  • Daikin Fault Code H3 E3 U2-01
In this video I am diagnosing which part is faulty on a Daikin unit that stops working intermittently. As the unit was running completely fine when I was there, I needed to temporarily make some changes to the wiring as a process of elimination. I suspect the outdoor PCB is faulty but time will tell.
H3 - High Pressure Switch Fault
This is stating that there is a fault with the high pressure switch. This fault occurs when the system is in an off state but is still registering that the high pressure switch is open circuit. The only time the switch should be in an open circuit, is when the system is in a high pressure state.
E3 - High Pressure Switch Activation
This is stating that there has been a high pressure error on this system.
U2 - Outdoor Unit Inverter PCB DC Voltage Shortage
This is an issue with the incoming power supply. It is detected by monitoring the DC voltage on the inverter PCB, and if the voltage on the DC circuit of the inverter is above 700vdc or below 200 vdc it will trigger the fault. The over voltage is due to an instability in the incoming voltage, while this issue could also cause the under voltage, this can also be caused by not having all three phases being switched onto the inverter PCB. This can be due to a fault with the inverter contactor or even the Noise Filter PCB.

So it turns out the HP switch was the problem.
I ended up leaving it like this for a month and it didn’t trip out so I returned and replaced the HP switch and it hasn’t missed a beat since. I made another video that shows me replacing it.

I like the video mate, but what else is protecting against a H/P trip?

Thanks mate. Nothing, but I wasn't sure how else to diagnose the actual issue. I tested the HP Switch and it checked out fine. So I thought it was the PCB spitting out random fault codes. I monitored the pressures to confirm the system wasn't running at a high head pressure and then looped the hp switch temporarily (if the system still cut out with a high pressure fault then i new it was the board). Long story short, it didn't trip again after looping the HP, so I returned and put a new HP switch in. The system hasn't missed a beat since and its been months. It's a confusing one because the original HP switch checked out fine however I think it might of been a bit dicky because it looks like that was the issue.

Hi, I am getting an E3 fault which says actuation of high pressure switch (HPS). When the daikin indoor unit is running on cool after about 20minutes it often turns off and just blinks green. When i turn it on fan mode it will run but often the green light blinks whilst it runs and the air coming out has a slight pulsing sound/feel. Do you think its possible it could be the same component which has gone faulty? (The HPS)
Thanks for the clear good video very useful 👍🏻

The first thing I’d do is check the continuity across the HPS. If it is a closed circuit then the system should be running. Simply as that.
I’d run the system and make sure all the components are running (indoor and outdoor fans + compressor). Assuming they are all running fine, I’d check the running pressures and watch them for like 20 minutes to see whether or not the system is actually running with a high head pressure. If you sit there for like half an hour and the head pressure doesn’t rise then chances are it could be a faulty HPS. It’s easy, all you need to do is run it and watch the pressures and that will tell you the real story.

@@maracservices Thanks for the speedy and detailed reply! I have been waiting for the intermittent fault to happen again, which today it did. I checked the continuity across the HPS and it was open circuit, perhaps the HPS is okay.
I don’t have gauges or a D checker to check the pressures which as you show is probably the next wise path to take. Do you happen to cover inner west concord way?
