We have a very different understanding of what "minimal" means.
Tought of the same thing 🥲🤣 was thinking of something DIY style
truth
His channel is oriented towards filmmakers, but yea that title is definitely deceiving 😂😂 just keep light placements in mind
Every time I watch any of your videos, I try and figure out why when I do the exact same thing, it never looks as nice as this. Until I realized the actual quality of the light source and CRI makes a massive difference. Of course using a $10 Chinese tube light is not going to be so flattering on the skin, haha! But lights are so expensive!! What budget lights (like really third world country budget, almost house lights) would you recommend. Next video idea? Lol
Using a tube light as the key light? Whoa! The idea blew this beginner's mind! Why does everyone else recommend a softbox? This is such a great alternative...
Soft boxes are just much simpler and easier to accomplish
@@zteir I don't know, clipping that tube light to a stand looked about as simple as it comes. Setting up a COB light, adding a large soft box (which can be a pain), throwing on levels of inner diffusion, a grid box...seems to be more complicated to me.
@@RyanKemperinOhio yeah very true!! Some soft boxes are MUCH more complicated, I use the aperture soft box that is quite a bit different than most, it is super simple but just as effective
@@zteir that’s a fantastic soft box!
@@RyanKemperinOhio I know right!! So simple!! You don’t even have to put like the rods in, they just stay
The collaboration we didn’t know would happen but so desperately needed.
I did not know you could use a tube light as a keylight, now that I thought about it it makes perfect sense, thanks man!
Between you and Rob Ellis, I’ve learned a lot on here and been given the confidence to start my own channel. Thank you for that 🙏🏼♥️
You will always save time and headaches when you light your environment first before you light your talent. Much easier to light the talent to the environment rather than lighting your talent first. Nice vid
Thank you !!
Bradyyy. I have been binging on your lighting videos for a while. They have been so helpful. It'd be great if you can make a video on lighting for b/w. Keep making more content. Cheers.
Same lighting techniques I would think
So insightful as always! Love your videos Brady!!!!!
This is the coolest lighting video I have come across when looking for lighting thumbnail inspiration haha. Nice work! subbed ❤
Soo useful as always!
Thanks brady🙏🏻
Nice video Brady! thanks for sharing
I'm upgrading the look of my video studio, so this video came at a perfect time. I never considered tube lights so thank you for this tutorial.
Super dope video great lesson learned a lot my guy 💯💯💪🏾🤙🏾
Nice job on this video! Man there are so many creators I don't know about in the video space. Just found two more to subscribe to just by seeing this video. Love it! Keep at it!
Hey Paul!! Thank you so so much.
another great one mate 🤟 .. and that tree shaped gobo ‘s looking sick man 😎 🌲
Very very good presentation.... Super....thanks
I LOVE IT. I live on an studio apartment and my shoot my video guitar covers on my room and this video has help me a lot
The 🐐 as always!
On another note, I hope you feel better, man. The last outro looks like you're going through something. I know your channel isn't super personal in like vlogging your regular life, so I get why you wouldn't talk about stuff on it.
Or maybe I'm just projecting, and you were just tired.
Either, I hope all's well, if not I hope it gets there! Thanks for the content, man!
Love your videos!
Love these videos!
aw thanks!
It's Incredible 😻
Great stuff mate. This gives me some good ideas for simply how I intend to light my background for when I'm on Zoom giving photography presentations and/or teaching. That setup is basically a higher-end webcam (but still a webcam), a key light in very limited space, a rim light, and a $hi!!y background that I can't easily change. Ugh. So, a few tweaks to my background lighting should help. The battle I have is that my key light simply cannot be that bright because I need to be able to see my display while teaching Photoshop. The difficulty is the balance between having a good on-camera presence and lighting, while also being able to see the computer screen well.
Yai!!! I know what practical means in lighting now 😜 thanks !!
Amazing advices, thank you very much
great video. thanks a lot!
Thanks for coming out to Seattle to help me dial in my lighting :)
Thanks for this
Hope he got some good clam chowder out in Seattle! Great breakdown on the lighting setup Brady. Keeping the tube horizontal to maximize diffusion and keep the light soft is a great tip. Did you keep the custom white balance setting on your camera the same for the both of you guys during the shoot?
Thanks!
🔥🔥
This seems pretty maximal for a minimal lighting setup. I get that you're talking about the effect, but a lot went into the lighting.
Thank you
cool video 👍
This is anything but minimal
I wonder what a "maximum" lighting setup would look like....
Those tube lights are a great space saving idea. I have no idea where I'd put ring lights while they're not in use lol
Nicely done! When you say "stop down exposure"...which settings are you adjusting?
Aperture looks the same, can't touch shutter. Are you just adjusting ISO..🤔
"Oh, it's Ed!" 😃
In this video, you use 1/4 or 1/8 mist filter? Love the flattering looks.
Osmm
which cameras where used in this video? (including the last one at your place) amazing
Hi Brady - Love the tips! Landed here via Edward's video, you two are both amazing creative professionals 😁. Sorry quick question - How "bad" is it if I have the keylight at 5600K (using Aputure 300x for example) but other light sources are not the same temperature? Or am I overthinking here?
To clarify, I'm not talking about practical lighting or RIM light, but let's say an overhead light that's also helping light my face (as a fill light)
Thanks!
Probably not the best! Unless the 300x is completely overpowering the overhead light. I've had better luck turning off other lights that I can control or matching my key light to the color temp of the other lights in a room
@@stevenuseda6317 Gotcha, thank you Steven!
Hi! Tell me this. How come that 2 different cameras gives 2 different exposure with exact the same settings??, my face was 2-3 stop overexposed by the Canon G16 powershot and the Nikon d800 full frame it was perfect exposed. Does sensor size matter when you measure light? I used only 1 softbox, it had a bulb inside and this was my only light in the room my keylight and both cameras was set on Manual mode.
I see Brady, I press like
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Great video,I love it !
And what the key light do you use at 09:50,it's natural and moody
I Would like to have the bts of your RUclips studio 🤤
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Is the tube you're using as a key light daylight temp? Great video!!
fake it til you make it all the way baby
I was just coming to type. “IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL A MINIMAL SETUP?”
Minimal as in minimal bank balance once you've bought all the lights required for this setup.
@@Dvlx1 facts 🤣
This video had a lot of interesting info in it. At about the 9:34 mark you brought up a question I've been trying to find an answer to. In reference to the filming when the light is changing outside. I've been in a few situations on a set where the lighting person would change the key light when the lighting changes outside. I'm having some trouble fully understanding why. When the light changed outside, sun goes in the clouds, they would lower the output of the key light. I'm told its to allow for the exposure to stay the same. As a result I'd usually have to up my ISO, something I'd like to avoid doing. My thinking is why would the key light output be increased, rather than decreased, to make up for the loss of ambient light coming from outside? And if it's unavoidable, is there another way to make up for the light lost from outside without changing the key light output?
It’s always a difficult question to tackle. Essentially, you want to keep your key light on your subject the same exposure RATIO as the outdoor light. So if your light changes outside you would have to adjust that exposure using iso, aputure, or different ND.
This could be avoided with proper shoot scheduling to potentially help changing of light as well
@@BradyBessette Thank you for your response. Although it makes sense, its still such a difficult concept for me to wrap my head around it. I re-watched your video on getting the perfect exposure using false color, and in there when you mentioned about keeping the light on your subject similar to the ambient light because it looks more realistic... that definitely helped me grasp the concept a bit more.
Brady, I'm guessing for the first YT setup with the cloudy sky - your white balance was 5600k (that way the actual daylight outside would be white and not blue) and you let the tungsten lights inside be really warm? Correct?
minimal? LMBOOO
Where can find the stand for your tube lights?
what grain are you using in you recent videos >? totally feeling it !
Grain OFX in resolve ! See how I do it in my most recent color grading vid:)
What is the title of the backround music? I like it.
How do you solve problem of bright reflections in eyeglasses when using an led tube as key? The bright horizontal line is super noticeable! Calls attention to itself. Any simple fix?
2 solutions
1.Place flags/ Slightly change direction of light to a point where you do not see reflections
2.Use a polariser
Additional Tip
Carry Clear Glasses 👓 (which don't have power) for client interviews they don't reflect blue light don't give reflections you can ask client to wear these instead of power glasses which reflect blue light give blue/magenta reflections
With other lighting I have found I can make it work by raising the light. I haven't tried this using this kind of a light, though.
@@rathuone3001 Thanks for taking the time to leave a thoughtful suggestion! Very nice of you! 😀🏆
where to buy that baby pin. you forgot to share the link
Great video!I like it.Where is the boy from?
how I can make video lighting in "ring light" only
Thank you. My eyes don't like very bright light so overpowering sunlight with lights is not an option. Night set up is more realistic and compassionate for my eyes.
Whtas the tube light name?? Apollo 15x ?
What's minimal about this setup ?
minimal where
Your slash is not in the right parallelogram. You will always know the shape of your slash when you use the top of the window or door to see how the light is cut using it as a natural topper. Titan tubes and nx bulbs are not cheap but if you’re wanting a nice led light to use with good color, it’s nice to have for a run and gun. I will say these are nice efficient ways to be cheap when lighting. 👍🏾
Well I do appreciate the CC!
Would you mind sharing where you got the baby pin up top that you use to clamp the LED tube lights onto? And is that a particular light stand? It looks pretty heavy duty. Thanks
"Minimal RUclips Lighting Setup" $2k
Still waiting for the video where you make a silluette scene Bra🙂
Coming be patient plz!
8:44 15% or 50%?
All that beautiful natural lighting from the window. No need for all that bullshit.
1st comment here!
hey!
Fyi each of those tubes is $400

Brother I'm from a India I'm a huge fan. I'm making a short film. Can you please guide me to light this interior through video call. I can pay you small amount please help.
Hahahaha, if that is minimal, what is the maximum 😂😂😂
180 degree rule in first scene? Not much.
Pavo tubes are expensive I wouldn't consider that minimal
Ohhh yeah let me go sell a kidney so I can replicate this tutorial to make RUclips videos that do not get more than 100k views jajaja. I feel like I can replicate this look with a 2 dollar tint $1 mirrors from dollar store for the window and lights shadows and some amazon boxes with foil and cambric fabric for grids fo
That is a *minimal* setup 😅?
" Minimal youtube lightning" - click on the first link $1000 ....wtf dude ?
Disappointed me too. I thought it might be an affordable daylight tube with a few bells and whistles. $459 each. 😢
I almost consider the title straight clickbait
Minimalist if you are willing to drop like 5 grand lol
this is NOT minimal lol
That's way too minimal 😂
Minimal…….
Couldn't watch the entire video because of horror music, YOU COULD HAVE SHUUT THAT OFF
nice video - terrible music choice.
"Minimal" ??? ... really?
Thank you
