    Love your channel! I read that Disney World does not do the holiday overlay since they get more once-in-a-lifetime visitors and they want the experience to be the same for everyone year-round. Anaheim and Tokyo get more local visitors, so they do the overlays there. Again, don't know if that's true, but I swear I read it somewhere. Keep up the fun videos!

      I feel like I've heard that as well, come to think of it! And I suppose it does make sense, buuut, I still think it'd be best for them to do the layover in my opinion! Thanks, Greg!

    • @ItzAdrian02
      @ItzAdrian02 5 лет назад +2

      It's true because once Disneylands became successful, they made duplicate decor and props for the MK, but cast members (AT THE TIME) said they didn't want it because of the one time guests. So Disney were lucky enough to give it to Tokyo which had the duplicate of WDW. So you know everything in HMH in Tokyo was originally for WDW

    The holiday lay over in Disneyland is the go-to thing for everyone to put it above Magic Kingdom. But I think the mere fact that MK doesn’t do the lay over at all makes it an unfair comparison...Idk. (Now I just wanna add as a sidenote my personal opinion about the facades. I do prefer the decrepit, creepier, gothic look of MK’s version. DL’s is undeniably beautiful and majestic but it doesn’t feel like a haunted mansion. Also I like DL’s stretching room better than MK bcuz you are in an elevator taking you down a whole floor it makes for a much more impactful effect of that scene...in MK it’s not as high and bewildering an effect)

    • @SteveCarras
      @SteveCarras 4 года назад +1

      I put Florida's Magic Kingdom over California's Magic Kingdom (I grew up with the term MK as it applies to Cali.blushing:)) Haunted house.) The overlay at Dsneyland is why it gets less points. Just like at Universal anywhere, where Chuck Jones/Boris Karloff fans would hate on Jim Carrey/Ron Howard's Grinch-Mas (I like both Univ and Jones but prefer jones's, his last remotely good thing..with Disney's Thurl Ravenscroft on both the original Grinch and everywhere at Disney! He;s a ghostly Disney Legend!OO!) 2000's Grinch is the same way..too snarky and shit for some. I like it a bit, but it's worn bad. I don't like a lot of WB legend Chuck Jones's later stuff, but the Grinch is, we all agree, as done by him a classic, same with the Haunted Mansion '69 versus the Burton remake..Burton and Ron Howard, oddly, both overly disgusting (Howard himself isn't like that,usually in his films. )

    The reason why Walt Disney World doesn’t do the lay over for Haunted Mansion Holiday is because they feel Disney World is the Tourist destination. Disneyland is more for the locals. They do have books in the Florida version to reference Nightmare Before Christmas, but you need to look for them. Good video. You really know your stuff. If you do another comparison, I would try and do this. Which park has the best themed land. That way you can compare are the ride in one land together

      Walt Disney WOrld gets my votes for not having HMH, and they get a slight edge, despite my being there just once..(Otherwise Disneyland does justice to the shared rides..especially Pirates & It's a Small World like I've said..) But they DO get points removed with the re-do of the ghosts at the end..

    Buddy, I don't know about you, but I could totally take up permanent residence at both Disneyland and Disneyworld. I especially love the old retro outer space ambiance of Tomorrowland and the New Orleans Square vibe in Anaheim. All in all, I feel like Anaheim has a much stronger "Magic Kingdom" than Orlando. Of course, that is just my opinion, but I suppose I feel that way due to Anaheim being the classic and original Disney park experience. Keep the videos coming. They're bringing the inner child in me back out! Lol.

    You’ve made great points. Two more elements for the Magic Kingdom: the attraction interacts with everyone’s Magic Bands (this is a unique feature you wont find in any other Disney park), the ride technology is more advanced in Orlando, and there’s a whole indoor shop themed, Memento Mori.
    I also like the exterior of Disneyland more and the holiday overlay, but considering my previous points and that the ride is longer and more complete in Magic Kingom, I’ll stick with the Florida version 😉

    I do think Disneyland's Haunted Mansion is better than the Magic Kingdom's, and it has nothing to do with the holiday special, that Disneyland, does. Disneyland's Haunted Mansion is more interactive than Magic Kingdom, IMO. The fact the que has to split up, for you to even interact with Magic Kingdom's version, doesn't win brownie points, in my book. What I think makes Disneyland's Haunted Mansion more interactive is that it's BOTH a "walking" experience AND a "riding" experience, at the same time. Whereas the Magic Kingdom's is more of a get on and leave. With Disneyland, you have that walking experience with the hallway. Then, after the ride, (even though this animatronic is in the Magic Kingdom ride, it's very brief, whereas in Disneyland it's a longer a experience, but I digress) upon exiting, there's one more animatronic you interact with, as you're walking away from the ride, and you don't have to split up, for that. That's where I feel like Disneyland surpasses Magic Kingdom.

    I love the hitch-hiking ghost sequence at the Magic Kingdom. They don't just appear in your vehicle here, they interact with you and some even swap your head with your riding companion. That should have at least garnered a point. Disneyland doesn't have that yet. But overall great video!!!!

    This would probably be a tie for me. What the Magic Kingdom version lost in the indoor queue in gets back in the ride section. Although I personally still prefer the outer queue of the original from a thematic perspective. You feel like you're outside an old mansion with the family crypt and graveyard attached to it, and Magic Kingdom has the fun extras, but it feels less immersive and more theme parky for lack of a better term if that makes any sense.

      Being the first doesnt mean you are the best tbh. Walt Disney created Disney World to correct all the mistakes he made with Disneyland. DL became quickly encroached with highways, traffic, Mcdonalds, cheap motels, cheap stores etc All of those elements destroyed the Disney magic he wanted to create, and it stopped him from expanding the world he created
      Florida is the ultimate Disney experience, its Walt’s dream come true. Its a bubble, safe, clean, ordered, where the bad side of reality doesnt affect the experience, and where Disney can build and keep building as new ideas come up
      So, sorry, but I disagree. Disneyland was the first, Disney World was the perfected version

    The reason they do not do the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay at WDW is because They have a contract with Tim Burton to use his characters. They actually have to pay him yearly an undisclosed amount of money for the time period. Tim Burton signed a contract for only a five year use, but when the contract was up Disney had him sign a new one to keep it going. A family friend who used to work for Disney as a higher up many years before retiring had told my Mom the reason they do not do it in Florida is for business reasons. They want to make money. They want people to visit their park in California because it is the only place in the United States to see it. it's to keep something special that is only able to be seen at the OG park (unless you wanna fly to Tokyo)…. ;)

    According to the “Story”, the HM in Florida is how the Mansion used to look when built by its original owner, “Ub Van Iderweks”, a Dutch “Burgermeister” and brick layer/mason. The village elders warned him not to build on that hill, which used to be a valley and was a rumored burial mound for the dead. On Halloween of 1671, Ub finished the mansion and moved his family inside. The village elders warned him not to build on that hill, which used to be a valley and was a rumored burial mound for the dead. Ub ignored them. Upon moving in, Ub went mad and attacked his family, who fled in terror and never returned. Ub himself sealed himself up in a crypt in the nearby cemetery, using his mason tools. Over time the mansion was used as a pirate’s den, a brothel, and a military headquarters.
    Shortly after the Civil War, a military officer and lithography business owner, Colonel Ron Stevens, was on a riverboat tour when he won the deed to a mansion on the hill overlooking the river, from a stranger on the riverboat tour. The stranger seemed to let Col. Stevens win the game, and never removed his cloak hood. Colonel Ron Stevens began renovating the Haunted Mansion and on Halloween of 1871, he finished renovating and moved his family into the mansion. The “Antebellum” design is the “remodeled” appearance. After moving in, Col. Stevens went crazy and spent his days carving his name backwards, “Snevets Nor”, into anything he could get his hands on, obsessively and constantly. He stopped eating, sleeping, and going to work. The business suffered and failed, and one day the furnace exploded as he tried to carve his name backwards into it, and the pieces of his body were buried under all of the stones into which he had carved his name backwards. The Stevens family sold their house to the American Spiritualist Society and moved away. In 1914, the Gracey Family bought the Mansion from the American Spiritualist Society for use as their “Winter Home”.

    Ehhh... Disneyland's loses a point for the Holiday Layover for me. Yes, Nightmare Before Christmas is a good movie, but I still hate it impinging on the Haunted Mansion. That said, Disneyland has a good Haunted Mansion. I love the southern mansion theme, as well as being able to actually enjoy the changing portraits while walking through the queue (the portraits pass by too fast on the Magic Kingdom ride so you can't truly enjoy them), but aside from that, the Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion is superior. The MC Escher staircase room, the library, the music room, the room with all the eyes looking at you, just enhances the experience. Also, the outside queue to Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion is just so fun. Yes, Disneyland's Mansion is good, but Magic Kingdom's is so much better. Though Disneyland does have the better Pirates ride.

    Great video and I totally agree with you on all of your points. I'm sure someone else has pointed out that the reason Florida doesn't do Haunted Mansion Holiday is the fact the Disneyland in California and Tokyo as well are dealing more with local residents who go numerous times a year or every year and like the variety that the holiday layover(s) give to the Park for the seasonal elements. Florida considers that they are for many people a once in a lifetime trip or once every so many years and so they feel people want to see the original version on their trip to WDW. Don't know if I totally agree (they used to do Country Bear Jamboree Holiday layover and the Small World one down in Florida), but I understand the idea of not doing it.

    Has the Haunted Mansion ever been updated in the last 10 years or so? I went to Disneyworld Florida around about or just over 10 years ago and I can’t remember any of these ride details? I’m pretty sure we went on it, I remember the “stretching room”. But not the actual ride segment... Weird..

  • @ztslovebird
    @ztslovebird 4 года назад +1

    According to Disney, Florida can’t have any holiday overlays for their classic rides (Small World, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, etc.) because Florida gets exponentially more Guests than California. And they don’t want to upset the international folks who came to hear Grim Grinning Ghosts but instead got This Is Halloween.
    Dumb excuse.

    I believe the reason they don't do it its because while DL its a locals park, WDW its an international park, so people that save for a once in a lifetime trip would rather see the original HM and not the layout.

    Alright I actually know why Disney World won’t do a Christmas lay over. The logic behind this decision is that Disney World was designed for tourist from across the world. So some people may go to Disney world during Christmas and never go again, and it would kinda suck to not be able to go on the original ride. Disney Land on the other hand is held together by annual Pass holders and locals. Granted alot of things have changed since this decision was made but that was the logic at the time.

    • @MysteryManfrom79
      @MysteryManfrom79 5 лет назад +1

      @@Disneylander Yes, trouble is you only see it if you're the first in. Tokyo Disney wait till the foyer is full, but in WDW it changes within seconds of the first person arriving in the foyer. Part of me wishes DL had not put it in the corridor and left the APRIL/DECEMBER portrait instead, I used to enjoy those subtle little differences between the two. The same with the Ghost Host ride audio, in the 2007 rehab WDW changed the lines which were different takes to the ones at DL to the same, so that's not unique to WDW anymore either. I do prefer though in WDW you are waiting at a closed, ominous door to go in - at DL the foyer is usually left open and someone is always at the door just stopping the queue every now and then.

      @@zekeholloway4413 I've seen it a couple of times when I've been first in, it only stays like that about 10 secs most of the time. But as WDW is so crammed these days, hold ups emptying the Stretch Rooms mean they don't always let the next group in on time. It's just annoying it has that 2 stage head-start over the foyer narration. You always here the narration from the start, so if they just adjusted it to start the same time (like it used to) you'd be more likely to see it....

      I was told by a Disney employee why they do not do the Nightmare Before Christmas layover at Magic Kingdom. It is because Disneyland’s guests are mostly repeat visitors who have likely seen the ride in its normal state whereas Disney World visitors are largely once in a lifetime visitors who would be upset that the one chance they get to go isn’t the expected ride. Not 100% that this is the case, but in Orlando, we do have a lot of international visitors who might not make it an annual trip.
