I had just presumed the wiggles were just a bunch of random actors that were hired for a childrens tv show. Mad respect that these guys started this because they wanted too and not because they were forced to for a paycheck.

As an Aussie and born in 1994, I grew up in the peak Wiggles era. They did an 18+ (aus drinking age) tour in Syd a few years back and toured all the local RSLs. Tickets sold out in 30 secs. Literally a bunch of grown adults a bit drunk singing ‘toot toot chugga chugga big red car’ at the top of our lungs. Iconic.

There was a Wiggles cover band that did this in London, I think. They would play sets at bars and do pub crawls, all while singing songs from both the Wiggles and The Smiths.

The original wiggles lineup still tours occasionally, hilariously doing mostly 18+ pub shows for adults who grew up with the wiggles. Murray is also still very present in the Australian music scene, and does a lot of TV and radio and even occasionally pops up at music festivals to play guitar with popular rock and punk bands. They actually topped a countdown a few years ago that one of our very popular major radio station does where listeners vote for the best song of the year for covering a Tame Impala song. It cannot be understated how massive the wiggles were and still are in Australia, they’re basically royalty, and I think a big part of that is the fact that they all just seem to be really nice people who love music and care about kids. I think it’s that passion and sincerity that’s always kept them so beloved, in the same way we loved Steve Irwin. I’m not a patriotic person, but I’ll be patriotic about the wiggles god damnit.

I don't know how it would be "on brand" but okay. It is a children's show I know, but what are you getting at? Is there a darker side to The Wiggles than what is on the surface? Could this be something worth investigating like say a channel called, Blameitonjorge, or say Night Mind even? That'd be interesting and I would watch it too. I saw the Wiggles in the same era, I remember when they replaced some of the crew, I stopped watching it after that and also, I was well passed moving on then as I was a bit older anyways. I remember the songs but only one comes to mind every time I think back, Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy. That was also a backmasking era as well, "Stairway to Heaven", "Fruit Salad" and many many more like "Another one Bites the Dust" and Ozzy's "Iron Man." I was but a wee lad back then I am a fully grown adult now exploring the AOL internet at the time what a waste of time that was, Dial up. Jeeze was it utter trash. Oh good gracious. At the height of Wigglemania, their concerts were respectable-budget affairs even by the standards of adult rock concerts. They had a supporting cast of a couple dozen backup dancers, acrobats, and aerialists ... Murray was rigged to wires that lifted him up into the air during "Play Your Guitar With Murray", others flew during "Eagle Rock", and they had an entire aerial rig that supported at least 4, maybe more, acrobats above the stage. They've played Madison Square Garden and sold it out. It was a great time to be a Wiggles fan, because it was just crazy that a kids' musical group was that successful.
When I moved to Australia, I got to learn that they're kind of embedded in the national consciousness because they've been around for like TWO generations of kids now, and most people think they're cool. When they had the big line-up change after the 3 originals retired, the new crew played small venues like a local shopping mall, a tiny pavilion at the state fair, and a city Apple Store to get used to performing. Their cover of a pop song actually was the number 1 voted song of the "Top 100" one year recently.

When he shows wags sliding down and completely cuts all the audio to show how slow hes really going, henry not moving his arms when he is told to and the saxophone playing fish moves back and forth, which kevin gives his approval by saying in a monotone voice that it is “great”, to returning to the loading area extremely slowly. I love how informative he is and how funny he is at the same time. Also that zoom on flora door looking very unsettling at the beginning was great. Keep it up kevin!

One show added a young woman but that's it, the other adults just did this for ten years or more lol. I remember going to musicals or a small open air theatre near us and just assuming the actors were idk, the little mermaid or whatever or that there were just multiple of them (btw that makes the discussion about Disney's casting choices even funnier bc kids give a sh*t about looks. Most of the audience was between 18 and 25, it was pretty much a regular Wiggles concert but with some swearing, jokes about how they're old, and one girl had a sign about how she wanted to show Captain Feathersword her boobs. The whole stadium was singing every word to every Wiggles song and doing every single dance move, truly an amazingly fun night

I’ve been on something like this with my nieces, it was a boat/rapids ride in a warehouse painted blue, awkwardly quiet with “a pirates life for me” playing faintly from somewhere indistinct as you barely move, bobbing through half-assed scenes of mismatched pirate themed Halloween decorations - mostly plastic skeletons, some of them slowly swaying or rotating. It was out of the way enough that you couldn’t see or hear anything but the ride but also in no way immersive, so it just felt like you were in an old PS2 game that’s only half loaded. My nieces loved it, and there was never a queue, shockingly, so we’d just go round and round for like 20 minutes until they got fed up and it would slowly become the most terrifying experience ever.

And they lasted till he was 14 or so .. several times a day at their peak, so to have this idol like figure be open about it genuinely made it less scary for son and more normal and manageable. Yeah, it was kids stuff, but it felt like they didn't use that as an excuse to make the songs sound kiddy. Honestly fitting since they originated from a proper band. I was 6-7 when my sister was going through her Barney phase, and it drove me nuts. It all felt really generic and kiddy. The Wiggles was a lot more tolerable, as the harmony, instrumentation, and melodies made for great music in general, even if the lyrics were kiddy.
