Pollywog prodigy could’ve (should’ve) been a green creature. Evolve is a great green mechanic for green creatures and it would have been the Cedh support that green is looking for. You guys hit the nail on its head. Blue has more then enough of these kind of cards!! Great to hear and see you guys talk about every set in magic! Keep it up
Enchantment stax can't exist because dockside beats those into the dirt, so the meta went to creature stax. Then they printed bowmasters, which killed creature stax and dork decks. All we have left is grixis+ decks because the RC won't do anything about the aforementioned cards.
Isn’t cedh getting larger a better argument for it getting its own format than warping the RC’s decisions to take on a competitive focus? I know it was a throwaway wrap up convo for a few minutes at the end of the discussion, but I’d love to hear more about that on the pod as an episode topic.
No because it would do literal nothing to solve the problem. People would still play commander and they'd still play at the highest level and we'd still have this problem
"Fills mouth with pretzel, leans forward, answers question." Cmon guys, it's like you are actively making your content "ironically" annoying. It's just cringe.
I totally get the hate for Lilysplash Mentor being “Activate only as a sorcery” but also god that card would be infinitely obnoxious in limited if it could be activated any time.
the Pollywog and Floodcaller are two cards that are heavily leading my debate between playing Korvold vs going back to Reyhan/Kraum or Yidris 😅 i've been really successful with Korvold lately, but dang does it feel kinda choking not being able to get the fancy new blue toys. #PollywogShouldveBeenGreen
Floodcaller can also do similar loops to MoM Rona; use banishing knack or the other one on the floodcaller or any other creature you can untap with floodcaller, and now you have a wanna be hullbreaker horror that will loop 2 rocks to net infinite mana and then loop any non creature card that wins the game at instant speed. Not the best combo of the format, but it's a decent option if you want to play the floodcaller and Knack and the other one can be used as removal outside the combo.
I'm not sure why they keep printing kinda decent black cards with reanimation effects that are almost playable but then they tack a finality counter onto them. Sigh. Also yay blue gets MORE card draw. Just what they were lacking. Weakest color in CEDH for-sure.
Hey friends. Didn’t read all of the comments, but that Osteomancer Adept would probably work okay in Gyruda. Just saying. That’s the first “worst” deck I thought of…double activations on Gyruda copies? Probably something better than that. Just my two cents
Pollywog and floodcaller shouldn't have been mono colour cards. Both should have been simic. The way the format is right now they wouldn't be playable in blue farm and Rogsi and still be within the colour identity of blue I am noticing wizards prints most of the strong cards in mono colour and annoys the hell out of me
re: Pollywog -- the reason I feel the card isn't that egregious is because it's a small creature that doesn't protect itself. it dies to basically every removal spell in the format ... but everyone wants to run turbo and only play stack interaction. just start incorporating more removal! Nadu is already a problem, and I can guarantee there are plenty of critters you'll appreciate having removal for. (also, the card should have started at 0/2; I think it'd make the card quite a bit more fair and nowhere near as concerning)
The " dies to doom blade" argument, never gets old... However I do agree that cEDH is way too lean on creature removal. The base counter packages are like 90% non creature counters. People openly cringe when you throw an Assassin Trophy and Abrupt Decay in the same deck.
I don’t think polywog will be as big of a problem as you guys are thinking. It might. But remember, this is a clone meta. This will undoubtedly get cloned and maybe into decks that can evolve it easier. It could just be too much of a liability to put on the table. You’re also on a play pattern of tapping out T1-T3, which is risky. This might be a trap as much for you as it is for anyone trying to win during T2/3.
Into the flood maw is only opponent's stuff.... So worse than chain if you want to storm with artifacts or want to bounce your dockside. I'm slotting this card in for cyclonic rift's in some of my faster decks.
this is where my mind went -- thing is Tayam can already return critters from the graveyard so it might not be needed ... but I've never played the deck so I have no idea if this kind of effect is needed. at worst it gives any critter an additional counter to remove, so... maybe?
@@heirophantpm as a Tayam player you have to run too many things to make Osteomancer worth it. The last thing you want to do is mass exile your ability to interact at instant speed. The other side of it is, Six is just better. Tayams ability to win comes from It’s ability to win on top of another win attempt at instant speed.
As a Krarkashima pilot, I don't want walkers anywhere near the deck. You need low mana cost, "free" cost spells. Having a 4 mana walker that doesn't trigger Krark/Magus/ Tavern Scoundrel/ Storm Kiln etc, isn't really what I want at all. The creature package is all about casting triggers, doubling triggers and getting treasures from winning flips. Plus you just run Mind's Desire to go off on a storm count and the chances of making copies. Finally, when you storm, you are getting a copy of the spell but not another spell being cast, so there goes 95% of your triggers from going off when you storm. Still works on Mage Craft, but not Krark. If you want to win with storm, then you just run Grapeshot with at the minimum 3 Krark triggers on the board, but 4 or 5 is premium, so you're high in the stat of a bounce and copy at least.

100% agreed. Should have been green or at the very least simic. Let green be relevant in cedh!
evolve is a simic mechanic
To be fair it doesn’t matter either way for simic 💀
Mockingbird pretty good with Ranger Captain of Eos

Thank you callahan for providing a new but instantly timeless gif toward the end of the floodcaller segment. "I DONT WANT TO PLAY ROG" 😂

I had a game already agaibst blue farm that went turn 1 fish, turn 2 pollywog, turn 3 kraum. They drew 14 cards in one turn cycle
I mean that sounds like feeding with extra steps

47:00 if we cast orcish bowmaster when they play tempt with bunnies the orc goes from killing Boromir to becoming Elmer Fudd. Confirmed.
I totally get the hate for Lilysplash Mentor being “Activate only as a sorcery” but also god that card would be infinitely obnoxious in limited if it could be activated any time.
Bloodroot is pretty niche but also stops Magda, and Tivit time sieve stuff. I like it in Tayam maybe? Not sure where else it’ll find a home
Everyone love a Twenty-Toed Toad. Great episode thanks for another one!!
Mockingbird can be found with rangercaptain
Pollywog Prodigy should have been green . It would have given green decks a much needed draw engine

Twenty Toed Toad - Toads have no hands... they have 4 feet. So each appendage only needs 5 toes.
Cal’s reaction to the pollywag is so accurate it’s not even funny 😂
That was depressing.
Anywho, the part of me that pilots Magda is happy with this set, so at least there's that.
Would appreciate an episode about the edh rules committee / ban list
That squirrel scares me as a Magda pilot
Fr being able to get back an arifact that was blown up or countered just to tutor it back again lets magda become more grindy

Great video! Not sure how viable it is, but I’ve heard some people say that Three Tree City could go into Winota with all her humans.
Thanks cal for making me laugh at work and getting my boss to yell at me 38:50
Calamity of Cinders actually sounds good for Magda. Convoke those dwarves to cast that spell, baybee!
I'm not sure why they keep printing kinda decent black cards with reanimation effects that are almost playable but then they tack a finality counter onto them. Sigh. Also yay blue gets MORE card draw. Just what they were lacking. Weakest color in CEDH for-sure.
Don’t all toads have twenty toes? Four legs, five toes… barring those who have had traumatic toe loss to predator incidents of coarse.

49:18 into the flood maq is forever this cards name now.
Green floodcaller coulda been cool

So Dour Port because cloudstone and kitten needs a way to draw your deck with dockside
You guys hate valley floodcaller but no one plays final word phantasm
Because you’re extremely limited to when you can cast spells at instant speed with that card versus Floodcaller just being a static effect.
Lillysplash Mentor is what let me win a tournament with my Rog/Thras deck yesterday. Good card is good.
Double esper sentinel on t1 bc of mockingbird is so good.
Into the flood maw is only opponent's stuff.... So worse than chain if you want to storm with artifacts or want to bounce your dockside. I'm slotting this card in for cyclonic rift's in some of my faster decks.
40:00 stormsplitter is kind of gross with convoke spells or tokens tap for mana abilities.
Gives iso scepter decks a wincon too.
Would you say ral doesn't have a home in krark?
Would you ever play Highlander?
Dour Port-Mage is good with Animar. But I don't think it will make Animar comeback to cEDH top 10.
agate instigator offspring token will not see the original copy entering. offspring is an etb trigger.
You have to keep em separated
@@stormtrooperjeepjk the context is, kingpin obnix will only trigger once coz the offspring token will not see the original entering.
@@Tito_JeVON it was an offspring pun..... Not rules
No Azure Beastbinder?
came here to say, mockingbird is fetchable off ranger captain.
Wouldn’t osteomancer adept be good in tayam?

Ral, Crackling Wit is something Veyran, Voice of Duality thought up in a wet dream.
That card is a wincon.
"It's definitely from the east side of the country"
whos tired of drawing cards, you... and nadu is more of a red flag right now. its register nadu or rog/si imho
Ral might be okay in krarkashima
