Editor's Note: My edits were all made to keep the video on one, central topic by editing together relevant commentary from many parts of Hasan's streams to create a storyline that is still followable by the viewer. I also edited in commentary of my own in places, in addition to relevant external information that improves the viewing experience. A lot of edits were made for comedy purposes, or to enhance the comedic timing of certain beats, but never to misrepresent Hasan's point of view.

Because in the treaty of 1945, the Allies told them to dismantle their military, and in return, we would provide aid and support.
Korea and China really don't like Japan because of the war crimes and massacres they did, so to fulfill our portion of the treaty, we need to make sure we are able to defend them from both threats.

considering usa has military bases in all of countries south of china, and warships, usa could easily pressure with establishing a free democracy in these countries. so wouldn't have form of authoritarian governances like these: "Thai woman jailed for record 43 years for criticising monarchy,
19 January 2021, British Broadcasting Corporation
Thailand revived the controversial lèse-majesté law, which forbids any insult to the monarchy, late last year in an attempt to curb months of anti-government protests, with demonstrators demanding changes to the authoritarian monarchy. "
and no longer just pro-usa juntas, and corruption, but a real, corrupt-free democracies. even when you take the chance that those election results could be sometimes against usas interests, by becoming neutral countries.
just 2 weeks ago: "Protests in Thailand as rivals derail Pita’s PM bid
Thai parliament blocks Move Forward Party’s progressive leader from being renominated for prime minister, prompting protests.
his nomination for prime minister was defeated in a joint vote of the House and Senate last week, with conservative military-appointed senators mostly refusing their support."
now, some westerners might ask, what does "military-appointed" mean?
" 65 days have passed since Move Forward’s stunning triumph over military-backed parties in a May election, in what was widely considered a clear public rejection of nine years of government controlled by generals."
uh-huh. and this could've been a golden opportunity for usa to prevent things like these, military takeovers, make a big public thing, pressure thailand for democracy. to protect democracy and freedom. but these military dudes are pro-usa.

We distanced ourselves after 1979 invasion but shake hands again after the fall of USSR. Both China and Vietnam have claims island on the china sea. The area was kind of neutral till Xi Jinping became president. He started building islands, military bases, cities on those claims. His foreign affair is very aggressive compared to previous presidents. US didn't pay attention to Pacific front (they was still in middle east: iraq, afganistan, taliban...) till Xi Jinping era. With his aggression toward neighbors, the surrounding countries has to ask the other big guy for help (US, obviously) .

Also, the nine-dash line is obviously infringing on the waters of many countries, but the PRC did not make that claim. They inherited it from the ROC. What are you expecting them to do? Just carve it up and hand it to their neighbors? Because if they do that the US is just gonna storm in and encircle China even further BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY DOING THAT.
Vietnam was obviously 100% in the right in 1979. No question. But it wasn't China who committed genocide against your people. It was the Americans who did that. You'd think that you'd be sympathetic for China defending itself from the same country that tried to destroy yours.
I just don't see how anyone can make the claim that there would be any kind of comparable tension in the region without the US. I mean, we're talking about WWIII here, over some damn fishing boats, apparently. Why?

As much as they would have the largest military, they wouldn't be able to unilaterally control absolutely everything through pure military strength. People act like war is like a game where the biggest military can just control everything through brute strength. They can't. The US managed it through very specific set of circumstances but as has already been clear they cannot do so for much longer.
China wouldn't be able to just declare war on everyone and expect to win without doing massive damage to themselves. Far outweighing the potential gains. They would dominate trade and the region but not as easily as you're making out. It would be as much through trade and sanctions as through direct military control.

also, china wouldn't "declare war on everyone" like American war-hawks would like us to believe, and even if they did, it's not WW2 and we (the US) don't have an unlimited supply of 18yr olds to shovel into a grinder, like we did before. plus, if trade were to grind to a sudden halt (due to war) america would grind to a halt w/n weeks due to the fact that almost all of our manufacturing has been outsourced to *CHINA* ... us supply lines would be devastated lol

This is my take. Naturally, before industrialization, regions with the largest population produce the most economic output, thus, having the most influence. Think India and China accounting for 2/3rds of total economic output prior to western countries industrializing. Western countries industrialized first, they had a head start and since the equilibrium naturally places them below regions with the most populated regions, the west has to keep the rest of the world contained. This is why the US behaves the way it does with bases all over the world under the cover of maintaining peace and stability. China is giving global south countries another option other than the U.S. And that’s why China’s a threat but not evil or an enemy.

Hasan probably thinks there was no tension in this area before Pearl Harbor either, just a militant superpower dominating all their neighbors quick and easy as it should be.
It would be like saying you are "anti-rape" because you think women getting raped should just give consent so it isn't rape anymore. Everyone in China, who aren’t brainwashed, have an understanding of how horrible the government can be. A government that is willing to throw its people under the bus just to hold on to power and keep their authoritarian and draconian ways. A China hegemony means spreading that kind of ideal, the ideal of using absolute power to absolutely dominate its people, the ideal of an authoritarian capitalist society which would only lift a finger to support the so called “antitrust” ideals because they want to consolidate more power. I thought you don't like the US and China as I do and you can't use whataboutism as your main argument I am against the US but from my perspective China has done wayyy more bad stuff like with the Uyghurs and just giving loans to poor African and asian nations just to have a sphere of influence in those countries. And don't fucking call the Philippines Japan and other US allies client states they are sovereign nations that became US allies just to be safe from China. Again both the US and China are bad but you can't support China just because your ideology is criticly against intervention. Like man I'm just sad that some intellectuals in the US go out on stream to thousands of streamers just to say they support China and other guys seeing this I really hope you don't just blindly support China just because he said smith.

I love how Hassan is incapable of understanding why Japan would care about Taiwan. It's about tsmc. It's also about China's. Very aggressive naval posturing. Japan has enjoyed the ability to basically not have to have a military because the US provides its defense. Also, if you pull the Japanese public, the people near the military bases hate having to deal with them, but the rest of Japan loves the military bases.
The chauvinistic attitude about the people who are actually there as having no agency is actually pretty racist.
None of this implies anything the US is doing is inherently good or bad. It is just the nature that the US interests align with other interests of the other nations in the region.

Convenient excuse isn't it. How did wars stop before we had nukes? If nukes are so good at stopping casualties why haven't we used them since then to stop wars of attrition? It was primarily a technique to shock the world and ensure the US took over Japan before the Soviets who were advancing. It's a convenient coincidence that arial bombardment and nuclear weapons have not been listed as war crimes. The main reason of course being that "we" did them the best so if we attempted to collar our enemies with such labels we'd be liable too.
The casualties were way down the list and we kind of need to be honest about that. We did what we wanted to for wider strategic reasons. We certainly would never have accepted this logic if it came from our enemies. Imagine if Japan argued that they were trying to frighten the Chinese into submission with the Rape of Nanjing? Is it only "reasonable" if it works? What sick things could one justify in hindsight if it "works".
