Greetings #GothMoths
This is one of those reactions where I can't honestly remember whether it is a First Time reaction or not so, go with it! Anyway, what a voice!
+++
My name is Nat and I am a gothic operatic singer, actor and voice artist based in the heart of Kent, England. Music has always played an important part in my life as a musician and I love to use my platform on RUclips to share it in my music reactions.
I work on the basis of a reaction should be just that, you don't get another crack at it! What you see from me is the real deal. I don't pre-screen anything I see or work from tight scripts. I'm completely open, emotive and sensitive with my audience.
Stalk me socially!

Seeing people's reaction to seeing this for the first time always makes me giggle. The pure beauty and joy of the performance is always breathtaking.
Same. And it's interesting see how universal that experience is with this. I've never seen anyone have a single criticism of it.
JOY,,,? I thought AGONY. L.O.L. I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE. PERFECT.
Me too!!!
His voice is a one in a million with this song. No one will ever be able to do this song just after his performance
his voice is viseral. it penetrates you and touches raw emotion. I've never hear a song better interpreted. Absolutely love him.
All great vocal performances have one thing in common. They touch, impact & penetrate to the deepest parts of your SOUL!
No one has mentioned yet but David was very sick with the flu when they appeared on the show (you can hear the nasal from time to time). He didn't want to cancel so he struggled through. The show producers wanted him to use autotune but he refused. At one point they turn it on briefly and you can see him get irritated. Great performance despite him not being 100%. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.
There's some news he was sick
@@brucedickinson12 He was so sick, he said there was no way he could stand and sing, and that's why he was seated.
What time stamp did he appear irritated? Just curious.
@@jennytalks5882 he picked it out early but the glance to his right about 0:53 in this video and again to his left (at Conan?) at 1:16 .... He told them NOT to put any on but they did.
@@damienmaynard8892 I never would have gathered that. Interesting. I am obsessed by his performance though. The song, his voice, the music video. It's all positively rediculous.😍
I have seen many reaction videos to this performance. But you are the first to notice the flip and be as excited about it as I am. You're absolutely right: it's the little things that make the difference.
I know this was a year ago you posted this but I noticed it as well. I’m really surprised that not many people (or any at all) picked up on it.
What is a flip?
@@mattmoore6218 what is a flip?
@@lisawatson9570 I don’t exactly know what it is as I’m not musically trained (just going off what he called it) but that specific part he’s mentioning, I’ve always noticed a difference in the way it’s performed and nobody mentions it in their reactions until now.
As a Disturbed fan from their early years, I was absolutely floored by this song and this live performance on Conan. Not their typical genre. We all knew what a great vocalist David Draiman is, but at this level, I was shocked. Watch Down with the Sickness and you'll understand.
Me too Paul.
My first time hearing it, I felt that his voice enveloped me in its warmth and depth. I became part of the story he was weaving down to my soul. That voice took me through an emotional roller coaster. Amazing!
David Draimen has one of the best voices in the industry right now
Try over the last 20+ years. Don't forget they came out in the late 90s
Yeah I'd definitely put him in my top 5 ever
EVER
I would've killed to hear him singing along with Chester Bennington
@@kikinlp1000 oh my goodness. I am cannot even imagine that in my head. WOW
He articulates beautifully, you can understand every word! Beautiful voice, and yes inviting!
If you feel music deep inside, you can't help but appreciate the build-up and the emotion David Draiman puts you through. Honestly, every time I hear it, I am moved to tears. I read a comment on another reaction video...God turned to David and asked, "do you want the voice of an angel or devil". And David replied "yes".
"You never know what's just around the corner". Truer words were never spoken. RUclips is how, as a lover of classical music, I discovered Nightwish, Jinjer, Heilung, Eivor, Diana Ankudinova, and other wonderful artists who are simply ignored by US radio.
Please tell me RUclips has introduced you to Dimash. If not, you're in for a treat. Possibly the best vocalist who has ever lived.
@@Becvar80 Oh sure. I didn't mention everyone. By the way, are you familiar with Yma Sumac? Should be ;).
As they are ignored by most radio around the world, unfortunately.
Even being sick at the time, he slayed it, Brilliant performer, amazing band...Its a haunting and angelic sound, but when that man wants power, he gives it. Amazing...Thank you, Peace
"This is something else". The main reason most people got emotional about this live cover version of this song is just because that vocal performance was the very definition of PERFECTION. Everytime we understand that something is completely perfect, and we have the chance of witness perfection particularly when we are talking about any kind of art... we got emotional.
I have watched over 50 of these reaction videos to David Draimen and you are the only one that mentions the flip. This is truly the best live performance of any artist I have seen. Truly a spiritual journey.
@@zethorasevenone779 I thought I was the only person that searches RUclips for reactions to this song! I never tire of the song or the reactions.
David Draiman is an incredible vocal artist, his voice is like coffee, it's rich, it's dark, it's robust. easily why Disturbed is one of the most popular Metal Bands today, because he knows how to reel them in, ab-SOUL-utely one of the greatest covers to-date.
I'd really like to correct that. Even Paul Simon LOVED it. It's not "one of"... it's THE greatest cover to-date.
@@thedarcbird agreed...Simon told him that the song was his now.
This interpretation kind of makes the song feel like a rhapsody because it takes you through a few different moods: the dark calmness at the beginning, the intense build up, the rage and finally calmness again.
I love your face when we get further into the song - it's a joy to watch you have the same experience I did the first time I heard it. I mean, not exactly the same - I was driving to work when it came on and ended up bawling like a baby by the time I got to my job! But what's nice about watching a professional react is you can explain why this performance is so powerful. I can only feel it and hold on for the ride!
Hello, new subscriber here, loved that you mentioned the vocal flip, I have watched at least 100 reactions to this beautiful rendition, and you are the first to do so. I am 63 years old now, and still own the original Simon and Garfunkel hit on vinyl! I am a true convert to Disturbed’s reimagining of an already timeless classic!
Would you define a vocal flip please?Thank you.
When it comes to this performance, it isn’t just listening to a song, it’s about taking you on a journey and giving you a truly remarkable experience. Every tone he is capable of and all the emotions he properly conveys, introduces you to this old song in a new way. The original was great lyrics and great vocals, but this performance makes you feel the lyrics, the message behind it, and the emotions that are hidden behind the original song. He forces you to listen to what it truly means.
The song starts off so beautifully melancholic and builds to something very powerful. To me, the words convey both desperation for change and the frustration of not being heard. I've always like the original, but this version is absolutely my favorite.
I have heard a million reactions to this and you're the first person that heard the vocal flip!!!! It was one of the first things I reacted to compared to the recorded version. I love it, but I don't know if he meant to do it since he was sick.
I thought David was going to cry when he had that sort of crack in his voice. He was fighting back the urge and I heard it the very first time I listened. It was so emotional with that quick moment. The people were afraid to say anything. They held on tight to silence.
This song still gives me goosebumps and I’ve heard it a thousand times and more 🥰🥰
I'm 64....just heard this cover for the 1st time months ago. It is my go to bed lullaby from David Draiman. I have great respect for what he and the band stand for as artists, with the music they choose to write. The bridges they are building and crossing are Blessings to all that take the time to truly listen. Yes I am a complete Fan...
Nat, I love your reactions cause everything´s in your head! Hahaha. We can notice how much you have in your head and how much excitement you feel in your heart. Not always expressed in words but in your gestures. And of course, your expertise
I just absolutely LOVE watching people react to this......I just love how everyone reacts. I have yet to see anyone who isn't blown away and loves it.
What an utterly unique and touching reaction. Thank you
He's a trained Jewish cantor. He knocked this song out of the park and owns it now.
Just like Neil Diamond
What was epic for me, is with this.... he showed EXACLTY what the human voice is REALLY capable of.
David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance Nat Elliot-Ross. Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", "Violence Fetish" and "Enough" by Disturbed too. They are a bit "heavier"....lol......
His Voice DRAWS US IN But the Lyrics itself bring about such power...HEAR/LISTEN...the Message
Oh yes, I have been waiting for you to hear this, isn't he just glorious.
This song has touched everyone its very powerful as music should be :-)
David's voice brings joy to my soul.
I agree with you with everything you are saying about David's voice 👍💛
His voice draws you in. Disturbed is the only Heavy Metal band I like enough to buy their albums, that raspy tone is why. And I’ve listened to this version as well as the original video more times than I can count and I get goosebumps every time. EVERY. TIME.
The man is out of this world live . They were in Houston a few years back and it was a family affair. 3 generations mid 60's, early and mid 30's and 6 teenagers. We had a blast. 😊
I wish people would react to actual live performances. There are not many, but they are so, so much better than this.
I love it.
Disturbed was one of the first big concerts I ever saw, waaaaay back when they toured for their first album. Even then, as a band that was just breaking into the "big time" tours, they were incredibly tight live.
Absolutely goosebumps inspiring. Its on my playlist since the moment I first heard it.
Nat, your reaction and description was spot on. As you, we felt the emotion of David's voice, and the emotion of the whole performance. Bravo!
David Draiman is all I need. I lost my husband in a car wreck 10 years ago. I have not dated or had any kind of relationship since. There have been times when I thought maybe I should seek someone out.... But all I need his David when he says..."In the naked light I saw"..... that's it, that totally does it for me. :-)
Thanks for sharing of yourself with us. That was real and beautiful in itself. It was fun to watch you wrestle with David's southern twang on his "you". I was also gratified to see you appreciate his Heavy Metal background for his grit. Thank you.
Awesome reaction NES! You're correct. It's all about the story telling and David does it so incredibly well and this song illustrates that best! Thank you for a wonderful assessment of this already-classic song!
The performance of David in Disturbed is so emotional and you reacted like i did. Considering they are a heavy metal group i was blown away...
you are one of the few that has allowed yourself to show your TRUE feelings about this epic performance
Eiderdown piercing souls. Effortless presentation, his voice never strains, it just billows from a core of emotion. Once in a great while we get to see/hear a voice that haunts us in its honesty. It is like he is pulling chains off his heart. Delicious!
I’m a BIG fan of these guys. He’s my future ex husband. 😂 He’s hardcore...performed while sick and everything. Seriously talented and he can really get his growl on in the metal they do. 🔥You would LOVE the official video for this one. It’s dark and emotional. Quite moving.
I thought the video rendition was astonishing. I grew up with the Simon and Garfunkel versions. Theirs was sort of mournfully wistful, sad. But this version is more in line with the message of the song, IMO.
He doesn't just sing it, he feels it and conveys that to the audience as well!
David has one of the most beautiful powerful voices ever ❤️🌹❤️
His voice is supernatural.
As you mentioned, All the layers in 1 voice! 5 verses in the poem, 5 stanzas in the song & 5 voices from the singer! I've heard it for several years now but can't get enough! It starts out like, the Sun is up, wake up Sonny, to EVERYONE OUT, THE HOUSE IS ABLAZE, come on kitty.
I've listened to this many many times and it pulls me in every time. I get the chills. Best cover EVER!!!
Another awesome reaction Nat!! David Draimans voice is out of this world. If you’re not familiar with Disturbed you should check out some other of their songs. I think you would really like them.
Agreed. There are two that really come to mind. "Fire Inside" and "A Reason To Fight".
He draws you in then let’s you have it, it’s really amazing!
"It's all about the story-telling" YOU nailed it. Love this version and the official video is powerful also because of the imagery they used to tell the story.
Glad to see you react to this one, Nat. It still brings tears to my eyes & gives me goosebumps, and I lost count months ago, as to how many times I've listened to it. I love S & G's original version. Also think Penatonix version is killer. But, for me, this is the 'perfect' rendition of the song. And David's voice.. well, what's there to say about it aside from he is great..?
Dude I love you! I've watched countless reaction videos to this song, and yours is by far the best! Most interestingly produced video I've seen in some time. Thank you for 13 minutes of pure joy!
Thank you greatly for sharing this experience with me! Much love! 🥰
Love your take on this song. You articulated the power & quality of David’s voice so well
Super great reaction! I really appreciate your insights into this song/video... Incredible performance by Disturbed.... Fearless, powerful, and entertaining!
I’ve watched your reaction many times and love it! You definitely appreciate his talent!
I just found this song in early July 2023. Your reaction is so in the moment and I understood what you were saying and I experienced many similar feelings. I just can't seem to play this song enough with the addition of the Official Video. I have watched these probably 100 times and I am still carried away as the song builds to the amazing end. I am 78 and I knew the original. I have watched a number of others using Disturbed's music and even those are pointing back to Disturbed. There is a man who plays an harmonica ("Harpoli") with his video scenes and as I am listening to his harmonica, I can hear David singing the words and it makes me appreciate it even more and more. Great reaction and great cover, Disturbed.
Such an in-depth and honest reaction and I love it, I highly recommend checking out some other Disturbed songs to get a good feel for his full vocal range. I’ve been a disturbed fan for over a decade now and his voice never ceases to give me chills😄
Absolutely love David Draiman and Disturbed...im sure you're aware David was trained to be a cantor...which is no easy feat!! Saw them with 3 days Grace a little over 2 yrs ago...just AMAZING live!! Fun fact...discovered Dimash while typing in Disturbed in RUclips...huge metalhead other than Dimash. David is my 2nd favorite vocalist!!❤❤❤❤
David’s voice talent is other worldly. My 73 year old mother LOVES this song when he does it. So there-digest that as well, he’s amazing 😁👍🤘🥰!!!!
I sent the link to my almost 81 year old father about 6 weeks ago, since he was a big fan of the original, and also a singer himself, and his youngest brother was a folk musician and singer his entire life until he was forced to retire due to severe health problems a few years ago. Dad was blown away, as I knew he would be, and appreciated it for all the right reasons, and didn't let David's appearance or preconceived notions get in the way. We really don't give our parents enough credit for knowing and understanding at least as much as we know and understand- which is silly, since they raised us to be the kind of people we are!
@@marcialavine1272 yes👍I knew my mom would love it, as she’s very much of open minded musical taste, and knows great singers when she hears it 😁
I’m into the same decade. I love it too
I love the music video cause of the guitar coming in towards the end, adds a ton on top of his amazing voice.
Oh yes I could never hear it too much. I agree with you 100%
Hey! You truly get his his emotions and this is the best reaction video. Fantastic.
This was Years ago I realize, but I love your knowledge . I don’t know the specifics of voice control & terms like “flip”. You are the only one to remark on the flip at “the” sound of silence. Love it!
I really enjoy your reactions, you are so into what you are doing. It's great to see someone be so honest and real about how a song makes them feel. Try Disturb's cover of Land of Confusion.
Your reaction just may be my favorite!
I think it's because for the first time I feel relatable to Mr. David Draimen. He is of a particular genre receiving accolades for skills he's always had but never acknowledged.
I am a published writer with skills ignored because I am unknown. Yet, when those of you who FINALLY come across my writing, you'll be asking yourself, "Why haven't I discovered this sooner?!"
You really will have to watch the Offical video to this it’s absolutely amazing, great reaction 😊
Amen. It should be required to watch first. Unbelievable!
Thank you, I have watched this more than once. I appreciate the education and emotion.
Yes! He did that while being very sick! This live performance and Kelly Clarkson's live performance of Piece by piece at the American idol farewell season gives me goosebumps every time 👌
Love the fact that there’s no long drawn out into! Subbed!!!
I came by to say hi to one of my favorite reactions to this version. I adore your reaction. Have a blessed day 😊
Love your reaction! I felt the same the first time I listened to it.
He hit the nail on the head with “ that tone is delicious” mmm molten chocolate filling your ears!
Darkness, voices, Tenthousand fists, Sickened and The reason to fight. These dudes have always made a standup songs.
I would absolutely love for you to listen to more that 45 seconds at a time.
45? We're talking no more than 7 seconds at a time. Great reaction with compelling commentary...but this dude couldn't take his finger off the space bar.
Just watch the Original yourself…
@@HWOMJAW Thanks Captain Obvious. This guy doesn't have a clue as to what he's supposed to be doing.
His Voice.... Worth dying for ❤️
You’re the only reviewer that caught the vocal flip he did in the third verse and I’ve watched tens of reaction videos
When I first heard it I thought it was very intentional to “disturb” the lyric disturbed.
I would love to see your reaction to the music video they did.
New sub!! Loved your educated reaction!! Your ability to express your feelings so beautifully caught my heart just as the song does!
You are RIGHT. He is a story teller. Listen to his voice! It's classically trained, yet grit, rock edge that is SO relatable NOW!
He waxes quite demonic. That's their thing. ••• I enjoyed that. Thanks!
I wish I could listen to this again for the first time!!! Great reaction!! ❤
I first heard David in the movie Queen of the Damned. So I looked for other songs by him. He is so great. I'm 58 years old and I love to listen to his band, just because of his voice.
Exactly..
This is why I totally appreciate u...
Great reaction! Glad to see it! Well done
I know this is an older vid of yours by the time I am seeing it, but Disturbed and David Dramen, are absolutely the sort of music you *feel* as you listen. He does songs about depression, anger, suicide, hope, and you *feel* with him. His song Reason to Fight has a longer vid, where fans tell bits of their story, and how they connect with the song, and I can't help but sob every time, the sort of "I feel seen" sob of deep connection.
His voice is other worldly. Plain and simple. What amazes me is he was in mid to late 40’s when he did this. He’s been singing metal for years! That he hasn’t trashed his voice is a testament to his father for the classical training David received. It’s saved his vocal chords! I thoroughly enjoy your reactions! Your appreciation and enthusiasm is contagious and more importantly, authentic. I dig you and your channel. 👍
This song is something you experience, not something you hear. It, at least in this version, is as beautifully theatrical as “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera. It is inspiring, astounding and thought provoking.
I'd like to see your reaction to Johnny Cash's cover song "Hurt". The official video was done so well. The song was written by Nine Inch Nails, but Johnny claimed it his.
“That tone is delicious...”...no truer words said!
I didn’t see any reaction videos for Jinger and their now infamous song “Pisces.” Talk about extraordinary talent, that band has got it. Looking forward to seeing your reaction if you ever do decide why there are so many views for that group and their song Pisces.
He is pushing his tongue toward the back of his mouth to get that yrrrr grrr sound. David has chosen to use his instrument in heavy metal. So, this was a crazy beautiful song by the band. I feel this shows the true diversity of not just Favids vocal ability, but, of the band as a whole. It was even given the Paul Simon seal of approval.
Holy shit. My reaction. Loved yours. This song is truly meaniingful
Omg love your reaction! Love from Australia
It is not just the voice, it is his absolute mastery of it.
He is a trained Jewish cantor. Despite having a hugely high temperature and a heavy cold during this performance, he is still in complete control...
I still don't know what Draiman was auditioning for that day. I don't. But he really dragged out the whole toolbox for this performance, and it was absolutely a masterclass.
Ok not going to lie first time seeing your channel and man I love this dude ahah so sick ! That’s a sub
