This is what it sounds like when someone was classically trained - but sings heavy metal in a band - & covers a Paul Simon song. Dave Draiman brings a different but beautiful light to this song. 🎵✌❤
Exactly 👋🤜🤛🤘™️
He's not classically trained. He was trained as a Cantor. But I get your point :D
ruclips.net/video/q_BJaM-UrXc/видео.html take a look at henk. his voice is how a classic singer sounds. his voice sounds much richer than davids. a whole different kind of singing.
Hes incredible
He sings this song very strong and Amazingly! I get chills every time I hear it!
This song, sung by Disturbed, never fails to give me goose bumps! So powerful!!
No matter how many times I hear Disturbed’s version, I get chills! Amazing vocals and they are INCREDIBLE live.
Disturbed definitely took this song to a whole new level. David Draiman's vocals, the orchestration but the video and cinematography are a big part of it as well. But Paul Simon's lyrics are hauntingly timeless and as relevant today as they were when he wrote it.
I agree 100%. I feel the same way with how Johnny Cash covered Hurt, same for the video and the circumstances shortly after
The original version of this song by Simon and Garfunkel was a warning. The Distubed version is the anger of the warning being ignored
I totally agree with you!!
@@brandy2876 you can't find a reaction to this song without that comment posted in it several times, though most people use "rage" instead of just "anger".
And that was why I agreed. Lol no sense in me retyping something already said.
Yes! You nailed it.
Ditto
Classically trained, I hear. Everytime I hear him sing this it gives me goose bumps and I fight to hold back the tears. So powerful and SO fitting for this time in life.
Disturbed has been around since 2000 and David is a powerful singer! You should react to Down With the Sickness next!
^^^^this
My only issue with asking people to react to that song is the part towards the end, which I get and all, but it's a bit disconcerting to new listeners.... You almost have to ask that they listen to the more palatable radio version of the song that edits that part out. (heck as a Disturbed fan, that part just bothers me as it doesn't really fit into the full song, it seems almost pushed in---and I get the reasons and the message etc.... but there is a reason that I like The Game or Stupify more on the album version than Down with the Sickness) (note I think Down with the Sickness is the best song on the album, but think if I'm asking someone to see if they like the band on first listen, that I would go with the game or stupify as a jumping on point)(or Shout.. but a cover is not always the best way to turn people onto new music)
I'm going ahead and rewatching disturbed music now, and yes Stupify would absolutely be my next recommendation to create a person who likes disturbed. Again Down with the Sickness is the better and more iconic song for a host of reasons, but Stupify really grabs the listener and doesn't have a bit where they might lose them.
I thought they came out in 1994? Either way, you are very right, his voice is super powerful lol.
@@cardsfanboy 😂😈or Rage Against Machine. Then watch this video again & gauge his singing voice seeing his control after decades!
Hold In To Memories is another Disturbed song that shows off David's softer side...you will appreciate it...especially after 2020.
Glad it is behind us and hope for 2021!!!!!
You gotta gotta gotta listen to Disturbed...Down With The Sickness. That is their trademark sound.
The range of his vocals is fuckin insane!!
Do his live performance on Conan. He was sick and still sounds incredible. I think it's better than the recorded version. Also, definitely check out the Pentatonix version too.
It would be better if they react to the original that Simon and Garfunkle came out with in 1964
@@sethmorgan833 It would be even better if they did both. The way this song is transformed by 3 different artists demonstrates how timeless the message truly is.
It’s an auto tuned mic too. The music in the background was kind of quiet. It didn’t have nearly as big of a sound as the recording.
@@derekewing9669 he was pissed when he heard the auto tune
ywah, the live version was even better!
Another metal band with a classically trained singer is Queensryche, give a listen to "silent lucidity"
I listened to that the other day.
I love that song.
My hubby got me hooked on that one. When we are driving it comes on we blast it.
Geoff Tate had incredible voice back in the day. Really put on display in the Operation: Mindcrime album
Wish I could like this a thousand times!!! One of my fave songs EVER!!
This is Disturbeds cover of The Sound of Silence. The song was done by Simon and Garfunkle. Disturbed is well known for their heavy metal music. David is a power house vocal singer with a large range.
*BRACE YOURSELF*
*It doesn't matter what your ethnicity, sex, age, religion, sexual preference or anything else is. This song hits everyone in the feels every time.*
Right, you are. I'm a cannibalistic necrophile and this song touches my very soul
@@aldoushuxleysghostLMAO
The singer is David Draiman. I believe he was classically trained. Before you listen to Down with the Sickness, read what the song is about.
Yes, he was classically trained to be a Jewish cantor so that also explains some of his intonation and pronunciation, such as lingering on the N consonant in "silence" instead of the E vowel as most would do.
@@ADamselInDesign Down with the Sickness! (play the lyrics/closed captions)
He was.
Yes he was classically train!
you dont need to read about that to understand what it is about. no brainer
Great reaction and yes he has a super powerful voice!! This was originally done by Simon and Garfunkel... Simon and Garfunkel heard this rendition of their song and them theirselves say it is now Disturbed's song!! To me that says a lot...
Disturbed is hard rock. They are awesome! He sings with an operatic baritone style. A truly stunning voice. Try "Down with the sickness" and "Stupify"!!!
*metal
@@Lost_n_Found_1 same thing
@@streetracer1086 Lmao. Not even close.
@@Lost_n_Found_1 no matter how many sub genres you people come up with for rock music its still rock music yall sound like these people that try to say they are another gender than they are im not male im magirl51 fuck off your a man just like fuck off disturbed is rock music oh and if you want to be corrected they are technically nu metal
@@streetracer1086 According to your iron-clad logic, Cannibal Corpse and AC/DC play the same style of music. Lol, sit down and shut up.
This cover makes me damn near cry every time lol. I've been listening to disturbed since I was a kid, but then I heard this... and it blew me away... You mentioned opera? I thought I heard from somewhere that he did take opera classes lol.
He was classically trained/sang as a cantor in Synagogue. Such a beautiful voice.
He's a classically trained Jewish cantor.
Another good one is Disturbed “The Vengeful One” and Disturbed - Indestructible
Devour too
The Light
ruclips.net/video/KY8E-O7LCog/видео.html
David Draiman is an interesting guy, his typical style is very growly and definitely for Metal but he is a classically trained vocalist. He's gonna be around a long time because he knows how to growl from the front of his throat and not destroy it by screaming from the back.
Simon and garfunkel did this song years before, it was powerful then as it is now
Nobody who isnt good with their voice can growl and not sound terrible. Metal has a ton of amazing vocalists. But he is indeed, one of the greats. He compares to Serj Tankian to me, and thats an extremely high bar.
The live version on Conan David had the flue and still belted this masterpiece out
Auto tuned out the ass as well
HE WAS TRAINED IN OPERA...HE KILLS THIS VERSION OF SOUD OF SILENCE...BLESS THE TWO OF YOU KEEP LISTENING TO THE SOUNDS OF ALL MUSIC!!
Love to see Jai feeling them vocals when he puts a little rasp into it. Dude has an amazing voice.
"the people bowed and prayed..." from that bit forward gives me chills.
David Draimon is a classically trained Cantor. Paul Simon, (the writer and original singer, with Art Garfunkel) praised Disturbed with their cover of this classic. HooRah my brothers. PEACE!!!!!
You think that's phenomenal..listen to him do the live version...amazing
The live version on conan right? Bro...phenomenal performance
He had a terrible head cold that night and still killed the song!!! He's phenomenal!! And I don't listen to metal music I just love Him doing This song!!😍
Love you rotten
Please do big 10 inch by arrow Smith..
Live version was better!
I remember hanging out with Draiman at a concert. One of the most humble and nicest folks you could ever meet. Fantastic guy!
Dude that would have been awesome
Disturbed is great!! My suggestion is “The Vengeful One” next. Great song!
Simon and Garfunkel sang this song. As what was to come. Disturbed sings it as its here it’s arrived. Listen to the lyrics. Disturbed is a metal band if I’m correct but this mans voice!, his range in vocals. He could be a opera singer, country, soft rock, to hard rock and heavy metal singer. He’s amazing
Now you need to listen to Simon and Garfunkle's original version of this song from the 60's.
Comment about original should be at the top
Nah, thats ok.
Yeah simon and garfunkel did a great job, but to take a song and make it your own takes talent. This man did an amazing job.
And the Pentatonix version from last year.
The original is better. Same with their cover of The Offsprings ‘So Far Away’. Disturbed did good covers of both songs but the originals are still better.
Everything time I get goosebumps. Dude as awesome as hell.
Best reaction duo, awesome couple
Yall should check out Sublime "What I Got"
Santeria too
Love this version of this song, I get teary eyes Everytime I hear it . I'm new to this channel but can't wait to get to know you both ❣️👍🎧
David Draiman is a classicaly trained cantor in the Jewish faith. He sings scripture from the Torah...and heavy metal...lol. BTW, I think you'd be blown away by reacting to Dogs by Pink Floyd
So before they created Disturbed, David (the lead singer) was actually a trained Cantor. This is the person at Jewish synagogues who sings the prayers and songs during the service. They are known for having powerful voices. Disturbed normally does Rock and thats why then they did this it blew everyone away. Simon and Garfunkel who did the original version even said they thought this version was better than theirs.
The best cover of a song I ever heard in my life he made that song his as well. And I saw Simon & Garfunkel in Central Park years ago and I was a kind of gong to listen to the music with a lot of bias but his voice was and is perfect for that song
he is mezmerizing and the bass drum with those 2 strikes is powerful and the orchestra is perfect background setting the mood
Great reaction. You should definitely react to their live version from the Conan O'Brien show. Despite being sick that day, lead singer David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views. Keep up the great work!
I love that version, in fact after watching half%Jai reacting here I went and watched it again.
Disturbed is a hard rock and metal band and they don't have many songs like this. (Slow and melodic) If you guys liked this then you should listen to "Uninvited Guest" and really dig into the lyrics while you listen. I loved your reaction Queen Jai! ❤👍
Loved y'all's reaction, as always. Jai, I loved your emotional response--this song always gives me chill bumps and sometimes I tear up no matter how many times I've heard it. ❤
Arki Kalie I got choked up and finally tearly when I listened to this song
This band is from my hometown and the leader singer David was trained in classical music if i am not mistaken! check out the live version of this song on Conan O Brien. David had a cold or the flu and sound exactly like the video!
Simon and Garfunkel's original was a warning; this version is rage that the warning was ignored
Came here to say this and now I don't need too. Spot on.
You got that right!
Nailed it.
Simon and Garfunkel were a Folk band, This is the only cover Paul Simon actually liked. They couldn’t get this song to sound as “dark” as Disturbed. Which is what they were going for.
Very well said!
Y’all gotta see him in concert, always an excellent show. If we get back to that.
He is normally a heavy metal singer but here he shows his versatility.
I relate to this song so much because of sad the world has gotten with suppression and censorships and I'm scared in to silence by the world.
Check out the live version. on Conan!!! Then check out Down with the Sickness! And the Pentatonix version is great also. Thanks for reacting to this! His voice is amazing and so were your reactions!
oh my brother... if u only knew... YES, he is definitely part of rock n' roll!!!!!!!
Disturbed, wow!
That gave me chills!
I've always liked "The Sound of Silence"! This version is like the birth of a new age lyrical character to be contemplated within the grace of the offering that keeps the integrity of the original song by Simon and Garfunkel...Nice 🤟😎
He was raised and trained as a Cantor, following in his grandfather's footsteps, then got adventurous and shelved his talent in doing Disturbed, until now.
One of the great covers ever, of the massive classic Simon and Garfunkel song, which you should also react to. Dude's voice gives me chills.
Those colors make you glow, girl! Lovely!
You gotta watch the same song, but he's singing it live on Conan. He sounds even better live. Cheers
That song makes me so emotional...every time 🤘🤘🤘
This song always gives me goosebumps and sends a chill down my spine. Amazing song
Disturbed has a ton of good songs and I believe they do one cover song (like the Sound of Silence) on every album. One of my favorite Disturbed songs is "Remember."
I love the way Jay reacted, she closed her eyes and truly felt this song 🥰
You guys really freaked me out a while back with the video that made me think you heroes were breaking up. About halfway through that video I was so frustrated I unsubscribed then forgot to resub later when I was just so relieved that I had misjudged the meaning. You folks are beautiful and my grandsons and myself really enjoy watching your lives. I apologize for missing that last couple pieces of content. (Although that will be quickly remedied). Thank you for being great role models for my grandsons. Also thanks for being someone my grandsons and I can bond over. We wish you all happiness, health and everything great to you all and those whom you hold dear. Thank you
Like Tarja Turanen, formerly of Nightwish, he's a classically trained singer.
I'm new to your channel and I love that you are going out of your comfort zones on the types of music you are trying. I love your choices in music. The ones I've listened too, are all songs I love. Chris Stapleton, Tennessee Whiskey, Sugarland, Stay, Disturbed with Sound of Silence are the first 3 I listened too. I am happy you are finding all genres of music have somerhing to love for everyone. Keep it up! Thank you for sharing.
Another great cover from Disturbed is Land of confusion. Its incredibly apt for the current political climate.
Great reaction, I just found you two, can't wait for more.
I need to hear this IMMEDIATELY!
Chicago Band and David D ......... Disturbed is amazing.
Listen to it live on Conan I believe. You will be a million times more impressed
I don't know why, but this song moves me. I cry sometimes listening to this. I am not religious, but this song gives me a "religious" feeling. His voice is epic.
Disturbed is one of my all time favorite bands! Y'all should try Avenged Sevenfold- "Nightmare" or "Hail to the King" . Also some great ones!
Part of what made this cover so unbelievable is the huge departure from their usual style. They are HARD metal, but much more melodic than a lot of metal. Down With the Sickness is great and would give you a real picture of what they normally do. I would recommend the official video over the one that’s just lyrics. That one is waaay dark. . It has kind of a signature sound in it that I bet you’ve heard before even if you’ve never heard the song. It does have a lot of cursing in it, so if that offends you, you probably wouldn’t like it, but a whole lot of people love it. Y’all are great! 💔❤️❤️
I thought y’all already did a reaction to this song.... I’ve seen so many reactions to this song I can’t remember lol. LOVE LOVE LOVE this song ❤️
This was Paul Simon' the writer of the song this was his favourite cover he even put it on his wed page. the song was written about the media in the 60s and 70s and how they controlled the masses and still do now with internet, phones, tablets and tv. and you want a power voice then there is only one person and that is nessum dorma sung by Pavarotti.
Disturbed is a rock band, a few mainstream hits but this cover is by far their best in my opinion
Agree! Gives me chills. I never listened to the actual lyrics before Disturbed covered this!
*metal
Oh go down the Disturbed rabbit hole! It's great!
He looks more like Daughtry to me! He IS heavy metal! “Down With the Sickness”
I FORGOT ABOUT DAUGHTRY!! I was thinking Phil Collins from his In The Air Tonight video
I think he looks alot like Kevin Pollack in his facial expressions.
@@JBiggs54442 I can see that, too!
Music reaches across the divide and that is the beauty of it.
"I wanna hear him again!" YES!!! Please do, sister! Disturbed is amazing. He is also the lead singer of Device.
Simon and Garfunkel recorded the original version in 1965. It’s still relevant today. You need to listen to their version and Pentatonix’s version too.
This is one of those songs that no matter how many times you hear it, it still gets to you. His voice singing those lyrics just grabs my heart & squeezes it. The original by Simon & Garfunkel is beautiful but this version takes it to another level.
Jai you look GORGEOUS today 💄
I laughed when you said a lot of ppl think I can sing & Half said oh yeah & then continued to play the video. Sooooo.... Apparently he doesn't agree 🤷♀️Now I want to hear you sing 😅Thank y'all for bringing a big smile to my face today 😊❤️🌻
At 3:35/3:36… you have what looks like a beautiful orb flying near you ♥️
Again at 4:10
I work outside and you can darn well be sure when this comes on my earbuds I sing along full voice. It's just me and the song.
Love this ❤
Jai I can see it in your face , you get this song. Not saying your hubby doesn’t but I feel ya, like we sisters’s from another mother. Love u guys.
Yea, we all look alike 🤣😂 I thought Phil Collins myself
Omg that's great! 😂😂😂 I was like Howie Mandel? Really? Nah 😂
Yall are bad ass for looking around n it warms me cuz I'm one that grew up around rap n old school n metal n it's a great thang tosee yall enjoying music keep it up be straight peace out
As most people have suggested, Down With The Sickness is one of their biggest hits. Just don't expect the same sound, because it's not silent. That was a bad pun, but I had to say it.😏
This is one of those songs that give you the chills
You need to listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkle (the one I grew up with), it has been one of my favorite songs. When I heard this version it blew me away. Both versions bring tears to my eyes because it makes me think of my son Shayne and how we lost him to suicide at the age of 17.
I'm so sorry. I have a 17 year old son who has attempted suicide numerous times and it scares me every single day that he's going to accomplish it...it terrifies me.
Have to agree. So sorry for your unimaginable loss.
David’s bandmates had to check on him often because the song was so emotionally pack it had an effect on him and his emotions (meaning he would *cry* but don’t say that out loud). Disturbed is a HEAVY metal band and this cover was the first time that band ever performed this type of genre/song.
Haven't even got through the video but I already know how it's gonna go.. because one cannot be a music lover and not just be jaw dropped amazed by this! Love you two!
I saw them live almost twenty years ago. Blows my mind people are just discovering them
Everyone seems to like the live version but I love the video for this song better. The video gives it a certain something. It's powerful and you can see his facial expressions and his passion for the song. The visuals are incredible! David Draiman is the perfect example of "Do not judge a book by its cover". He's classically trained and has one of the most beautiful voices.
I have listened to disturbed since the beginning, this song makes me tear up.
You should check out the live version from the Conan show it's incredible.
My mom listened to someone else singing this song, and is brought back with this version. I like it
Everyone’s saying “listen to more disturbed,” lmao... my ass throws a ball in left field not even close to the genre you’re playing. Hahahah! They call me #Random. Haha
I love watching her listen to music. Can really tell you hear and feel it !!!! Not just this video but others too ...saw it in Yellowwolf/Eminem
First time i heard them sing this was a live version and i was blown away didn't seem like the same man or rock band that sing songs like down with the sickness they did this cover of the simon and garfunkel song by the same name justice y'all should check out chris cornell cover of the sinead o'conner song nothing compares to you that was written by prince🔥🎶🔥
Knowing the deeper meaning of the lyrics had me on another emotion hearing the song
Loved this reaction! Disturbed is my husband's favorite band. The live version of this song is amazing!!
Amazing song. It received over a billion hits Crazy great video
One of my husband's favorite songs ever. I've listened to this song at least once a day for years 😂
I know I keep asking, but I'll keep asking until you guys react to what's mine is yours by Kane Brown and One thing right by Kane Brown. Both of my husband's songs for me lol
2:49 . . . You know, I’ve never thought that, but I can see it now that you’ve pointed it out, especially where it’s paused currently.
This man legit is an opera level singer. No cap. No cap. No cap. His voice is an instrument with Soul. What a message, so true, who dares disturb the sound of silence.
OK. Now y'all need to go down the Disturbed rabbit hole. He is easily one of the best metal vocalists of all time. This is originally a Simon and Garfunkel song. Very different twist with this version. Much love, Y'all
Disturbed is my all time favorite band for 20 something years finally got to see him live hands down best show ever
You can see him doin opera? Son, he is a classically trained opera singer. 😜
PS: You two are wholesome AF! 😉
