    Advantage to Disneyland's Splash Mountain: Strategically sitting at the back of the log as a single rider and photobombing the unsuspecting family sitting in front of you

    I have to agree that Walt Disney Worlds is slightly better than Disneylands. I honestly forgot that there was a restraint on that ride, because I was just so excited to be there. The extra scenes were really cool but I did notice that the drop in the dark wasn't as thrilling as Disneyland's and that's where you get really wet at Disneyland. I really enjoy both though and I wouldn't skip this if your going to Disneyworld, there are some rides to skip in Florida's Disney Parks because they are to similar to Disneyland but this isn't one of them.
    The next one you should do is one of these 3...
    Big Thunder Railroad
    Haunted Mansion
    Peter Pan
    Looking forward to your next V.S.

      Sean Estes I definitely agree! They're both amazing rides in different ways, but when all is said and done, I think Disney World has just a biiit more to offer.
      Thank you, though, and thanks for the suggestions!

    Disneyland's Splash Mountain has a more jazzier music selection, while wdw's is more country in southern.

      Yes because in California Disneyland the ride is next to New Orleans Square and WDW's is located in Frontierland which is themed after the western side of American Old South.

    Personally, I favor Disneyland's Splash Mountain because, it's the original, it's the version I grew up with, and it contains more animatronics than its Floridian counterpart. However, I do admit that I find the seating, theming in the show scenes, and final drop at Magic Kingdom superior to Disneyland's version.

    • @ised-5239

      Disneylander Magic Kingdom has a banjo because the ride is owned by Frontierland. Tokyo Disneyland also with the banjos where Critter Country is a sub set of Westernland and that Critter Country is themed to wildlife of the states of Texas and the New Mexico. The area music loops of TDL's Critter Country also feature banjos and other country instruments like some of Song of the South OSTs (e.g. Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, Laughing Place and What Uncle Remus Said) and also popular songs like Old Macdonald and I've Been Working on the Railroad.

    The only problem I have with WDW's Splash Mountain is where it is. It being in Frontierland doesn't really match the theme of the Mountain, which is trying to imitate the red soil in the South, not the Frontier.

    • @luuchoo93
      @luuchoo93 5 лет назад +1

      I think it fits much much better in Magic Kingdom, having the same colors of Frontierland and Big Thunder. It blends
      In Disneyland its right next to the Haunted Mansion, too close, no space in between for transition... Disneyland doesnt have room, and therefore attractions are thrown together one next to the other

    i feel like disneyland's soundtrack is superior. it has that flittery chime sound and adds so much of that classic disneyland charm to it. It is noticeably slower and has a different pitch than DW. I believe that the banjo is too fast-paced, and it sounds too forced. the slower pace of disneyland's adds anticipation, and there is a slight feeling that something is about to happen (which there definitely is). I feel like disneyland's soundtrack puts you into a false sense of security while DW's hypes you up the entire time, so you are expecting it.

    To me, Disneyland’s Splash Mountain feels like an idea that hadn’t yet reached its full potential. I imagine when the MK’s was being constructed, there was the thought of “how can we improve upon the original?” MK’s animatronics were made from scratch, it’s a lot more colorful, the pacing is much better and the theming seems to be better executed all around. Not to mention the more comfortable logs. This is of course coming from someone who grew up with the MK version. The one time I rode DL’s, it didn’t give me the same warm vibe, although I know some people prefer the darker, Fantasyland-vibe of it. It does feel more closely tied to Song of the South in certain aspects, such as the orchestral music, the design of the mountain itself, and some of the dialogue, and of course some people love that America Sings exists in some form through the reused animatronics, but I don’t think these things make it a better ride.
    I don’t know exactly how to explain it, but MK’s Splash just seems to have this “star quality” that DL’s doesn’t. MK’s Splash Mountain is frequently considered one of the best rides at the WDW resort, while Disneyland’s doesn’t seem to get that level of acclaim. Whenever the two are compared, MK’s is almost always considered superior, which is pretty rare when comparing DL and WDW attractions. This is an instance where I have to agree with the popular opinion, bias aside.

    Having been to both parks numerous times, we appreciate the MK version because the logs move slower and more fluidly through the ride. DL moves WAY TOO FAST and you get slammed around and you can’t appreciate all the scenery. It feels like they are increasing the speed of the water just to get you through the ride faster, which of course they are. DLand was our home park for many years (Washingtonians as well) and now we are often blessed to visit both parks during the year!

    I like Disney World's slightly better because it tells a more coherent story and it has overall better effects. I also prefer the more western-influenced style of music they use. One thing I prefer about Disneyland's version is the "Burrow's Lament" which adds a sense of dread as you go up the mountain and are about to be thrown in the Briar Patch. I think Disneyland's version feels much more directly tied to Song of the South in both the Georgia like atmosphere, the music choices and even some of the dialogue. The waiting area at Disneyland's Splash Mountain also has several of Uncle Remus's quotes posted.
    I suspect the reason the storyline at Disneyland is less coherent is because, at the time it was built, Disney probably did not intend to withdraw Song of the South from distribution. So my guess is that in 1988-1989 - only a couple of years after Song of the South's 40th anniversary re-release in 1986 - they probably assumed that most riders would already be familiar with Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear and Brer Fox. So rather than tell a complete story, they just have bunch of random scenes from the animated portions of Song of the South and expect the general audience to know the context. With the Magic Kingdom version, there is more of a focus on telling a complete story. The Magic Kingdom version of the ride stands perfectly on its own, regardless as to whether or not one has seen Song of the South.

    WDW definitely wins with this ride. So many people always say DL is better by default due to it being the original. But using that argument is like saying a car from the 1800s is better than one from 2018 because it's the original lol. Each park has advantages and disadvantages over the others. I don't think they were ever meant to be better than the others. They are each their own experience.

At night times when few other people want to ride this ride this becomes and almost immediate re-ride line. In Magic Kingdom Even if there is no line they make you get off the log and walk all the way around to the line which can take several minutes to walk through even when empty.

    I will say that I still think Disney needs to merge Critter Country with Frontierland, and just make it one big land. Aside from the Winnie the Pooh ride, all Critter Country has is Splash Mountain (and I guess technically Davey Crockett's Explorer Canoes-- which, tbh, everyone considers a part of Frontierland). That's 2, maybe 3 rides, 2 shops, and 2 restaurants. Frontierland has Big Thunder Mountain, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Tom Sawyer's Island, the Frontierland Shootin Exposition, 4 restaurants, and 2 shops. Why not just combine them? Critter Country has had a western theme since it was Bear Country! It makes sense!

      Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies, but we'll have to see. It fits in with New Orleans Square, so maybe they will extend the land to fit it? That would kind make Critter Country useless as well. Nobody goes over there JUST for Winnie the Pooh, you know? But what about Disney World? Splash Mountain there is smack dab in the middle of Frontierland, that doesn't work. In the end, we just have to sit back and let Disney work their magic.

The Tokyo Splash Mountain has a really cool exterior front area (where people can stand and interact with people on the ride) - I would say Tokyo has the best exterior. Tokyo Disneyland's Critter Country is the park's margarita earth due to the land is themed after Texas and New Mexico which are US states that ever hold margarita trails and places to find unique margaritas. The area music loops of Tokyo's Critter Country and its dining place Grandma Sara's Kitchen also use country/western style featuring banjos and harmonicas as well as Splash Mountain's in-ride soundtrack. The land area's music loop with banjos are also flowing in the restroom area.

      Both Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland's Splash Mountain have rather western characteristic also where the terrains colors are like western canyons instead of reddish Georgia looking coloring as in California Disneyland and the state of Arizona becomes the sub theme of the ride where the capital of Phoenix had a history of filming Song of the South plantation scenes, then the music is also with country-western style featuring banjos, fiddles, and harmonicas but in Tokyo some soundtracks are sung in Japanese.

    There is one more point I want to give to Magic Kingdom: The design of Brer' Rabbit. You may have noticed that the animatronics for Brer' Rabbit are different in both versions. I personally like Magic Kingdom's Brer' Rabbit design better mainly because Disneyland's Brer Rabbit seems a bit too...Chubby compared to his actual cartoon design and his movement looks much more limited compared to the other. Being a native southern Californian and having been to DL hundreds of times now, it's probably blasphemous to say, but I much prefer DW's version of Splash.
    Better music, much better layout, much better set design including lighting, better animatronics, smoother lift hills and an extra drop, too!
    Speaking of smoother lift hills, that is another big plus at MK's Splash. At DL, it's just a conveyor belt that is noisy and rather bumpy and violent. While at the MK, the hills are more like waterfalls with water cascading down and are quiet and smooth.
    I also like the fact that at the MK, you can get splashed in the Briar Patch by logs going down the final Chickapin Hill drop. Gives it an extra thrill! I miss when they used to blast "splashes" onto the bridge in front of the mountain at DW. Maybe it created a bottleneck from people trying to cool off?

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  6 лет назад +1

      Darth Brett very good insight, I totally agree! I had entirely forgotten about the lift hill, they're definitely more immersive in DW.
      And I actually wasn't aware that you could be splashed from off of the ride at a time, but that'd have been fun! More like a classic log flume.

    America Sings opened in 1974. The AAs are about 44 years old. Something to nore is the WDW logs move at a slower pace than Disneyland. Could be in part by the fact the flume has to be wider for double wide logs.

    • @Disneylander

      Enrique Cortez definitely an interesting point, the WDW logs seem to creep way to slow at points, while the Disneyland logs sometimes hurtle past scenes!

  • @chicagocarless

    Baxter's story is only half of the backstory though. Knott's Berry Farm's Timber Mountain Log Ride came first, complete with Audio-Animatronics and theming of its own, in 1969. Baxter's idea was really a way to compete with Knott's by giving Disneyland it's own log flume.
    I loved Disneyland's Splash Mountain for years, until I finally rode Magic Kingdom's version. I agree with most of your take, especially about theming/storytelling. When you first enter the mountain in Disneyland, all of the places that you think are too dark or should have AAs and storytelling going on--all those places are well illuminated, well themed, and have AAs and storytelling in Magic Kingdom. It really makes a difference. Don't forget the lift hills, either. At Disneyland they are dry. At Magic Kingdom, they are waterfalls, just like the lift-hill waterfall at the end of Disneyland's Pirates.
    I don't mind getting wet on either ride, but I do definitely prefer Magic Kingdom's logs, though. Unless they seat you in the very back seat at Disneyland, if you're taller or larger, or just older with creakier knees, It's much harder to get into and sit comfortably in the logs at Disneyland as opposed to the logs at Magic Kingdom. Speaking as a husky, middle-aged Disney fan, it makes a difference, too. :-)

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  6 лет назад +1

      Michael Thaddeus Doyle yes, that's definitely important to note! The Knott's log flume was a big upper hand to Disneyland at the time it opened (and it's still a great ride!).
      But thank you! And thanks for the insight, it's pretty surprising to me how different the two rides are.

    • @chicagocarless
      @chicagocarless 6 лет назад +1

      Disneylander Thank you! Your videos are awesome. I don't want to make it seem like I don't like Disneyland's version anymore. I love both of them. I mean, the Magic Kingdom version doesn't have the Burrow's Lament song right before the final lift hill. For me, that kind of makes Disneyland's version. I always miss it in Orlando.

    I love Disneyland’s Splash Mountain music because like you said it is a cartoony music but it fits perfectly with the Critter Country theme but the cartoony music on the ride was the original music score for both the ride and Movie Song of the South! On the other hand the music for the Magic Kingdom was just a made up music that was just tuned in for a frontier vibe to me the music for Splash Mountain should go to Disneyland!😉

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  6 лет назад

      Ethan Foster Maybe I should have broken the music off into it's own catergory!

    • @ised-5239
      @ised-5239 6 лет назад

      Yes the California Disneyland's cartoony music obeys where the ride's idea comes from: Song of the South, then is blended with jazzy score where Critter Country is next to New Orleans Square. Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain is Arizona orientated where its capital of Phoenix had a history of Song of the South's filming then the ride's area including the queue and the Briar Patch shop are also themed to the state of Arizona. The banjo musics are also looping in the queue including bluegrass style of Old Macdonald and Skip to My Lou.

    • @DisneyParksMusic.
      @DisneyParksMusic. 6 лет назад

      ISE D- I am glad you could catch that the two music scores are different

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 6 лет назад

      ISE D- true. Big Thunder next door is based off a haunted mine in either Arizona or Utah or something. So Frontierland has a Southwestern theming despite Song of the South taking place in Georgia. It does seem weird seeing the mountain from New Orleans Square, but the jazz / orchestral soundtrack fits the theme, a lot different from the bluegrass banjo music at the Magic Kingdom. The story seems to work better in Disneyland though (the Briar Patch dialog especially). In WDW it’s hard to follow the plot of what’s happening.

    • @ised-5239
      @ised-5239 6 лет назад

      ecoRfan For the Splash Mountain area theming it should be made unique and the Georgia theming is reduced in order to cut the dark side of Song of the South since it is a movie about slavery; thus in California Disneyland the Splash Mountain side of Critter Country area is also themed partly to Louisiana bayous.

    I feel like the Disneyland splash mountain portrays the story in a bad way. B’rer Fox only appears in the trap scene and then totally disappears until he catches B’rer Rabbit. It must be hard to understand that B’rer Fox and B’rer Bear are trying to catch B’rer Rabbit until the log arrives at his lair.

    Don't agree with the exterior point for the magic kingdom. I think the cartoon splash mountain look is great considering critter country is mostly a cartoony like land.
