    Thanks again for supplying the parts on your website. I found it easier to route the wire under the deck lid area on the right that connects the wires to the inside of the car ... there are already wires coming into the car and you can easily access it from behind the panel under the rear window ... from there just route the wires along the side of the panels and it comes all the way over the the radio with ease ... maybe that will save time later?

    I have to admit I almost audibly said, but thought to myself “Is that a knife!?” with genuine concern when you were trying to get the cables through up front. I remember doing this in my e46 M3 and it was a pain in the ass, too. Mounting the camera in the license plate lighting housing was a pain. Good job!

    Hi James,
    Will this same install method work on a manual 997.2 cab with 3.0 PCM? Will I have to tap into the reverse light? Thanks

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 года назад

      For manual transmissions yes, you have to tap the reverse light as well as inside the cabin potentially. The wire needs to run inside the back of the cabin too as opposed to how I ran the wire along and under into the frunk.

  • @aconfusedazn
    @aconfusedazn 2 года назад +1

    Thank you so much for the videos. I am running the same Joyeauto unit but cannot get the camera to activate on my GT4 (manual). Is there any coding involved? I also tapped the rear backup light to power the camera power. Thanks for the help!

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 года назад

      No programming is required but because you have a manual it is a little trickier. Are you sure you’re tapping the reverse bulb within the rear light unit? It’s easy to tap a brake light by mistake. Also if you have a power wire at the cabin end of your camera wiring, make sure it’s connected to the red 12V power wire from the JoyeAuto power harness under your dash. Finally, make sure dipswitch 8 is OFF for aftermarket camera.

    • @aconfusedazn
      @aconfusedazn 2 года назад

      @@AutoAmateur thanks for the reply. The backup light in the Cayman is in the rear bumper, so that is what I tapped. I used a multimeter to check the voltage and it seems to only one on when the car is reverse so it should we wired correctly. I may try to test it by running it directly to the battery.

    • @MarcGyverIt
      @MarcGyverIt Год назад

      @@aconfusedazn Did you ever get it to work? You tapped the blue/blk wire for the reverse lights, I'm sure. I was just trying to get this to work on a manual GT4 tonight and had no luck. But I found a JoyeAuto set of instructions for a manual car and it said to connect the orange wire to the red wire of the RCA cable. You know, the one that says, "no need connect". We're trying again tomorrow to see how it goes.

Great vid - probably your best yet but why didnt you go in via the back and slip the cable under the trim edge? @AutoAmateur  Месяц назад

      I've tried several times and I'm going to say not possible... UNLESS you're willing to glue the camera to your bumper instead of using a retaining nut. The only way to get to the nut on the other side of the bumper is by removing it. You can however drill a hole for the wire, insert the wire and run it up to inside the engine bay where the tail lights come out with a fish line, without removing the bumper. From there you can disassemble the fan assembly and run the wire inside the cabin through the grommet by the spoiler wing.... However, that still leaves the camera dangling by your license plate. You would have to glue or somehow adhere the camera over the hole where the wire goes into the bumper and mount the camera. Shit loads of super glue?
