    As a pilot and aerospace engineer I looked at these and said, "turbulence generator". We design these onto the surface of high speed air foils to smooth out the laminar air flow and reduce buffet over a flat surface. Improves lifting force of a wing.

    I'm an A&P mechanic and made one out of .040 aluminum sheet metal. It cost me less than a buck to make it. The diffuser actually works up to around 80mph.

      Chris Johnson Yes, with my luck, plastic tabs that were supposed to be pulled, pressed, slid, clicked or whatever are done wrong and then “snap”. Plus the left over parts are always a bucket of laughs!

    Last weekend I finally got to drive a GT3 at the track for the first time. It is a glorious machine and incredible drivers car. 🤤 You are a lucky bunch!! With both windows down the buffeting was substantial and for sure, especially without a helmet, would prevent me from driving regularly with the windows down. I’m going to tell the owner about these. Thx for review!

    Got an email from SunCoast today advertising that gizmo. I was hoping to get a review and amazingly found this video. It was really helpful to hear Mr. Auto Amateur going through the install and comments. It was great to hear it made a difference before buying it, as I often drive with the windows down in the 30/50 mph range. I will subscribe to see what other goodies he has up his sleeve! Thanks for taking the time to do this!

    I’m slowly catching up with your videos on your channel. Now a big fan of your channel, since I recently purchased a 2015 C4S. I also purchased those wind deflectors and done the same test. I did hear some buffeting at the same speeds as you, James. I recorded them on my phone, and will review them soon. I just installed them but did not test it out again. Too much traffic in my area. Will try tomorrow. Lol, I’m also skeptical. However I recall the last time I was at the Porsche dealership and saw some nice carbon fiber wind deflectors on a GT3RS. CF looks really nice! I’m learning from your experiences. Thank you for being a great guide, James!👍🏽

    Good vid! I have been looking at these for my 981S, hadn't taken the plunge based on the price, and the installation instructions (necessary to remove the door card), I wasn't sold. 1. FWIW installation on later models of 991 is much simpler and does not require door panel removal.
    2. Where these things really make a difference is at track days. Keep in mind that PCA HPDE require running with windows down.

    Helpful vid. These diffusers have been around for at least the past three or so years - tons of before/after opinions amid the write-ups on Rennlist 991 board. As someone else stated, these are really more effective for track days where drivers are required to drive with windows down and you cant have the top back or down. There are some competing brands out there- usually at a higher price point or “porsche-tax” type pricing. I think someone also started printing a version of these. For the weekend driver or garage queen cars prob not worth the cost as mentioned in most write-ups on RL or 6Speedonline boards. My own experience is that they do in fact work as advertised though. Good Luck!

    Me thinks there was a bit of filming trickery. ;) Same outside the car drive footage used twice. It's ok. You do what you gotta do in these times. ;) Great vid. I probably won't buy the product. Never had the buffeting issue in my 997.2. I drive with the windows down every chance I get.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  4 года назад +1

      Good spot! I edited the video in a hurry and I didn't realize I was using the same external camera footage. The interior camera footage is obviously different though and that's the camera that's giving you the sound. So the wind you're hearing the second time around the same road loop is the noise inside the cabin with the new wind deflectors installed, it just doesn't look that way because of the incorrect exterior footage that was spliced in. Less speed, more haste I think the expression is! :)

    Another great video 👍
    Surprisingly, this is not something that bothers me in the Boxster, although the roof is often down anyway. But wind buffeting in the Macan is really pronounced, which is really annoying when I want to give it some hammer in a tunnel with the PSE on! I’ll have to check out if AWE offer this product for the Macan.

    I just remembered. The mirrors on the 997s are on the window corners. They moved them to the doors on the 991s. That must be why I don't have the buffeting.

    Interestingly enough, I almost never drive with my windows open. Though I have the Bose speakers and always listen to podcasts or music, the sound is much better with the windows closed. So, I’ve never really noticed any buffeting. For any minimal benefit I’d get, it doesn’t seem worth it for the cost or time spent installing them. Also, I don’t happen to like the way they look. Just another opinion, James.

Not just for cars, but for anything really. 3rd party cases for phone and laptops, many fail. 3rd party apps for iPhones or Androids, less stable than native apps made by Apple or Google. On and on. Consumer technology is always failing and falling apart.
