*** UPDATE: I have a much better method that allows you to control more than just OBS Studio. Check out there updated video here: ruclips.net/video/YHlp8fMnwMg/видео.html --- What feature do you want to see Elgato release for the Stream Deck?
This has got to be the best tutorial video I have ever watched. You explain things really clearly and very easy to follow along. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
I use obs to stream my church's services. I'm always looking for ways to improve so more people will stay home and not spread covid. You've helped me a lot this past year and maybe by helping me keep people at home, you may have even helped save lives. I'll be using this video to make a controller that will help me train someone to be my backup if I have to be gone. I really appreciate the work you do.
I'm in the process of setting this up for a smaller local church, but was curious what you used to stream the service? Do you use like a professional DSLR camera, Logitech Webcam, or something like a newer iPhone or something to stream it? I was just using my iPhone in landscape mode attached to a tripod. and then didn't know if it would be easier to have the pastor wear a wireless Microphone. Or if I should just use the audio from any mic, or wireless mic and add that to the stream in post processing and sync it up afterwards. (And when I say iPhone /DSLR/Webcam I mean using one of those hooked up to my laptop using OBS) Also do you use the El Gato cam link? Or something like a HD60 S? Thanks!
@@phlooke The lighting is pretty poor so we went with a Panasonic G7 as the camera. The iphone was too dark. We have a long hdmi cable feeding the signal back to the audio booth. From there its connected to an Elgato cam link. The church is the size of a basketball court so i had to have the camera about 60 feet forward to make it work. For audio I have a Zoom L20 connected to special outputs from our main mixer board so i have independent mixing capabilities from the main speakers. But originally I had a 2 channel interface like a Behringer UMC202HD hooked up to the stereo outputs from the main mixer to capture the same signal the main mix. If your church is small enough and well lit enough, you may be able to get a way with using an android phone/tablet and the CamOn or IP Webcam app wirelessly. I did something like that early on in covid just to get by until the better stuff showed up.
@@oldms Thanks for the recommendations/ and telling what all you use 👊 I knew of other ways to accomplish what I was trying to do, but unfortunately I was using my own personal money and time as I volunteered to help them out. So didn't really have an extra couple hundred dollars to purchase equipment that I was only going to use just for recording/archiving / streaming services. I was however debating on buying a nice new camera and mixing gear and possibly using them afterwards as upgraded streaming gear for personal gaming streams but I've been busy with IT/Network Security jobs all during COVID since so many more people were using their home PC/network as their work setup. As for the Sanctuary, it's about the size of a basketball court as well (maybe a little bigger). Thanks again for the reply. Do you spend any time editing the services? Or are they good to go right after you record them?
@@oldms Oh and I forgot to ask about when you were first getting started at the beginning of Covid before your nicer gear showed up. Which of those apps worked the best for you? The cam link (think that's the name, the one that is made by elgato) or the IP link app? I was using the El Gato cam app, but it has the option to buy the pro version for $8 and didn't know if that worked fairly decent? (Not necessarily for specific use for filming a church service but just as the easiest to use with the best quality), but I've noticed many people use their phone as a second cam on twitch for filming close up of things like opening packs of trading cards or as a static cam filming the streamers hand on their keyboard or mouse while they are playing games.
I don't need a Stream Deck! Hell I don't even stream and I already knew that you'll talk abot HID Macros but I just saw that video on my feed and I LITERALLY loved how you make the video, explaning the whole process and your style. You totally deserve more subs and more likes! Subbed and liked the video cuz it's totally worth it !!

I saw a bright, honest, and actually concerned person that wanted to help others and do it honestly! I'm subscribed and when I starting taking this video world unconditionally, I will go thru most of your videos. I wish you the best, you deserve it!
"If you haven't heard of nerd or die you haven't been watching my videos... which is ok by me because I respect your time". So many channels try to pressure you to like and subscribe at the beginning without seeing what the video is even about. Your approach is amazing and has gained you another subscriber. Keep it up!
Really useful for those of us that have extra keyboards lying around and want to put them to use instead of going out and buying a Stream Deck. I can do without the platform-specific features since I would probably stream to Twitch and RUclips simultaneously anyway. It also seems like it would be useful for making more professional RUclips videos.
In case anyone is curious, the exact same setup will work with a Novation Launchpad Mini (And probably other MIDI devices) if you don't have another keyboard
Yo bro, what a legend. I was wanting to use my Launchpad pro as a controller for my stream but was about to click off as I thought it would not work!!!
I do something similar with an Akai APC Mini and Voicemeeter Potato. The level of customization in both cases is amazing, the only thing it lacks is the ability to have icons on the physical controller.
First video I've seen not only talk about the change camera keybind. But also press the button and have it work. (May not seem like much, but i don't stream and like to see "what you say will happen" actually happen. Kudos to you good sir👍
I've been searching for days for a macro programs for my keypad, and this is exactly what I needed! Who would have thought finding software to program an extra keypad was so hard?
just found out about his vid now, ive been using HIDMacros since february 2021 after i saw some really small video with like a few hundred views. I'm SO happy that a big creator finally talks about this, its super useful!
HID Macros. You just convinced me to get a remote keypad. And wireless too. I'm using (trying to use) a drawing tablet w/screen in a multi monitor setup and toggling between the different configurations manually is just too much. A cheap numeric keypad and HID macros is just what I need. Thanks for the tip. EDIT UPDATE : If you have trouble, like me, getting HIDMacros to work, try downloading an OLDER version. Current (now) is 2.3 and it wouldn't work on my Win 10, but version 1.5 works great.
First of all, exactly what I was looking for, very helpful as usual, second THE NUMPAD TRICK! so flippin simple but blew my mind. OF course that would work, thats like pre macro strats right there.
And with this app you can create a batch file that opens multiple apps with the click of a button, This would be useful is you wanted to for eg. start stream by opening chrome, opening obs, enabling a certain scene such as a starting now screen and then having a delay that will then switch it to a gameplay scene. Thanks man this video was awesome and so helpful.
Almost exactly what I was looking for. I have no interest in OBS, but I've been using Autohotkey for years using mostly my Numpad keys to control lots of things related to music production in my DAW. I just bought a cheap Bluetooth numpad because I wanted to be able to control various things away from my desk, and I started researching how to differentiate between the external Bluetooth numpad and the one on my main keyboard. And I found no way to do this with Autohotkey (But if there is, I would love someone to point me in the right direction). I'm really not interested in OBS but the HID Macros sounds like the thing I need. A new journey begins!
the is an application called autohot intercept that apparently allows you to separate keyboards. there are a couple videos on youtube on how to set it up
if you guys really want to know the difference between a bat file and a VVS file, well here you go, a bad file allows you to issue commands to the command prompt on windows 10, and several older versions as well, or as of EPS file works in a slightly different way issuing commands directly into Windows rather than using the CMD command prompt
@@mothlet I'm actually here to figure that part out. Will voicemod still detect the separate keyboard? Not sure how scripts will apply there. SEND HELP
Nutty! Your videos are so freaking helpful. Thank you. My stream is starting to really stand out from other noob streamers like me. Someday I may even get affiliated and then it'll actually matter.
I've been using HID-macros for a long time when I'm working in my editing/designing softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, DaVinci, presonus, blender etc). HID-macros are absolutely addictive. I started with an external numpad I had laying around. The next thing I know there is an additional small full key keyboard with custom printed labels on every key. After a while you think everything can be solved by macros and that you actually might need a third full keyboard. Maybe even a keyboard for each software you use.
I own a stream deck, seeing the lcd icons on the button is 100% why I bought it. You can macro anything to buttons, but not the layering of buttons. For example you can have layout after layered layout without having to re-macro the entire deck. Something you can never do on a poor man's stream deck.
I just went trough all the comment section answering everyone asking if it works with slobs and explaining why. Your welcome lol now I'll get a life, I promise.
There's an much easier way to do so. With OBS new version you have "Keyboard shortcuts" that you can define. So you can create a "Fake Stream Deck" without using this extra software.
So just in case this is useful for someone... I have a small MIDI keyboard (MidiPlus AKM320) ..it does nothing but send midi channel, midi keys to windows (doesn't play notes or anything)). If you're running HIDmacros, it recognizes any keypress on the MIDI Keyboard as MIDI 1 Button 61 down.. So everything that's mentioned in the vid should work from the MIDI keyboard, just like it works from the num pad!!
@10:21 you could set up lioranboard button for twitch stuff and map the button to your poor man's steam deck, that should do it I think... EDIT: Got the idea from you only @nutty
08:51 I think you said opposite, numlock enabled lets u use numbers while numlock disabled use numpad as arrows and I'm not 100% sure if they are exactly copy of regular arrows.
Im going to do this also with a wireless numpad but connected to a raspberry pi to use remotely. (thesushidragon style) (he has a very expensive hand keyboard to change OBS stuff)
I'm so glad that this videos have the "likes" from that all awesome strangers (...at least for me) required until it pop up in my RUclips Home. It's really helpful and fun! Thanks!
i bought a programable keyboard (macro pad) with 16 keys from aliexpress and i made 4 layers(pages) and its really good, hotswappable low profile switches and aluminum case"
I'm using a Dualsense to control OBS. I make custom keyboard shortcuts and map them to command in OBS, then I use Joy2Key to bind the keyboard shortcuts to buttons on the controller. It's fun and the viewers think it's kawaii. Side question: I want to bind the left and right d-pad buttons so that it lowers and raises the volume of a specific audio output. But OBS doesn't have a keyboard shortcut option for that. Does anyone know a workaround/hack/extension/plug-in for this?
I think the biggest problem still is visuals. Sure another keyboard does the same thing but I'll get confused with which key does what. Ok so put something on the keys to say what it does like you said. Now the problem is you are now limited to however many keys you have available. I just don't get why no one has made a cheaper stream deck
Here I am. Trying to start into the streaming world with no experience whatsoever. Searching Amazon and adding stream deck mini to my cart. Then this pops outta nowhere. Helloooooo company bought BT numbpad I can def justify for home office excel use! You’re a life saver my dude. Also love the edit and humor on the video. Cheers!
Amazing video. I guess if we want to pilot other applications, we don't need NoobsCommander, just input the command directly into HID for what that software is expected to do when we push the extra assigned numpad key, right?
FYI if you buy a QMK supported keyboard, you can even edit the firmware. This means changing what the keyboard does at the most basic level, so once edited it will work no matter what device you are on. Using regular software, the lowest level you can edit it at is the OS level, which will be only on that specific PC. In addition to that, QMK is super powerful. You can have it do anything you can think of, including having custom function keys, like if you have another language you want to type in which uses a different alphabet, in you can make a key that when held changes to that language's alphabet. It's a really cool software.
in case anyone gets stuck with windows saying script cant be found, make sure you click the button just to the left of run application in HIDMacro, i was silly and forgot to on some of the scripts
I wrote a script on hid macro in order to toggle on/off filters with the same key. Wich is impossible with basic Noob Cmdr. Feel free to ask me if you need it. It would be my pleasure to share it with you. Very good work tho Nutty! I was struggling with luamacro/AutoHotKey for a few days and you saved my time!
I was using Strix Tactic Pro and switched to Logitech MX Keys, it is way more comfortable even though I like the tactile feeling of brown switches. What I miss most is the macro keys as a programmer and I was looking for a solution exactly like this since dedicated macro keyboards and the Stream Deck are quite expensive. Thanks for sharing. I will update my comment when the keyboard is arrived.

I just subscribed to your channel. Not only for the content, but because I loved your personality and your humour! Keep it up brother 🙂
Amazing! Thank you so much for this! Amazing
in case anyone gets stuck with windows saying script cant be found, make sure you click the button just to the left of run application in HIDMacro, i was silly and forgot to on some of the scripts
I appreciate great information and I gotta say it was a pretty entertaining video. "If you happen to see my eyes are red"
Thank you so much for this!
Useing this macro thing for my programs I make like auto flushing cache from windows
Wow! You are amazing! Nice program and nice idea!
yeaaa babyy thats what ive been looking forr
