I gotta say..…this video and the level of detail you went into with it, left me smiling during the entire time. It touched on all of my favourite subjects of cinema, vintage & industrial production. This episode is a keeper. And by the way, the best advertisement I've ever seen. It's informative, and worth watching every second of. Thank you for the effort I learned a lot.
This person as well as the channel is endlessly inspiring. I'm an accountant who loves photography and videography. Don't remember an episode after which I wouldn't escape outside to do some photos. Just amazing. I have so many feelings after each episode. I wish you guys good luck, billions of views, hope everything works out for you. 80% of movies are not as interesting as this.
Thank you so much Ilya... all we could ever hope for is being inspiration to you. Billions of view? I am all for it, but we are in a small niche... and there are few in that niche who really care about filmmaking.
This is more than a Documentary... Grateful to you for giving us the opportunity to see the entire process of the project. Personally I love and collect vintage lenses and often the lenses are used with many projects using adapters with Sony FX3 or FX6.
This is pure Cinematic Optical Cosmic Bliss. It's amazing how GL Optics managed to do all that work in a short time, with such precision and beauty. This documentation is a masterclass of definitive know hows in cinematic optics. Because the knowledge it gives, one can expand in a lot of other subjects, and conclude many stuff discussed in so many forums all these last 6 or 7 years. This a really good conclusion that myth busted for me, for example, the real differences between the K 35's and the FDs. The jokes, Snatch Cameos and stealing the K 35 were amazing! Can't thank you enough for all of this. Greetings!
Absolutely… that was an amazing logistical feat that they where able to do achieve effortlessly (I' am sure it was a LOT of effort). Very happy you found this educating and useful. As always, we hope this will be a "must see" for everybody interested in our industry and craft - from creatives to technicians - and that it might plant a seed into the next generation.... and while we at that… why not do it in an entertaining way 😇 Thanks for your kindness and for hanging around

I just have to say that you produce some of the best videos on RUclips. Your videos are thoughtful, well tempered, and smart. Your small travel video portion was easy to watch and quite informative. Keep doing what you're doing.
thank you for showing a rare behind the scenes of lens servicing and rehousing. I watched the whole episode and learnt a lot. As a engineer and an aspiring photographer, that was a treat. Loved the story/background, detail given with regards to the rehousing work, the improvements possible during the work, and the peek behind the production as well. A really great piece. Thank you.
You guys always do such amazing work! Like usual very thorough and with such stellar production values. I knew rehousing was a complex endeavor but this really helps me to appreciate just how much tech, labor, and expertise goes into it. It was also very helpful to see that example of balsam separation that appears more like specks or splotches, rather than haze. Just about anyone who likes to collect vintage glass might benefit from that evaluation section.
Super happy you find this useful in that way… let's hope that it makes its way to all those vintage lovers… Thanks for your kindness and for being around!
Thanks a lot… that is always a bit of a problem… indeed the script was twice a s long, and I realised "on the fly" that I was loosing that focus, so I tightened it a lot… but, I lost a lot of good information, too. Glad you thing I got a decent balance.

Hey Nikolas, I have been watching through all your videos the past few weeks and felt I was obliged to write this. With the amount of work you have put into all your videos, it is only fair for me to put in a comparatively small amount of work to complement you as sincerely as I can. It must be nothing short of a Herculean undertaking to create the videos you have produced in the past few years. Every second, every frame of all your videos has passion and an artistic vision rarely seen on RUclips, if not any medium I have yet witnessed. I think I can speak for everyone who watches your videos, and certainly everyone who comments on your videos, that what you produce is of the highest caliber. It is the greatest insult that your work has only seen a modest, albeit still not shabby, amount of attention. I am sure you already know how great your content is, as I have read your comments to other people who are essentially saying the same thing, but I sensed a negative feeling in your comments, which is why I feel obligated to say this: If you are ever sitting there late at night wondering if the work you put in is worth it, or if the people watching your content enjoy it, or if any of this is contributing to people in a meaningful way, I can let you know with absolute confidence that it all is. Your videos give me and many others hope that people with real talent and ability are producing worthwhile art and educational content, not just the garbage that is popular with many nowadays. I don't know if you ever feel that way, or if you have negative people in your life telling you that, but if you do, I hope you return to this comment to remind yourself of your fans and supporters. I really just want to give you a friendly handshake and thank you for all the inspiration you have given me to pursue things that I find interesting to the same level of excellence that you have, including dabbling in filmmaking. It would truly be an experience to share a beer with you and hear all the stories behind your productions and meet the man behind the camera. I apologize if this sounds sappy or emotional, but your enthusiasm, humor, and expertise that you bring to your videos are truly infectious, and I felt it necessary to state the feelings I have when watching your content. I wish you the best of luck, and thank you for the journey you have taken me on so far. (Please like this comment to let this man know you feel the same way about him)
Hey Funky, thanks a lot for taking the time to write this comment… I much appreciated the kindness and the motivation. It is great that you honour the artistic and educational part of what we are doing… we couldn't be happier than to be seen in that light. Yes, admittedly, we invest a lot into these videos: time, money… and most importantly passion, for a comparably limited reach. I have no illusions about the potential size of our audience, and neither does RUclips. We cater for a small niche and for the even smaller, higher end, and passion driven people within that niche. Considering this, we have a quite good standing in the industry by now… and that is what matter. Beyond what we do here, our work on RUclips gave us access and respect in the top tier league of filmmakers and manufacturers, and I am very proud and grateful for that. So, don't think I am negative about what we achieved - If I was, I would stop doing it - of course, we could do better, and I keep working on getting there. A tiny bit of complaining helps ;-) I am German and complaining is in our blood. If you ever leave your Vault and are around my parts - hit me up for that beer!

Seriously how has this only got 50k views!! The production quality is miles above anything anything the big channels with millions of subscribers have ever made, totally on par with Netflix!!! ❤
Thanks a lot… appreciated. We know that we cater for a tiny niche and an even tinier audience within the niche. 57K in the first month is better than we anticipated a subject this specific - we are O.K. but we would love to get the attention from the bigger channels for sure. Spread the word ;-)
This was an hour of pure pleasure with new and informative knowledge I certainly did not know about. Beautifully produced with a wonderful glimpse of love, something we should share more between us across cultures and nationalities. Thanks, I'm just sitting back and drooling over the great result - just had to pull out my dad's old cameras and test the lenses lol
Thank you for making this video. I am in awe of the rehousing of your lenses. Not only is the engineering a magnificent example of precision, the lens building (rehousing) a work of art. Wow.

This has become my favorite channel. Even helped me find the “perfect” track for a short film recently as our tastes in audio are apparently very similar.
Thanks for this guys, I sincerely appreciate it with my whole heart. 1 hour goes very fast with such quality and mesmerizing content! You inspire and educate us more than you can imagine. Because of the FD video I got interested in vintage lenses and afterwards shooting film, I even found an FD 55mm f/1.2 SSC (non aspherical) and the nFD 50mm f/1.4 for a surprisingly low price. Nowadays I shoot 99% of my photos on film and it seems that it will be my whole life hobby. Because of you I discovered Blade Runner, which I can safely say is my favorite movie (btw I was thinking "it looks like Blade Runner" and you said it just a second afterwards, I smiled a lot). Because of the anamorphic video I got obsessed with anamorphic lenses, hopefully some day I'll get mine too, maybe the Saturn ones. I learned a lot from the ultra fast lenses video and understood many concepts, and of course got obsessed with fast lenses. And now I want to work rehousing lenses! Please never stop making content, I cannot express enough appreciation for the work you are doing. Again, thank you
That is very kind of you to say... and it is very motivating. Thank you! It is great to hear that we where able to inspire your hobby, passion, and taste. Makes us proud little creators. Great video and good sense of humour. I purchased a set of GL Optics Leica R primes 6 years ago. There was a back focus issue with the 28mm, 35mm and 50mm on delivery. GL Optics replaced all 3 lenses for free without question. I ended up buying their Canon 70-200mm, Angenieux 45-90mm and Tokina 100mm macro. I’m still using everything 6 years later. Definitely recommended for premium rehousing.
Thanks... well, you can already see how they look, the images haven't changed since our FD episode. I do get the "sex appeal", but in the end it's just the housing.

When I grow up (I'm 72 and retired this year ;-), I want to be your PA or just fetch coffee for you and your crew. Just being around creative geniuses like yourself would be wonderful.
Let me know if I can help you in any way, and thank you again, and again, and again. I think I told you about how I fell in love with IMAX back in the 90's. Your work is so inspiring--maybe I'll get back to IMAX someday...
I am a good example for the "it's never to late" approach, having startet just 10 years ago at about 40 (which is stone old by comparison)... you can do it!!!Also, I don't belivee in the concept of talent... passion, dedication, know how... yes, but there is no magical gift that bars you from doing the same. Do what you love to do... and you can't really go wrong
Thank s a lot for your offer, as I don't assume you are in Hamburg, I don't know how we could make this happen?

I can’t describe how I feel about watching this. Totally amazing.
Thats nice to hear… thank you. And thanks for watching and being around!
Bravo for your time and clarity
Cheers man… appreciated. Always trying to create something worth your time!
I really like the image of you smiling.... thats all we can ever hope for.
Glad you enjoy man... vintage freak myself
That was an absorbing episode and an astounding journey!
As a mechanical design engineer and former machinist/model-maker, I marvel at the capabilities and craftsmanship on display at GL Optics --Simply Top Notch!
What a privilege it would be to own a set of custom re-housed lenses and to work with GL Optics. Thank You for another amazing educational video👌
Thanks a lot… absolutely. Where know how and entrepreneurship can take an idea. Totally our pleasure and thanks for watching!
I just have to say that you produce some of the best videos on RUclips. Your videos are thoughtful, well tempered, and smart. Your small travel video portion was easy to watch and quite informative. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks for the motivator and your kindness Imerges… very much appreciated! Spread the word! 😁 Always trying… next episode is in the works.
I am excited to see what you produce next. Your commitment, even to the shortest shot or clip is rare. @@MediaDivision
Always as good as I can manage, and not one bit less 😉 Thanks man@@imerges
thank you for showing a rare behind the scenes of lens servicing and rehousing. I watched the whole episode and learnt a lot. As a young boy I watched a lot of national geographic and discovery channel. now as an adult that service vintage lenses i can watch documentaries of vintage lenses, great times!
Our pleasure Dwayne.... glad you fount it educational and edutaining. Indeed, we came a long way
The channel which you like the video before watching it because you know it is a masterpiece.
Much appreciated Rodrigo... I wish RUclips would see it the same.
Two pieces of machinery that I am always intrigued by: fishing reels and lenses. This is art.
I agree… optics are magic!!
Everything on this channel is a work of art of the highest depth and quality.
Always trying to improve and to create something worth your tie… thanks for watching!!
This was a beautiful documentary! Thank you for making these incredible episodes, this is truly the pinnacle of RUclips 🙌🏻
Glad you enjoy it! It is our pleasure..... don't you wish that youTube was aware of that 😉
Just incredible work from you and GL Optics!
Thanks... happy you all enjoy
What this channel brings to the film making community is bananas. Eventually, this channel will have millions of subscribers, and a billion views.
Thanks a lot... with the growth right now, that is not going to happen... we are to few. Still, 80% of our viewers are unsubscribed... obviously we are not good enough ;-)
Remarkable craftsmanship in both the lens rehousing by G.L Optics and your documentation here, Media Division. I have come to expect nothing less!
Thanks… we always try to improve... wouldn't dare to wast your valuable time 😁
Always loved that GL optics was trying to give good quality at good prices and great to see them getting good recognition
Well deserved...
Ey einfach danke ♥️

Excellent and critical information and fantastic production values. Thank you.
Absolutely stunning film once again! Your attention to detail in these videos is truly unique! 💜
Morty my dear… glad to see you around. Hope you are OK and thanks for the flowers. Always like a compliment from a master. Looking forward to our colab my man… MAKE IT HAPPEN!
As a engineer and an aspiring photographer, that was a treat. Loved the story/background, detail given with regards to the rehousing work, the improvements possible during the work, and the peek behind the production as well. A really great piece. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Andre… appreciate your kindness. Always trying to put something out that is worth your time
You guys always do such amazing work!
What an incredible professional production. Always amazed by how Deep you go into the technical details without loosing focus. Love jt
Thanks a lot… that is always a bit of a problem… indeed the script was twice a s long, and I realised "on the fly" that I was loosing that focus, so I tightened it a lot… but, I lost a lot of good information, too. Glad you thing I got a decent balance.
loved how entertaining and comprehensive this was!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your Kindness and for hanging around Brandon!
This is a dream…such high quality and craftsmanship. Thanks for everyone involved in making this film.
Thanks a lot man… ab thank you so much for making content like this possible. Your support is appreciated. The Division salutes you!
9 days. I had to wait 9 days so I can plan a "movie night" to watch this full feature undisturbed. This was a the best documentary film I watched this year. Thanks.
Thanks a lot man… you must have a tight schedule ;-) Very happy it was worth the wait for you.
The best film making content on RUclips. Period
Thanks again man... appreciated!
Hey Nikolas,
I have been watching through all your videos the past few weeks and felt I was obliged to write this.
I am sure you already know how great your content is, as I have read your comments to other people who are essentially saying the same thing, but I sensed a negative feeling in your comments, which is why I feel obligated to say this:
If you are ever sitting there late at night wondering if the work you put in is worth it, or if the people watching your content enjoy it, or if any of this is contributing to people in a meaningful way, I can let you know with absolute confidence that it all is.
(Please like this comment to let this man know you feel the same way about him)
Hey Funky,
thanks a lot for taking the time to write this comment… I much appreciated the kindness and the motivation.
"...but, this is not a travel vlog." well you do have a knack for it, maybe a second travel channel on the way?
Seriously though, fantastic episode. You keep raising the bar. I didn't even realize it's an hour long vid until I was half-way through. Thank you for showing us GL Optics and the hard work you put in.
HA …… thanks man… with someone that is not traveling a lot, it would be very boring ;-) just not my thing.

Thanks a lot man... glad you enjoy!
Ooooh new Media Division video. I'm in. The Snatch reference. So good.
Enjoy.... and thank you so much for your support man!!!!
Spread the word ;-)
dude i'm barely a minute in and there's a huge grin on my face!
Dude… this is how I like you to look! Enjoy!!!!
Very happy this episode was able to edutain you. Thank you for your kindness and for being around
Thank you for making this video. I am in awe of the rehousing of your lenses. Not only is the engineering a magnificent example of precision, the lens building (rehousing) a work of art. Wow.
My plerasure man… indeed, they are really something beautiful to own and use
The dedication of this feature and its craft is mesmerising! One more thing; where do I get this chair you're sitting on at the end?
Thanks a lot… I don't know, it is an old barber chair that the Marmalade uses for hair and make up jobs
@@MediaDivision Guess I have to pay them a visit as I sure need a shave and a haircut.

My favourite channel and I’m a photographer. The intro just doesn’t hit right any more Niklas! The previous one just lifted me of the ground and connected with my soul.

Long form for the win ☺.... glad you enjoy.
Fantastic video, thank you very much.
What was the wide-angle adapter to convert the 55mm into a 35mm? Where does it come from?
Thanks a lot… I know, but I am not sure if I can talk about that in this forum… so, I rather not. Sorry.
Will try to go on... with everything in turmoil, who knows where the moon river will take us .... I am curious for whats waitin' 'round the bend ;-)
Excellent work my friend... thanks for telling the GL story in a way that makes us all proud. Also, good job on those chicken feet! 😝
Jonathan my friend... glad this one found it's way to you already. Glad you like it... your footage is so good, I was blessed to have it for this. People seem to enjoy the episode, I hope it has some good impact for all you guys. Talk to you soon.

What an awesome episode! This was so interesting! You got that like before I even started watching and it's a pity I can't like it twice!
You can watch it twice however!
Thanks a lot Dante.... don't you wish RUclips would read comments like yours??
Great video and good sense of humour. I purchased a set of GL Optics Leica R primes 6 years ago. There was a back focus issue with the 28mm, 35mm and 50mm on delivery. GL Optics replaced all 3 lenses for free without question. I ended up buying their Canon 70-200mm, Angenieux 45-90mm and Tokina 100mm macro. I’m still using everything 6 years later. Definitely recommended for premium rehousing.
Thanks… just like I would expect from them and wondering how that possible have gone through QC?!
G.L. made an excellent choice to trust you with their advertising budget/ lens set. That was outstanding.
Thanks a lot man.... I think it was kind of clever, too 😉
such an amazing episode, cant wait to see the lenses used in the future, now i have to clean up the dribble off my laptop...
Thanks... well, you can already see how they look, the images haven't changed since our FD episode. I do get the "sex appeal", but in the end it's just the housing.
Just WOW🤯
Great episode as always btw. Thank You!
Thank you Alessandro.... so happy you enjoy what you made possible with your support. The Division salutes you!
