Sometimes you watch deleted scenes and think "aw man, that wouldve been cool to add, oh that makes sense!" Rarely do you see a bunch of deleted scenes and think "oh so theres the movie"
I think we can infer who won the "Corporate cynicism not wanting to take any risks vs the creative drive of a team of talented, non-unionized artists" battle here
It's crazy that they had a problem with star boy being do much like genie yet they didn't have a problem of ripping off Nintendo with the Lumas especially the fact it's literally released the same year as the Mario Movie
How Disney see the problem in DISNEY CHARACTER being similiar to ANOTHER DISNEY CHARACTER? Like I could understand if they worried Star Boy is to similiar to Jack Frost because he is from another rival studio, but Genie? Wth Disney?
Asha and Starboy’s romance could have been a PERFECT callback to Disney’s classic true love’s kiss trope. But no we had have a plushie with Mickey’s face…
@@CarrieTooTired i honestly wanted and expected magnifico to be freed from the curse with a true love's kiss by the queen, like in the beauty and the beast 😭
Disney has developed an allergy to romance. They haven't made a proper love story since Tangled 14 years ago. Not every movie needs a romance, but goddamn, i am starving for a warm fuzzy Disney love story.
@@b1_1nnies sure, it can be great without it, but it also can be great *with* it. If the time duration between now and the last time we had a fuzzy Disney romance is twice the age of the intended audience, there's something wrong. His reason is also logical, do you really want to grant every wish? Do the writers know not every wish is good? What if somebody wish for a genocide/war? 🤔
yeah, there was nothing about his system that was a cover for his selfish desires. maybe wishes can be done by others but he gatekeeps it to get all the attention? maybe he made a sacrifice or thinks he did and believes everyone should be grateful without asking. maybe he keeps the star captured and pretends it's his magic. so many possibilities
It should've been so simple making him a "true old school Disney villain". Just make him grant wishes that make his status and kingdom better. Planning an invasion of his original home, being the thief that destroyed it but was stopped. How hard is it to be Jack Horner or Jafar?! Jafar has no motivation, no backstory, nothing. He just wants power and yet he's one of the most memorable and enjoyable villains despite being very one note.
Tbh i think they should've made ashas arc like a reversal of tianas, where tiana had to learn that she could rely on other people, asha has to learn to rely on herself. Instead of relying on magnifico to make her and her loved ones' wishes come true, she learns that she can strive to make them come true on her own
I can definitely see that as an arc 💕 It’s a pretty good lesson and plays into Magnifico’s reliance on magic!! As James would say “…that old star can only take you part of the way. You got to help him with some hard work of your own. And then... Yeah, you can do anything you set you mind to.”
@@CarrieTooTired Imagine having such a good message in that film, only to completely miss it so badly here. I feel like Disney is offensively trying to pander to Gen Alpha, who they assume are lazy, entitled, spoiled, whiny brats who have never seen a single day of strife, want everything handed to them, and don't understand the meaning of earning something. Just like Asha. Asha is literally how Disney sees its target audience, and that really makes me angry.
Disney taking away a love story because woman can't rely on man while making a young girl rely on a much older man to get her grampa's wish 😐 A man who could you know? Take full advantage of her because she trust him so much
They could have had their cake and ate it too with Starboy. Make him have his human form at night when he shines brightest or whatever, and then have the chibi marketable plushie version during the day when he is conserving power. Then you could keep a lot of the chemistry and humor with their interactions and have the design that kids will love and buy merch of.
That's the thing. Being a corrupted capitalist is one thing and being a STUPID corrupted capitalist is another. NOBODY would've been dissatisfied with this choice, people wouldn't even see the marketable plushie as Disney being greedy and buy more of them to have their own starboy
It's really sad when you think Suzume did a verrry similar thing just a few months prior with Souta and the chair. It had been PROVEN to work as a formula!
Starboy could have been Disney's ROTG Jack Frost but they decided to throw that away for ROTG Sandman and I don't really know why. It's so disappointing.
Wish is the PERFECT example of creative people trying to make something genuinely amazing, but then the business people in suits who's thoughts only consist of money and narcicism come in and ruin the whole thing 'cause they're the ones with all the decision-power
"What can we ever do to repay you, Star?" (Star turns directly to the camera and speaks for the first time in the movie) "Purchase Disney products!" (everyone cheers and claps)
@@PlatinumAltaria honestly the answer feels like a slap in the face to Disney’s audience “Just keep wishing” Kinda like a dream on response to what their audience actually wants. Its pretty hilarious yet sad how large Starboy’s fanbase is comparison to Wish itself
You know you f*ucked up when you could’ve had a love interest AND a marketable plushie, they’re not mutually exclusive all Disney renaissance movies have both- but instead we got a corporate mute sidekick and an annoying useless sidekick 💀, With them being non-human and her friends and family being as shallow as a puddle it seems Asha has no relationships going on WHATSOEVER 😂
Also, if they were so afraid to give their strong female protagonist a love interest again, then why not have them be the best of friends. We need more platonic relationships between boys and girls expressed in animated movies. They can be soulmates, like people with twin souls, that are meant to be. I mean, especially if he is supposed to represent her wish, he's like a part of her soul.
@@brendathevehicon because the city IS empty in many of the scenes where the main characters aren’t at the center of, giving this feeling that the world of Wish revolves around a small group of people. If Asha sings a song about herself instead of Rosas, there’s no need for villagers to hang around doing daily chores as they’re just visual flare, compared to the city life in Rapunzel yes, Rosas is like a “cuckoo clock kingdom” where life is seen only at certain times. You’re not alone 😭😭
The power of friendship saved the day, and rapunzel magic tears healed Flynn, and-and all the pokemon's crying saved Ash Ketchum (I don't like that trope)
@@monoduck I love the magic of friendship trope, but only when it's done RIGHT. In MLP it's kinda the point for obvious reasons, but in other shows it often gets corny and cheesy, not to mention an ass pull.
A friend and I were like what if Asha and Magnifico sang it while looking at the city. With Magnificos part later you notice its more when its himself focused areas of the city, and Asha is more on the people of Rosas and how much she cares for them and their dreams too. If you wanted to keep it a magnifico and asha duet ofc and then reprise with starboy damit. But gosh a lullaby wouldve been so precious ❤
Plus, ASHA WAS NEVER TOLD NO. She wasn't- like it happened once and she's acting like it's been her whole life. THIS is why changing her backstory to not being the Kings daughter makes everything really bad. Like, it's like if you took a bunch of pages of a book and remixed them.
@@MakDivision for real though. It makes me so upset and it feels like something was stolen from me. We need a petition for Disney to remake it AS IT SHOULDVE BEEN MADE
So you’re telling me that this movie has 7 shoehorned-in best friends to directly reference the 7 dwarves and countless other deliberate references to established Disney characters, and Starboy being too much like Genie was just unacceptable for some reason?
Well, Disney should hire you BECAUSE of this video! You didn't just say "I don't like it!" You gave a detailed and intelligent critique! Walt would hire you, but Bob just wants yes-men, so here we are! Great video! I enjoyed it!
Disney would probably just hire an assassin if they wanted to. They have enough money to get away with murder with a slap on the wrist. If Fazbear Entertainment could do it, then so can Disney.

it baffles me that they cut starboy because he was "too close to genie" like you'd think that wouldn't be a bad thing in a movie that's literally filled with references to other disney movies
Asha says “if the wishes are bad we can stop them” but there’s never a moment where the wishes aren’t portrayed as the best and most magical thing in the world, and there’s never a moment where she gets challenged on her beliefs, where someone says that they got their wish granted, but realized that they didn’t need it to be happy
Fr nobody in this movie learned anything during the course of this. There was an amazing setup for Cynicism and laziness ruining the pure idealism Magnifico once had. Instead we got 'I love magic because it gives me stuff then I can give you stuff too!' which is literally how Magnifico got where he was in the first place!
They should've used that to teach her a lesson tbh. At first she thinks everyone deserves their wish and turns against Magnifico thinking he's in the wrong by being selective but then realizes after granting all the wishes that he was right, the kingdom is a mess because most of the wishes are rubbish or even harmful, people are unhappy, etc. At that point she has to ask for Magnifico's help to fix what she caused and learns that you have to be careful what you wish for or someting like that
@lunalluna9401 That would have made a lot more sense. Magnifico is shown to be cautious about the types of wishes he grants and concerned about unintended consequences. There is probably a reason for that. Magnifico is a powerful sorcerer who earned his magic through rigorous study and who has been granting wishes for generations while ruling over a utopian kingdom he built from the ground up. Asha, the 17 year old girl who grew up in the kingdom Magnifico built, doesn't even consider the possibility that he might know what he's talking about. It should have been a lesson in humility. Something similar to the sorcerer's apprentice.
@@lunalluna9401 A good film would have taught both of them something. She is clearly not being selective enough but perhaps Magnifico is being a little too selective. Perhaps paranoia, or just time cause he's also the king. Her mistake makes things better for 5 seconds before spiraling down. She changes her mind and agrees with his idea in being selective, but perhaps pulls one thing out of her attempt that she did right, which Magnifico acknowledges. Maybe he should get multiple apprentices so there is enough time to parse wishes and give people a second chance in a few years or smtn. Hell they could go for fan service and make one of those new apprentices a little girl who resembles the godmother from Cinderella.

He would have been Amaya's Starman, to Asha's Starboy. The synergy was even stronger than we ever thought possible... Amaya and Asha's names being so similar, Magnifico was Amaya's corrupted wish, it's... aah, they could have had a renaissance era quality Disney movie in their hands here. They had it and let it go to waste...
My friend said he had to take his kids to Stone Cold Creamery to cheer them up, his daughter was close to tears by sheer boredom. If you can disappoint kids who adore Disney, you done goofed on your film.
Ya know, Disney could have kept star boy while still having him be a ‘mime’ character. Think of how much more impactful his transformations would have been if they were his primary way of communicating. It could also combine Peter Pan with tinker bell slightly by having this silly boyish character with exaggerated movements and facial expressions to convey what he’s thinking.
And it would've been an easy way to satisfy their narcistic needs of squeezing in useless references, by having him shapeshift into some of the characters.
Asha should have been the princess. Where the villains actually do care about their daughter and are prepping her as a powerful evil sorceress but she learns to use magic for good. It should have been Asha and Starboy vs the king and queen. Imagine the inner conflicts between them. Parents vs child, power or family bonds, true love vs family love. It would have been glorious!
Man, seeing the deleted scenes made me straight up sad because how good and much potential they showed. I wanted THAT movie! I wanted Starboy, a main lead who isn't another 'uwu quirky girl', a villain couple, a final act with the villain turning into a monster! Seriously, I wanna slap the person who stepped in and was like, "Nah, let's strip all that away and instead make it generic as hell.'
Dude, same! The idea of a love story with a shapeshifting Jack Frost looking starboy would’ve been such a huge hit among the young crowd, but noooo! Hell, they would’ve been able to sell those dumb plushies better had they still have starboy! This could’ve been a love story that was on the same level as Tangled. Corporate meddling had to ruin everything! 🙃
YEAH!! To be honest, I think it's valid of Disney to be moving away from romance being the main focus of their films. But since Wish is meant to be a homage to the classic Disney movies then THEY SHOULD'VE ADDED THE ROMANCE!!! Starboy seemed like he would've been a pretty fun character and I would've loved to see his dynamic with the more timid Asha. THEIR RELATIONSHIP COULD'VE BEEN SO CUTE DISNEY WHY 😭😭😭
Im still mad that they messed up the King and Queen. We could have had a villian power couple with the mannerisms of Morticia and Gomez Addams and Disney took it away from us.
My question is. Why couldn't Starboy been a human, shapeshifter, AND mute. Humans don't have to talk. It would've separated him from genie, if that's what they were worried about. It could even be a callback to the little mermaid, SINCE THEY LOVE THEIR CALLBACKS, THEY COULD'VE LEANED INTO THAT. Imagine the potential of a mute magical character speaking through so many magical means. A call back to kiss the girl, maybe??? (like Asha falls first and wants to express it to him but can't for whatever reason, and he wants to tell her he likes her too but doesn't really know what to do about love because he's not use to being a human, etc etc) What if Magnifico captured Starboy and locked him down?? what if they inverted the damsel in distress trope with that?? The lack of human Star, as well as "this song can be applied to any situation so it can be played on the radio" songs, shows that the "heart" of this movie is just a money bag.
just imagine how adorable it would’ve been if asha sang to him and then at the end of it he started humming the melody under his breath with a cute lil smile and then they kissed WAAAHHHHHH
Starboy couldn't be a starboy because Disney hates romance. They spent a decade mocking all their old romantic movies and acting like women hate romance. It started pretty early, but I give Frozen the blame for being the first movie where Disney's only takeaway was: okay people hate romance. Let's never have that ever again.
I normally can’t stand shoehorned romantic plots and “soul mates” but star boy just seems so FUN! Like, Genie or Jack Frost or NIMONA! The worst part? Disney could’ve given us Starboy and Star so we could’ve had a fun character AND a plushie because he’s literally a SHAPESHIFTER!

It really speaks volumes when their significantly smaller side production, "Once Upon A Disney" which is basically a glorified tour guide of the entire Disney history with all of their animated characters both 2D and 3D appearing in it, served as an infinitely better 100 year anniversary celebrating their legacy than "Wish" ever was. It's genuinely baffling how hard they fumbled the bag with this one
@@rattyeely the so-called "love letter" served as a cheap distraction to prepare us for the godawful abomination that was Wish. These films, all the hard work, none of it truly mattered in the grand scheme of things because they were never meant to tell a story. They were meant to make money. Money that the actual talented creators will never receive because the higher ups have leverage against them.

Aurora and Tiana have less screen time but more dresses 🫠 even from a non-merchandise perspective wouldn’t it just be fun to have pretty dresses and transformations???
They did the same thing with the live action Ariel. They actually improved Jasmine’s wardrobe when they did the remake, but Ariel gets one just okay dress. Removed a lot of the magic.
it’s crazy to me that they had an idea for a romance and scrapped it. if this was truly a love letter to disney fantasy princess movies, why would they not have a romance like all the classic fantasy princess movies? ((also there hasn’t been a main disney romance in forever))

Somethings I'd Change: 1. Asha is Magnifico & Amaya's daughter 2. Star Boy. 3. King Magnifico is a fallen star. 4. At all costs was the lullaby they sang to Asha. 5. Asha WAS her parents Wish. 6. The story is a love story, both romantic and familia. 7. An external threat causes Amaya and Magnifico to be evil but it as spawned from wanting to protect people. 8. Asha using At all costs to remind her corrupted parents of their love for their daughter. 9. Star boy plays a major role and works to fix things with Asha. At All costs lyric Change can be a transformation of the song from a lullaby of her parents to a love ballad. 10. Amaya and Magnifico return to normal and they work together to save Rosas.
they didn't want starboy to be too powerful compared to asha by being able to transform into anything--and yet a movie like nemona doesn't seem to have this problem, despite her literally turning into a kaiju in the end. Anyway what I'm saying is nemona is just good wish

"he was too much like genie" ah cool so the already heavily self-referential centennial movie could have had a character inspired by one who is very possibly disneys biggest icon ever after mickey while still keeping him faily distinguishable by making his role in the story different... and we thought this was a _bad_ idea
I honestly feel bad for king magnifico. He was Literally the hero of the story until he just randomly got possessed. Also, when he got sucked into the staff in the end, doesn't that mean he got out of being possessed? Yet the queen didn't try to figure out if he was still possessed or not and just locked him up? The person she loved for years??? This movie Gave me almost as much of a headache as the end of "orion and the dark" on Netflix 😑
About to be so for real, wouldn’t the wife be able to tell he wasn’t possessed anymore. When the wife saw him in the mirror, wouldn’t see notice that he didn’t have that green glow in his eyes anymore? He literally wasn’t evil enough, he had to be possessed to be considered a villain.
His eyes reverted when the wishes were taken away so I’m assuming that means they broke the spell, but I think the queen’s intentions got lost somewhere in the finale so disney basically uncooked their relationship altogether 😭 I think Magnifico using dark magic bc of his paranoia is an interesting direction, but I think the 0 - 100 jump to evil was too simplistic for a villain that’s “not a twist villain” 🫠

yeah its really bizarre. Most disney concept art pales in comparison to the final product, like with Frozen. But with Wish, the concept art looks like they had the potential for something good, it just needed more polish. But the movie ends up looking poorly developed, like they pulled every trope from the disney guide and didn’t do anything new or interesting with it. Also, the movie just reeks of corporate. Aisha being the rapunzel-esque adorkable get-getter heroine, the “follow your dreams” and “believe in yourself” mantra, the pop songs, and the villain being reduced to a cackling mustache curling baddie because the writers couldn’t think of a way to prove him wrong so they just made him go crazy.
You know, they could've had star boy shape shift into little star from time to time. That way, they could've had a great character and a marketable plushie. Like, when Star boy needs to lie low, he could've shapeshifted to little star.
They don't want the boy. They wanted Asha to girlboss her way through the movie and she can't do that if there is a man in her life. Same reason they got rid of the villain power couple because they can't have the woman in power having faults.
FR like at daytime he may need to recharge or dosent shine as bright so he's in the star form, and at night, when he shines brightest he's in his human form
Ironically, Puss in Boots:The Last Wish actually had way more references to fairytales and Disney callbacks without being too annoying about it. Magic nanny bag, poison apples, walking broom, Jiminy Cricket, heck even a cameo of Cinderella’s glass slipper, all present and were fun Easter Eggs to find. Bonus for Perrito being the ‘animal sidekick’ that is actually developed well and doesn’t detract from the scene like Valentino the goat did. Plus, MAGIC WISHING STAR being front and focus and shows off its immense power even without granting a single wish. So failure on Wish right there. And I do love the shoutout to Trolls 3 😂 That movie played with nostalgia (early American boy bands) much better and had a banger soundtrack that still lives for free in my brain (and I don’t even charge it rent 😉). While I’m more into the protagonists than Velvet and Veneer, I do love how ‘extra’ they are as villains and their spaghetti body designs allows a lot of room for creativity and expression. The viewer can also see how much more impactful their actions have on the characters. Along with the obvious height difference, there’s such a coldness with Velvet whenever she steals Floyd’s and the other’s essence and displays such a blatant disregard for them every time she interacts with them. Excess shaking, overusing the spray, amused when they attempt to bargain for their release, she’s really a despicable character and is soooo vain and selfish 😂 That’s the level of horridness King Magnifico needed to be! Honestly, if one were to pit Velvet and King Magnifico together, she would totally wipe the floor with him verbally and he probably wouldn’t be a able to get a spell in cause she would steal whatever is available and easy to grab and take him by surprise. 😂
@@nairocamilo not surprising. There’s quite a few films I passed on the first time around that ended up being great to watch. I blame bad trailers mainly for that. If one is not into the ‘Trolls’ franchise, yeah it can be difficult to muster up the desire to watch the movies/shows, especially when it’s been (unfavorably) memed out as something that’s “too silly and childish” to take seriously. Fortunately for me, I was so mad at DreamWorks marketing and myself for not seeing movies like Megamind, How to Train Your Dragon, and Rise of the Guardians in theaters that from “The Croods” onwards I vowed to see every DW movie in theaters. And yes, I have stuck to that rule and that’s how my friend and I ended up seeing “Trolls” while in college and surrounded by families with kids everywhere 😂 we have since watched the next two movies together and she indulges in my crazy theories and world building head cannons 😅
I love the fanmade rewrites, animatics and songs so much. I'm proud of what art thrives when an entire community agrees that the original/old drafts of Wish have so much potential and they go and make it for fun, and FOR FREE. Take that, evil corporate execs!
I think we need to get a bunch of talented artists to created a 2d-animated "fan" re-creation of Wish to give audiences the version that the audience was robbed of.
What’s disappointing is Disney has PROVEN the can mix mediums before. I think they just got lazy and rushed the whole thing just so they can CALL it a 100th Anniversary movie and rake in those nostalgia dollars.
@@therealopaartist Disney was very diligent in playing it as safe as possible, and in doing so they created their magnum opus in mediocrity. The creative team really should've stuck to their guns and made the movie they originally wanted to create, even if it would've taken longer. As an old man once said, "You can't rush art."
A lot of people say that from the basic concepts utilized for the story this could have never worked but I've MLP projects (both official & fan made) make these ideas work in less than 1h.
Yeah it definitely felt like a story that was rewritten a lot and needed more time to be workshopped 🫠 in a world where wish didn’t have the burden of being “the big d100 project,” wish could’ve taken some risks that would’ve paid off given the general conversation surrounding it
If they truly didn’t want a love story, just don’t have them kiss. They can have their song, which could technically fit as friends, and everybody and their grandmother would fight online about if they were romantic or not, which is a brilliant ploy for engagement. Like Bruno.
It’s crazy how this was supposed to be such a great movie that would be memorable for years to come but instead became something people will find forgettable and ignore for years to come. 😭
I honestly was on Magnifico’s side for the entire movie and he didn’t even get super evil to me? He like actually did a lot for the town and also Asha was dead wrong for immediately trying to get something from him. Also he is hot.
Like, yeah, he was bad and all. But the worst thing he did was use wishes for power- he never even tried to kill anyone. Disney has lost their balls when it comes to dark content. (and I agree that he's hot)
he had a really good reason to be that protective and the punishment he got was really unproportional. they are so used to making twist villains that they kind of... forgot how to make a classic evil for evils sake villain? then tried to apply the rules of a traditional villain on a character who was easily redeemable
Disney is sooooo obsessed with the “adorkable independent girl’s girl who don’t need no man” and it’s kinda sad because we need a good romance every once in a while, we can have a character who is independent and confident and also have a romance!!!!
Ok heres my hot take: I see people being glad they got rid of starboy because the romance would've been "too cliché". Ok then! In that case, why couldn't they have kept starboy but just make their bond _platonic??_ It could've been just as powerful, and been _even more_ subversive. Like guy and girl with a deep meningful bond thats not romantic? Wouldn't that be cool! But no, apparently its sooo much more unique to have star be uh... A fucking plushy? 🙄
The fact that we could have had a renaissance of a Jack Frost type character through the Starboy in the 2020s is Disney’s most egregious crime right next to its first villain couple. Wish had all the makings to be an amazing film but corporate meddling, keeping up with trends, and trying to copy and paste Encanto’s success killed it.
I really hope they fire Jennifer Lee as the creative head. She's clearly not as talented as they thought and the fact that she insulted traditional animation is so bad.
Jennifer Lee got too much credit for writing Frozen, she didn’t even create Elsa-which by the way is the reason why Frozen is so successful. Her writing is subpar and full of plotholes at best and when they give her too much creative control, thats when things go bad. She’s responsible for the atrocious writing of Wish, Frozen 2, and Wreck it ralph 2
@@Nopeasaurussame! I legit have never understood why Frozen became so popular, especially when you read into the original concept of Elsa as a full blown villain, and I’m pretty sure she wasn’t even related to Anna either. One song alone is NOT nearly enough to completely change a story to revolve around a single character. The movie isn’t even close to the actual novel of the Snow Queen, who only appears in like two chapters of the entire book. Frozen 2 was so much worse imo, considering the “fifth spirit” plot originally had a very interesting concept with a mysterious deer spirit, similar to the deer spirit in Princess Mononoke.
@@notapplicable6985 that doesn’t change Frozen was still an adaptation of said book, even the villain is named after the author. And to be fair, Elsa was fully intended to be the villain when the story was being written, but when Let it Go was composed, Disney got greedy and thought they could make a lot more money by making Elsa a protagonist instead, and changing the story of having sisterly love instead, giving us two Disney Princesses instead of one. For both Frozen movies they had heavy alternative stories, especially the second one where we actually got to explore Iduna and Agnar’s relationship, and who exactly the fifth spirit was (not Elsa btw) but also the second movie originally planned to have Arendelle destroyed by the dam collapsing as a consequence of their grandfather’s prejudice against the Northoldra people and trying to force them to bow to his rule in Arendelle
They missed a HUGE opportunity to wow us with gorgeous constellation visuals, you know...Actually using the theme of stars and space? Wish is so visually boring it hurts; everyone knows how stunningly beautiful the night sky is with no pollution, there's no love, no flavor, everything is so flat.
The cut scene you missed is on RUclips. It shows how much of an ACTUAL villain Magnifico could have been! And how much chemistry him and Amaya had, not only as a couple but also as a villain. AND HE TRIES TO STEAL A FREACKING STAR ON THAT SCENE AND TRIES TO EACH A COUPLE OF WISHES LIKE IT WAS NOTHING!!! I'm..... so disappointed at Disney...
I actually saw it a few days ago, their evil villain dynamic was delicious!! also stealing a star is definitely more creative than using a magic green book for sure
@CarrieTooTired definitely! It also makes Magnifico a bigger threat and links him and Amaya to the main characters in a natural way. It gives the story higher stakes, especially for starboy, making the end of the movie much more believable. There's an animatic made by Ariel Samuel about the end, where they put star boy in. It fixed the whole scene and complimented the song in a much better way!
@@luizaraposo2320 Stealing a star also doesn’t take away Magnifico’s agency as a character like an evil book possessing him does. The first one is an active choice he made to gain unimaginable power, but the second one seems to happen to him like he’s Gollum drawn to his “precious,” which could still be really interesting but the devil’s in the details and there was virtually no progression getting him from “well-meaning leader who wants to do right by his kingdom” to “power-hungry, mustache-twirling supervillain.” In the end I kind of felt bad for him getting locked up in the mirror when as far as I was aware, he was a good king made the victim of a magical curse. The same could be said for Gollum and getting possessed by the ring but at least he actually did truly heinous things to justify being a villain but all Magnifico did was make a few people sad, I guess? Honestly, King Triton acted more villainous than him when he trashed Ariel’s grotto (and he’s not supposed to be a villain).
@colbystearns5066 That's a really good point! It felt to me that they put the book part cause they didn't have a good excuse to make him a villain, and there wasn't enough time in the movie. Idk. It just felt lazy and unfair. For me, it actually makes the queen look like a twist villain who took the opportunity to get the throne just for her.
@@luizaraposo2320It’s fascinating how Queen Amaya was originally meant to be a villain, then was turned into a hero but they forgot to take out the parts where she’s scheming like a villain with the frickin’ magic hand oil(!!!). I’m amazed hardly anyone brings that up in all of the reviews I’ve seen because it’s so infuriating and contrived. Like did Magnifico ever know about that stuff but just chose not to use it because he’s an idiot who wanted to turn evil or merely forgot to apply it or did he really not know anything about it and Amaya hid it from behind his back knowing he’d fall victim to the book’s curse and she’d be there to take over the kingdom from him? This feels like the movie that keeps on giving with how much wrong there is with it.
The Wish was so bad that many suspected that the movie was written and generated by AI. However, this is apparently not the case, instead the film was re-written and re-edited many times before it took its final shape. For example, Asha's romance with the star boy and the queen's villainess were unfortunately elements that didn't pass the approval of Disney's jury of sensitivity readers. And while in some cases sensitivity readers can be useful, such as in consulting, in this case its use ate away a lot from the film. However, I would still be interested to know what the jury's reasons for these changes were, because it is important data and part of the film's development history.
About the scene you missed: it was a scene where Amalia prepared a "potion" for Magnifico. He used it (along with some chants in Latin) to create a sort of "rope of light" to drag down the star from the sky. It was quite dramatic. In the scene, he fails and has an outburst of rage and frustration where he attempts to eat wishes out of spite. There was a really cool interaction between him and Amalia, who was trying to calm him down and stop him from devouring three wishes: A: "this is your favourite cook's wish!" KM: "There are other cooks". A: "This is your best guard's...and please, this is my mother's!" KM: "Well, in that case..."(Magnifico tries to sneak it) A:"Please, be serious!" It was really a good moment where they established the villain power couple. I think you can still find it on other reaction vids
I am internally sobbing as I daydream about an alternate timeline where I'm at the theater, tearing up at a Wish that pays a beautiful homage to classic Disney movies and the inspiring messages Walt has made about following your dreams (and has mute star boy)
Disney: oh no no, we can't have Star boy. He's too similar to the Genie from Aladdin Also Disney: "proceeds to slap Mickey's face into a Luma from Super Mario Galaxy"
I didn't realize until I thought about the star boy that could've been, but it just struck me how long it's been since we had a chipper upbeat ingenue boy as our romantic lead in a Disney movie. Think about it- we've had Rapunzel and Anna and other bright-eyed optimists, but the dudes are always cynical and dour in comparison because they fulfill the role of rolling their eyes at sincerity and fairy tale stuff. Eugene, Kristoff, and in the non-romantic category we have Maui, Ralph, Nick from Zootopia. Naveen is carefree but he's also spoiled and entitled and spends a lot of time arguing with Tiana. Eric, Simba, Hercules and Milo from Atlantis are closer but they're also from a long time ago. Quasimodo has the sweetness and gentleness but he's also anxious and withdrawn. Aladdin is energetic and fun but too wily to be a naive ingenue. I'm not saying I dislike those characters, but it would've been really refreshing to have a male lead who's really innocent, earnest and energetic in the way you might imagine a personified wishing star could be. The girlies would've loved it.
God, I would love a Villain Couple. I would kill for a really good evil duo who are also in love. I want them to have a healthy relationship with one another but be utterly toxic to everyone else. Somebody else write me that story, because Disney ain't gonna do it.
When i watched it to me Magnifico wasnt the villian he was realistic and knew many of the peoples wishes SHOULDNT be granted BUT he let them have hope that it could. He ran the Kingdom so it would work WHILE Asha was a spoiled opportunist who wanted her way and wanted to exploit the King to get what she wanted. @@TheDFaiz Exactly XD It takes somneones wish to be "I want everyone dead" for the whole worls to dissapear XD
yeah, there was nothing about his system that was a cover for his selfish desires. maybe wishes can be done by others but he gatekeeps it to get all the attention? maybe he made a sacrifice or thinks he did and believes everyone should be grateful without asking. maybe he keeps the star captured and pretends it's his magic.
so many possibilities

That's the thing. Being a corrupted capitalist is one thing and being a STUPID corrupted capitalist is another. NOBODY would've been dissatisfied with this choice, people wouldn't even see the marketable plushie as Disney being greedy and buy more of them to have their own starboy

Like Sandman from Rise of the Guardians
And it would've been an easy way to satisfy their narcistic needs of squeezing in useless references, by having him shapeshift into some of the characters.
@@andre_601 heck.. If they want him to be a plushie.. Shows Starboy as a human, while his actual form is that star plushie..

@@peteynutt4104exactly, if you make a female a villain THATS SEXIST now 😂😂😂 it MUST be an evil white man that’s what’s in to hate today 😂😂😂
And there deleted scene together was so cute DISNEY WHY 😭
The lack of human Star, as well as "this song can be applied to any situation so it can be played on the radio" songs, shows that the "heart" of this movie is just a money bag.
even then, it could be a parallel to tinkerbell!! a flying, mute magical creature!
Why does literally every comment on a youtube video have better ideas then disney?
just imagine how adorable it would’ve been if asha sang to him and then at the end of it he started humming the melody under his breath with a cute lil smile and then they kissed WAAAHHHHHH
OMFGGGG, THIS IS A MUCH BETTER CONCEPT AND IDEA THAN WAHT WE GOT!! Goddamn do I want to write a fic about this.. AHHH
This feels like what Shrek would’ve been if Shrek was a bad movie.
Rosas takes in generic medieval fantasy kingdom number 223345 or Duloc
The original book by William Steig was much different from the movie.
WHY did Disney have to cut out all the great concepts for Wish?!
You know what? I'm GLAD that they weren't nominated for anything this year! Maybe this is the wake-up call they need to start actually giving a shit about the movies and shows they make!

yeah its really bizarre.
It makes me miss old Disney even more!
Excess shaking, overusing the spray, amused when they attempt to bargain for their release, she’s really a despicable character and is soooo vain and selfish 😂
That’s the level of horridness King Magnifico needed to be! Honestly, if one were to pit Velvet and King Magnifico together, she would totally wipe the floor with him verbally and he probably wouldn’t be a able to get a spell in cause she would steal whatever is available and easy to grab and take him by surprise. 😂

Wish had all the makings to be an amazing film but corporate meddling, keeping up with trends, and trying to copy and paste Encanto’s success killed it.
I think we haven't got good couple vs bad couple for long time.
IDK. It seems more like a corporate decision to make it this bland.
@@kristinahuchison2511To be fair, they didn't call Frozen the Snow Queen. It's like how the lion king is based on Hamlet
"Too close to Genie" in a movie that falls back on nostalgia and easter eggs to carry itself.
The first one is an active choice he made to gain unimaginable power, but the second one seems to happen to him like he’s Gollum drawn to his “precious,” which could still be really interesting but the devil’s in the details and there was virtually no progression getting him from “well-meaning leader who wants to do right by his kingdom” to “power-hungry, mustache-twirling supervillain.”
In the end I kind of felt bad for him getting locked up in the mirror when as far as I was aware, he was a good king made the victim of a magical curse.
The only thing worse than AI writing: studio executive meddling.
sensitivity readers couldn’t handle a romance because romance makes us women weak.
I think love makes people strong, see sailor moon. Who's love is her greatest weapon

There was a really cool interaction between him and Amalia, who was trying to calm him down and stop him from devouring three wishes:
A: "this is your favourite cook's wish!"
KM: "There are other cooks".
A: "This is your best guard's...and please, this is my mother's!"
KM: "Well, in that case..."(Magnifico tries to sneak it)
A:"Please, be serious!"
It was really a good moment where they established the villain power couple. I think you can still find it on other reaction vids
I actually watched it the other day! loved the dramatic flair 👀 plus the mil joke is so fun
9:38 "Asha's group of friends feel excessive"
Now personally, as one of the excessive people in my friend group, I really liked this representation!
26:23 the way you keep making me listen to this part 😭
it reminds me of that one trend:
we could have had starboy?
WE COULD HAVE HAD STARBOY?!
It's called wish because you wish it was better :pensive:
Another person with a Hatsune Miku profile picture
Lolll
I am internally sobbing as I daydream about an alternate timeline where I'm at the theater, tearing up at a Wish that pays a beautiful homage to classic Disney movies and the inspiring messages Walt has made about following your dreams (and has mute star boy)
Disney: oh no no, we can't have Star boy. He's too similar to the Genie from Aladdin
Also Disney: "proceeds to slap Mickey's face into a Luma from Super Mario Galaxy"
Oh, I would have LOVED to see Asha as his daughter. That would be so unique.
15:23 In other words, when it comes to the song "At All Costs", the songwriters wanted to have their cake and eat it too
they pulled a miles morales and smushed both cakes there-

The girlies would've loved it.
you pinpointed exactly why mourning the loss of starboy hurts so much that i haven't seen anyone else identify :(
Honestly the only times I can think of the guy being the cheerful one is Simba and Naveen. It’s usually always the girl who’s cheerful
God, I would love a Villain Couple. I would kill for a really good evil duo who are also in love. I want them to have a healthy relationship with one another but be utterly toxic to everyone else.
Somebody else write me that story, because Disney ain't gonna do it.
I was wondering about the queen and how she was just okay with sealing away her husband, when it was the magic that was corrupting him...
I reccomend the Venture Bros, the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch fill that
When i watched it to me Magnifico wasnt the villian he was realistic and knew many of the peoples wishes SHOULDNT be granted BUT he let them have hope that it could. He ran the Kingdom so it would work WHILE Asha was a spoiled opportunist who wanted her way and wanted to exploit the King to get what she wanted. And star was just a plot device to make her bad decisions look cute and reasonable
Can we also talk about how EMPTY Rosas looks? It looks like they got hit with the plague or something.
