The R7 is technically superior but the 90D is good enough for my needs. There are plenty of good deals on the used market these days for the 90D. And far more lens choices.
Just got a barely used E90D for 650 really crazy value. Loving it as an upgrade to my t3i
I use both actually. Got the 90D in January 2020 after they gave it the 24fps upgrade. Yyhat became my main camera until last August when I got my R7. The R7 became my new main camera with the 90D being my B camera. They make a great team for video with a two camera set up. The 4K fine on the R7 looks alot better than the regular 4K. I used both at my church during the month of December to capture holiday activities and events. Those are on my channel. I put my heavier 90D on a tripod to capture wide shots and used my R7 for stills and video close ups.

Really good video I was thinking of upgrading from my 80D, so I rented an R & R7 to see if I liked them & honestly I don’t. I much prefer the way my 80D feels, looks and performs. I’m thinking of just getting a 90D now. The R series has not impressed me that much besides the R3/R5, which I cannot afford and for what I need it for at this moment, I don’t need the newest.
The 90D footage is still great
The 4K fine on the R7 has slightly more edge detail in hair and face. Also the R7 had a bit more contrast, slightly deeper blacks, but that can be adjusted in contrast settings on either camera. The cameras are otherwise close in regular 4K quality. However R7 has plenty of other new features and the ability to use both EF, EFs and also RF lenses worth considering, and no record limit for vloggers. Thanks for posting!
I had the 80D from May 2016 to December 2019 where I got my 90D which I sold 1 month after I got my R7 with the EF to RF adapter in October 2022. I love my R7.
I have never shot with both cameras but I will say that the bigger and heavier nature of a DSLR feels so good to shoot with compared to my mirrorless cam
I miss the ergonomics of a dslr! I had a 90d and sold it to go mirrorless (x-t4). I miss the 90d but everyone’s opinion is that mirrorless is better now but from the point of view of lenses the 90d has so many more to choose from, including Sigma etc. I have an x-t30 as a little walk around for cities so am actually tempted to go back to 90d and keep the mirrorless x-t30 alongside. I’ve watched half of RUclips trying to decide!

I know several pro video shooters that prefer crop, the greater depth of field is a feature when shooting video with the same glass using lower ISO's.
Hi, Dan. Great comparison. I have the 90D. It seems that the R7 is what the 90D should of been. That 120 slow motion seems good with the R7. The 90D in your demonstration was quite useless. Glad you shared this with us though. Thanks, Man
I preferred the 90D. It looks like the lighting was better? It just seemed to edge out the R7, but they’re very similar.

I like having the filming feature but to be honest I buy my camera Purley for shooting still images if I was worried about video I'd get something dedicated for this. My 90d is solid and great if your shooting a long day as the battery holds up well,

I´m genuinely puzzled. What's the big deal about being able to shoot in 4K if the videos are going to be uploaded to RUclips (or something similar)? Surely any increase in quality will be lost.

Canon 90D is Clearer and has a Better Video footage based on your Video
Ironically Canon made the R7 to be mirrorless replacement for the aging 7D DSLR.

I still like the 90D. I’ve had one since March 2023. I don’t need 4K video, CLog or any of the specialized video features. Although it would be nice if Canon would produce a Firmware upgrade to give us Autofocus in 120 fr/sec. I don’t see it happening though. One feature of the 90D I use all the time is the top LCD info screen display. Very useful feature that I will not give up. I think mirrorless cameras are overpriced. I got my 90D from Amazon Canada for $1414.00. The R7 is $1899.99 CAD.
90d性能大概率无法支持120fps下自动对焦，除非出个用第十代处理器的新版本，但是那是不可能的，因为不赚钱。中国大陆这边r7还算便宜的，90d要7500-8000人民币，r7只需要9500，上半年的时候只需要比发布价高二三百，让我犹豫的原因是因为rf镜头太贵了
我同意，RF镜头确实很贵。不过，我还使用 EF 和 EF-S 镜头与适配器，它们工作得很好！
90D Superior
Dan, not sure if you have an Atomos Ninja V, but if so have you tried capturing 4k clean HDMI out from the 90D?
There is no benefit to external recording on the 90d, although it does output clean 4k which is great for streaming!
Great video Dan! It seems that the R7 loses a bit of sharpness due to the use of the adapter. Would it be right?

Pretty much the 90D advantages are the size and battery life other than that the R7 is equivalent or superior in everything else.

Если не брать во внимание замедленную съемку с игрой в одни ворота, то 90D мне показался намного лучше, по автофокусу как минимум да и по общей картинке в целом. Но все же хотелось бы сравнения фотографий - лично я видео практически не использую и мне без разницы, есть в камере 4К или FHD.

On a similar level, both sucks tho.
On the R7 there are only a few reasonable good video modes:
- 4k fine
- 4k60 crop
- any 1080p mode
4k60 uncropped is utterly garbage, sadly, its barely sharper than 1080p60 and just waste SD card space
the R7 has 6 hrs video recording, the 90D is limited at 30 minutes. that the only difference in my observation.
Hi Dan, These are the two cameras I’m considering but I don’t use the video much, I’m more interested image quality. I currently have a Nikon D5600 and want to upgrade. I want to get into Wildlife photography and I love doing Macro too. Would the R7 be a good upgrade for me for taking high quality images? Thank you for your feedback.
I have a question, when I used a RF to EF Adapter, how much my quality go down? 😅 cause if it stays the same, I might go for R7
Interesting video recordings and i got 2 canon 80Ds cameras and 50MM EF 1.2L and canon 35 MM EF 1.4L lenses and Both give me GOOD Quality video recordings AT ALL KINDS of lights or Auto Focus situations and I NOT HAD NO Problem at all for indoors or outdoors so to buy a 90D is a good investment and helps with my photography
Don't forget the R7 also offers auto leveling, the 90D does not.

@@Izzet99 pretty much if you take your pictures at angle the camera will auto balance the picture so if you take your pictures like slightly like maybe a few degrees to the left once you take the picture it'll stay at a straight horizontal

Definitely better with the R7 but not bat at all with the 90D.

is there in the regular 4k video setting for the r7 no crop ? so its only the aps sensor crop ? i know the 4k crop setting has extra crop, but i am not sure about the 4k UHD regular setting
The only crop is the 1.6 for being an aps-c sensor camera.
Can you shoot 10-bit 120fps video with R7?
Sure it does! HDR PQ is a 10 bit mode as well clog3 recording is 10-bit (4:2:2)
Only in non HDR PQ or clog you have basic 8bit video (which has also an advantage... the least noise if you need to crank the ISO to maximum)

@@ojt4438 I would recommend shooting HDR PQ unless you really need high ISO and with clog or basic 8bit.
Its not too bad, i have a few examples of ISO 6400-25600 shots on clog3 (remember, i have always noise reduction off in camera and i deal with it in post so i dont have to deal with unnecessary detail loss)
The Issue with HDR PQ is that you need more light/lower ISOs for usable performance, also its goes to maximum ISO 12800 in HDR PQ video modes (unlike 8 bit or clog3 recording up to 25600)
Im not so sure for what purpose you use 120 fps, but you will probably end up like me (as someone also aiming for the 1080p120 and just beside that 4k60 etc), i am using as much 4k60 cropped or 4kfine as i can now, especially 4k60 crop with not too fast action in the frame is very nice to upscale and slow down with Topaz VEAI.
Slowing down 4k60 is except for fast situations (BIF etc) the better choice over upscaling 1080p120 (as long we dont get affordable, good looking 4k120...)
The biggest issue i have with 120 fps... NO SOUND, and external recording? no thanks! I didnt thought that it will annoy me, but often it does.
