Legend. Totally on the money with all he says. I've met him and he's a thoroughly top guy. His vocal and guitar talents are also A grade. And Cc Deville made all the money. Tragic 🤘
I try to turn on my friends and acquaintances -who are allegedly knowledgeable of 70s and 80s rock - onto Y&T and they look at me like I have two heads. They’ve never heard of them and won’t lift a finger to check them out. Dave pisses rings around his contemporaries...
Brilliant front man and guitarists. Seen em over a dozen times and each time always come out saying "wow, what a show". Never short changed on show length. Wish they'd got more recognition but happy enough that the musicians out there know and respect Dave and the guys
I have always loved I Believe in You. Every Y&T song is underrated. Guess what ~ In Rock We Trust is hanging on the wall in a very famous 80s movie. Not the full album but that to me is the coolest thing ever ~ it's background appreciation, my favorite song is on that album. Rock n Roll's Going to Save the World. (Don't you know, that's the way we're going to change it!) Thank you to Dave Mennecetti & EVERY SINGLE one of his fans. Let's keep them touring! 🎸🎙️👩🎤🤯
I know that commenters on RUclips always say this about all kinds of various bands and musicians, but this time it's very fitting - Y&T and Dave Meneketti are so underrated.
Dave is highly respected in the metal world for sure. Maybe modern metal people do not know who Dave and Y & T are but celebrity rock stars and hard core metal fans realize how important Dave is to the metal world. Actually him and sammy hagar both growing up in the same city should do some music together. Y & T & sammy started in early 70s but are better known in the 80s
There's reasons behind everything, but regarding the music industry, a lot of bands didn't make it because they would not put up with the b******* the labels would require and some men and women would not compromise their morals... Dave's just hard to deal with, but it's almost like every song they write is a hit, like made for radio - But metal not commercial pop! If Dave is so picky about his food I'm pretty sure he's pretty picky with record label industry people. My personal belief coming out of the music industry is Maniketti probably told a lot of executives to f off, & he wrote what he wanted.
I saw an interview with Sammy Hagar where he said his band and Y&T were both good bay area bands, but he couldn't explain why Y&T didn't blow up more than they did. Although it's heavily implied that the record labels squandered a gold mine.
Dave is probably the most down to earth person in music. Went to his 50th birthday party where he performed a 3 hour show. With the exception of Stef Burns, every current and former member of the band was there to jam with him.
@@g_man2177 no I have not and do bear in mind that I live on an entirely different continent, so even if you buy a bottle for 30 bucks or so, I probably have to pay double that to ship it and import it. That's steep as a decent bottle of wine here lies between 8 and 20 USD.
Dave Meneketti is a FANTASTIC song writer, frontman, and a kick ass guitar player! I saw them several times in the 80’s as an opener, and thought how awesome it would be to see them as a headline act. Also, I didn’t realize just how good Dave was until the first time I saw them live. Phenomenal! Dave, if you read this, YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Thank you for all of the great music!
I was heartbroken to learn about Phil Kennemore's death, and Joey Alves as well. But none so much as Leonard Haze's. He was a hero of mine, and probably the one I air-drummed to the most in my life. I'm glad you're still with us to keep the Y&T spirit alive and kicking!!!
I live in San Jose and Dave is a legend in these parts. Seen these guys so many times in clubs around the Bay Area and Santa Cruz. He's a great player and frontman.
I'm in the Bay Area too and I've seen them play at every hole-in-the-wall that would have them and they never failed to kill it. Mountain View Theater, Sacramento State, Great America, The Stone, One Step Beyond, The Omni and their "farewell" show at the Cabaret
SJ civic on Black Tiger my first concert. Great time! Music was changing fast literally shortly after with Exodus Metallica and Slayer. Back then you could go to the city and north bay and get into clubs under age . 🤘
I won’t call Dave “underrated” because anybody that understands music knows just how good he is but he has one of the most “under appreciated” voices in rock. When it comes to moving air while he sings, he’s up there with the greats! So much power in that voice. To expand on the idea he brought up, picture this: Dave Meneketti, Peter Frampton, Jack Blades and Deen Castronovo! Tell me those songs and harmonies wouldn’t be mind blowing!🤯😆
I've been on a Y&T kick for over a month now! I have everything from Earth shaker too Facemelter on CD and been playing them in my work truck and can't get enough!👍✌️❤️🤘
I grew up in southern California and Y & T was played often in the 80's on the local radio station KLOS. Y & T were at the station and my friend went to the station to try and meet them. This was in the late 80's. My friend got to meet Dave and Dave had made the comment to my friend that "if this next record does not do it for us then we are done as a band.". My friend told Dave how much he loved Y & T and how devastated he would be if Y & T broke up and Dave gave my friend a huge hug and said "Thank you, that means so much to me". Dave seems like one of the most down to earth cool guys that you would just want to hang out with.
I remember hearing the song Black Tiger on the AM rock station KKBZ out of Ventura, CA in 1981 or '82 and being blown away by how heavy and kick-ass it was.
Probably my all time favorite guitarist, along with Page and Schon. He’s a triple threat-vocally, songwriter and player. This man is a certified bad ass..
Y&T is one of My all time Favorite Bands! Even when Jerry was promoting in the 80s till present day...I love Yesterday & Today /Y&T. And always will. I remember buying every album they released, later cassettes then CDs. I'm thinking it would suck in music world today, bcz videos and shit are free...I never wud it predicted Music being free (media digital and shit) basically no one sells records except the thrift stores. Actually, it was anti white, black racists that killed middle America R&R. Before Im called a racist, The head anti white, anti two parent family, racist woman, that became the head of MTV did an interview in the late 90`s with 20/20 or dateline and bragged how they set out to kill white suburban middle american family values America music and everything it represented. Why do you think the founder of MTV had enough and sold MTV for 20 million dollars. He was fed up with all the anti white, black racists threatening and accusing him of being a racist. When asked why he sold MTV he detailed how he was an all American kid that loved middle America and grew up on R&R and he didnt have a racist bone in his body. It doesnt doesnt make me racist because I grew up in the mid west and was raised listening to all these great rock bands. He had rent a mob thugs protesting and accusing him of being a racist. He eventually said, I dont need this BS and sold what he created and called it a day. He also said, Rock and Roll is predominantly made up of white musicians and white fans. This doesnt make it anti black or racist. then he mentioned soul train and how most of their artists and fans are black and how that isnt racist. Ok, im done.
when I moved to the bay area in '83 Y&T was already established not just locally but outward (Japan, EU) , I had to wait over a year for them to return "home" and saw them at a Halloween show and they just KILLED. Been a fan since and for life. Fun note: His family had a small music store MK music in Oakland and it was where I rented my first 2 guitars. Very nice family and Dave has always seemed to be such a chill kinda guy. Great vid!
Y&T and I'm 66 yrs old and still playing some of Dave's amazing licks and remember a live tv concert back in the eighties and couldn't believe a guitarist and front man "that incredible" how he made it all look easy on a live performance! Such a seasoned musician in control from the first power chord! Amazing voice and inspiration to the Y&T Rock crowd. He's, just a red blooded fun loving all American boy!!!Playlist....
Black Tiger was one of my favorite albums as a teen, Dave it helped me get laid, as I was the only guy in our group that knew who you were and this girl was blown away, cause she knew you too, I was in lol
Y&T was my 1st concert in 83-84 in N.E. Ohio standing front row in an auditorium the sound and power of the opening song Mean Streak live blew me away!!! Fan ever since!
Dave used to come to our pizza place in Cupertino near where I assume he lived all the time. One of our employees, local high school kid, was pretty star struck and Dave used to give him tickets when he played all ages shows. Super nice guy. Like the others in this comment section say, he really deserved much bigger success.
I feel so fortunate to see Y&T several times through the '80s. They always put on a great show. A large group of my friends here in Sacramento saw Y&T has one of the best bands on the scene and still do.
My first concert ever was Dokken/Twisted Sister and headliners Y&T. Memphis Tennessee, auditorium North Hall 1983. I remember the drummer mooned us from the tour bus window lol. Dave is a class act through and through
Saw Y&T last night in Reno. Criminally underrated band. Dave is ageless. His voice sounded great and he’s such a great bluesy lead player. They sound great live. If they play near you go check them out!!
I grew up in Fairfield Ca which smack in between San Francisco and Sacramento so I cut my teeth on Y&T rock...my intro was Black Tiger 1982..I have seen Y&T so many times over the decades...still rocks still love Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Streak.....still love those releases still love Y&T....still have a ton of Y&T memorabilia....oh yeah.....good times....
Thank you! This was great...I could listen to Dave tell stories all day long...absolutely my favorite band and feel so lucky to still have them rocking today...Dave is so underappreciated as a singer, guitarist & song writer...can't wait for more
Great to see Dave healthy and very much sharp on what happened. He s a great musician that never got what he deserved. Love Dave thanks for the great music!
They are one of my most favorite bands from the electric 80's decade love Y and T so much when you can play the lead guitar great sing great with the rest of the band so many great sons and albums Mean Streak my favorite thank you Y and T
Guitarist . Y and T , DaveMeneketti fan from the beginning. He is a great frontman, guitar player, singer . He has a ton of energy , positive outlook, fun guy. Thanks for being great Dave . I will never forget you soloing standing on the table where we were seated in San Francisco . No one is better.
I loved these guys from the 1st time that I saw them. Black Tiger tour. Would love to meet Dave, when they next hit the UK. Such a salt of the earth sought of guy.
I’d never heard of Y&T when I saw them at Birmingham NEC (awful venue) supporting AC/DC in 1982. I went straight out and bought Black Tiger, as soon as From the Moon started I was hooked. What a great musician and man Dave is. Really hope Y&T come back to the UK at least once more when the pandemic is over 🇬🇧
Saw Y&T 10 or more times all in Northern California. Every show kicked total ass. And Dave and the gang lived close enough to go home and get a good night's rest to go do it again two nights later. We thank you 😁
Yah i lived and loved the 80's and 90's era. Listened to Y&T, Guns N Roses and Whitesnake. I still to this day listen to all the bad ass hairband hard rock. Y&T is still at the TOP of my music list and STILL LISTEN to Y&T all the time!!! Y&T RULES!!! Keep rockin Dave! 😎🎸🏁
Dave is such a great guitarist, singer and front man. Still making great music to this day. I always feel confident when I buy any Y&T release, it will all be good! I saw Y&T in the 80's, but not as much as most other bands. Always seemed like they didn't stop in Detroit as often as most other bands.
I grew up in CT. my brother, our friends and I were always checking the advocate newspapers for bands coming and record stores for Y&T concerts and tickets and they never came to our area in the 80`s.
Dave's a legend to me. Club scene ? Howzabout High School dances ? First i knew of the band was like late '73, Halloween dance at a rival HS. Friends said i should go but didn't. They said it was like Winterland....No one danced. Just rocked out. '76 i get turned on to the ST. Life Changing !! Saw them at Winterland for that and The Old Waldorf before Earthshaker. Great!! edit,,,,Next, Journey. Pretty funny.
I love Y&T and Dave. This guy is the reason I started playing guitar jumping around on my bed with my guitar singing open fire 12 or 13 years old. I still listen to them today and always will.
I was lucky enough to be living in the central California area during the 80's. These guys opened for everybody and always put on a awesome show. Sometimes better than the headliner. Right before Covid hit I saw them at Count's Vamp'd in Las Vegas. Dave can still sing and play that Les Paul like crazy! Love this band.
Best voice in rock'n'roll ! I love y&t and did it from pretty much the beginning, there isn't many day's where i don't listen to at least one of your songs, thanks for this very honest insight ❤
I've been a fan since seeing Mean Streak on MTV! Ran right out and got. I finally got to see Big man Dave in 2019 with 6 of my high school friends and our wives at Gas Monkey Live in Dallas. He's still got it! Can't wait to see him again!!!

This band had the whole package-killer talent, killer players, killer performers and some fantastic songs. The record company people had no idea what they had. Should have been one of the biggest acts of the 80s for sure. Saw Dave and the current band a couple of years ago in a club and he still amazes on the guitar and as a frontman vocalist. Simply one of the best.
Love this guy, I grew up in Fremont Ca and was in high school in the late 70's, and we used to see these guys all the time locally. Super talented musician
Dave has the most incredible voice in rock. His range and melodic spectrum are unmatched. I've felt this way since the early 80s. I've seen Y&T in stadiums (Day On The Green), in small venues (The Catalyst), and I've seen Dave as a solo artist (Moe's Alley). It's now 2022 and I still hope I can catch him one more time. Rock on Dave.
I had never heard of Y&T until '83 I think when a mate of mine at college gave me a spare ticket to go see them at Victoria Hall in Hanley Stoke On Trent, touring Meanstreak....still one of the best concerts I've ever been to, proper musicians and live...immense.
Seen y n t over 5 times,, i have a great pic of me and Dave from years ago he is such a gent nd has time for his fans and i have over the years never seen as good a gig as i have witnessed with Y and T ,, Dave is the last original member and i have most of their vinyl ,,always loved these guys ........
Y&T are one of my favorite rock bands since way back in the day. Dave is one of my guitar heroes. Seen Y&T a bunch of times and they always bring it. Dave plays and sings as well as ever. Long live Y&T!!!
As a Bay Area ( San Jose ) Native, I grew up on Y&T on KOME, and KSJO FM Radio. I know as guitarists, we can quite often overuse the term "underrated", but Dave MORE than earns that title! People always talk that way about Nuno Bettencourt, Jake E Lee, etc etc ( and they deserve the acclaim for sure! ) but man, Dave has been doing this so long, he ALMOST fits into the era of 70s Rockers like Peter Frampton, Pat Travers and Aerosmith.
I grew up in the East Bay and loved Y&T. I was a little younger than most on these comments but I definitely remember Dave and I remember those 2 radio stations.
I used to listen to them practice on the way home from Elementary school and said these guys Rock they should be on the Radio and a few years later they won Battle of the Bands at our local community college and got there first record deal. I just saw them last year and Dave still Rocks. East Bay California Home of Y&T 🤘
In the mid 70s we used to go see Y&T at clubs on the Sunset Strip. Amazing to see the band from a few feet away. Yes, Y&T should have been huge and so glad that Dave explains why here and without bitterness. Just the facts...Dave, you are amazing! This was also the era where you could see Judas Priest at the Whiskey before they broke big and right before the hair metal scene emerged.
One of the best voices and front men guitarists of his time
Dave is a legend. He still plays lead guitar like a boss and can still hit all the notes on vocals. Y&T🎙

His voice sounded great and he’s such a great bluesy lead player.
They sound great live.
If they play near you go check them out!!
Y&T Rules & Dave is an f’n Legend!!🎸
I Love Dave's whole attitude, personality, outlook, and everything.
Y&T played at my high school, I've been a huge fan ever since. As great a band as anyone!
Dave and Y&T rocked my life in ´83 with Contagious. And they still do. I´m a huge fan for life.
I love your voice, talent and 35 years later still loving your music.
Dave is one of my main guitar influences, he plays like nobody else pure emotion
Yeah, even youtuber rick beato had him on his list of the greatest rock guitarists of the 80`s.
@@johnSmith-yn7dg really
the one video of his I didn't see
that's a great channel
@@garycoates4987 Yep! :) Actually, It may have been the video with the greatest guitarist from each decade.
I just love this. Plain and simple. Love it... Dave is a golden spirit.
Great band and Dave can not only sing his ass off but a great guitarist as well. KEEP ON ROCKIN Y&T!!!!
We thank you 😁
I saw them in the UK early 1980s, still one of the best live gigs Ive ever seen, and been a fan ever since. Love Dave's blues stuff too.
Dave is awesome!!! Been a Y&T fan from the beginning!!!
Criminally underrated band.
I always thought he was a great guitarist but definitely one of the best rock singers. Great voice!
The most POWERFUL voice in the Hear N’ Aid song, “We’re Stars” collaboration....hands down!💪
Yah i lived and loved the 80's and 90's era.
😎🎸🏁
Just saw Y&T a couple of months ago for probably the 50th time since the mid 70’s. Dave is just incredible and still killin it!
Y&T was an amazing band. Thank you Dave!!
Loved Y&T in the 80s, saw them open for another band probably 5 times. After watching this I like them even more. You rock Dave!!!
I haven't listened to much of Y&T but after seeing how cool Dave's outlook is i'm fixing that TODAY!
The best..singer..guitariste...YandT. The best band..yes i am fan....
61 and still rockin' to Y & T on vinyl along with my friends.
Man i love dave and the boys...such great music and guitar playing..so underated
Saw them in Hollywood in the late 70s. Yesterday and Today.
Legend, absolute legend, 'I Believe In You', say no more !
Just the best Dude, honest, extremely talented and still going, Dave and Y&T are the best and a real example to other bands and singers.
10 was their best album with just great song after great song. I have listened to it and will always listen to it.
Love this guy, I grew up in Fremont Ca and was in high school in the late 70's, and we used to see these guys all the time locally. Super talented musician
Rockhero of the eighties.❤️
Ok., of the nineties and the new millennium, as well.😍👌
Rockhero of FOREVEEEEER.❤️
Full respect. Brilliant Musician, Singer, Guitarist....
Love hearing Dave's take on the music business. Can't wait to see more!
I’ve always loved Y&T. And Dave is awesome.
In high school I told people I was Y&T's fan.... They deserve to be so much bigger than they were.
This is such a great interview! I learned so much about Y&T and more about the record industry. Dave is great to listen to.
One of my all time favorite guitar players.
I used to listen to them practice on the way home from Elementary school and said these guys Rock they should be on the Radio and a few years later they won Battle of the Bands at our local community college and got there first record deal. I just saw them last year and Dave still Rocks. East Bay California Home of Y&T 🤘
Thank You, Dave. Thank You Y&T. You are the BEST !!!
Might be the most underrated hard rock/heavy metal band.
Meniketti is great. Love to hear him play and sing.
Highly underrated singer, songwriter, guitarist.
