    In fact, you can find pirates and adventure in both Disneyland California and the Magic Kingdom in Florida. Which version is better?

    I absolutely love the Magic Kingdom, probably more than Disneyland, so it really pains me to say this, but I completely agree. The only thing I like about the Magic Kingdom’s pirates is the exterior and the queue. I don’t like myself for saying this, but I just think they did a really bad job on the Magic Kingdom one. It just feels rushed and not executed very well. Disneyland wins hands down for Pirates of the Caribbean. And I’d just like to add that this is a great channel and I will definitely continue to watch your videos, especially the versus ones, I really enjoy them. I really loved the video too. Just keep up the good work!

      It's definitely a shame! I wish they either went through with the Western River Expedition or they spent more time on Pirates. The Magic Kingdom's Pirates certainly isn't a bad ride, it's just disappointing compared to Disneyland's. But thank you so much, I appreciate that!!!

    Personally I live in California and have been going to Disneyland ever since I can remember so maybe I’m a little biased but I definitely agree Disneyland’s pirates is way better my Cusin pointed out that Disney world just “doesn’t have the Walt touch” he belives that Disneyland has a different feel than Disney world what’s your opinion?

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  5 лет назад +5

      I agree! Walt Disney's imagination is all over the original Pirates, while the Magic Kingdom one feels like a rushed copy that misses out on a lot of the best details!

    • @Jen-cj2br
      @Jen-cj2br 5 лет назад

      I love both of them for such different reasons. When I’m at DL, I can really feel Walt’s legacy but when I’m at WDW, I feel more immersed in the stories I love. Character interactions are better at DL but I like the park variety at WDW. I would rather be at any Disney park than no Disney park, though haha

    • @Jen-cj2br
      @Jen-cj2br 5 лет назад

      But as for Pirates, Disneyland’s wins.

    • @highfive2935
      @highfive2935 4 года назад

      I heavily disagree, Disney World is the park Walt wanted to build, his touch and legacy is definitely apparent there. The reason the pirates ride at World isn't the same is because they had to put it in last minute not because they lacked Walt's "touch". Disneyland is the park he got to see to completion yes, but don't discount the effect he had on World's construction.

    • @SteveCarras
      @SteveCarras 4 года назад

      To me, WDW just doesn't have a lot of the same at DL has, like the bayou, the first, real big drop, and most of the scenes.

    I am an old Disneylander. Visited both Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean in their opening years. Always found fault is young youtubers who try to flesh out attractions and concepts from attractions that predate them by 30 or 40 years. So I decided to watch yours expecting the same.
    But you are right on the money here and this is an excellently done video. I've always thought that if Disney had utilized the space that is in the queue to the ride instead, they may have been able to make something comparable to the Disneyland version. I was very disappointed in the Disneyworld version for all of the reasons you mentioned.
    Also, good for you in researching Marc Davis' Western River Expedition saga. If I remember correctly, Card Walker was president of Disney at the time, and succumbed to public pressure to put a Pirates ride in Disney World through no fault of his own.
    In any case, excellent video from an old coot, and I have subscribed.

    You are spot on!!! Not everything at Disneyland is the best but it is the best. There are almost as many rides at Disneyland's two parks than there are at four of WDW's. They know how to cram them in, in California. I grew up close to WDW, but Disneyland is my favorite!!!

    As a lifelong goer of WDW it is my responsibility to stick up for what is right, and that is that POTC in MK is NOTHING in comparison to Disneyland. The swamp, two drops, and a beautiful and full grotto are just the beginning of the long list of reasons why DL POTC is one of the best rides ever made. It was an ambitious project from one of history's most ambitious men. The other one was rushed to meet fan demand and to keep them waiting for the Western River Adventure that used a lot of the elements of POTC in DL, but was ultimately scrapped along with the rest of Thunder Mesa. Florida wound up with POTC lite and it isn't even close folks

    Disneyland native here! I think Pirates in California is vastly superior. It just has that...feeling. It was built so meticulously and there was so much thought put into it that it just wins. Disney World was a Walt concept, but he didn't live long enough to fully make it his, like he did at Disneyland. This revealed itself when Disney World started selling alcoholic drinks in 2012, for financial reasons, of course. Disneyland held out, I presume for some corporate sentimental value, until greed made them open Oga's Cantina in 2019. Now everyone can see their uncle drunk on the Teacups.

Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean has a nice, beautiful beginning in the blue bayou and then you go down to sizable drops and has an amazing middle and climax to the story and ends nice with seeing the people standing at the entrance and looking at the parrot scene at the end. Also, as you obviously may know, Disneylander, the original at Disneyland wasn't meant to be a ride, it was meant as a partly underground tourist walk-through, yada yada yada, but then I think yoiu mentioned that already Take care.

    I've only seen ride throughs of Disneyland's Pirates, but despite all the extra scenes I'm still very conflicted. Disneyland's queue I'm sure is nostalgic for Disneylanders, but it looks miserable and almost entirely unthemed. I'm also very confused by the bayou scene. It doesn't make sense to me that a ride set in the Caribbean starts in a bayou in Louisiana. I know it's because of pirates like Jean Lafitte, but it feels really weird to ride past an old man on his porch while banjo music plays and suddenly you're in the caribbean during the age of piracy. Also, the fire flies look really bad even for the time period. You can very obviously see that they're just lights being blown by a fan. The caves and the skeleton pirates are pretty cool in Disneyland, but the soundtrack seems kind of weird and disjointed. In Disney World the scene is short, almost too short, but the tone is set really well by the soundtrack and the small scene that we do have. In Disneyland you see all these scenes... and then you unceremoniously drift into the town scene like nothing happened. In Disney World you see the skull's eyes flash in your face, you're dropped into darkness, and then when you can finally see again the ship is right in front of you! It's an incredible reveal! In Disneyland it's almost disappointing. Not to mention Disney World has smellitizers throughout the ride. The smell of gunpowder, rum, and fire really make everything feel so real. I still wish that Disney World had the scenes after the jail, but if they just got rid of Jack Sparrow and returned to the old show scene it'd still be much better. Maybe seeing Disneyland's Pirates in person would make a difference, but it kind of feels like Disney World was just trimming the fat.

    Fantastic video! I'm glad I subscribed to your channel. I'll agree with you that the Disneyland Pirates is better. I've been on both versions too. I especially love the longer cave sequences on the Disneyland version. As a Floridian, I wish we had the treasure rooms and the extra caves as well as two waterfall drops, though I understand they couldn't put a second drop in because of the high water table in this state. That said, I give the Disneyland version a 10/10 and the Magic Kingdom an 8/10. I still very much enjoy the Magic Kingdom one, even if I like the Disneyland one more. However, I will say I don't miss the blue bayou and here's why. I live in northern Florida, and there are tons of areas like the blue bayou in my location in which I see trees sticking out of the water and Spanish moss draped on the branches. The blue bayou scene to me isn't very foreign where I live. I feel the Magic Kingdom queue of Pirates does a great job in slowly immersing the rider into the experience.
    Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. I can't wait to watch more of your videos.

      Thank you so much! I definitely agree that wine great scenes are missing in Disney World. Even without the bayou, though, I think they should have added something like it, though. I’ve been to both parks and been on both rides and as soon as I saw the title of this video, I said Disneyland wins. It’s not really even a contest, the one in Disneyland is so much better. I am curious, if the Disneyland version were put up against the one in Shanghai, how would it fair? I’ve never had the opportunity to go to Shanghai and ride it, but just based on videos that I’ve seen, it looks pretty incredible! So, that might be an interesting “vs” to visit in the future.

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  4 года назад

      I totally agree, this one was an easy choice! As far as the Shanghai one goes, though, I'd have to ride it in person to say for sure! It looks absolutely spectacular, but at the same time it's different enough to make it hard to compare. Shanghai has some incredible new technology, but California's Pirates has the classic nostolgia and simplicity. A tough call for sure!

    • @srayj
      @srayj 4 года назад

      Disneylander You make a really good point, the Shanghai version is actually based almost solely on the movies, which were inspired by the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland, so, in a way, it’s not really fair to compare them. Also, I am not a fan of the abundance of screen technology now being used on rides, but it looks like it has been pretty well integrated into the practical sets and effects, which I appreciate, but the animatronics in the original are truly an engineering marvel! To think that they created that many is impressive and that they are still around and hold up to modern audiences over 40 years later! Nothing can probably beat the original.

    I have a question I was hoping you might be able to answer. Living on the east coast I have only ever enjoyed the WDW version of Pirates. When RUclips came along, I was finally able to see just how much more awesome the Disneyland version is, and there is one section of that ride I am curious about. Right after you pass through the jail scene where the imprisoned pirates are whistling at the dog, you cruise through an area (before you get to the armory scene) where there are a bunch of broken beams and wooden slats above, and you can hear creaking noises. I believe at one time there was an effect that made it appear the ceiling was about to collapse and cave in but I cannot find a good video of this particular area. Most of the time everything is stationary and there doesn't seem to be a point to this scene. There is a chair and a bottle (and perhaps some other stuff) up in the rafters, but I never can tell what is supposed to be happening, or what used to happen when the effect was in operation. No one ever comments on this part of the ride so I was hoping you could shed some light on it. Thanks!

    • @Disneylander
      @Disneylander  4 года назад

      That whole area of the ride is designed to look like it's about to fall in on itself, though there's not really an "effect", rather a stationary set. You pass under a wooden pier of some sort that is falling apart and smouldering in parts as if it was recently in fire. There's beams and chairs and things that look like they should fall in on themselves and crash onto the riders, but they're held up by wires 😉
