    I feel like a lot of people forget just how amazing this movie actually is, for a variety of reasons. Probably mostly because it's in the middle of Marvel's greatest run of films when they're just hitting homerun after homerun after homerun. The story of Strange is so beautifully told here... the origins and the internal journey of humility and his relationship with Christine are all really touching. The special effects in this movie are obviously awesome (watching it in IMAX for the first time was mind-blowing). And of course, the Marvel touch with blending drama and action and humor and horror... Doctor Strange is a great vessel for all those things.
    Anyway, like I mentioned... you're right square in the middle of a bunch of really great Marvel movies. Phase 3 had no business being as consistently excellent as it was, and they really pull off some amazing feats of storytelling. Excited for you guys to continue through it!

    There are six stones - the movies said this already so it's not a spoiler. Each one has a specific power and they predate the universe and the Big Bang. We've seen:
    The Tesseract houses the Space Stone (think of a wormhole you can move anywhere, your own private teleporter
    The Staff housed the Mind Stone (which created the Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver - aka the Twins), and is now a part of Vision
    The Mohab orb housed the Power Stone (which is great for blowing stuff to crap)
    The Aether is the Reality Stone (the Dark Elves wanted to use it to return the universe to darkness)
    And the Eye of Agamotto houses the Time Stone (you can stop time, move it forward, backward, and so on)
    Then there's one more we haven't seen yet.... to be continued. :o)

    Strange's photographic memory allowed him to learn more in those books than he ever had time to practice but being caught in that time loop with Dormammu allowed him time to actually perform the many spells he had absorbed in his memory over time. We don't know exactly how many times he looped but it explains why Strange is a much more competent and experienced Sorceror in the later films.

    • @HobNob-tr1nm
      @HobNob-tr1nm Год назад +9

      Also since he has the ability to loop time and has the mirror dimension, he has been able to give him self as much training time as he wants, he could have read every single book, learned every skill and perfect every spell in a minute

    • @harish123az
      @harish123az Год назад +5

      I dont buy that, he needed all of that time in the time loop to concentrate of convincing Doramavu (and getting killed), he had zero time for practicing any other spell and they dont show him practicing any spell

      @s.c.sanchez1610 Год назад +9

      @@harish123az Oh you don't have to buy anything. In fact, I recommend people do their own research when questioning random online posts. For example, there's an interview you can look up with director Scott Derrickson about how an earlier draft of the script actually included a line stating that Strange would have died a thousand times over.
      The point I was making was that we don't know for sure how many times the loops occurred based on what was shown to the audience but Strange was definitely attempting to cast spells as he was being killed by Dormammu over and over again.

      @@s.c.sanchez1610 None of that means that he did anything other than confront Dormammu though.
      "Do your own research" doesn't mean making shit up.
      You know what else explains why he's so much more competent and experienced in later films? The fact that he would have continued to learn and train after this movie. The rest of the MCU doesn't take place all at once. It takes place over time, time that Strange would spend learning and practicing. You know, like everyone else.

It takes a lot of self belief to believe you have the willpower and endurance to take on a god beyond time and space, to right the wrongs no one else can, to break the rules others lack the knowledge to see their way through. He is absolutely still arrogant. Same as Thor. It's about how that inner strength is used

    Fun fact: Robert Downey Jr. has played Sherlock Holmes on the big screen twice, so both Robert and Benedict have that in common.
    Martin Freeman played Benedict's Watson (CIA agent Ross who arrested Bucky and then Zemo in Captain America Civil War)
    Side Note: we saw his counter part, Andy Serkis, in Age of Ultron as the weapons dealer that was branded by Wakandans as a thief because of the vibranium he stole.
    Jude Law played Watson to Robert's Sherlock. Rachel Adams was also the female lead in those movies. (She's Strange's ex in this movie)
    Lots of stellar cast members, who are heavily awarded actors, have been in different movies together. So now, whenever I see them in other projects from the past, all that comes to mind now is all these actors pregaming together before being tied into one of the biggest colossal franchises, ever. The MCU family
    Thor's vision quest in Age of Ultron showed him the reveal of the Infinity Stones.
    He said this is the first time in ages that these stones surfaced and that someone is behind this.
    Cut to the after credit when Thanos takes up the golden gauntlet with shaped holes in the knuckles and says "Fine. I'll do it myself."
    Now, we just found out where another stone is. These context clues should help you figure out the direction they are going in.
    To refresh your memory that goes with the mid credit scene between Strange and Thor....in the end of Thor the Dark World, Loki disguised himself as Odin while sitting on the throne, after having a heart felt talk with Thor.
    Leading to your question at the end of that movie..."Where's Odin?"

    The time loop for the bargain was in all likelihood edited. Even though Dormammu was a powerful entity it probably didn't realize something was wrong for quite a bit. Which means that Doctor Strange was killed repeatedly in a wide range of very painful ways. And then once Dormammu realized it got angry. So, more deaths due to anger. Then Dormammu most likely tried to break it himself to no success. Again, more painful deaths. All of this Doctor Strange would have remembered. Fun film. Cheers.

    I love how this movie handles the time element... it could EASILY have been extremely OP... but they kept it from being that by allowing those who are aware it is being used and have training to break free from it. So it's not just some all powerful thing... and yes... there are consequences. A lot of the Dr. Strange stuff deals with consequences for actions. And I have no idea how the vfx team kept track of things in NY when it was getting all twisted in the mirror dimension. That had to be so hard to work on. It's extremely nice to see Strange come from the admittedly best in the world surgeon to humbling himself and accepting it isn't about him but about others. It's a fun origin story.

    The "original" story of the Hulk has nothing to do with Captain America! "During the experimental detonation of a gamma bomb, scientist Robert Bruce Banner saves a teenager Rick Jones who has dared onto the testing field; Banner pushes Jones into a trench to save him, but is hit with the blast, absorbing massive amounts of gamma radiation."

    This is easy one of my favorite origin movies out of the MCU, they made a perfect pick with Benedict Cumberbatch ! Ever since Sherlock he is just destined to play smart, kinda arrogant people but with a heart 😂I don't know what it is but I just love him in these type of roles

    Ancient one may not have been malevolently evil but masters like Cycilias is a result of breaking the rules. She did not follow the rules of forbidden practices. At least Tony was able to fix his mistake with another chance. I wonder if he had died and Ultron took over if people would have been forgiving.

    The infinity stones are left overs from the previous universe before the Big Bang are are all immensely powerful. Each stone has a specialty.
    Space Stone - the blue stone from Tesseract - has the power to open gateways to anywhere in the universe.
    Mind Stone - the yellow stone from Loki's Staff - has the power to control minds.
    Reality Stone - the Aether - has the ability to reshape reality to the holder's whim.
    Power Stone - the purple stone from GotG - has the ability to control energy.
    Time Stone - the green stone in the Eye of Agamotto (sp?) - has the ability to control time.
    Soul Stone - the orange stone that hasn't come up yet - have to wait for the movies to explain.
    No one has survived holding more than one. That's probably impossible without something powerful to help them.
    I guess I should have read more posts as @minnesotajones261 has said all of this already.

    Rob & Trin - You both didn't know who Dr. Strange was. Is it fair to say he "Opened Your Eye"? Although there have been many comic book retcons, Dr. Strange is still considered by many fans to be one of Marvel's most powerful superheroes.
    During the time loop with Dormammu, Doctor Strange suffered defeat after defeat after defeat. It is never known how many times that time loop cycled. The speculation is that Dr. Strange (with his photographic memory) was able to practice the spells from the massive amount of books he had read. He had over what was probably a VERY LONG TIME of intensive combat spell training.

    Yeah, I thought you should know that isn't Hugh Hefner. It's actually Larry King. If you watch closely he was in Iron Man 2. It's a callback to that. You need to pay attention in these movies if you want to catch these things.

      @@robtrinreact2825 Nah, I think you're confused. This Hefner guy you're doing a meme about secretly being somebody called Stan Lee is a misdirect. Stan Lee was actually a character in the Kevin Smith move Mallrats.
      OTOH I think you may be right in that,, IIRC, Larry King did play the Stan Lee character in Mallrats.

    Loki and Frigga(she was a witch) are magicians. But yes others are not really magical, Asgardians are just strong warrior alien beings. In the comics, Odin and his family are actual gods or basically not mortal. Here in the MCU Odin and Thor are not so much actual gods exactly but they are more like alien cosmic beings with long lifespans. So they are magic but magic is equal to science for them. However, for Doctor Strange and other sorcerers they are just normal mortals which as you said use in your face magic. I don't know if this makes sense but I'm open to proper explanations.

    This movie brings us up to our 2nd last Infinity Stone. The stones all have different powers, but power can be used in all sorts of destructive ways. The Tesseract is the Space Stone. It can do things like teleportation, holding things in place, controlling gravity and other natural physical forces, etc. The "Orb" from Guardians is the Power stone. While you can use the control of space to generate energy from the tesseract, the Power stone is pure energy. It even destroys most beings who simply touch it from the amount of energy it contains. The Aether from Thor 2 is the Reality stone. It has the power to control the fabric of reality. Malekith wanted to use that power to burn out all the stars in the galaxy and make the universe dark again. The gem in Loki's scepter is the Mind stone. It has the power to control minds, read minds, unlock powers hidden within and is itself a powerful sentience. The Eye of Agamotto from this film is the Time stone and controls the flow of time. You can use it to time travel, or move objects forwards or backwards through their own pasts and futures, or even just to view alternate possible timelines.
