This is without a doubt the absolute best cover made of this song. I grew up on S & G and when I saw that Disturbed had redone it I asked myself why? Why would anyone try to remake an absolute classic that we all know and love. Then I heard it and I understood why. This version is better than the original and I never thought I would say that but here I am saying it.
This is one of my personal Top 3 covers of all time… the other two are Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt and Pentatonix doing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah
I agree, Johnny Cash's "Hurt" was so moving, Disturbed doing "Sound of Silence".....Wow, my favourite version. I will have to listen to Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Thank you for that!
I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. If you really HEAR what they are saying about people talking without speaking, people hearing without listening, you will realize that they were decades ahead of TEXTING!
I have this song set as my phone alarm so I hear it at least once a day. I always have to listen to the whole thing and it gives me goosebumps every damned time.
It took me a long time to listen to this because I love the #Pentatonix version so much. After hearing the #Disturbed version I had to admit I had room in my heart for both versions. I won't choose one over the other, because they both evoke different emotions.
To me, there are 3 versions that master this song through time. The original, which carried the warning: Disturb's version, which carries the anger: and Geoff Castellucci's version, which carries the sadness and loss. I love all three equally. Each is an absolute tour de force.
Hold on to memories is another softer song. This is my favourite cover of this song. Recommend watching him do this live on the Conan show. Even though he was really poorly and had to sit down to perform. ❤❤
❤🎶❤I totally agree with your comments, Hold on to the Memories popped into my mind too!! And the Conan version is excellent, I hear he wept too after! Not sure but emotions are definitely raw for him!! 👏David!
Even Paul Simon thinks Disturbed nailed this cover. This version somehow makes the lyrics more poignant to the songs meaning. It makes S&G's original seem prophetic.
u could also say S&G OG version was a warning and Disturbed cover was the answer like "Well, now u F up (I warned u)" something along these line o.o thats just what i feel now in 2024
New here! This is my favorite cover of this song. I like the version he sings live on the Conan Show best. It is AMAZING! Disturbed also does a great cover of Genesis’ Land of Confusion. Y’all should check that one out.
John Farnham did a classic approach to this song, early in his career; l think it was around 1970/71. If you haven't already reacted to John Farnham, I would recommend you react to his updated classical rock ballad version of The Beatles classic song Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
@@ValkryieRising It is very good, but I did hear the TV show appearances get copyright strikes.. I'd prefer a reactors first introduction to the amazing world of Dimash is stress free, otherwise they may be reluctant to watch other songs x
Aw, Stan you should have told him not to pause this video. This is one that really needs to be heard all the way through the first time. However, moot point now. And...Yep. Goosebumps. Yet again. Every time I see it, and I've seen it probably at least 100 or more times, including the live and video versions. Geoff Castellucci has a excellent version too! But this is my favorite version. Sorry Geoff! Also, I'm not a metal head, but I do like Disturbed. Might I recommend you check out their cover of "Land of Confusion," by Genesis? #Disturbed❤💚
This is my favorite version. Geoff Castellucci's version was a swing and a miss for me, and while Peyton Parrish's cover is a very very close second, this one is the one that gets the message across in all the right ways.
I'm the odd one... I find this version to be a bit... disturbed. (Pun unintentional.) I understand why this is a favorite of others, but I prefer S&G original version best. My favorite cover is by The Hound and The Fox featuring Adam Chance. (Here's a version with a female voice.) I like the Hollens/ Foust cover, too, but find the Pentatonics cover to be over-produced. Just my opinion; I know I'm in the minority.
@ I love the original. I still have the first vinyl album they released with this song, but at 75 my music tastes have never stopped evolving. Have tickets to see Disturbed next May and Heart in March.
I've seen a lot of idiots on RUclips, but you, you're a champion, you could avoid cutting a song to tell your bullshit! You listen to the song until the end, and you comment at the end, it's not possible that there can be so many idiots on RUclips
@LOLOVAL-os3pq so what you are saying we are the best idiots you have seen?. What an honour to be the best at something. What's even better i will have a lovely sleep tonight, and you have just wasted minutes of your life watching our crap. Have a lovely day ! Winner winner chicken dinner 🍽
You don’t just listen to this, you absorb it, it’s a work of art, a masterpiece……..

Am I the only one who finds it very satisfying watching a calligraphy pen writing musical notes?❤💚
Watch him perform this live on the Conan Show it is mind blowing and he was sick during the performance and still crushes it!!
Quite sick, too! Didn't he have like a 103 fever?❤💚
The conan show performance of this is even a touch better believe it or not!
One of the best ever. His performance on Conan was even more impressive because he was profoundly ill that night.

The live version they do live on Conan is even better.
Best cover I've ever heard (I'm 78...heard a few).
I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. If you really HEAR what they are saying about people talking without speaking, people hearing without listening, you will realize that they were decades ahead of TEXTING!
watch him doing this live on COHEN OBRIAN SHOW
That is very good, but this video puts the song in an absolute stongest story of a song ever. Love the video, such excellent work.
I have this song set as my phone alarm so I hear it at least once a day. I always have to listen to the whole thing and it gives me goosebumps every damned time.
This is definitely my favorite cover! It’s such a powerful delivery of the song. I, too, get goosebumps mostly during the second half of the song!
Disturbed has other songs that show a little softer side. Hold on To Memories and A Reason to Fight. Both might make you cry.
This is a great cover! I also like the live one with him and Myles Kennedy. It has great harmonies.
The way the song shoukd be sung. With raw emotion and anger at the inability for people to listen.
Having said that, you should watch the live version on Conan
Definitely, it’s Even Better
Absolutely The Best Cover song I have ever heard. Definitely check out his performance on Conan. Somehow, it's even better. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
"Hold on to the Memories"....
It took me a long time to listen to this because I love the #Pentatonix version so much. After hearing the #Disturbed version I had to admit I had room in my heart for both versions. I won't choose one over the other, because they both evoke different emotions.
You must watch their performance of this song on the Conan O'Brien Show❤❤❤
To me, there are 3 versions that master this song through time. The original, which carried the warning: Disturb's version, which carries the anger: and Geoff Castellucci's version, which carries the sadness and loss. I love all three equally. Each is an absolute tour de force.
I saw Disturbed at a festival this year, and they were great!! David Draiman was a trained cantor. He can really sing.
The music video is good but the live version from Conan is my favorite.
Hold on to the memories is another lighter song by Disturbed (lighter being relative, it's not heavy netal). Still very full of meaning.
Definitely the best cover of this song, Dan Vasc s is amazing too! great reaction!! 👏❤
This is the only version that comes close to being comparable to the original. This cover hits the heart just like the original.
I remember when they were so young. This song was a masterpiece. Now it's INCOMPARABLE. Better than the original
Love this song. Hold on to Memories is a beautiful song also. Not Heavy Metal.
Hold on to memories is another softer song.
This is my favourite cover of this song.

Guy, would LOVE to see you react to Dimash .. good place to start is SOS (2021 version)
@piplevett4783 we will have a look thanks for the recommendation
Slavic Bazar is The BEST version Dimash does of SOS
@@ValkryieRising It is very good, but I did hear the TV show appearances get copyright strikes.. I'd prefer a reactors first introduction to the amazing world of Dimash is stress free, otherwise they may be reluctant to watch other songs x
To me this is how it was meant to be sung.
Thanks guys, awesome response. Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
I love this cover. Critique: too many pauses and commentary, imo.

I also love the original song from 1964
This video is from 1965: ruclips.net/video/nwP3vPQi0nI/видео.html
Listen to the live version on Conan OBrian show.
I'm the odd one... I find this version to be a bit... disturbed. (Pun unintentional.) I understand why this is a favorite of others, but I prefer S&G original version best. Paul Simon loved this version and let Disturbed know it. He sings a much different, slower live version of this song now than he did in 1964.
@suemoore6445 I can see why Simon would like it. I'm just in a lonely minority. 😊
@ I love the original. I still have the first vinyl album they released with this song, but at 75 my music tastes have never stopped evolving. Have tickets to see Disturbed next May and Heart in March.
Too many interruptions. Save comments for the end.
Could Lee possibly keep his fingers out of his nose? If they aren’t in his nose then he is chewing his nails ! 🤢
I like to watch people react to songs, the nose picking did ruin this one for me....
Stop picking your nose 👃
