Hey Harris, being an audio guy, this is by far the BEST explanation of EQ, Gate, Compression and De-Esser that I have ever heard! I've just got the Go XLR and for what I need, ie voice over work, recording as-live radio links and live streaming, it's almost perfect. I had a Presonus Studiolive 32SC which was way overkill. This video has sorted every question I was wondering about setting up my Go XLR, which I discovered this device because of yourself...so thank you so much man! 💪🏼🐺
That's what I want to know too. I got a Yamaha MG10XU specifically because it has RCA inputs. The problem is that EVERYTHING is fed as 1 input as far as Windows can see, which is very unfortunate. If I equalize my microphone for my voice using a DAW and virtual audio cable, the console's audio is gonna get destroyed because it's seen as the same input as what the microphone is pushing to the PC. Currently I feed my console into Line In on my PC and use OBS to adjust it as a workaround. I assume you'll be fine if you use the Line In port on the GOXLR. Most interfaces are great if you only stream on PC, going as far as using emulators for retro games, but when you want to use all hardware, it seems like it becomes very difficult. The MG10XLR would probably be a perfect mixer if it simply had that functionality for Windows to see every single line of input as a separate device on Windows. Or at least to DAWs with the proper drivers installed.
Scott Thompson So, what i did to get around this (on my Yamaha mixer) was get an hdmi audio extractor. Basically another box in the HDMI chain. It will extract the audio and send it to a separate audio cable (for me aux) and that was plugged into another input on the Yamaha mixer. From what i can see with the goxlr. There is a optical port, which i assume is a line in. You can plug the console into that via optical and then adjust with the PC app fader. I just ordered mine and should be here today from Amazon and i will try to confirm this theory.
Bro there are soooo many tutorials and videos on here but this is by far the best video on the goxlr. Now I know I can mute myself to chat while streaming or record samples from the pc instead of downloading stuff. So easy and thx for making this video

This video has been a game changer for me. The videos put out by the company are pretty decent, but they don't go into the kind of "ELI5" details that I sometimes need. Thank you for this. I finally sound pretty good on stream. Sadly, the EQ can only do so much for my goofy voice, but it is a lot better than before.
You can put Discord on EITHER PC...the point of this unit is to give you a blank audio canvas...ANYTHING is possible. There are many streams where I am not using a second PC...I use Switch often..and therefore NOT a second PC, and therefore I need my Discord on my stream PC because that's how Switch players communicate as well. You are bloody smart to set up Discord on the Stream PC. Cheers

This is one of your most useful videos yet. I especially liked the tips at the end about the dual-function Mute button and adding System to what the sampler can hear in order to cut straight from on-line content to sample. Keep up the good work, Harris. And yeah, I'm old enough to know what a floppy disk is/was.
RE: 2PC set up I run this to my stream PC and use the mic option you mention later the secret as you say, works like a dream. Means that I eliminate buzz/hum pretty easilly and can have less running on the game PC. Less resources being used on that gaming machine the better imo! I think this comes from my AV tech background at shows etc, but def both have pros and cons! Loved the video and thanks for sharing!
I've been meaning to comment on this awhile back. You can use any wireless headset. It doesn't have to have a line in at all. Step 1: Check every box in the Broadcast Stream Mix in the Go XLR app that you want to hear in your wireless headset. Step 2: In your Sound Control Panel, in the recordings tab. Right-click Broadcast Stream Mix and go to properties. Under the Listen tab. Check Listen to this device. In the drop-down, select your wireless headset.
This really helped especially while I used a budget mic. Now I have the Elgato Wave 3 per your recommendation and things are even better! Thanks Harris!

I needed a solution and I watched a few of your videos on the GOXLR. I'm a studio go for many years so it was either this or a analog mixer. Decided to go for this, since I had no other true purpose for an analog mixer. Thanks for all your info.
I was toying with the idea of getting one of these with the Shure SM7B. I use a one PC set up for streaming. Your video has inspired me and now I'm definitely going to purchase one of these beauties. Thank you so much for your awesome content
Bro i look so many toturial Videos about the GO XLR but they all just show me a little, but you explain the whole thing in every part of it who usefull for me. you the best THANKS alot!!
Great video and tutorial, one thing to potentially add for EQ on the GOXLR; if you have a fan, loud PC fans/cooling, a window AC or some other form of consistent noise in the background set your EQ to the "California Smile" as a starting point then go through backing off the high mid to mid high range one at a time to focus in on eliminating or significantly lowering the background noise, once that is done increase try increasing the EQ slider directly to the left and right by a value of one or two to compensate for your voice sound. On mine bringing the 4K slider down to -4 almost completely removes all sound from a large window AC and still results in a great sound for voice with the 2 and 8 Khz ranges set at +3 and +4 respectively. Many thanks for the awesome content you provide and have a Merry Christmas!!
This video was extremely helpful! I did however run into a hickup following step 1.... Step 1 should really be, install the software. Reason being that all those goxlr devices that you mention at 3:50 don't show up until you install the software...

For anyone wondering about the wireless headphones, you can also grab an aux cord and go from your headphone jack on the XLR to your line in port on your mother board and go to your settings and click more sources and go to the recording tab and click on it and make your wireless headset have sound cool little trick

This video has sorted every question I was wondering about setting up my Go XLR, which I discovered this device because of yourself...so thank you so much man! 💪🏼🐺
What about using the goXLR with console while streaming on a pc with a capture card?
I am curious about this as well!
I do this all the time. Pick up a optical cord on Amazon. Then just mess around and assign your console audio to a channel. works well!
*me:* this is so hard!
*Harris:* simple.
RussianKidDD hold my XLR cable*
Lmao
Bro there are soooo many tutorials and videos on here but this is by far the best video on the goxlr. Now I know I can mute myself to chat while streaming or record samples from the pc instead of downloading stuff. So easy and thx for making this video
i don't think my laptop " which is my streaming ps", has a line in . 😒
Same 😂 so I guess we’re gonna be this “weirdos” and have discord and music on the streaming pc
This video is GOLD man . So glad I clicked on it ! Very detail and comprehensive
Go XLR needs a quarter inch headphone jack in the front instead of the 3mm jack
Or you could buy a converter for like $5. A good chunk of higher end headphones use the 3mm so I welcome it
@@TranquilThought Totally. Get a pair of Sony MDR-7506 phones for example, and the gold-plated connector screws on and off converting from 1/4" to 3.5mm. Industry/Broadcast standard headphones.
I've just received my GoXLR mini through today, had no idea what to do with it. This video has been amazingly helpful and I can't thank you enough :) Thanks Harris
"If you are one of those weirdos who has discord on their streaming pc..." why do I feel offended by this statement lmao?
Rob Dollas I think he meant people that use a dual pc set up and use it for their streaming pc instead of gaming idk how it all works lmao looking to get my first pc soon
@@falconbridge3179 haha i actually do dual pc setup with discord on my streaming pc. it's just easier with a separate monitor keyboard and mouse. and I wasn't actually offended I just found it funny cuz im that guy hes talking about lol
I guess I’m “one of those weirdos” that only uses his Game PC for the Game :D
that makes around 90% of gamers so i guess 90% of gamers are weird
You can put Discord on EITHER PC...the point of this unit is to give you a blank audio canvas...ANYTHING is possible. There are many streams where I am not using a second PC...I use Switch often..and therefore NOT a second PC, and therefore I need my Discord on my stream PC because that's how Switch players communicate as well.
You are bloody smart to set up Discord on the Stream PC. Cheers
@@pyrosnappy7641 he's purely talking about dual pc setups for streaming bro
Dude you are so excellent. Every vid that I have stumbled upon has been a homerun. I love the straight forward approach, how you talk through potential problems even though you're not dealing with them at the moment, and you presentation. Thank you sir, your business/work ethic shines! You definitely have made many tasks less stressful. You're a damn legend.
That Video was extremely helpful. I was so lost until i sat down and started looking things up. My sound went from potato to amazing in just 26 minutes. Thank you very much Alpha Gaming!!
I cant even describe how amazing this video is and how much it helped me.. Every single question I had was answered throughout the video THANK YOU!
You explained compression better than some videos about music production that deal with compression all the time. Thanks
Harris you are the man. I greatly appreciate this video. You explain the setup and function better than the manufacturer even does! Thank you for this video!
Harris. just bought myself a Go XLR (off the back of one of your other videos) and this has been very valuable! Awsome work! Thank you!
2021 and this is still a goldmine....just got my Go XLR and following this step by step!
I've watched this video SO MANY TIMES in the last year... THANK YOU SO MUCH
I just want to say, I reference this video so often after I reset my computer. Thanks so much for posting this.
Greatest and clearest description of compressor that I’ve ever heard
Been really racking my brain on what to get for audio because I know its important and this video solidified my decision. I know its costly but I'm not just buying something, I'm investing in my future. Thanks for the video
Just got a GOXLR Mini and this video cleared up all the confusion and mistakes I had. Thanks!
Your Videos are, in my opinion, the best "Streamer-Guides" that one can find on RUclips. And i love the chemistry between you and Sam xD
I got a lot of knowledge from youtube but this video is an enlightenment one, rarely I got something like that. big thanks.
RE: 2PC set up
I run this to my stream PC and use the mic option you mention later the secret as you say, works like a dream. Means that I eliminate buzz/hum pretty easilly and can have less running on the game PC.
Less resources being used on that gaming machine the better imo!
I think this comes from my AV tech background at shows etc, but def both have pros and cons!
Loved the video and thanks for sharing!
the advice is insane, good job as in SP this works too in terms of EQ
I've been meaning to comment on this awhile back. You can use any wireless headset. It doesn't have to have a line in at all. Step 1: Check every box in the Broadcast Stream Mix in the Go XLR app that you want to hear in your wireless headset. Step 2: In your Sound Control Panel, in the recordings tab. Right-click Broadcast Stream Mix and go to properties. Under the Listen tab. Check Listen to this device. In the drop-down, select your wireless headset.
i don't use wireless headphones and can't find Line In Option in OBS !! what shall I do ?
This really helped especially while I used a budget mic. Now I have the Elgato Wave 3 per your recommendation and things are even better! Thanks Harris!
I’m a professional sound engineer who streams. I don’t have the go XLR, I have my own rig, but this video is really helpful and simply reminding me to treat my stream the way I treat my recordings. Thank you for the advice.
Can I just say a massive Thank You! I have been running the GoXLR with a Rode Procaster for awhile now, It certainly made my audio alot better. However after following this guide my audio quality has made a massive improvement and is now on point. Couldn't believe just changing a few things could make such a massive difference. Thanks very much :)
Getting my GoXLR delivered today and I'm heading out at some point to pick up a Blue Blackout Spark SL. This video is all I'm watching until that time comes and I'm super excited.
Got the GoXLR...shipped with the wrong power adapter. :(
I needed a solution and I watched a few of your videos on the GOXLR.
Bro i look so many toturial Videos about the GO XLR but they all just show me a little, but you explain the whole thing in every part of it who usefull for me. you the best THANKS alot!!
you know this video actually reeaaally helped me out a lot A1 content
Though I do not have a GoXLR I learned a great deal about sound management and how things just work in general. Thanks once again!!!
Thanks for starting at "SO THE UPS GUY DROPPED OFF YOUR GOXLR", cuz yea, relatable. Thanks for the vid!
Great Video, Very clear and easy to listen to! Thanks a bunch!!!! Mine should be arriving in 4-6 hours.
This video was extremely helpful! I did however run into a hickup following step 1.... Step 1 should really be, install the software. Reason being that all those goxlr devices that you mention at 3:50 don't show up until you install the software...
Thanks a man, I have watched this video before even getting a GoXLR... now I have one and BOOM, I'm set up and all is good. Nay; all it AMAZING! Thanks again.
I've watched this like a dozen times. You're the best! Thanks Harris.
Excellent tutorial!!! TY!
the goxlr is by far one of the coolest pieces of equipment I have ever bought. super useful for so many different things
I just ordered mine, and this video made me very excited to get it in a few days.
Harris I cant thank you enough for this video... I recently bought the goxlr after wanting it since release , only to find myself quite lost upon plugging it in. These were super helpful tips! Cheers.
For anyone wondering about the wireless headphones, you can also grab an aux cord and go from your headphone jack on the XLR to your line in port on your mother board and go to your settings and click more sources and go to the recording tab and click on it and make your wireless headset have sound cool little trick
❤
Phenomenal vid brother!!! Thank you so much for taking the time my man!!!! 🔥
Got me one of these and I've been in the music production field for years and this beats using a mixer or interface for streaming purposes. Usually mixers or interfaces have a huge latency that you have to adjust, but literally this thing is plug and play
