It was great to have you over! I hope you enjoyed my complete lack of camera/lighting gear knowledge =)
I was curious to see Dave's studio BTS the most! Thank you for providing us with this opportunity 👍
Great clean studio... People don't need much to make a sharp studio especially now if you use your phone for everything or borrow one.
❤ Your videos look really nice and clean regardless. Also, keep the Sennheiser, it sounds better on your voice.
Dave everything you have looks beautiful. You have a great eye for design.
I'd never guess that Dave can be a beginner in so many aspects of lighting and shooting gear because esthetics of your channel are top-notch
Thank you, Gerald! I learned so much from this video. Dave's studio tour taught me that sometimes we get so caught up with the gear and the setup as an excuse to not get started, but here's Dave, shooting with manual focus because it gets the job done, for him. Kudos to both of you!
I had that so many times! Getting excited about new gear/stuff, but finally realizing, that it doesnt add any (or too less) quality to the things, I am already doing.
Or sometimes even make it worse 🙈
Nowadays I review everything after a couple of weeks and ged rid of new stuff, if it doesnt help the quality or make the production progress faster
(R.I.P. Elgato Wave XLR 🕊)
No kidding right! I have a better light but I’m at 423 subs, so yeah I need to chill on buying gear and just get better at making vids.
funny seeing you here :D
Legend
Ayo a legend talks about another legend
That’s not enough batteries. I’m waiting for the iPhone 17.
2025 : behold the iphone 17 pro max ultra S
@@MrOnlyforcommenting s Gran Turismo
Thats going to be the iphone 18 then.. Like the iphone 9 there gonna skip 17... You wanna have the iPhone 18 Pro Max Ultra S Max Bat
@@MrOnlyforcommenting can't wait for that monstrosity
What I like most about daves videos is that he respects the audiences time. Straight to the point, no extra stuff or length to run ads. Just a high quality video that provides as much value as possible in the minimal amount of time. More channels should use that approach since it's clearly working.
I'll be starting youtube and Dave is my role model.
Plus I don't have much money so it'd be financially more feasible.
RUclips isn’t his main job so that’s why it’s like that haha.
He works in the medical field
@@RiceCubeTech it could very well be his job at this point.
Did you see his views? It's staggering and mostly the result of his minimalist approach to this niche.
@@mehmetgurdal no I mean he’s literally said he still works at his other job. He doesn’t make as much on this since he’s not trying to maximize view time to hit 8 minutes or more every video. He also doesn’t always have a sponsor. And he buys a lot of laptops by himself
@@RiceCubeTech dude he said this years ago.
That BUNKER LOOK is distinct and looks fabulous... it's like an unused set from 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY!
You need to add an airlock door to the set! Light, buttons, sound effects. Then film an intro in it. I am working on that idea using a storage closet.
Yeah I've always assumed it was drywall. Super interested in the techniques used to finish it and create those holes in the finish.
I really am inspired to that bunker look and I'll make my own someday
Audix SCX1. Avoided much of the reverb problems of the space. Great vid.
This was sooo interesting, I always wondered about his setup. But also the way Gerald was like "so what's this about" triggered deep seeded memories of my step dad seeing my room look out of order loooool
Sounds like your working through some stuff there…
Those two mics sounded very similar - maybe if some of the sound panels leaning up against the wall were hanging from the ceiling, and placed more strategically around the shooting space; they'd have more of an impact on the sound.
My thoughts exactly!
Yup, a few on the ceiling directly above would go a really long way
In my opinion sennheiser sounds better on both my crappy speakers and my good headphones.
I love dave2d because he’s so pragmatic and relatable.
I love how he came off in this video, seems like a really down to earth and personable dude. Sometimes you see content creators off script, and they just don't seem that pleasant. Definitely cool to see in this case.
Dave knows whats important, cuts the boring stuff, doesn’t fall for the hype yet isn’t boring. He honestly just has his formula figured out, love his videos. Perfect example of how good videos don’t have to be weeks in the making.
Dave2D makes my favorite non-overly edited tech videos. Not a bunch of unnecessary b-rolls, crazy music, and transitions. Really like his vibe.
I’ve always wanted THIS studio tour. Thank you both, so much.
Honestly Dave is so underrated . He really just doesn't talk about the specs and things you [at least myself] could do yourself but rather talks about who should buy the product or what the product is intended for.
Everyone who is in tech RUclips ends up just talking about things that you could find out on products website etc
As a Canadian, there is nothing I love more than to see Canadian creators work together on those collab videos. I just saw a Peter McKinnon video about "Just a RUclipsr" and during the whole thing I was hoping to see Gerald Undone and then there he was... so nice. Dave2D, Peter McKinnon, Gerald, heck, even Linus... we Canadian have a lot to offer and proud of it. Cheers from west GTA.
Dave2D is one of the best channels out there. No unnecessary music, intro or whatever. Pure reviews from a great perspective.
He doesn't do intros anymore since the start of the year. I kinda miss it.
I'm amazed at how similar to they sound, but I think its just the room that is impacting the sound more than anything. I would love to see what the MKH50 would sound in that space having the superior reverb rejection indoors. At least from my experience the MKH50 has been much better in reverberant rooms. But at the end of the day, the room itself and the microphone proximity sometimes is the bigger factor.
I kinda maybe liked the MKH50 more but I think people get too caught up with the tech. Audio is one of the most important things but all mikes beyond a certain level of price would give you good audio. Let's say 90 to 95% of the way, the 5% more would get much more subjective to most people.
It's like comparing witch camera get the best 4k, while most people still watch your videos in full hd.
While that room could usee some of those sound panels lying around doing nothing... He could put them on the sides for example, out of frame.
@@showdaKOs Totally agree. I just know that the MKH50 is at least the more optimal microphone design for interior rooms. The 416, well excellent, is meant for exterior applications.
So far this is the BEST studio tour so far! I like the jokes and the way you guys talk...like very old friends, looks very natural compare to other tours except tours with Josh
With me?
Thats crazy, ya know I think everyone on the platform assumed Dave2D was god tear camera guy. Because he has inspired so many larger channels with his shots, and content layout. Knowing he is just another guy who is just good at what he does is inspiring. great video.
I've been waiting for a video like this about dave's studio!
Gerald you did an amazing job! And i liked every second of the video.
Please do more behind the scenes studio tours and keep up the great work! :)
love this
RUclips spam is so bad that I had to double check if it was actually you cause the number of likes. I guess you commented right before everyone said GN.
Most of the time I don't even care about the product in question, I just like to watch and listen to his videos.
A big fan of Dave2D and his work (and a subscriber of yours now 😎), I am disappointed that this video is only 16 minutes... We need more videos like this...
It was cool to see more of the bunker
we wanna see your studio next
Bought a laptop 6 years ago based on Dave's video. Only video that gave me the useful informations to make my choice. Still happy 6 years later. He looks so happy and excited with the sunset light. Fun to watch.
This was awesome. I've watched Dave2D's channel for years, and this is the first time we get to see a behind the scenes. Thanks for the video!
How do you not have a million subscribers now? I have always loved your camera & gear reviews but the studio tours are GOLD. So much fun to watch.
People like Dave are the best type of gear owner. They have the stuff as a means to an end; the actual content.
I always wondered what was the deal with those angled hallway things. I assumed it was another room separated by swiveling doors. But no! It's just a decorative element! Very clever! And I also assumed the walls were concrete and that the bunker was in a basement of an industrial building. Crazy! Thanks Gerald and Dave!
Finally. Thanks for finally doing this. Dave may not be the biggest tech RUclipsr out there but he definitely is one of the best. Thanks again for doing this.
Even BTS, Dave is humble and just a chill guy. What a legend!
funny part, i always thought that the lights and background with that 3 blocks in diagonal position , has your entrance. And the light has natural 😁Nice video
Sick setup! Thanks for the tour 🤌🏼
As a long time viewer of Dave, this was an interesting video to watch seeing his set behind the scenes, what equipment he uses and him explaining the hiw he works on his videos. Thanks for this Gerald! :)
Awesome fish tank!! 😎🐠
This was great. Thanks for sharing.
Dave can use for the b cam the PD Movie Smart live air 3 LiDAR focus system. It’s great it works without cables!
Really love watching what other people have and what they use. I love how simplistic the setup actually and how the "window" area is just a bunch of lights
Dave's cluelessness about gear is equally charming and infuriating 🖤
I've said it before I'll say it again, @Gerald Undone some of your best work is when you're being yourself and having fun interacting with other people. More videos like this please!
Loved seeing his behind the scenes, super cool
What a cool guy! Super down to earth with an awesome setup. Dave is pretty great too 👍
Just got nostalgia all over remembering how I watched Dave back then. I thought "I hope he gets big, his reviews are straight to the point and well done", nice to see where he is now
3:53 - Just use a wireless follow focus or use the Axon Cine (mark 1 or 2). The Mark 1 adds center point AF to any MFT lens on the Pocket4K. The Mark 2 adds AF to any manual lens using the DJI Focus Mark 1 Lidar system.
Either mic does well enough. Neither contributes anything negative. Awesome tour! Always wondered about that space.
I don’t know what they are called, but they change colors - sums up Dave2D where we talk tech practically and not in spec sheets and jargons
Awww Dave is so cute and innocent!!! God bless him!!
I love the orange in the lights . He should keep it ....It's a vibe! 🔥
Also I love seeing other RUclipsr sets . Keep doing this series Gerald! 👌
The bend in that C-Stand arm is terrifying
I love that Patrick filmed this, what a legend
I love Dave2D' s channel. He was one of my first channels I subscribed to back in 2017! Always spot on with his info!
yeah so I absolutely need that book
It's always crazy that Dave has over 3.5m subs.
I've followed him somewhere around the 70k mark :O
He deserves it tho.
I stopped following a lot of people as their perspective and overall behavior changed with success / subs.
Dave still is Dave. And I love that.
Did not know i needed this, till it showed up, Love Dave2D
I have always been inspired by Dave's videos......this video makes me respect him even more.
Amazing video Gerald.
8:09 “perpetual sunset.” Lol that hit the spot. Dave went there in his mind.
When I first saw him use this set, i thought it was like one of those zoom backgrounds. It looked way too aesthetically pleasing to be believable. Blows my mind to know it’s real.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Can't wait for more studio tours. This episode was fun! And it's not real concrete! I always thought it was. Cool setup, indeed.
Gerald, I'd love to see a review from you about the Tilta Float system. Great video, as always!
Love these behind the scene videos ... and the thought process too
That Time Machine cut made me crack up! Always love these studio tours Gerald, bravo!
Damn! The magic of good painting! Always thought this was a freeaking good concrete.
It was great to see behind the scenes of Dave2D, exactly what I was looking for!
This was so refreshing! Would love to see more of these where you just rip apart RUclipsrs for being.. well.. RUclipsrs haha!
Dave is one of, if not, my favourite tech RUclipsrs so was awesome to see both my favourite Camera RUclipsr and Dave collaborate!
that was unexpected but i like the Audix more, very nice video Gerald btw
Yeah, the Zen-Hi-Zer had a bit more reverb, so the Audix is tiny bit better.
It’s beyond me how you don’t have over 1 mil subs. I’m a big fan of Dave Lee but also love your content!
The sunset lighting reminded me of the shots of the Tyrell Corporation building from bladerunner. Even got the concrete-looking baffles near the 'windows.' I think it's a much more natural look than the 5000k or so the lights started at.
I need an easy rig.
@5:00, do you like the audio in there? The ceiling and floor should be treated. A little eco helps sell the space as concrete but its kind of too much?
Great behind the scenes, we can see how Dave really likes to keep it relatively simple and still achieve great results, straightforward creativity over fancy gear. Nice
Patrick Tomasso - Professor of Gimbal Sciences 😂😂 Nice one there!
This is the best studio ever. I didn’t know about his channel. I like simple and the concrete look
I am sad to say that before this popped up on my feed, I had no idea who you were. But I love Dave and I thoroughly enjoyed this video and subscribed!!!
This was a cool video, thanks Gerald! I'm headed over to check out Dave now, cool guy
Dave is my favorite tech youtuber since he always gets to the point and gives his honest opinion on everything.
Thank you, Gerald. Dave2D’s last two videos have been LIT.
This was great, so interesting to see all of Dave's stuff, also I think the Sennheiser sounded better (at least of my MacBook speakers) Great video!
I’ve always been curious abt Dave’s setup this is so amazing my fav and only tech RUclipsr I watch 🎉
Also no, how cute does Dave look when listening to Gerald lol
2nd mic was definitely better in my opinion! Thats aweseom and cool whay you just showed. Still listining to your ad nebula at the moment. lol
7:48 WOW, those orange lights make the whole place look so much cooler imo
This is a fun video. I really enjoyed watching the two/three of you hang out and talk tech and "how to." Very helpful to anyone looking to venture into RUclips-ing, and entertaining for fans. Thank you.
Maybe it's the space and the echoing but the Audix SCX1 sounded cleaner, with "S" sounding less piercing or clipping while the Sennheiser sounded a bit boomier, "S" needed a bit more De-Essing, maybe more noise dampening to cut down on the echo, probably clipping the mic at points depending the gain levels, something like a pop filter might help reduce. But then again RUclips might be screwing with the audio so I might be completely wrong.
Dave's laugh as soon as he realized he has been using the diffuser incorrectly 🤣
6:17 oh my and i thought those are windows. Amazing studio/bunker
Immediately jumps into what cables are coming out the camera, now THIS is a studio tour!
I'm a big fan of Dave2D so thank you for this! more studio visits please
I hope you hit the 1 mill followers soon I think you really deserve it .
This was a great detour from the usual reviews. I appreciate seeing the cross collaboration and sharing. Big fan of both channels. Thanks!
I needed this crossover.
My goodness. This wasn't the video I thought I needed, but here we are.
manually focusing every time he moves his hand is a level of patience that deeply intimidates me
Love your videos, they always have me smiling all the way through
Loved watching this!
i could watch these kind of videos for hours
“Hi, I’m Gerald Undone and I feel a lot more like I do now than I did a while ago”
Dave is kinda trendsetter of that minimalistic video esthetic, now alot more youtuber doing it and i love it
Patrick and Canoopsy! I watch everyone in this video! The Canadian RUclips Universe strikes again!
amazing BTS. thank you guys for doing it
Audix SCX1 is better at isolating Dave's voice from the environment. Senny MKH 416 captures more reverb/echo (might be nice for an audio illusion of space?).
I prefer the Audix.
That is an interesting space! I like the look. Maybe your next video with him can be a few upgrades like that shake prone overview setup.
When you turned the room into that blade runner vibe I almost creamed myself, I thought it looked great before but that warm industrial look is something I'd love to strive for myself (one day...)
Thank you Gerald for doing this, for humanity. Thank you!
