There are millions of songs that the human race has composed and performed over thousands of years of music.
There are a rare few that give people a certain reaction, you get goosebumps and your hair stands on end, some even bring people to tears either because of the message the song holds or just because you realise you are listening to something extremely special.
This is most definitely one of those songs.

People love to write off metal as just noise, but metal artists are so incredibly talented. So many are classically trained and complete music nerds! That's one of the reasons I love the genre so much. I introduced my professional opera singer mother to heavy metal when I was a kid and she became obsessed and eventually was the one to teach me all the ways it's similar to classical and operatic music. Now my mom is Disturbed's biggest fan and I loved watching this video because your reactions reminded me so much of my mom's first impressions when hearing them for the first time. The best way I've heard the song described is this:
Simon and Garfunkel sang the song as a warning.
Disturbed sang it as anger because the warning wasn't headed.
I entirely understand what you mean about covers. Most of the best are ones that transformed the song into an entirely new form. Nobody cares if someone sings a song in the same way we're used to. It's when they make it into something new that we remember them.
I loved your reaction. I could see all the times that you wanted to pause the video and make a comment but didn't want to interrupt the music.

I recommend giving the singer Roy Khan a listen. He sang for Kamelot until he stepped back for health reasons years ago. He has a brilliant expressive and unique voice and way of singing IMO. It's a long time since he sang for them, but the live performances I can recommend are Kamelot's "The Haunting (feat Simone Simmons)" and Kamelot's "Elizabeth (I, II & III)". And, of course, if you want even more upbeat there's always the songs "Forever" and "Center of the Universe". But I'd recommend the other two first.

One can tell that this man has a genuine love of the gift of music and appreciates it's diversity...impressive. He also has the gift of being able to "teach" and use terminology in a way that's understandable to the layman...one who might not have a true grasp of the skill and technical intricacies that it takes to construct a song and/or lyrics. But, most of us who have gone through the educational system in this country will understand when I say that there are educators out there that are very much "tellers" and not "teachers." This man is certainly a "teacher." I applaud you sir...and, thank you. The educational system could very much use a lot more of this man's ilk in guiding our children through school and hopefully, also turning them into better people.

David was extremely upset at the producers of the show because they used auto-tune to correct the scratchiness of his voice, he was sick when he performed this live on the show, and he's a perfectionist but he does not like using Auto Tune and such as those, he's a self-proclaimed perfectionist when it comes to trying to get the best out of his voice in performance and he was extremely upset. That goes to show you the level of professionalism that man has, he comes from a long line of Jewish cantors and it is said in his family that he sounds a lot like his grandfather either on his mother or his father's side I cannot recall which at this time.

@Todd Hendricks I'm worried for you lol. I've been a Disturbed fan for 20 years and their discography is very different from what this song presents if you are looking for chill sounds 😂😂

2 points: First that David (the singer) received a personal email from Paul Simon appreciating the rendition shortly after this performance.
and second, the best way I've heard this described in respect to the original is that the original was a warning, this version was the anger that the warning was not heeded.

It's why I love both versions. The original has that soft warning gloomy tone to it. And the new one has the power and rage. I love that we have both now.

Joshua Duncan, exactly. The other great side-by-side is "Imagine" by John Lennon and Tool. Lennon's version was hopeful and inspiring, while Maynard's take was with a sarcastic, cynical undertone.

I have to say that I absolutely love seeing the genuine joy in his face when listening to the song. I've watched many reaction videos to many different songs by other youtubers and most of them have such fake exaggerated expressions so watching this pure reaction was truly a pleasure.
