    Editor's Note: My edits were all made to keep the video on one, central topic by editing together relevant commentary from many parts of Hasan's streams to create a storyline that is still followable by the viewer. I also edited in commentary of my own in places, in addition to relevant external information that improves the viewing experience. A lot of edits were made for comedy purposes, or to enhance the comedic timing of certain beats, but never to misrepresent Hasan's point of view.
    If you like my edits, leave a Comment, Like, and Subscribe. It helps a lot, thank you :)

      Wouldn't that be the same definition for any prison?

    • @SamuIise
      @SamuIise Год назад +6

      I mean it has this definition from searching it:
      "a place in which large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes to provide forced labour or to await mass execution. The term is most strongly associated with the several hundred camps established by the Nazis in Germany and occupied Europe 1933-45, among the most infamous being Dachau, Belsen, and Auschwitz."
      so it's maybe about inadequate facilities, and lack of space too (which is, I think?, still what's happening at the Southern border, but then extra context to differentiate from prisons).

      @PinkSakuraBunnie Год назад +5

      @@Precipiceofwind yeah but wasn't it just a case of elites and poors there too, only this time he happened to be in the former group instead of the latter, meaning he really didn't care if the system was shitty to ppl, as long as he wasn't one of those ppl?
      Bc the video talks about the horrific famine NK went through and how James and the other Americans didn't have to ever give up their rations like the lower class ppl and they basically had everything handed to them and didn't really have to work it seems, while lower class ppl worked hard and still starved.
      So it wasn't so much the US and our shitty capitalist system he was trying to escape, just his specific shitty lot in it. If NK had treated him like any other lower class citizen (bc by all metrics he should have been if he hadn't come over as a defecting US soldier), I have a feeling he wouldn't have been any happier there than he was here and would have been singing a different tune about his decision to defect.
      He talked like he had no regrets about defecting bc he could never have sent his kids to college in the US as if he could do it in NK bc it was such a land of opportunity even though he had to be aware of how awful many NK ppl were living, and how he only wasn't one of them bc the government held him in high regard for the propaganda his defection was good for.
      Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible for what he went through as a kid here in the US, but it clearly didn't make him care about other poor ppl and fighting systems that cause that kind of poverty so others don't go through what he went through. His regard for NK was purely selfish.

    Marijuana is not legal in the DPRK. Hemp is cultivated and widely used for industrial and medicinal purposes, and ground hemp (not the kind that gets you high) is sometimes sold as poor mans tobacco. Possession and transportation of psychoactive marijuana is still illegal. This info comes from tour companies that work with the DPRK for… tours of the DPRK. Interestingly, alcohol is hardly regulated at all. There’s no legal age requirement, it’s just extremely culturally frowned upon for students to partake, even in university.

    I’m actually super disappointed the video didn’t mention she wasn’t the only one and said that it was “not clear” if she had been kidnapped or not. And Hasan’s comment being like “hey it was the ‘70s basically every marriage was like that” like minimizing a kidnapping and forced marriage like wtf???

    Hasan is overreaching with his "knowledge" about how South Korea was like. With two grandparents defecting from North Korea and the other two as South Koreans - descrbing SK the way he did is unfair, especially at that era. Just trying to overstep his knowledge base, although his takes are generally valid
    Farming doesn't automatically make a country awful, take Costa Rica for example, and although it wasn't great, it's not how he describes it.
