You two are geniuses, I love how you have always kept yourself in the realm of “budget” instead of slowly growing in price over time as you get more popular.
I've had the Helios lens for a while and it's amazing to use on films. It's always a pain to pull focus with vintage still lenses, but this 3D rehouse it's a amazing solution, will certainly try it out!
Thinking about it, the only thing that puts me off is the big price jump for larger front filters, most of mine are 62mm. I guess for this to be most practical I'd have to cine mod everything to share a single larger filter size... Or cheet and step it back down to 62mm, but that might look dumb! 😂
This is awesome guys. Short tale about me: I almost pulled the trigger on a 44-2 before the pandemic. It costed 30 bucks then. Now it's 50. Massively regretting that decision now lol
Nice one Guys. Also If you ever get a hold of any Anamorphic lens, I will really appreciate if you make a detailed video on it. It really fascinates me the new type of imperfect image that the anamorphic lenses bring on the table as far as the medium of Cinema is concerned..
Cracking videos lads, I’ve been looking at old FD and Leica Lenses for rehousing! This seems like a really cost effective way of doing it! Meaning I can spend more on the glass itself!
@@TheFilmLook a kind RUclips is a rarity indeed! 😊 Belive me when I say, I know how hard it is to make strong seo vids without feeling like your selling out! ☹️
super cool! couple questions what are the tolerances like for this? i feel like, the focus gear on the helicoid is kinda loose, so the 3d printed shell would also feel loose. The same goes with many aputure rings i feel also! what is bearing the load of the lens to the camera mount? is it the shell, or the original housing adapter? How did you get your f stop markings to align properly? outside of wide open and fully stopped down?
This is so cool! I may have a friend with a 3D printer that I could prostitute myself to get them to make this for me, and when that doesn't work I'll just give them cash. Extra steps, but to make a stronger version of this you could use a resin 3D printer for maximum smoovness, then make silicone molds of the parts and cast them with strong as fuck urethane resin!
We use a m42 to EOS adapter, then an EOS to e mount. It's a long way around, but we use a lot of canon lenses too. You can get a m42 to e-mount adapter.
How awesome! I hope to be able to do this one day if I get a 3D printer. I am planning on buying the new A7s III, did you use the Super35 crop on your A7s for the vintage lenses, or how does it work? Do you recommend me getting a 3D printer? IF it is 300 Dollar roughly, I might have the money. Imagine how much cool filmmaking stuff you can make.
No, there is no need to use the crop mode with the vintage lenses. I've wanted a printer for about 3 years now and it's great for projects like this. I'm also printing loads of movie props which is the fun part. If you are going to get one, watch as many videos about how to use them beforehand as there is a big learning curve. Also, make sure you have the time and space to have one running. We've printed a bunch of stuff for the studio which we will be showing off in a studio tour soon.
Unfortunately not. We have a 44m too and it's slightly different size. He does have a bunch of other vintage lens designs on the website., so check them out.
hello, I have this kind of lens series in my hand, I saw you on youtube, the system you applied to the helios lens is very nice, I want to make the lenses in my hand with your support, can you help me thank you

We are still just indie filmmakers like you guys :)

That's pretty sick. I bought a custom lens that used the Helios 44-2 58m awhile back. Love that lens!
Cool, how did they customise it?

Oh crap! Can't wait to do this! I was looking for a project this weekend!
Thanks for the tips! It's funny to see Parkside screwdriverset there :)
This is awesome I found one from the same person for the canon fd 50mm 1.4!
Nice! Yeah they seem to do a bunch of really great ones now :D
Have you experimented more with this? Very interesting idea
Credit to the creator mountain breeze studio
Yeah massive credit goes to them. The amount of work it must have taken to design something like this is crazy.
This is awesome guys.
Short tale about me: I almost pulled the trigger on a 44-2 before the pandemic. It costed 30 bucks then. Now it's 50. Massively regretting that decision now lol
Well I would still say they are worth 50 compared to a brand new lens, but I would be the same. Just keep looking as there are loads out there.
For the screws cracking the plastic, you could try to get those thread inserts in there
Wow! So impressive , can you do something like that for mir 1b 37mm ?
Is there any chance of being able to do the same but in aluminum? With a CNC machine.
Cool idea for rehousing the Helios 44-2. Does it really take 22 hours to print all the parts?!?
Nice one Guys. Also If you ever get a hold of any Anamorphic lens, I will really appreciate if you make a detailed video on it. It really fascinates me the new type of imperfect image that the anamorphic lenses bring on the table as far as the medium of Cinema is concerned..
We've wanted to get an Anamorphic lens for a while now. We still just use the fishing wire trick.
Amazing, do you have the file for the lens cap?
Now that's taking DIY filmmaking to another level.
Ok, I don’t know what you did except print a plastic housing. How does that change the lens? How is the optics different than when you started?
I have vintage primes I'd like to convert to cine ...Minolta. MD 21mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm. Can you make 3D printed housings? what is the cost?
Looking good! ;) I have that lens and it's great! Love the vintage lenses for video.
Thanks for sharing guys!
Thanks for watching!
great! where can we get the EF mount? I believe it can be 3d printed as well?
thanks
what are your tips to avoid the cracking on screws?
I was wondering what materials should you use to print this kind of housings, I'm kinda new to 3d printing
Does the rehousing having threads to put on filters itself? Or do i HAVE to buy a step up ring?
What do I search for when it comes to that box of screws and screws 😂
Cracking videos lads, I’ve been looking at old FD and Leica Lenses for rehousing! This seems like a really cost effective way of doing it! Meaning I can spend more on the glass itself!
Absolutely!
Sweet! I've a bunch of M42 lenses this would be brilliant for!
Did this video bring you to our channel Dr Nerd?
@@TheFilmLook yeah, I think I was searching for 'budget cine lenses' or something similer.
@@oncameramastery Good stuff! Good to see RUclips is being kind to us for once haha

Would love to know how the 3d gear rings compare to the bought ones from say Simmod.
We do have other gear rings and they all work well. I've never herd of Simmod Lens but we will check them out.
I gotta try this!
Awesome video! Great idea!
Glad you liked it!

We just all of our lenses doing now.
@@TheFilmLookhello...I wanted to ask if you have more lenses rehoused
i want to do this fantastic mod but also want add a vnd filter, could i just mount my vnd on the plastic front portion?
Have you continued to do this and have updated methods?
I got a 3D Printer it’s awesome Some of the stuff you can print is the ender three pro
Ahh nice! What have you been printing?
You guys are fantastic, Can you focus to infinity with this housing
Everything on the lens works as it should. It's just easier to operate now.
Great info, And very useful!
Glad you enjoyed it
Why not just use some threaded inserts to avoid cracking the plastic?

Great videos - love your style boys!
Cheers Mr Hawkes!
Awesome video as usual..You guys are the best

i'll take the orange gears 😁

Print-ah!
Which adapters do you have on the rear of the lens? I'm having trouble with the adapters I've got
You figure this out? I can’t get the damned bottom part on myself either
This is awesome. 🔥🔥
Got to do our other lenses now.
does this work with Helios 44m-6??
Any recommendations for rehousing a Schneider Kreuznach Cinelux anamorphic 2x lens?
We don't, but that would be an amazing upgrade. How is that lens?
@@TheFilmLook Gorgeous with a Helios
Just a Quick question, the picture cover shows the other (maybe more recent version) of the helios. Does this one works as well ?
I want to have the lens set I have made this way, can you help me?
Does it involve screwing into the lens?
hello, I have this kind of lens series in my hand, I saw you on youtube, the system you applied to the helios lens is very nice, I want to make the lenses in my hand with your support, can you help me thank you
Could anyone tell me if this would work for a Helios 44m?
how to buy this for Helios-44-2 58mm。
If you find a local 3d printing shop in your area, they will print the design found in the description.
Great !!!
Thansk!
DO you guys print it?
И что улучшилось?
the helios 44-2 has a smooth focus ring already right? would I have to disassmble my 44m-4 since the focus ring is stiff?
Спасибо пацаны! это охуенно классно
I love my Helios 44-2 for video and photography!
