6:00 IMO the fancy camera work has become part of marques' experience. Sure I'd still watch him in the most basic form (like the Auto Focus channel) but I'd be surprised if I don't see a high production level on his main channel. Been following MKBHD for almost a decade and his dedication to the craft has been inspirational.
I've never seen Marques so laid back in a video with another creator, thanks Gerald for showing us another perspective on him and his studio. Awesome seeing you guys nerd out 😂
What's easy to overlook when ogling all that gear ... Marques is obviously a great businessman and leader. You don't build an operation that big and that intricate unless you've got great vision, great people skills, and an ability to make lots of important decisions quickly. Super impressive.
I would love if he did a Stephen Graham video and went over his finances lol. That's an insane studio for a youtuber, it's crazy to think that he still comes out green.
@@andrew66862 "it doesn't feel like a corporate bustling office with a busy team" - because it's not? There's hardly anyone in that office (or they're all hiding away from the camera).
As a camera/gear nerd I absolutely loved this video. What an amazing set up. Loved the top down set and the standing desk trick is an amazing idea. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Great video Gerald.
It's actually really easy to get paint that is 18% gray. I brought Home Depot a Color Checker Passport and they measured and matched the gray patch and if you do their matte finish, the reflectivity is pretty spot on as well. I painted a wall in my lab area at my studio with it :)
I suggest the tour of Coffeezilla's studio, with all the fxs, transitions & green screen, I wonder what is the size of the studio behind everything and how he set up his lights...
I never realized how elaborate and professional you’ve gotten. I discovered you waaaaaaaay back in the day… it’s been so fun to watch you evolve over the years.
this whole series is amazing (and Dell isn't even paying me). please continue doing these outside of this genre - i wanna see Gerald's studio tours from Mentour Pilot to Meet the Press to Marvel, roasting the whole way.
I am not at all a camera nerd but I recently came across the channel because of the studio tours. I end up watching the tours with a smile on my face the entire time, great chemistry! Gerald, you have me wanting to become a camera nerd now!
I love how Marques talks about tech he CLEARLY doesn’t need and how Gerald low key jabs at him about it. I’m the same. I do the same thing. I get things and then I try and justify why I have it but the truth is… I just love dope tech, what can I say 🤷🏾♂️
Marques can only dream of one day approaching the ABSOLUTE TECH SUPREMACY of Kasey @ Camera Conspiracies. (Gerald is too intimidated to visit such awesomeness.)
I saw this every time but I feel this was the best studio tour video so far, at least the most epic one ! the only thing I will mention or rather complaint is the autofocus hunting, it was a bit distracting in some parts of the video 18:25 is an example, that's where you switch focusing area mode and/or have a manual focus button assigned to take over, other wise the camera will be hunting for multiple targets, and there were alot in the MKBHD studio, that's what I normally do with my FX camera to avoid this happening.
As a person who's into camera gear and equipment, I've enjoyed watching this tour. Nice to see Marques having some of the gears I see on film sets on his own studio.
18% Grey paint: I tried. Handed a white balance card to a Sherwin Williams rep and had them mix it custom for me. Problem is when you paint over a primer, or base layer, or whatever, it totally changes. It ended up much darker and a hair warmer than intended. I liked it, but it was NOT 18% Grey.
Love it when your favourite creators come together… it’s like all your friends having a catch up (except I’m not invited 😂) Great to see @chrisbrockhurst getting in on the action! 😊
Such an awesome video series to throw on while sanding away at a new project. Also enjoyed seeing a Ankermake m5 3D Printer on a shelf at the MKBHD studio… was expecting to see more 3d printers laying around there
thanks for the MKBHD Studio Tour , Gerald! (and it's just crazy to see that level of gear. apart from that robot, I'm talking about just a gazillion Sachtler Flowtech tripods sittin' around on the podcast set. wtf. :D )
This crossover felt so surreal for me - been watching you and MKBHD for a while; was nice to see your blunt Canadian humour mixed in with the MKBHD perfection hahaha !
I missed the studio tours. I know its evolving but Gerald you need to bring back the pen and clipboard. It's a staple to the studio tours. Man this was such an awesome vid.
Gerald Undone channel description: "Here we'll be testing different tech and gadgets and reviewing products from a value perspective" Proceeds to visit MKBHD Studio.
On the V-Raptor, ELQ is about 12:1, LQ is about 7.5:1, MQ is about 4:1 and HQ is about 3:1 - They aren’t exact anymore. They are slightly variable withabout 1.
Coming from DSMC cameras, the new compression ratios are super annoying compared to how it used to be. I’d typically shoot either 6:1 or 8:1 with previous models, but according to RED, that’s essentially “low quality” on the new cameras. Hard to wrap my head around the new scale, and psychologically, I feel the need to use more data because they’re calling it LQ.
@@MrAndrewClaycomb I hear you. That’s why I started calling ELQ “Extra Loving Quality” so I wouldn’t be afraid of the stigma with Extra Low Quality. Its just 12:1 which is totally fine for some things.
It’s always confusing though since that’s the 12bit math that red used for dsmc1-2 ratios yet red has always advertised as 16bit raw. But yes it’s the same average bitrate as dsmc2 12:1 but if it were really 16bit technically it would be 17:1 but we’ll never know since no one has access to the uncompressed data or can see what’s under the hood in reds sdk and they are always a bit cagey answering this question.
@@MrAndrewClaycombit’s a totally different compression scheme. DCT vs wavelet, and DCT tends to be less efficient so that’s why they effectively increased the data rates (lowered the compression ratios) for dsmc3

@6:00 Gerald makes an interesting point. I'd love to see a concept MKBHD vid where there's none of the flashy things, super fancy B-roll, just a Marques talking head about the product in a brief amount of time

How in the world are you at 386k subs. Shocking to me. I've been a huge fan for several years and I never noticed the subs number. GU, you are one of my favs and the only one where the notification is on! Keep doing all you do. Thx!

21:28 I thought that was a window in the background, until the guy with the killer mullet walked past and realised it was a TV running stock footage from the 70s.
I’m sure they have some kind of “it make sense to us” system, but I would LOVE organize all that gear, so it looks less chaotic when it’s not in use but remains just as functional.
Always a pleasure to nerd out about gear 🤓
My wife is watching like “what are they talking about! “
I'd love to see more gear talk on the podcast!
Where's the golf studio?
A GoPro not good enough for you….😂
Gerald's got robot envy.
Only Gerald could go tour MKBHDHQ and completely act unimpressed the entire time
I was thinking this the whole time. Lol
And at the same time both totally know how little the tech actually means compared to content.
Hahaha totally
I was more under impression Gerald is in learn mode..
Yeah it was kinda disappointing to watch.
So great to see Gerald reviewing smaller channels and bring exposure to them!
