBS. Toggling off auto exposure and dropping it down a notch or two will help with the blown out whites, while tweaking sharpness, brightness, and contrast a little bit will also bring that camera up from the absolute bottom of the barrel it sits at using out of the box settings. Just my little added tidbit!
If you capture some samples with a color checker card you can roll that into DaVinci resolve and generate a lut with all the color tweaks for the camera pass this into obs and assign to the camera it's like magic you can take any webcam with gain turn down and a mildly dark exposure and fixed settings and pull life into it
@CameraTim absolutely get it as good as you can all manual settings take screen shots of the settings make sure your not blowing out the Highs or crushing the lows putting an nd4 or nd8 filter over the web cam and dropping the gain in favor of longer exposure and using a pair of led panels. Once you have it as good as you can get a small clip or a screenshot from obs with a color card in view DaVinci resolve can create and export a LUT for obs but you can also make tweaks to the lut if you want to go for a certain feel in the color. I have done this with a Logitech brio at a 1080P60 before I spent almost 20k on my podcast setup but I do guest and stuff nowadays have an obsession with gear
Remember the best gear is the gear you own, so if you don’t have the best stuff it’s ok. Focus on your content and what you’re offering. Don’t go broke trying to have the latest and greatest
The first one was actually my favorite! I think it was the perfect balance of using what you own (smart phone), and purchasing quality, yet affordable items (light + mic). I also think it looks the best. Nice video :)
My 1st mic was the $30 FiFine usb mic, I only upgraded to the Rode Podmic cus I got a bonus from work I was not expecting. Its Seriously a great mic for the cost paired with the Reaper plugins in OBS for all the EQ stuff
I have a question about the process of getting monetized. Do I have to reach my payment threshold before doing step 2, verify identity? And if yes will they send me a pin once the threshold is met? Thanks.
hey what the hell, long time sub and just watched the elgato prompter video to find youtube hasn't been putting you in my homepage since this video? I was a 'watch every video' viewer for this channel so its super weird that they just stopped getting pushed to me, anyway going to binge through now
I appreciate these kinds of videos, but the only issue I have is that whenever the phone option is presented, it's usually for an iPhone. It'd be nice to see an Android equivalent, for those who have a spare older phone or who want to use their current phone.
I really like the quality coming out of DroidCam OBS on a Galaxy S22. Looks pretty much the same as he's shown with the iPhone, so I guess as long as your phone camera is decent you should be good to go.
I have tried a few tech-heavy solutions in the past, but Camo (free, but beta) worked well for me when I looked at it recently and DroidCam seems to be well-liked.
Great video! First setup was hands down my favorite. One downside though, EpocCam isn't available for android. Also, I wouldn't say that using the camera on a 1000$ phone is "only 8 dollars". Sure, if you have it, but most don't. I can't believe that that exposure on the C920 was adjusted though. And you've spent your fair share of time adjusting the settings on that camera so was that just the "this is what most would probably do" kind of scenario?
Always enjoy these, and find them inspiring! Makes me want to do my own "budget streaming setup" video one day, haha. But am I the only one who thinks the Fifine mic sounded significantly better than the Seiren? I've NEVER liked the sound of the Seiren, and this was a reminder of that.
I love this! Your last setup is basically what I've got except I got the GoPro Hero 5 as a present way back though the Camlink and Seiren mini were more expensive over here unfortunately.
There are also some ultra-thin lights that come with a remote as well (the cheaper one linked doesn't come with a remote and cannot be controlled via smart plug according to a review).
Instead of the c920 you should really review and suggest the Logitech 1080 pro stream. Amazing Webcam and super budget friendly! I use it in all my streams and youtube videos.
For XLR audio input, I'd check out the Focusrite solo and 2i2, which are amazing! I'm using the solo, which is mono, but it works. They also have the Vocaster, which is meant for podcasting and streaming.
I appreciate what you showed but with a little extra work you can make each them work for your setup or your pocket book. Okay that Logitech C920 probably isn't the issue with the setup #2 them lights could be fixed with parchment paper and a clothes pin or even filters in OBS. Also, DIY lights can give the same effect with smaller price point. I have a C922 and it still looks good honestly after all this time with DIY lights made with parts from Walmart. I know I will have to upgrade but for what I do it definitely does the job. Also for my original videos on my page I shot everything on a Samsung Note 8 with iPhone headphones and edited my videos on the same phone using KineMaster Pro. I say this to show that it just depends on how much you want it too. You'll figure it out and find a way!
I do have a different mic that i been enjoying a lot. the mic is about $45 bucks but is K66 with a boom arm which i got to say helps out a lot! Mind you do a review of the mic i just meantioned @Senpai ? It is low budget USB mic but is awesome to me and i love it a lot.
DroidCam is pretty well known and works just as well. Their new(ish) DroidCam OBS is pretty good if you just want the plugin. There are other alternatives as well, as usual for Android.
Dude your c920 video is horrible, I use one and it looks better than both of your other 2 setups, especially when paired with the free nvidia broadcast setup.
I always appreciate these Harris. As an adult I'm still chasing my dreams, as a parent I'm chasing them in the spare moments, on a budget. I was designing a crab while watching this, but also, if Mr. Krabs wanted to stream, he would be proud that you wouldn't be spending all his money. 🦀💰💸
Harris, I love your videous but you showed c920 not from the best side in this video. I use this camera for streaming and video recording and it can produce much better quality than what you showed here. It all depends on the setting and the light.
I use an Aukey 1080p webcam I bought for $18, a Zoom ZDM-1 I got on sale for $39, a Behringer Q1202 mixer I bought 6 years ago for radio work I'd had lying around, and all of that does amazing work for me just having fun streaming Fortnite with the homies every once in awhile. If you know what you're doing in OBS/Streamlabs, you can make damn near anything work for low budget stream that will still be more than watchable/listenable.
Finfine AmpliGame SC3 is a $50 ($43 at time of comment) Audio Interface. I have it working with a Shure MV7 (mic), HyperX Cloud 2 (headset), Vizio V21-H8R (Soundbar). No issues, everything sounds great, works with 2 PCs, only 50 bucks.
I know you said you can’t recommend the C920, but what are thoughts on the C920 Pro? Cause my setup is currently the C920 Pro as well as an AudioTechnica 2020 microphone. Seems decent to me, but I’m no professional at this.
I have to say, there's something weird about your C920 quality. I'm not sure if it's the resolution you're recording with, or some kind of setting you have somewhere, but your quality is WAY off anything I just tried to reproduce with my C920, and I'm definitely not using any fancy lighting or settings. I stretched mine to a 1440p canvas in OBS (while having the camera setting on 720p30) with a single small $10 ring light and one floor lamp behind me and I am in no way getting the softness/blurriness you're getting with the cam at full screen.
It would be awesome to hear your take on a microphone I use, the Audio-Technica AT2005 it has USB and XLR with a headphone jack. also been looking at the Fifine SC3 as an entry to the XLR side of things.
You mentioned the Fifine mics, which I have been considering. Can you do a review with the Fifine SC3 mixer? From what I've seen, for the price, it's pretty great. Not awesome build quality, but good features and usable.
I'm trying to figure out a budget around the things I have already. I have a Nvidia Rtx 4070, peripherals, storage.I currently use Nitro AN515-53 with 8tb external hdd extra ram, & hdmi to second screen, with logitech gaming peripherals. (I won those and gpu) I have a elgato mic as well. Any tips on specifics for the pc? :)
I didn’t love any of the camera options here. Obviously the phone looked awesome, but the inconvenience factor is huge. I’m looking forward to the midrange video now!
Always been a fan of GoPro/action cam to stream. Wonder how he feels about the Hero 4 -vs- PowerConf C200. Hero 4s are older and might be harder to get. Added, many are asking same/more than the PowerConf C200. So I'm super curious. ⚠. Also, with the new iPhone supposedly dropping, look for a new wave of used iPhones hitting Craigslist et al. I've also looked around for older iPhone 8s that had a clear camera solely as a streaming rig. Scratches on the body bother me less.
Well, it's an "8$ cam" if you have an iPhone, if not then it's not gonna work. And this is a 2nd video about cheap stream setups, when Elgato Epoc and iPhone are mentioned. The 2nd option should be the first one in my opinion and the setup with iPhone should be mentioned as an extra option maybe? :)
I'm build a Blackmagic atem + studio cameras ultimatte all 4k 12gb sdi streaming system its budget studio grade gear maybe 20k in total for a live 4 person podcast system.
set up 2 had me thinking something happened to my PC...i paused and checked if i was watching in HD...if my graphics card needed an update just to come back and realize this is just how setup 2 looks. EW
I'm not gonna be too hard on you for this cause overall this was a pretty good, but it bothered me that the microphone arm wasn't factored into the cost of the setup. Essentially, I feel like this should've included ways to prop up your microphone and webcam too. The audio quality isn't nearly going to be as good if it's propped up on the desk with its default stand, and not everyone has a tripod and smartphone clip in their closet. Not to mention the arm shown costs the whole budget of the first setup + 20 usd or so. My favourite piece of gear is probably still my GoXLR Mini, I've kind of taken the input and output routing and physical port setup for granted. It's so useful even outside of creation.
I appreciate the video; I don't stream anymore but the stuff you've shown off has allowed me to be the best looking and sounding employee on the zoom call. That said I gotta tell ya, the shelf your youtube plaque is on is askew and it bothers me to no end. For the love of all that is holy, use the money you saved by using your phone camera to buy yourself a level. Please and thank you.
Yo would u be down to test the blue perrot as a headset for beginners it's 100 for their entry level headset and it being a full headset Bluetooth with a massive battery life and impressive range so if u have to walk off stream u can still talk to stream as u are out of the room and hear ur text to voice notifications plus I think for IRL streams it's active noise cancelling and everything make it a better option than a lav for mobile streaming especially for price but I don't have a massive collection I can side by side with
i bought a used gopro hero 4 and used it for 2 years. it was a great camera for an old device. love the pov you can change. until one day, it just wont turn on again. there's alot suggestion online on how to hack it which will be needed some more other tools which in my case I have to buy. since i dont really know what's the problem was, i cant really bother to try it fix it.
hey Harris, can you please talk about mic arms? it's one piece of equipment that everyone uses, but almost never gets mentioned in these types of videos.
Video released 9 minutes ago and it appeared on my home page. RUclips knows I'm a fan. While I enjoy these videos, feels like it's missing the mark for me, I would love to see more new budget gear like the knockoff camlink with side by side with the original, and more about planning and logistics on setting up a streaming space. There is so much you have to get right from longer cables to power extension leads to connectors, clamps, light fittings, battery chargers, usb extension cables - I literally have boxes of cables and connectors from failed experiments and I bet every streamer does too. Still enjoyed the video. Amazing the contrast between the pro establishment shot camera and the cheap cameras. 🙂
Ugh... Cables... Yeah, I had to buy a female-to-female HDMI adapter recently when I tried something new because the short HDMI to Mini-HDMI (or was it micro?) cable which had been fine before was now too short. Streaming quickly teaches you to buy longer cables than you think you will need. That and USB power plugs (I have two of the three-port IKEA ones), because you will easily run out of USB ports and half of them are only being used for power.
Only issue I have with using my hero 4 is the heat. I was using it during a straight 5hr class and it got too hot to the point I had to point a fan at it to cool down. Still reliable though. Been using it since the start of online classes. Just the heat that worries me.
Instead of additional lights to act as a fill get a white sheet held up either in a stand or even on the wall. Spillover from your key will bounce off the sheet to fill out your lighting.
Before my 2nd light died, I just pointed it at the ceiling for a better cover, but I also use a green screen so the dynamic facial lighting had to go in favor of a cleaner screen >.
The first of a 3-part series. What's your favorite piece of gear you own? Mine is.. something I'll be showing you guys real soon 👀

I started using my pixel 7 (Google phone) as a primary webcam and like, wow.
Thank you for everthing, You tought us a lot about streaming and making the best setups
One thing I will say about the C920 is that you can definitely make that thing SING with a few adjustments in OBS. 100%! Also mess with the white balance to make it a tiny bit orange (like Hariss recommends!) and it looks a LOT better
If you capture some samples with a color checker card you can roll that into DaVinci resolve and generate a lut with all the color tweaks for the camera pass this into obs and assign to the camera it's like magic you can take any webcam with gain turn down and a mildly dark exposure and fixed settings and pull life into it
Auto settings DESTROY webcams. Manually setting everything is by far the best way to make them look amazing.
@CameraTim absolutely get it as good as you can all manual settings take screen shots of the settings make sure your not blowing out the Highs or crushing the lows putting an nd4 or nd8 filter over the web cam and dropping the gain in favor of longer exposure and using a pair of led panels. @@ZoeyR86 Funny enough, I made a video a couple years ago on making an OBS LUT in Resolve, but yeah, definitely the way to do it.
Remember the best gear is the gear you own, so if you don’t have the best stuff it’s ok. Focus on your content and what you’re offering. Don’t go broke trying to have the latest and greatest
so true
My first mic was a Fifine too, And it sounds really good! with the right tuning you can get a sound close to a professional mic
The first one was actually my favorite! I think it was the perfect balance of using what you own (smart phone), and purchasing quality, yet affordable items (light + mic). I also think it looks the best. Nice video :)
My man Oz with the best tips on how to be budget friendly. Love your videos btw

Perfect video with a touch of everything~ humor, good advice, amazing cuts.
In setup 2, to solve the blowing out issue. You can just use some clips and baking paper
I appreciate these kinds of videos, but the only issue I have is that whenever the phone option is presented, it's usually for an iPhone. It'd be nice to see an Android equivalent, for those who have a spare older phone or who want to use their current phone.

I'm impressed by how well the Go Pro handled the balancing of lighting, etc.

The C920 aged like a fine cheese! 😅

Oh, looking forward to part two and three and I think that second angle you had during the second one was the best
I wish epoc cam would come to android. Not sure if we have any good alternatives because no one ever talks about android.
DroidCam is pretty well known and works just as well. Their new(ish) DroidCam OBS is pretty good if you just want the plugin. There are other alternatives as well, as usual for Android.

How did you manage to make the c920 look so bad? Was it on purpose? It's a webcam sure but it's waaaaaay better than you made it look here
I know you said you can’t recommend the C920, but what are thoughts on the C920 Pro? Cause my setup is currently the C920 Pro as well as an AudioTechnica 2020 microphone. Seems decent to me, but I’m no professional at this.

Try the Maono PD100 or DM30 Series as well! They're equal and sometimes better in regard to budget mics!!
It would be awesome to hear your take on a microphone I use, the Audio-Technica AT2005 it has USB and XLR with a headphone jack. also been looking at the Fifine SC3 as an entry to the XLR side of things.

Honestly man, I don't even stream, I just love watching your videos 🤘🏻🔥
I didn’t love any of the camera options here. Obviously the phone looked awesome, but the inconvenience factor is huge. I’m looking forward to the midrange video now!
Could also go the cheap Canon DSLR route and EOS web utility. Second hand Canon Rebel T3 / 1100D + dummy battery.
Try out Zealsound mics, you should talk more about sounds in these budget videos.
I loved all 10 minutes of this video that was uploaded 2 minutes ago! Great work!
Always been a fan of GoPro/action cam to stream. Wonder how he feels about the Hero 4 -vs- PowerConf C200. Hero 4s are older and might be harder to get. Epoccam is not available for Android. Would be great if you included alternatate suggestions for non IPhone golks
The epoc app would be great if your iPhone camera didn't randomly disconnect after 20 minutes. If there's a fix for that I'd like to know.
Can you suggest some "inexpensive" cell phones (or older phones one might have laying around) which provide good streaming quality?
i use a marantz 2000usb mic and a logitech c930e camera.. has served me well for a few years now.
EW
what about older high end microüphones that are now dirt cheap used liek the AT 2035 Microphone?
I'm not gonna be too hard on you for this cause overall this was a pretty good, but it bothered me that the microphone arm wasn't factored into the cost of the setup. Essentially, I feel like this should've included ways to prop up your microphone and webcam too. My favourite piece of gear is probably still my GoXLR Mini, I've kind of taken the input and output routing and physical port setup for granted. It's so useful even outside of creation.
Logitech c930 is a good wide angle that is the same price currently as the c920 and cheaper than the c922 with better quality differences👀
I managed to grab a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition for £25 in a charity shop and it's been my webcam ever since
I appreciate the video; I don't stream anymore but the stuff you've shown off has allowed me to be the best looking and sounding employee on the zoom call. That said I gotta tell ya, the shelf your youtube plaque is on is askew and it bothers me to no end. For the love of all that is holy, use the money you saved by using your phone camera to buy yourself a level. Please and thank you.
what about the logitech c920/c9220 pro as a budget webcam for new streamers?
I'm a weirdo who has a beacn mic, led panel lights, a mirrorless camera and super nice background...for work video calls.
What about those of us who don't have $2000 iPhones in our pocket and only have a $400 pixel 6a?
Yo would u be down to test the blue perrot as a headset for beginners it's 100 for their entry level headset and it being a full headset Bluetooth with a massive battery life and impressive range so if u have to walk off stream u can still talk to stream as u are out of the room and hear ur text to voice notifications plus I think for IRL streams it's active noise cancelling and everything make it a better option than a lav for mobile streaming especially for price but I don't have a massive collection I can side by side with

Do the one about the Aliexpress audio interfaces under $100...
Hello. I rly learn a lot watching your videos. What do you think of a setup that has a elgato wave:3 and a logitech brio?
hey Harris, can you please talk about mic arms? it's one piece of equipment that everyone uses, but almost never gets mentioned in these types of videos.
And my issues with using a GoPro is that the thing would randomly turn off or disconnect like once a stream. Maybe it was a hero 7 issue idk.
First!
Do you have a link to your wood desk you have in your video? I can’t find anything online except for I seen on in Etsy.
Thank you for the GoPro HERO4 suggestion!
That and USB power plugs (I have two of the three-port IKEA ones), because you will easily run out of USB ports and half of them are only being used for power.
for europe check the Thomann stuff it's actually great
that mic was my first PC mic, still have it in storage, its pretty slick but it pics up all noise!!!
dude that sharp cut to XQC made me spit take my protein smoothie 🤣🤣🤣🤣
that was so outta pocket and accurate
Only issue I have with using my hero 4 is the heat. I was using it during a straight 5hr class and it got too hot to the point I had to point a fan at it to cool down.
Still reliable though. Been using it since the start of online classes. Just the heat that worries me.
I'm really liking how the Maono mics sound. They're fairly cheap and still sound and look great. Plus almost all of them have usb and xlr connections.
I got the Maono USB condensed a couple years ago, I love it!
A used GoPro 4 that doesn't scream scam or looks like it's falling apart in germany is at least 80€ atm 😥
Senpai, what headphones do you like to wear when your gaming for longer periods of time?
And now im here , using a 30€ mic from amazon😂
I really want a HDMI 2.1 4K60+ capable card.
I would definitely dish out the $7 bucks for the Seiren Mini, not that the Fifine is bad but the Mini is so underrated in this industry.
The camera and lights are def worse in the 2nd setup but i actually like that mics sound better than the first mic
yea i bought fifine a4 instead of the siren mini and hyperx solocast
Fifine for 27 would’ve made it cheaper
So you're a Petrucci fan. Nice way to earn interactions, here's my like.
I've been streaming with two GoPro 3's for 7 years now and have no need to upgrade.
Are there any apps you would recommend for use with an android?
The best camera is the iphone one, i dont like the resolution and color grading of the other two
oh only 80 dollars, super cheap, but not everyone has an iphone bro
is there an alternative for epoccam for android?
I would love to see you review the Fifine XLR interface
So If I use the iPhone how do I plug it to a capture card?
Instead of additional lights to act as a fill get a white sheet held up either in a stand or even on the wall. Spillover from your key will bounce off the sheet to fill out your lighting.
Before my 2nd light died, I just pointed it at the ceiling for a better cover, but I also use a green screen so the dynamic facial lighting had to go in favor of a cleaner screen >.
If I would really be on a budget I would probably go for a a lavelier.
I like the firing 100$ dynamic mic
how'd you manage to make the c920 look so bad
🕳🦆
💪❤️
How about a mobile stream setup with an iPhone or maybe more than one iPhone?
🤑
If it passes the "little crumb on the beard" test, then its a quality camera 😂
I feel like c920 got a bad treatment you can make it look way better with a bit of tweaking
When does the other two vídeos of mid and pro set ups comming?
What's in your beard??????
