Disturbed -The Sound of Silence video has over 1 BILLION views in 8 YEARS. 1 Billion seconds is equal to 32 years. This means, that more than three almost four people, had to click play, every second of every day for 8 years. WOW!!!
Not just a phenomenal vocalist but also a genuinely humble and educated man but remember that Disturbed is not just David Draiman, the others are just as amazing.
I’m 61 and have heard the original Simon and Garfunkel version my entire life. But until I saw this video a few months ago, I had no idea of how powerful the lyrics really are. I became a Disturbed fan at the age of 61!! I have done deep dives into David Draiman. He is smart, very well spoken, an amazing songwriter and one of the best voices in the industry! I adore him and the other three members of Disturbed. Check out the live version of this song on the Conan show. It’s on RUclips. Great reaction from both of you.
67, but same here. I never really cared for the original. Just didn't grab me, but this does. As many have said S&G's was a warning and this is the response of ignoring said warning. I too never really paid attention to the words, but they are really meaningful.
When I first saw it I rather thought it was like the devil, that gentle voice, almost chiding, the devil, just saying it like it is. The facts of a terrible truth we knew was coming, that we created.
If Paul Simon wrote that song to us all as a warning ,as most people think it is ,THIS must have been the rendition he had in mind if that warning was ignored .
I was unwilling to listen to this cover by Disturbed at first because I felt it was sacriledge to go near Simon and Garfunkel. But one day driving this came over the stereo in my car and I was ready to tear it down. How wrong I was !! This is one of the finest covers ever made. You all know how great this really is, and now I do. I am a musician (mainly guitar) and we tend to get our egos in the way and think we know everything. I am at the point now where I like Disturbed`s version as much as S&G`s original. I heard Paul Simon said this is how the song was meant to be done. But they were holding on by the skin of their teeth when they recorded it. So If P.S. feels that way , I will take heed.
That says it all doesn't it, he produced and wrote it and he and Garfunkel performed it first in 1964. It was my favorite and they were my favorite singers at the time. No one, but no one could beat this version though, it is phenomenal. I read where David was a trained Jewish Cantor with opera training as well.
Not only that, but after he heard this he told Disturbed "It's your song now." I cannot imagine a greater compliment from one musician to another. It's like S&G stamped one side of a coin, and left the other blank. 50+ years later, Disturbed shocked the world by finally stamping the other side.
Goosebumps. Every dang time. So much passion. Here's some cool info I googled ❤💚.' Paul Simon was very pleased with Disturbed's cover of his song "The Sound of Silence": He said he liked the cover very much and that it was well done. He told Disturbed's lead singer, David Draiman, how much he liked the cover after it was released. He called the band's performance on Conan "really powerful" and shared a link to the video on social media, calling it "a wonderful rendition". He said the darkness of the video helped convey the song's message.
That is the sound of rage that we never took that warning seriously. A justified anger and a last warning since in the first time S&G gave us a soothing advice that was not heeded
It is amazing what a man who received training as a cantor can do with his voice. You also need to look at what Paul Simon said after hearing this cover of his song.
I love watching people react to this version of The Sound of Silence! I was blessed to see Disturbed live a little over a year ago. What an awesome concert! I had never heard of them before! David trained to be a cantor (hazzan) in the synagogue. The cantor leads the congregation in singing during the services. David’s family was shocked that he had decided to pursue a career in Heavy Metal Music! I just subscribed to your channel!
Paul Simon told him that he can now own his song lol because it was the way this song should have always been sung lol and I agree with him. What a great reaction guys
I’ll be going to see Disturbed in concert in April 2025 for their North American tour. I saw them back in the 2000’s after their first album was released. I think David (lead singer) has only gotten better with age. He’s just two years older than I am, so who knows how many more tours they will do. Well worth buying tickets to see them before you no longer can.
Instruments on one side and writers on the other who need each other but don’t communicate. They cross over and get together in the end. My thoughts on how I took it.
This is by far, the best cover of a song that in itself, is a classic from those odd days in the 60s. David's vocals is epic in this rendition. He was able to add metal creativity along with presenting an excellent voice for the song. You caught the intensity of the song just like it was meant to be done. Great review.
Wonderful reaction. They have a number of other songs worth checking out as well. I suggest Hold on to Memories and The Light. Both are amazing. At least to start. It's a rabbit hole worth investigating.
It was beautiful in his voice, I would like to see them react to the Brazilian Gabriel Henrique singing the acoustic version of Vision of love, grateful
Check out The Live Version on the Conan O'Brien Show. It Aired in March 2016. By The way, Paul Simon loves this Version so Much He put it on His Playlist. 🥰
As the son of a Baby Boomer 60’s folksy hippie mother, I grew up with all these songs in the 70’s, even into the 80’s she’d play those old records. S&G, John Denver, Mamas & Papas, Peter, Paul & Mary, all those. Of all the remakes of the old ones, this one nails it. If you haven’t, go back and listen to these types of songs of that era, they had a message, and it’s still relevant. Remember to put them in context of the day in the US, the civil rights movement, Cold War, the draft, Vietnam, the sexual revolution and others. There are days I wonder how we, as a species, made it out of the 60’s. I think a lot of that is what imprinted on my generation, X, our whole ‘whatever’ attitude. Who cares, we’re all gonna get nuked anyways.
You also gotta hear Geoff castelluci version of this . He is from a Acapella group named voice play but this is his solo work . He has a massive range. Subscribed after hearing this.
CUANDO SE TOCA Y ARAÑA EL ALMA HUMANA MODIFICANDOLA SE ESTÁ ANTE UNA OBRA MAESTRA. SU VOZZZZ TAN INCREIBLEMENTE ÚNICA MARAVILLOSA E INIGUALABLE NACE DE LO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LOS SENTIMIENTOS. DEBERÍA SER ESCUCHADA EN TODO EL MUNDO. ES MUUUY PODEROSA.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤DESDE ANDALUCÍA (ESPAÑA).
This song is so beautiful. It takes me back to my teenage years. I liked your reaction. I would like you to react to the Brazilian singer Gabriel Henrique, singing Vision Of Love, acoustic version, posted on his official channel, on October 20th, on RUclips.
Anyone else notice that each instrument in they played didn't gar added until after it was 'found' in the rubble during the video, starting with the piano at the start?
Great reaction! I would love to see you react to Geoff Castelucci's cover of this song. It's very different but just as good. And I PROMISE you won't be prepared for Geoff's voice. It's always fun to see reactors' faces when they hear his 5-octave (A0-A5) vocal range for the first time.
The amount of artistry in the video, the music, and his voice is often missed. The sound of silence at the start.... the octive higher, the destroyed instruments, the lack of your usual instrumental percussion, the message, so much more Oh the music sheet are the chords to the song
loved the review!! If you want to see another artist who reimagined another song and it is the same lyrics but so amazingly different, watch Falling In Reverse Last Resort.
IMO the video represents the ability of music, through musicians, to spread the message of the people, those that aren't listened to, to the masses in hope of spreading a hope or dream & to those that do have a voice or power to influence change. Again IMO the original was a warning of disconnecting from each other & the need to connect while this version is a wake up shout in anger that we have not listened to that (now) 60 year old warning & are now more disconnected than we have ever been & becoming even more disconnected while we ironically have the ability to be so much more connected so easily.
The lyrics of this song are screaming 60 years later especially after our recent election in the USA. The anger in David's voice on "The neon god they made" is a gut punch.
This song is chilling. Amazing! I loved your reactions. Please, if you can, I would like you to react to the Brazilian Gabriel Henrique singing the acoustic version of Vision Of Love by Mariah Carey. The video was released on October 20th on his official RUclips channel. It's amazing!
I’m sure I’m wrong but I always saw the broken instruments as the sound of silence in a literal sense. What I mean is if an instrument is broken you can’t play it, it just sits there silently collecting dust
This song is beautiful, and it sounded beautiful in that beautiful and powerful voice. I thought it was really cool. Please react to Gabriel Henrique singing Vision Of Love (acoustic version), released on his RUclips channel. Thank you. Hugs.
Hello good evening. I would love to see your reaction to Gabriel Henrique singing the song Vision Of Love acoustic version posted on October 20th on his official RUclips channel. He is so amazing ❤
Could you react to something totally different could you listen to sidnie christmas sing tomorrow, my way and over the rainbow on from BGT earlier this year
It's very relevant today, have you been on public transport lately....everyone is on their phones, no one speaks....silence because of technology....we are losing the art of communication

Certainly will! Great thoughts, thanks for sharing! 😁
ANd David was really sick in that live version. And was highly annoyed they autotuned him, even if just for a moment.❤💚
I became a fan at 71! A country music, blues music fan, i am so amazed! And I really like this guys personally. He's a very caring person.
His voice is that of a sad Angel at the beginning, but it is a Wrathful Angel at the end.
When I first saw it I rather thought it was like the devil, that gentle voice, almost chiding, the devil, just saying it like it is. The facts of a terrible truth we knew was coming, that we created.
David gave us every aspect of his vocal abilities ... lullaby, theater, rock, and heavy metal. A true master of his craft
If Paul Simon wrote that song to us all as a warning ,as most people think it is ,THIS must have been the rendition he had in mind if that warning was ignored .
After hearing this version, he told Disturbed "this song is now yours!"...
No he didn't @@bschuchi71
That is what I believe.👍🏼
@@bschuchi71 no he didn't. Get it right
@@aaronherbison7316he literally told David Draiman that he got the song the way it should've been.
The arrangements on this version are a very good example of the fact that sometimes music doesn't need heavy drums or heavy guitars to be heavy.

This is the song that I can listen nonstop. I'm so loving it! David's voice is just incredible!
Paul Simon told disturbed that this was their song now, I don’t think an artist can give a cover artist a higher compliment!
Not actually true. As I understand it, he did, however, compliment their version and even share it on his social media.
@@mialiahh9228you are correct. Trent Reznor told Johnny Cash the song Hurt was now his.
David did a GREAT job of performng this song.
Yes, and the boat was taking the instruments and musicians across to the silenced people with the sheet music
Paul Simon's lyrics are prophetic. David sings the song the way it should be sung.
Instruments on one side and writers on the other who need each other but don’t communicate. They cross over and get together in the end. My thoughts on how I took it.
Great voice ever. Clean. The song is deep. Spiritual deep to really understand. Great thanks

Great insight about when someone wants to cover another’s song, will they add value or just try to mirror what has already been done. Thank you.

You asked why they would cover this song, it's said he recorded this one because it's one his parents could listen to
