Yes David is classically trained. His father and his grandfather were Jewish cantors. David trained to carry on the tradition. Started training at age 12 and still works with a voice coach that travels with the band. I was fortunate to see them in concert last month!! My all time fave band!!

This is my favorite "version" of "Sound of Silence" mainly because David's voice follows the message and "mood" of each song line perfectly. As a result, the lyrics "move" me more powerfully and emotionally. Also, Anastasia, I loved your analysis, great details and the way you freely expressed yourself!!

Actually not even him knew could sing like that, when they decided to make this cover, and to get it done the way they wanted it to sound, he had to learn, practice and apply new ways of singing and techniques he didn’t knew, and obviously wouldn’t use before; he actually became a way better singer because of doing this cover and amplifying his knowledge and thechnics for singing.

  • @Kayjee17
    @Kayjee17 2 года назад +34

In an interview, David said he usually gets a song in 1 or 2 takes in the studio - but he said this one took around *40 takes*! He and his recording crew listened to each take and made suggestions on how to make it better, until it became the genius that we got. So I guess you could say that he did get instruction on how to sing it, but it was a group effort that brainstormed this masterpiece.

Fun Fact: David has admitted to being "a bit resentful" about his time at Jewish day schools, but nevertheless became trained as a hazzan and encouraged his family to observe Shabbat.
A hazzan is a Jewish musician or precentor trained in the vocal arts who helps lead the congregation in songful prayer. In English, this prayer leader is often referred to as a cantor, a term also used in Christianity.

I can't speak for other people, but I know that I look for reactors who can break down music/vocals on a technical level so that I can learn more about music.

He was sick to his stomach the night he appeared on the Conan show and had to work hard to make it through the song. Despite his refusal they used "autotune" on his performance.

It is so awesome to watch people who are vocally trained experience this absolutely incredible performance. Just watching your face react to each vocal gift that is hidden throughout this unexpected cover of such a classic song. David Draiman is indeed a very very trained vocalist. He has worked on his instrument for many years. He is every inch a professional. I love it. I love his music. I love his range. I loved watching you experience this. It was awesome. Thank you for sharing!! ❤️

David Draiman was trained as a Jewish Cantor--it's quite rigorous. As different as this is from their usual stuff, it may now be the most well-known thing they have done. Since you are familiar with with Beste Zangers, you must check out Henk Poort doing a cover of David's cover of Simon and Garfunkel. It's gorgeous. ruclips.net/video/q_BJaM-UrXc/видео.html

David Draimen was classically trained. He was also very sick with the flu on this live show. That's why he was sitting through the whole performance. He felt too weak to stand.

You would also adore his cover of Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You".
Another song that showcases great singing is "The Light"
I'd suggest the studio versions of each... you know now that he can totally do it live, and in both of them, the videos are very poignant and moving.
And yes, David is professionally trained, as a cantor.
It's always interesting to me to learn which rock singers are classically trained and which ones go on raw talent... specifically that _so many_ of the great ones do have extensive training. There are, of course, a rare few natural hyper-talents like Tatiana Shmayluk and Freddie Mercury who just go out there and wing it in more raw talent than any five normal singers. Then there are the even rarer cases like Dimash, who has _both_ the level of raw talent of a Tati or a Freddie _and_ tons and tons of training and refinement.
Fun fact: The producer turned on a little autotune at one point early on when David was just a touch flat on a note (likely because he was sick as a dog). If you watch closely, you can see the sharp glare he cast to him when he noticed it, as if to say "Dude, what the hell??" Then, a few seconds later, an eye-widening emphasis stare like "I said turn it _off!"_ Then a look of determination as if to say, "Fine, if you're gonna autotune me, I'm gonna be so perfect it just sits there and does nothing..."

Great reaction!!! You need to listen to the song David Draiman wrote after taking his young son to the the movie Coco. It's called Hold On To Memories. Beautiful and haunting......I'm 70 yrs old and discovered Disturbed in 2018.......I've requested in advance to have this played at my funeral (in the not so near future). If you make the decision to react to this video find the video of them singing live in concert and be prepared to shed tears.....so have a box of tissues close at hand! ❤️🎧❤️

This is one of my favorite bands in the world my personal favorite song from them is Indestructible such a powerful song that makes you feel like whatever life throws at you you'll overcome cause you're a Indestructible master of war.
David Draiman is classical trained Cantor singer he learned from Israel.
Now if you want to hear fantastic male singing check out Geoff Tate and Queensryche songs like Eyes of a Stranger, Slient Lucidity, and Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo 84.
P.S recently they just cover of The Police If I Ever Lose My Faith in You that's in similar style of this it's must to check out

David has a high level of professionalism and years of performance experience. He also was trained as a hazzan (Jewish cantor) which I think allows him to connect with the spiritual aspects of the song to induce an emotional reaction to the song.

Great reaction! I can never get enough of these reactions. This version to me not only highlights David's voice but let's the instruments be the focus, the original video let's you visually see the story. You should check that out as well. Other songs I'd love to see a reaction to is A reason to fight and hold on to Memories. Really showcases David's beautiful voice. So much emotion and not bad on the eyes either lol
