My favorite MCU movie. James Gunn always picks the best soundtracks.
I think you'll find "Nebula's" character arc pretty amazing. It's been masterfully crafted.
You knew Marvel was in a real groove when they took D-list heroes like Guardians and made this fantastic of a movie out of them.

Fun fact: The blue alien that got Groot's finger's right up his nose was voiced by Nathan "Captain Malcolm Reynolds" Fillion. He worked with director James Gunn on the tongue in cheek horror "Slither".
P.S. "Merle" is also in "Slither"
When most people think of Marvel in a post MCU world they think of Avengers along with Spider-Man and X-Men. But Marvel has a whole cosmic side to it's universe from Nova, Captain Marvel, Silver Surfer etc. In fact alot of Marvel villains in the comics are from beyond Earth such as Thano's the dude you've been seeing show up a few time post credits and making his first major appearance in this film. This is really the only connection to the greater MCU along with the Infinity Stones for the most part you could go into Guardians of the Galaxy without watching the other MCU films and still have a great time it's that disconnected. The Guardians of the Galaxy are fall into the more lesser known even for Marvel comics fans. This film very much brought these characters into the mainstream and now James Gunn is the head of DC Studios with Guardians of the Galaxy 3 being his final MCU film as he's off to work on the new DC universe.
The original guardians were introduced in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 from 1969. This team was active in the 31st century in an alternative time-line of the Marvel Universe known as Earth-691. It seems this universe Divergences from Earth-616 (Main Marvel Universe) occurred around the early 1980s when Earth's climate collapsed in the 1980s due to the erosion of the ozone layer, a cancer epidemic broke out and humanity readapted with bionic implants, becoming a society of cyborgs. Then in 2001 Martians invaded Earth and decimated, consumed and enslaved humanity. For decades. Summed up this Earth had some tragic sci fi history compared to the mainline universe of Earth-616. The Earth-691 original team was made up of Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and finally Yondu Udonta who is in this film and a character who also exists on Earth-616 as well. Vance Astro is also a character on Earth-616 with his counterpart version having some slight changes.
The team we see in this movie Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora made their first appearance in Annihilation: Conquest #6 from 2008 set on Earth-616 at the time of the Age of Hero's, Modern day just like this movie. Unlike the The Earth-691 team who existed in the far future. Down the line the team met a frozen Major Vance Astro, of the Guardians of the Galaxy a thousand years in the future. This is how they got the name "Guardians of the Galaxy" in the comics after Vance Astro informed them about his team. This Vance Astro was from Earth-691 the universe I spoke about above somehow traveling to Earth-616 (Main Marvel Universe) another universe in the past.
Peter Quill, alias Star-Lord actually appeared in Marvel Preview #4 from 1975 as this fun Space Opera character but this has been retconned to Earth-791 or maybe it was always an alternate universe. Pretty much he was reintroduced in 2008 with a whole makeover to his character but parts of his origin story were kept like his mother dying etc. Drax first appeared in The Invincible Iron Man #55 from 1973 which is pretty cool. You'd never think by watching this film that Drax appeared in an Iron Man comic. Gamora first appeared in Strange Tales #180 from 1975 while Rocket Raccoon first appeared in Marvel Preview #7 from 1976 and finally Groot first appeared in Tales to Astonish #13 from 1960. Pretty much they went back looking through Marvel characters and formed a new Guardians team set in the mainline universe similar to how the Avengers members existed before the formation of the Avengers, Marvel just brought them together.

It's super funny to see Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket. If you ever look that up on youtube, there's videos showing him recording the voice. He cracks me up -- he's this tiny little raccoon ("What'a a raccoon?") but his voice is gigantic and filled with rage, lol. The contrast is amusing.
The guardians of the galaxy movies are my favorite marvel movies (not counting infinity war or endgame)

What an unexpected turn to the MCU. Even though I read a lot of Marvel comics back in the day, this is a totally different line up of heroes for the Guardians.
I had no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy were (or anything Marvel for that matter) but I loved them immediately. I hope you two find that love them too! Ok..gonna watch again with you!
last years gaurdians of the galaxy christmas short was so much fun, Kevin Bacon plays a pivotal role, you will love it.
Yeah so Iron Man is my favorite MCU Superhero and I love all his movies but personally when I saw GOTG V1 it literally became my favorite movie no cap, the story, the charaters and of course the music was top notch. P.s great reaction guys.

Gunn is a master of making we cry for Raccoon, tree, and shark.
Back when this movie came out, I didn't know what to think. I knew of all the other Marvel characters, including Ant-Man, but I had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy before. And even when I saw the trailers, it didn't really excite me in any way. But since I enjoyed the other Marvel movies, I decided to give it a try.
Now it's one of my favorite movies of all times.
James Gunn is currently co-CEO of DC Studios and he's rewriting the DCU.
That's the only thing giving me hope about the DCEU. Gunn better do a great job because I loved Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill in their roles.
This is definitely Marvel's funniest movie. One of the best too. I love Guardians of the Galaxy.
Not to mention that it is one of the soundtracks that accompany me without getting bored.

Who is James Gunn? As a DC fan you need to get to know him. He made the 2nd Suicide Squad film, the Peacemaker TV show. After The Flash and Aquaman 2 is the chief showrunner of all future DC movies. He will be the director of some of those future DC films as well.

It is very clever. James Gunn is genius. His film making is the best. He did not just directed the movie but wrote the story for it as well. All of them.

When I first saw the trailer for this I thought it would be ridiculously bad and didn’t bother seeing it in the theater…..what a moron. This is one of my favorites.👍
Back in the day, Guardians, Silver Surfer, snd Dr Strange were the main stoner comics from Marvel, and had wider cult followings than many comics. And Howard the Duck was another cult comic, referenced in the final scene with Benecio del Toro.
They didn’t pick up on the fact that Yondu is the actor who played Merle Dixon (Daryl’s brother from The Walking Dead).
We picked it up later in the video :) he was very blue :P

This was one of those films that could have gone one of two ways: It’s awful and everyone hates it, or it could be one of the best superhero films ever, thankfully it was the latter.
The marvel universe is huge. Guardians of the galaxy is great.

At some point someone decided the movie would be made; it left some people stunned. If you're going to make a Marvel movie, why not pick a big famous character line? Guardians Of The Galaxy? Who are these guys? These are a third or fourth tier group.

With rights issues preventing Marvel from doing Hulk sequels, Marvel was taking a gamble marketing this lesser known property. James Gunn had free reign to do what he wanted with these characters & so they are very different from their original comic book counterparts. Luckily, Gunn does have a knack for taking more obscure characters from the comics and doing something amazing with them while still honoring aspects of the comics. Throw in the awesome soundtracks and these Guardian flicks ended up being pretty huge additions to the MCU.

This was the only Marvel movie I didn't go to the theatre to see. The thought of a talking Raccoon and a talking tree didn't interest me. I streamed it and fell in love with it. Rocket and Groot are my favourite characters. Needless to say, I was in the theatre for the next two Guardians

Never heard of James Gunn ? He started at Troma, I hope you know Troma Studios. James Gunn made some of the best Movies ever, for DC too. The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker Show. You have to see both

Also you're basically past the serius marvel movies they basically take a much light hearted aproach now not as serious. Theres serious moments of course but the whole movies isnt.
