Due to the short clip of music used in my version of the drop scene with Dr. Facilier, and the fact that I refuse to cut it out of the video... I just have to note that every penny made from this video goes directly to... Disney! 😆
Imagine the ride as the original movie. Where Tiana in her blue dress, kisses the frog and then we turn into frogs in the bayou while Dr faciller chases us with his demons! Imagine “are you ready” as you’re going up the hill and dr facillier poofs smoke and his eyes are showing in the dark as you splash down!!!! And then the ending is Tiana and naveens wedding, then a peppers ghost effect of the frogs turning into their human forms. Tiana in her beautiful green dress!!! With mama odie!!!
That actually would’ve been a worthy replacement for Splash Mountain. I mean nothing replaces a classic with Walt’s music, but that would actually become a beloved attraction.
For real! Dr Facilier is a villain MADE to be the black light segment of a classic dark ride. His “are you ready?” theme would’ve been perfect for the big drop. Tiana and Splash Mountain deserve better than what actually happened.
Having all music stop in the middle of a dark ride to just sit in silence is one of the scariest things I think I could experience. Wish there was a more horror focused theme park
I was once in a haunted house where part of the ride was a fake break down as an unconventional scare. We legit thought we got stuck there for a moment, but then talked to another group and turns out they had the same "accident" in the same spot
No, I have a worse one. The Juncle Cruise boat sinking in the hippo pool. If that doesn’t sound that bad just remember, the hippos bottom is literally just machinery.
I had that happen at six flags Fiesta Texas, on the pirate themed dark ride that used to be Scooby Doo themed. The car stopped and the lap bar popped up, and iirc the cannon fire for the previous scene played a couple times and then stopped. The silence was excruciating. We were in a straight section between scenes. This was a kiddie ride, but up ahead was some sort of vaguely textured black skeleton pirate and I swear to god the longer we sat there his face got meltier and his eyes just... Deepened. Felt like they could cut me down to my small intestine. Eventually the ride op came and walked us over to the exit, and it was cool to see the last couple scenes up close, plus we got a free one-time fast pass for any ride in the park Actually, you could utilize this effect on purpose very effectively. Have the ride stop suddenly and have dim "emergency lights" come on, wait a couple beats, have one of the animatronics start moving so slow you think you're going insane, then it lunges just as the ride starts moving again. Get the lighting right and you gonna need to pay someone to wipe the pissy seats down every ride 😂
Recently got to talk with a former imagineer for a project. Here’s what they said went wrong. 1. It could never live up to the legacy. He said he wasn’t a fan of splash mountain but with other rides he saw that unless the ride was awful, the new ride couldn’t live up to the standards set by the previous attraction. 2. The bones of splash mountain sucked. He said Disney wanted to save money so by the end of splash mountains run it was a duct tape mentality. Or fix is quickly and with the least cost possible. He also mentioned leaks. 3. Bad planning. He told me that the company didn’t give them enough time to make a good story and they didn’t want to tell the same as the movie. So they made a story but then cuts had to be made to the story due to budget cuts. 4. Not having 2 characters to focus on. In splash Mountain, he said you could go from one scene to another, and they would be seamless because you would be focusing on different characters. Tiana’s bayou you’re focusing on Tiana so you don’t get that switch back-and-forth between characters. Leading to dead time is what he called it. My understanding it’s just moments where there’s awkward silence.
Ugh.. they should've still continued with just the movie being turned into a ride. Don't know why they wanna always make original things that end up being terrible.
the fact that such an incredible ride concept got fumbled so hard HURTS. A Princess and the Frog E-ticket has the potential to be legendary, even if it's just a retheme, and yet we got this
did you even ride the ride? it’s amazing😭 i don’t get why a few breakdowns makes it trashy. the amount of people that have been on this ride is what’s causing it to tweak so hard
Yeah and the fact that The Princess and the Frog and Jungle Cruise movies is way better than Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Jungle Cruise underwhelming ride, I cannot wait until the afterlife when I can finally rebuild the perfect Disneyland with real high quality rides including Meet the Robinsons, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, The Emperor's New Groove and build the Princess and the Frog with Dr. Facilier and Jungle Cruise with villains that Disneyland and Disney world in this earthly life refuse to give us. I hope that Tiana's Bayou Adventure will get rethemed to the real Princess and the Frog ride or else get moved elsewhere to a dark gentle and get rethemed a second time to Pocahontas Around the Riverbend or The Lion King ride which I will more happily ride instead. I haven't rode Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland yet but I have a bad feeling it's going to be like the lame Jungle Cruise slow ride rather than the Dwayne Johnson ride 2021 film version with river rapids and danger thrills.
I thought it would be so cool if the area that used to have the cave of glowy mushrooms got rethemed to look like Dr Facilier’s voodoo lair. Wouldn’t that have been awesome!!
The story should have been something like: the riders are helping gather the animals while the shadow man tries to stop us. The whole "mama odi shrinking the riders" thing should have been the shadow man. And mama odi should have been the one to "un shrink" the riders. Leaving one of the best villains out was such a big missed opportunity to add drama and suspense to the ride!!! It could have been so much better!
The only reason I can think of why they didn't include the Shadow Man was probably because he dies at the end of the film and this ride is supposed to be long after the film's conclusion when Tiana finally opens her business with Naveen However that doesn't really make sense if they still have the Shadow Man as an interactive park character Then again they have plenty of other villains still shown... oh well! It def was a missed opportunity :[
@MiiPunchy Disney has brought numerous villains back that have less supernatural prowess than him, so it doesn’t make sense, no matter how you slice it :(
@MiiPunchy Here's something: I have hung out with Baxter a couple of times and he's told me that the original plan was to have Tiana's be a re-telling of the original film, complete with Shadow man and all. They were pretty close to finishing the storyline and ride outline but when presented to Disney higher-ups, they wanted something new and they also didn't want to have the Shadow man involved since they were worried that it'd offend some people since 1. He's a black villain and 2. He uses voodoo in a negative way. Both are very stupid reasons but they still didn't let the plans go forwards. So the new storyline was built but Baxter left right after they shot down the first concept.
This really shows on how Disney is falling short on the quality of their parks while their main competition is building something EPIC down the street.
uhhh..there was nothing ever simple about an animatronic..smh...and how many times did the original break down...this hate for Disney is just getting old and childish...so plz just stfu
I believe thats something to hold the sleeve of the clothes in place? To keep it at her wrist instead of moving around. Bc if I remember correctly I remember seeing that in the animatronic reveal. But I also was like “eugh thats kinda….obvious” 😭 its def not a great look at ALL
There’s a big thing that the ride is missing: Dr Facilier. “Friends on the other side” is the best song in the whole damn movie. Imagine hitting the lift hill and you start to hear “Are You Reeaadyy”.
I hate the virtual queues. You either have to wake up at 6 am sharp, or be at the park when the queue reopens and pray that you get a spot that's at a decent time and not 7 hours later. and THEN you still have to wait in a line once your queue spot opens!!
All I’m saying is, leaving out Dr. Facilier was the BIGGEST mistake they could’ve ever made and they did. Not only that but bringing the myth and legend KEITH DAVID to the ride premier only to have him in ONE SINGLE AUDIO in the ride queue as a news anchor or whatever. Other than that, I know it’s supposed to take place after the events of the movie but quite honestly, Facilier alone would save the ride at this point. Friends on the Other Side would be amazing for the drop! What about When Were Human too? Lots of songs that could really change this ride for the better!
I mean they could have had it so that he made a new deal with his “friends” to get revenge. An easy fix and would have added a bit more life. Plus more Keith David is never a bad thing.
i just found out magic kingdom leaves all the park's lights on even when the guests are sleeping in their resorts maybe they do this so the ghosts of removed attractions don't possess anything
I'm not surprised it had so many issues. Given that the older rides that got upgrades continued to fail, this being more tech heavy was just asking for problems.
Look on the bright side, Disney's refusal to include Facilier to avoid references to religion at least means we won't get a sucky live action remake of this film. .... Right?
Haha! Unfortunately nothing is sacred under capitalism. Don't forget they didn't want to have the seven dwarfs in Snow White, yet still went ahead with the project and just changed the species. Then got backclash and went back on it again. I think the thing that is holding them back on a Princess and the Frog remake is that the film did not do so well the first time.
@@gracestitzelIt IS a religion, though it’s a pagan religion called “Hoodoo” as far as I can recall. There’s different sub-sects of hoodoo depending on location though like Haiti, Louisiana, and the Caribbean. (Again, this is as far as I know lol)
I was always put off by people defending it like "it's a new ride, it's going to be messed up" and stuff like that. If it gets to the point where you're going on a ride expecting it to be broken (looking at you Indiana), I feel like there's a bigger problem here.
Rides didn't start breaking down until at least 5 years after opening. For a brand new ride to be breaking down within the first year is cause for concern. This should not be accepted as the norm, but people are being conditioned to normalize it. Either way, it all comes down to proper maintenance. Why is it that Disney and Universal domestic parks have regular breakdowns while the foreign parks work much more reliably? All comes down to money.
@@zeroraptor_ The Tokyo and Hong Kong parks are owned and run by a different company. They manage to make Paris work though so I'm not sure what their excuse is.
Ugh. Of COURSE they’re planning to f*ck with Tiki Room too. Moana, Moana everywhere. Carsland in Rivers of America is stupid too. The top brass at Disney need to be stopped. Artists and artisans they are not.
@@gabsmcdead4855 Why do we need our culture and politics at Disney World little buddy? It’s not about that shit. It’s about cartoons and fun. No one needs stories with the n word all over them taking over Disney parks.
The sad thing about all this is not only was Splash Mountain NAACP approved and fully endorsed, but Brer Rabbit is an African American folktale. His origins can be traced back to Africa with different variations of the character. Sure SOTS has aged poorly, but the Brer characters shouldn’t be erased due to their association with one film. They deserved a redemption arc. As for Princess and the Frog, a ride completely built from the ground up would’ve gave the movie justice. We could’ve gotten a cool restaurant with Tiana’s Palace as a bonus too
Yes! I recently had someone, who is black, tell me that she enjoyed Splash Mountain not only because it's a fun ride but, also because it acted out some of the stories her grandfather would tell her.
@@practicalconservation5017the fact that Disney is actively erasing and lying about Brer Rabbit is far more problematic than anything SOTS ever did. You can’t even mention Brer Rabbit outside of the ride/film anymore without someone thinking he’s racist. Truly disheartening
what sucks more is that the movie made history with featuring the first African American man to get an Oscar, along with the 1st African American WOMAN to get one. this was her first movie before hitting her oscar winning role. they completely erased these achievements and milestones in holywood.
The concept with Dr. Facilier at the lift hill was absolutely brilliant. Truly a missed opportunity on Disney’s part. While the minority (who complain about everything) would have been mad, the majority would have been happy! I’ve read come concepts, some are probably on here of what the ride could have been like. -Tiana, Naveen and Luis are looking for animals to play at her restaurant. You successfully find the animals then Dr. Facilier appears and turns everyone into frogs. That leads you to the first drop. In that little space before the second little drop (At DisneyWorld) Frog figures/animatronics of Naveen and Tiana could appear in their frog states. The bottom portion where the laughing place was could have been Dr. Facilier’s “lair” or shadow figures could appear and the aesthetic could have heavily wrapped around that. Then that leads you to the lift hill. And “Friends on the other side” would start to play. At the top of the lift hill, Mama Odie is seen and she defeats Dr. Facilier right before you drop. Another concept I saw was right before you go up the hill, an animatronic of Dr. Facilier would appear. And at the top of the hill where Mama Odie is now, her and Dr. Facilier’s shadow would have appeared! My dad actually mentioned this would have been a good idea because Splash Mountain already had a projection up there of Brer Fox! Then at the end, you end in the party scene! I rest my case Disney, please open back up creative freedom instead of handicapping yourself to “political correctness!”! 🙏🏼
Since when has Disney cared about bringing a character back from the dead with no explanation? "Somehow, Palpatine has returned." They never should have changed Splash Mountain to this nonsense. New character should get their own ride, not just take over the old classics that people still enjoy. The fact that people are going into debt just to go to Disney parks shows how brainwashed they are. Stop giving Disney your money! They don't care about you. Even though I grew up going to Disneyland almost every year of my childhood, I now have no desire to ever go back to a Disney theme park again. They have destroyed what I used to love.
The problem is technical issues due to poor planning and budget cuts, which is absolutely worthy of heavily criticizing. But this is also bringing out a group that would guffaw at it even if it was a perfect ride.
I am black (it seems like most of the people commenting on how racist the old ride and movie are aren't 🤔) and don't care for the narrative that the movie and all things tied to it is completely racist. There were good things (the black actors getting recognition and being treated well on set by Disney himself, the interracial friendships portrayed in the film, the stories actually being derived from African folk tales and being about overcoming oppression, the ride removed any hint at race other than the characters having ~gasp~ southern black accents like in the film etc) and bad things (all of this coming through the perspective of white ppl, the lack of realism about the era it was set in, etc). It's not all black and white. The ride seems scrambled together to please these short sighted people who don't take account of all of the facts. And in essence is a bit cringey because the only black princess is getting the short end of the stick when she deserved her own ride. I don't completely hate it though, the animatronics and effects are amazing, I just feel like she deserved better. Either way modern disney is trash
I found they salt mines for seasoned veterans "joke"in poor taste since slaves were used heavily in the salt industry in the south why they didn't know this when they added it to ride that was supposed to be less offensive is beyond me what is your opinion
@liamcollinson5695 wow i had no clue. Definitely more evidence they lazily put this all together just to appease people who are also just as ignorant about history even tho they claim to know so much about the racist backstory of everything. Tiana deserves better and her own ride
I 100% agree with you. The late daughter of Nick Stewart (the African American actor who played Brer Bear) talked about how sad she was to see how Disney is leaving her father’s legacy in ruins. She said the same thing you did. Walt treated everyone so well on set, and despite the controversies, she believed that the movie had a messages of friendship. They definitely need to make Tiana’s ride better for the future! They have the potential to make her ride great, but they need to stop using screens and going cheap. Disney has lost their way!
You just gave me a good idea for an animation. Br'er Fox watching the ride on RUclips, ranting about what they got wrong, and Br'er Bear would try to comfort him even though he doesn't fully understand the situation.
I'm a HUGE Splash Mountain fan, so the closure hit me really hard. I will never forgive Disney for replacing one of their best rides with something so lackluster. Especially when it could have been avoided so easily. There is plenty of room at WDW to expand and give Tiana her own ride/land if they really wanted to, and I would have loved that. Tiana is one of the best princesses and she deserves something so mych better. This was a massive disappointment for both Splash Mountain and Tiana fans.
Splash totally could have stayed. 21,000 blm wokesters of 2020 petitioned, but by the time Disney made the dreaded decision, the petition to save it was at 42,000, and it got up to nearly 100,000 in following months. It was my favorite ride, but Disney wanted to push their wicked agenda today and ruin a classic masterpiece.
ive always wanted to go to the Disney parks since I was like 10 and I’m so sad I can never experience splash mountain ever 😭 I’m so disappointed in the revamp, its lukewarm to say the least
@@callmedisappointment Tokyo Disneyland is owned and ran by the Oriental Land Company, and they refused to retheme the ride over there because they knew how messed up that decision is. Tokyo Disneyland still has Splash Mountain. I plan to go within the next decade or so. Splash Mountain is worth getting to experience.
Honestly, the original ride was also terrible structurally. The last time I went on the og splash mountain, the log stopped like 5 times abruptly. It is also no secret that the old animatronics broke easily and were often seen not moving smoothly. They nicknamed on of the animatronics "the million dollar rabbit" because it constantly had to be repaired. At this point, I just think that there is something off with the layout of the ride itself that causes these issues. I don't see these issues as much with other rides with animatronics+water. I feel like they should have spent more on it to fix the general problems that comes with using that location, but maybe they just have no idea how to do that without tearing the whole thing apart, so they just decided to let it be bugged. These problems are the same as the old problems, but just more noticeable due to fewer animatronics
@@katef96 Just looked it up. I'm thankful I'd never heard of that before. That was so disrespectful, and stupid on Disney's part to change it. I'm glad it caught fire. Thanks for pointing it out to me though. It's definitely an.... "Interesting" part of Disney history.
Those animatronics are just amazing, I cannot believe they wasted them like that. It's like buying an expensive new car while living in a rundown trailer with holes in the ceiling. Priorities, man. Maybe fix the mold problem and make sure the thing actually works before shoving a bunch of expensive robots into your damp crawl space of a ride?
When are people going to get it if somebody gets all whiny about something being inspired by certain religions (Doctor Vasilije and the tiki room) because they don’t like seeing religions that aren’t theirs, guess what, their opinions aren’t worth taking into account The moment you start listening to the complaints of the whiny Karen’s is the moment you piss everyone off
@@melodysmusicaladventures596Right? Like yeah, IG some people won’t like the tiki room, but it’s not public opinion to change it. Are there even people (actual Polynesians and not white Karens speaking for them) complaining in the first place?
Same thing happened when they rethemed Maelstrom to Frozen. That refurb was also super unreliable with lots of breakdowns and lots of downtime early on. Hopefully they can iron it out in the new ride also
One of the issues I recall hearing were the projection face animatronics always glitching out. Maybe they can ditch those eventually for actual robotic faces, but Disney hates spending money if it’s good enough. Still, Frozen is a ride I done once while Maelstrom is one I’ve done many.
I really hope not. They’re destroying all their iconic historical rides. They’re ruining their own legacy and replacing it all with stuff that no one actually wants.
6:58 One thing I like to share is, while yes, this is a retelling of The Frog Prince, the film is also loosely based on The Frog Princess by ED Baker. E.D. Baker is pretty much the one who came up with the fun twist of having the female lead become a frog and going on an adventure like that. And I believe that there was some sort of agreement that Disney got film rights to the book. Sorry, I know this is unconnected to the ride.
The original Splash Mountain was one of the most colourful, richly detailed , and wonderfully whimsical rides Disney has ever made. It never failed to put me in a spectacular mood, even when I was younger and was scared of the 50 foot drop. I’ve rode the “new” version 3 times. Surprisingly almost everything was “working”. ‘Bayou Adventure’ might be the most bland and soulless update they’ve ever made to an attraction (and it has stiff competition). Beautifully hand sculpted set pieces were replaced with off the shelf sign boards, crates, store bought plastic plants, and cheap Christmas lights. No effort was made to integrate the music with the story or dialogue (which is piss poor as is). The 11 true animatronics of Tiana, Louis, and Odie are impressive in a vacuum, but they are staged so poorly that you don’t even get to see them long enough to appreciate them. I’m baffled that Disney saw this thing as an adequate replacement to one of the best attractions ever made. It will be a stain on the Parks for decades to come.
No joke, the first time i ever rode Tiana's, the ride broke just before we got to the lower level drop. We were led all the way to the back of the building, getting a pretty good look at everything
They could have totally done the movie plot for this ride and it could have worked and been really beautiful. I guess they really wanted to keep that steam boat at the end of the ride too
I rode it, coincidentally on opening day. Never again. What a disappointment even when it’s working properly. They have destroyed capacity at the Magic Kingdom with this horrible and misguided decision.
@@ello_m8_734 pls point to me where I am. You guys just sound like whiny brats of capitalism yet are probably well over your 20s. Meanwhile there are ppl in developing countries who wish this was their struggle. This is the behavior I see kids who don’t get their way lol.
@@melinatedthinka8210 so let me get this straight, the people who complained in the first place for the changes to be made originally to the ride. They’re not a bunch of whiny brats ?? but the people who are complaining after the changes are whiny brats?
Earlier this year, I made a three hour monstrosity covering the history of Song of the South and Splash Mountain. At the very end of it, I said that despite the issues, maybe a Tiana ride done right can win favor with everyone and show that Disney can stay on the correct track. …. This video goes to show how foolish that optimism was. And it’s only gotten worse. Excellent video, mate!
Thanks for the deep dive! I was also so disappointed by this. It could have been something awesome--I don't understand why they budget cut something so major that could have easily been so much better.
It’s a really simple and silly-sounding explanation: they simply do not have the money to properly re-invest into the parks. It’s not like Disney is on the verge of bankruptcy or anything, but they’re objectively not doing too hot right now.
As a black person, I didn't think Splash Mountain was racist. Being honest, I think Disney saw that as an easy excuse when in reality they stopped caring about Splash Mountain. I seen so many videos of Splash Mountain's animatronics not working or the ride needing to be evacutated via in show exits. I think they just stopped caring about the ride entirely and decided changing it would be easier. I enjoyed Princess and the Frog, but I think they just did Tiana dirty. I saw a 360 Full Ride video and it looks like fun but feels so imcomplete. Like I thought it was a test ride when I first saw it. Tiana deserves a good full complete feeling ride like the other princesses. I fully thought we were going to get a villain scene. I don't understand Disney's thinking when it comes to characters they create only to complain about the character they created calling them insensitive, or unusable because of this. You guys created them! I just think or feel like they saw Tiana and her friends as a easy fix to problem and slapped her ride together 😔
I wonder…Splash was also breaking down a lot during its final days, with at least no fewer than 5 animatronics down at any given time. Is there something wrong with the mountain itself? Like the whole thing is busted all the way down to the bottom?
They just stopped maintaining it, because it was going to close. They intentionally stopped putting money and resources into keeping it running properly.
@@gthwl5166 Not sure what you’re on, dawg, but Splash Mountain could be operating with half its animatronics broken and it would still be better than what’s there now. Depressing? On what planet?
Splash Mountain has been my absolute favorite ride since I've been on it for the first time in 2009 (I was 8 years old), and this retheme ruined the MK for me, I legit don't want to go to this park anymore. I'm autistic, and Splash Mountain is a huge hyperfixation for me, and not because of the track, but because of the characters, songs and scenarios Heck, I didn't even knew about the existence of SOTS, and I still fell in absolute love with this ride A ride don't need a relevant IP to be loved, it needs to be GOOD, something that TBA isn't. The way Disney treated this entire project, absolutely trashing the Brers and other animals, pretending that they never even existed, is beyond disgusting. They left absolutely nothing for the fans. Not to mention that there was absolutely NO NEED to destroy BOTH Splash Mountains. This ride could've been a DL exclusive, and just give the WDW Splash a massive refurb (and maybe even an upgrade), both sides would've been happy like that, and we would have two different attractions to enjoy. They literally destroyed one of the most iconic rides ever made, and treat the fans and characters like trash, while also erasing James's and Nick's legacies. If the issue was SOTS, they could've very easily made a cartoon series of the Brers with the critters of Splash Mountain too, focusing on the lore of the ride, this could've easily removed their ties with SOTS while also making the characters "relevant" again, and the series could've been completely produced by black artists, since it's their folklore, they should be the ones telling these stories and bringing them to life but no, Disney decided to ruin two perfectly fine rides and completely erasing beloved characters. This company is trash, and the people in charge of it today have 0 respect for the companie's own history and legacy.
I got a hyperfixation on Splash too. And I feel your pain by a fucking MILE. Especially considering I rode both Splash Mountains in the US. The day Disneyland's Splash closed was the final time I ever saw Disney in even a remotely good light. I hope they continue losing everything and I hope they go out of business. That way, SOTS and Splash Mountain can be handled better by someone who cares. I'm also going to Tokyo Disneyland next year to ride the Splash Mountain there.
Funny you say that, because there was a pitch for a critter-only Splash cartoon. The booklet for it was sold through an auction not too long ago and the idea was super cute, where it was the main three in a "Jackass" style setup and a ton of other animals populated the world. It was created by someone who worked on a couple of the Disney afternoon cartoons. I want to say the idea rubbed off on the little plot in Disneyland Adventures, but that's speculation.
Not to mention the defenders of the retheme get unbelievably nasty when anyone gives praise to Splash or the Brer characters in any capacity, while simultaneously patting themselves on the back to show how not racist they are. Wow, you fixed racism by (list of real examples): -Saying James Baskett doesn't deserve recognition because he didn't have a _real_ Oscar that doesn't matter. -Having cast members openly shame anyone wearing Splash merch at the parks. -Telling an autistic person who likes the ride to off themselves for liking something you don't.
@@nyagaga That would've been fucking awesome. I hope that if Disney is ever cleaned out or goes out of business, that SOTS and Splash Mountain can be treated better.
@@A_A610 Their mentality is insanely backwards. For being defenders of another black-centric Disney property that also suffered its share of unwarranted criticism, you'd think they'd find some common ground. Doesn't help that Tiana's is insanely low budget and obviously a slapped on bandaid, making its fans look ridiculous. Personally I think the Tiana retheme could've turned out super cute and fun despite the circumstances, but Disney just drops the ball at every corner. When even Iger says it's boring, it's probably doomed for a huge chunk of its run.
The spirits of the B’rer are having their revenge 😈 For the record: I have no objections with Tiana having hew own stand alone ride. It’s just feels like a really low insult that they scalped splash mtn to do it. And, as if that weren’t already bad enough, they didn’t do right by the story: a story involving voodoo removes the voodoo ( their excuse for excluding Dr. Facilier), yet Mama Odie is somehow….NOT a voodoo priestess? Lots of cheap phoned in firefly effects, but no Ray and family. Booooo😒 Also, I’ve been to Louisiana: there are no tall trees OR MOUNTAINS in the bayou! NOLA is a BASIN BELOW sea level. That’s why Katrina was especially devastating to them. So how can they explain a drop? From where? That’s where voodoo can come in handy. I have not been, but I saw the poc Disney released, and. Bo-riiiing 🥱!!! All those camera cuts suggest long stretches of nothing. Sparse animatronics, weak story, where’s the adventure? In the meantime, I’m still looking for those “Tiana’s Evacuation Adventure” spoof t shirts I heard about online 🤭
It’s because they chose the most racist and tone deaf option they could manage: by having us start in a salt mine!! 🤪 I think your idea of summoning/creating a mountain with voodoo magic is brilliant! Such an easy way to incorporate the mountain while also adding the actual villain to the story!
13:51 the little simulation of what the Dr.Facilier themeing would be like was great! Would've totally stolen the show, got me so excited! Keep up the good work!
Now that would have been awesome. I'm not sure I wanna see animatronics of the humans but there's potential for the unicorns, gnomes and Bill Cipher himself to look really good in animatronic form. Plus Grunkle Stan's voice narrating the ride would probably be ideal for that unique Alex Hirsch humour. Holy shit I need a Gravity Falls themed ride.
This is such a good video!! I expected it to have more views. You did amazing covering the main historical aspects of this ride and the expectation vs reality and reasoning for the fan's disappointment :> Oh Disney... making theme parks less enjoyable... you pay more fore more faulty rides, longer times, deleting iconic staple rides, erasing disability accomodations, etc. Sigh
That reeks of some terrible executive decision. The Wizarding World over at Universal is packed because it features set pieces that look like ones from the popular film series. They didn't decide to theme it all on Fantastic Beasts because there was a spin off in the works they wanted to promote. No normal person would have been like 'yeah, lets theme it on something that doesn't even exist yet, that we don't know the quality or audience reception of'.
The animatronics look so beautiful and move so smooth! It’s a shame the ride glitches so badly! If they won’t find a way to fix that, the ride won’t become a new 'laughingplace'. Or ... it becomes a laughingplace in the case of laughing at ... 😢
This ride makes me sad... Also, i feel like its slightly racist for them to take the religion out of the ride and keep the VOODOO PRIESTESS character, but REMOVE HER TITLE. I feel like doing that alone might have cursed the ride. Being a fictional character doesn't change that doing that is suuuper bad.
TPM Vids is a youtube channel I watch that covers ride breakdowns, malfunctions and malfunctioning animatronics. Splash Mountain was its most frequent entry since the ride was old. When Splash Mountain closed we figured that was the end of it. But then Tiana's Bayou Adventure came and it might just replace Splash Mountain on the list in more ways then one.
@@RheaZenko Yeah, the American Splash Mountains were neglected really badly during their lifespan, especially during their later years. Which is a shame because the Tokyo version is so well taken care of in comparison. The US parks just don't have the same standards anymore.
Worst part is, Disney KNOWS they can get away with it. They can continue putting on mediocre stuff and people will still flood the parks. The same thing happens with the movies. All press is good press, at the end of the day.
Let’s the hope the one in Japan , only splash mountain in the world standing will stay! But knowing Japan and how they like being the first and only one in the world to have splash mountain they will keep it
The OLC technically owns the ride in Tokyo, not Disney. That doesn't mean the lunatics at Disney haven't tried to get them to re-theme, but it appears the OLC realizes they have a gem keeping this ride around and I'm sure it will stay for a while.
@@Edmundyu1995 The OLC are fighting to keep it safe. Disney technically can't do anything about it because they don't own it, thankfully. So hopefully it's here to stay for a good long while.
Japan doesn’t really have a problem with racism outcry and sanitising racism like the west does. The thing they have major censorship with is sexual themes and stuff like that, which is why you get so much fetish stuff from there.
When I got my new car, I made a point to go and visit WDW more. Splash mountain was (and still is) my favorite ride at MK. I’m still saddened it’s gone
Wow. After years of anticipation for this refurbishment, to say I am disappointed is a colossal understatement. Tiana is one of my favorite princesses, and Facilier is one of their best villains in recent memory. To scrub all traces of the film's plot from this ride is just...wow. I had been hoping to ride Tiana's Bayou in Anaheim this fall, but after seeing the news in Florida, I think I'll be taking a pass until they fix this disaster and give us the Tiana ride we DESERVE - hopefully this time with the Facilier drop-hill fans had expected!!
I hate that they didn’t use the villain from Tiana’s film….for the dumbest possible reason. So stupid. He was one of Disney’s best villains, and they’re acting like he doesn’t exist. Also that song “friends on the other side” always gives me chills. Also I don’t understand why they didn’t base this ride on the actual film. There could be a “shrinking” portion of the ride where everything becomes scaled up so we feel small, and they could’ve made the frog animatronics human sized, then had us “turn back into humans” alongside Tiana. Then show the beautiful wedding scene.
God this sucks for so many reasons but the main thing for me is that people are gonna blame this ride's malfunctions on Disney going "woke" instead of the actual technical problems. I'm so sick of companies letting stories/projects involving minorities flop and letting people blame it on the characters rather than their own faults. I'm tired of blackness being a scapegoat for someone else's failures (yet again).
As much as I hate the meaningless W word that gets thrown around, I think this retheme is the perfect example of a piece of media that was so engrossed in supposedly being culturally sensitive and inclusive that it not only forgets to do anything interesting beyond its shallow virtue signaling, it actually contradicts many of those virtues under the surface: -The original Uncle Remus stories Splash Mountain adapted are actual black folklore, while the original Frog Prince is a German fairy tale, but somehow the latter is considered more inclusive of black representation. -Princess and the Frog also had its own racial controversies when it came out, so why does it get a free pass when Splash Mountain was actively demonized for the same thing? -Why is a ride about being inclusive and welcoming of everyone a thrill ride with minimum height requirements and big scary drops that are inherently not inclusive of everyone? If Disney truly cared about the values they were signaling, they wouldn't have overhauled Splash Mountain with such a self-contradictory mess. It was just a convenient way to gaslight people into hating the original ride in order to better justify what they knew was gonna be an unpopular retheme.
I really appreciate this deep dive into it. It just feels like a lack of attention to detail and care in Igerland now. I'll just go to Dollywood. Especially since its a couple hours away😆
Due to the short clip of music used in my version of the drop scene with Dr. Facilier, and the fact that I refuse to cut it out of the video... I just have to note that every penny made from this video goes directly to... Disney! 😆
"I'm going to Dollywood."
Disney: "And I took that [ITWC's money] personally."
The rich getting richer 😔
they really never let anything slip…
If only that was the ride we got instead :(
I had a very similar idea and I'm glad to find someone who agrees
This is honestly what I imagined when they announced they were making the ride 😢
Eventually the ride op came and walked us over to the exit, and it was cool to see the last couple scenes up close, plus we got a free one-time fast pass for any ride in the park
Actually, you could utilize this effect on purpose very effectively. Have the ride stop suddenly and have dim "emergency lights" come on, wait a couple beats, have one of the animatronics start moving so slow you think you're going insane, then it lunges just as the ride starts moving again. Get the lighting right and you gonna need to pay someone to wipe the pissy seats down every ride 😂
i NEED a horror theme park if someone built that my life would be theirs
@mantisr818 where was this?? That sounds horrifying
It's a shame it feels like disney is less about impressing customers anymore now it's just what they can get away with
Surely seems that way lately...
It's definitely more fair than a park nowadays

The tastes of the customer play a part as well. People keep coming and spending and being ok with less.
At least it not splash mountain anymore disney is screwed
Yikes he wasn't supposed expose these secrets
Ugh.. they should've still continued with just the movie being turned into a ride.

Pocahontas and the lion king wouldnt make sense in Frontierland or new Orleans square
@@crosswalkX Honestly not trying to start a fight here but do you know that the Jungle Cruise movie is inspired FROM the 1955 original ride?

@dogman15 i hope they keep this park as is. It should be a historical landmark.
The only reason I can think of why they didn't include the Shadow Man was probably because he dies at the end of the film and this ride is supposed to be long after the film's conclusion when Tiana finally opens her business with Naveen
However that doesn't really make sense if they still have the Shadow Man as an interactive park character
Then again they have plenty of other villains still shown... oh well! It def was a missed opportunity :[
@MiiPunchy Disney has brought numerous villains back that have less supernatural prowess than him, so it doesn’t make sense, no matter how you slice it :(
ORR theres an item that can be used for something bringing him back from the dead-
@MiiPunchy Here's something: I have hung out with Baxter a couple of times and he's told me that the original plan was to have Tiana's be a re-telling of the original film, complete with Shadow man and all.
Sure he may have died in the movie, but he could always come back as a ghost haunting the bayou.
This really shows on how Disney is falling short on the quality of their parks while their main competition is building something EPIC down the street.

It seems they didn’t learn from the subnautica voyage, more electric doesn’t mean good. More when ya know, humidity and water
And they broke down often!
So they sacrificed a good system for a bad one when they wanted to do the opposite.....surprise!
In Disney's defense, if there were a lot of simple animatronics in Tiana's, people would've flipped and called it cheap.

The intro was absolutely fantastic in showing how silly this has gotten. Thank you for assuring the majority of us that we aren’t going insane lol
Glad you enjoyed it!
YES I WANTED TO HEAR KEITH DAVID SOOOO BAD
Is Keith David Chef from South Park?
They probably don’t want to be associated with Hazbin, or he’s just really busy
I mean they could have had it so that he made a new deal with his “friends” to get revenge. An easy fix and would have added a bit more life. Plus more Keith David is never a bad thing.
I'd imagine they're wanting to save him for the Disney Villains land they're wanting to put together.
The ghost of Splash Mountain haunts Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
I can feel it too through the videos I’ve seen.
i just found out magic kingdom leaves all the park's lights on even when the guests are sleeping in their resorts
maybe they do this so the ghosts of removed attractions don't possess anything
Good riddance
Yes, the ghost of Joel Chandler Harris got his black friends to haunt the ride.
@@theavatarprincessprime i think the ghosts of splash mountain are responsible for the ride breaking down when it first opened to guests
I'm not surprised it had so many issues. Given that the older rides that got upgrades continued to fail, this being more tech heavy was just asking for problems.
Indeed.
Disney World used to be the most magical place on Earth. Now it's a wallet-breaking crapshoot that people still glorify because they're in denial.
Nostalgia is one hell of a drug
Not to mention that Ron DeSantis is fighting it over something considerably irrelevant to the public.
Look on the bright side, Disney's refusal to include Facilier to avoid references to religion at least means we won't get a sucky live action remake of this film.

If anything it makes the prospect of an even crappier live action look all too possible

His origins can be traced back to Africa with different variations of the character. Sure SOTS has aged poorly, but the Brer characters shouldn’t be erased due to their association with one film.

Oh, cool! I did not know this.

It's weird a ride made in the 80's? 70's? Has less breakdowns than something made today.
You guys are annoying whiny brats 😂

Just did a HUGE disservice to Tiana and Splash
They never considered the atmosphere. So focused on the technology.
Thanks for watching! I agree.
It’s a really simple and silly-sounding explanation: they simply do not have the money to properly re-invest into the parks.
It’s not like Disney is on the verge of bankruptcy or anything, but they’re objectively not doing too hot right now.
I remember reading a comment somewhere that the anticipation of waiting for the ride to break down was more exciting than the drop
You would think they would have looked into that during the refurb, but it doesn't look like they did, lol!
They just stopped maintaining it, because it was going to close. They intentionally stopped putting money and resources into keeping it running properly.
"when i have the money for a theme park ticket, im going to dollywood" real af for that
From Splash to Trash.
😆
So, so, so true XD
damn
splash mountain was depressing and falling apart what are you on
@@gthwl5166 Not sure what you’re on, dawg, but Splash Mountain could be operating with half its animatronics broken and it would still be better than what’s there now. Depressing? On what planet?
Splash Mountain has been my absolute favorite ride since I've been on it for the first time in 2009 (I was 8 years old), and this retheme ruined the MK for me, I legit don't want to go to this park anymore.
I'm autistic, and Splash Mountain is a huge hyperfixation for me, and not because of the track, but because of the characters, songs and scenarios
Heck, I didn't even knew about the existence of SOTS, and I still fell in absolute love with this ride
A ride don't need a relevant IP to be loved, it needs to be GOOD, something that TBA isn't.
If the issue was SOTS, they could've very easily made a cartoon series of the Brers with the critters of Splash Mountain too, focusing on the lore of the ride, this could've easily removed their ties with SOTS while also making the characters "relevant" again, and the series could've been completely produced by black artists, since it's their folklore, they should be the ones telling these stories and bringing them to life
but no, Disney decided to ruin two perfectly fine rides and completely erasing beloved characters.
Wow, you fixed racism by (list of real examples):
-Saying James Baskett doesn't deserve recognition because he didn't have a _real_ Oscar that doesn't matter.
Man, what happened to Disney? How did we go from Claude Frollo to “we want nothing to do with religious themes”
They got wimpy
The spirits of the B’rer are having their revenge 😈
For the record: I have no objections with Tiana having hew own stand alone ride. Booooo😒
Also, I’ve been to Louisiana: there are no tall trees OR MOUNTAINS in the bayou!
POV not poc!!! Ugh, duck you autocorrect, I’m so sick of your shirt!!!!
Thanks so much! 💖
My friend said he would much rather have this rethemed to gravity falls. I couldn’t agree more
Now that would have been awesome.
I loved Splash Mountain. It was my first Disney ride. But dang, those animals were tired.
🤣
This is such a good video!! I expected it to have more views. You did amazing covering the main historical aspects of this ride and the expectation vs reality and reasoning for the fan's disappointment :> Oh Disney... making theme parks less enjoyable... you pay more fore more faulty rides, longer times, deleting iconic staple rides, erasing disability accomodations, etc. Sigh
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 💖
That friends on the otherside scene with the drop you overlaid gave me chills. Would have been perfect!! So sad
This video gives really a rare balanced view on both Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Great!
i love how your first video is on amberlynn and then this one is on disney parks, it’s like my fav niches
I'm glad I'm not the only one with such random interests. 🤣
Lmfao
Disney Gorl. 😌
It’s amazing how Disney continues to screw up with the most basic of things.
Disney sees dollar signs when they should be seeing a storyline…
2:47 Why is Tiana A-Posinggggg 😂 she glitched out
The like amount was a jumpscare. I was not expecting that! This was a very well put together informative video. Here before this blows up!
But knowing Japan and how they like being the first and only one in the world to have splash mountain they will keep it
I don't think that one is going anywhere.
Hm yes, good idea lets put electronic animatronics in a damp, wet, humid ride.
great video! I think you summed it up perfectly and I rly appreciate all the research you included
Thanks so much! 🙏
All I can say is that it's a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-DON'T.
it’s also a zip-a-dee-doo-not.
@@thebottomtextAHAHAHAHA
I can understand wanting to step away from Song of the South... but it's not like they couldn't AFFORD to make a better ride revamp. Did Tiana dirty.
When I got my new car, I made a point to go and visit WDW more. Splash mountain was (and still is) my favorite ride at MK. I’m still saddened it’s gone
I´ll riot if they dare touch the Tiki Room.
I predict there will be a jenny nicholson video on this in about a year
Please add subtitles, I really like your channel but I'm from Portugal and I would like to understand more of what you say
Brer Rabbit is laughing at Iger's Bayou Folly.
It bothered me how much they tried to market all these animals, giving them names and stories. Why do we care as an audience?
With how weirdly charged this topic has become, this is actually a pretty great overview of the situation.
Dude, imagine the masks replacing the vultures and brer fox’s shadow being replaced by facilier’s shadow…. All in anticipation for the big drop
Storyline-wise, they made it for little kids, who are NOT THE ATTRACTION'S TARGET
It’s the splash mountain curse!
As much as I hate the meaningless W word that gets thrown around, I think this retheme is the perfect example of a piece of media that was so engrossed in supposedly being culturally sensitive and inclusive that it not only forgets to do anything interesting beyond its shallow virtue signaling, it actually contradicts many of those virtues under the surface:
-The original Uncle Remus stories Splash Mountain adapted are actual black folklore, while the original Frog Prince is a German fairy tale, but somehow the latter is considered more inclusive of black representation.
Oh
This made me more sad than I thought it would.
This video especially at the beginning is heart breaking.
Also...the Charlotte animatronics face scares me😂
Disney’s first black princess deserves better than this
15:43 oh my gosh…the shade. I can’t 😂😂
🤣
Well that sucks. I wonder what excuse they'll come up with when people stop queueing up for the ride
Don't ask questions, just consume product, then get excited for next product.
I really appreciate this deep dive into it. It just feels like a lack of attention to detail and care in Igerland now. I'll just go to Dollywood. Especially since its a couple hours away😆
