    This was such a good video Doug. I’ve been feeling the exact same way about the “enthusiast” crowd around these cars and what these cars have become lately. The gt3 is essentially unattainable and the entire market has been saturated with people buying these cars to flaunt their wealth as opposed to what they’ve always been, being the holy grail of the ultimate driver’s car. Hope to see more of their models start to trend this way in the future

      This is mainly a Problem in Countries where it's legal to do that for Dealers. Here it's not legal and we got several Porsche Dealers who on purpose sell even limited edition Porsche Models for MSRP and they also look into Customers who want to buy it to avoid "Private Carflippers" which luckily in Germany is easy to find out.
      As much as i love a lot about Capitalism, i'm glad in Germany certain kinds of Capitalism is regulated to avoid a lot of the Greedy Nonsense that currently is a huge Problem in the USA, especially with Car Dealers.
      In fact all the German Car Manufacturers are currently united in trying to find a way to not allow US Dealers get Cars from Porsche and then offer it for 2x the MSRP as it damages their Brand, which is true.

    i love the point doug touches on towards the end, re: the bar to entry of "cool" porsches progressively raising over the years, to the point where it's now "gt or gtfo", which is absolutely ridiculous. it absolutely has become a flex brand at the top end, where it's more about boasting you got the thing itself rather than actually enjoying it as intended- nowadays most gt3(rs) drivers care more about the social status/perception the car garners them more than anything. doug offers such a refreshing take on the 911 lineup and porsche as a whole- i love it.

      It’s magic. Increasingly unaffordable magic, but the heritage of building these cars for driving is still there. They are serious cars for serious drivers still. Yes a dentist will drop a lot of cavity filling money on a Turbo S, but we still have GT3 and friends and they are basically cup cars that are street legal. Anyone logging miles on a GT3 has my respect.

Those old Porsche 914's were so much fun to be in, could drive on rails and corners so beautifully. My friends dad had one. My friend didn't care a whole lot about it, but i did. The GTS and CS are amazing cars, but it's just comical to me that they are over 150k to spec one out the way it should come from the factory for it's starting price. I love me a 992 but because the new ones cost so much and are so hard to get, my dream garage has become a 981 GT4 and a 997 or 991 C4S or Turbo for a daily driver.

  • @jeffreykilpatrick3592
    @jeffreykilpatrick3592 Год назад +7

    Yep- I traded my GT4 to a dealer for a 911 T allocation. Why? The GT4 is a true track car - noisy to the point where I started wearing earplugs and too hard to get into and too small inside besides. I am 6’1” and 250 lbs - so there is that. But it is not a 911. In a 911 I can slide the seat back to where my feet don’t touch the pedals. In a 911 the dashboard is far away from you and the cabin is very inviting. The electronics are all state of the art- standard lab for example/ and a huge screen but the gt4 is old seven years ago design. And the gt4 rides hard all the time. While the 911 in comfort mode is just that comfortable- but in sport and at over 4,000 rpm it is a screaming race car. The gt4 is always harsh and hard - always.
    And this new T is fun to drive with a manual with downshift matching capability. So sort of like an automatic.
    And by the way the base engine is superb. It has smaller turbo blades than say the S or GTS - so the base engine spins up instantly - no taking a deep breath like the s or GTS does when you plant your foot down on the pedal on your he freeway or hitting a straight on a mountain road.
    The sport mode with this base engine makes fantastic back fire and popping noises when down shifting which get louder over time as the engine breaks in. A fantastic sound but the darn GT4 just howls but no pops and bangs etc- ever. The engine in the gt4 just kind of drones away - not pleasant to my ears.
    The GT4 is designed to be driven for short periods of time on a track - but is too expensive and too pretty to chip and ding on a track. The T is designed to drive on a twisty country road or a mountain road which is where all us Porsche guys really drive our cars with our local porsche club.
    And it is the “real “ Porsche - a 911 not a baby Porsche like the cayman.
    I do also own a 718 Boxster GTS and that is more fun to drive than the GT4. So trading the GT4 was easy emotionally - and I also get a new car.
    Big question - Python green or GT Silver?

    I've been a Porsche lover since I was in my early teens and got my first 911, a 78 SC, at 20 in 2003 but I haven't really cared about an 911s since the 996 or maybe the 997. I was very lucky to be able to drive lots of Porsches starting at 16. My first experience with a 996 was when it first came out and I originally thought that was too big and soft but I had just gotten out of a 930 so that might have had something to do with it. I've come to really like the 996 and now have a C4 Cab. I still like the air cooled cars more but the 996 is wonderful. I'm very glad I watched this video because I might just take a look at a T when before watching I mostly glossed over any new 911 stuff. I'm not sure I can bring myself to spend even that much on one but maybe the Porsche stitching buyers won't care about this and they will drop on the used market 🤔🤞

    This car is $16k more than our 2022 C2S with manual transmission and we have some custom features. A lot of dumb options are the difference. Carbon buckets are not only uncomfortable and expensive, they don’t fold forward so you lose access to all space in the back. The folded down rear seats when there give you a place to put suitcases. Large suitcases will fit. Carbon fiber roof is a total waste of money. It saves like ten pounds-for $7,000. Deviated stitches are also stupid.

      If everyone on RUclips keeps talking about how great these “T”’s are the price will inflate. Honestly I’ve been looking for one lately and they are more like $110k depending on options, some are at or close to $100k, but there aren’t very many used ones for sale and most have the stupid PDK like Doug said they would. people are holding them hoping they will appreciate would be my guess. This might be my only hope of buying a 911, the used GTS models are going for big money, and I prefer this more stripped down model with performance options. I pray PORSCHE makes this model for a couple more years, so they don’t become some stupid ‘collectors’ model….

    I don't know if the Sport Classic has already arrived on US shores, but I'd say that's the ultimate 992 911. It's got great styling, thanks to what is essentially the Turbo/S body (but isn't ostentatious like a GT3), the Turbo/S engine, making it more powerful than most 992s, it's RWD and only comes with a manual. BUT, it's crazy expensive.

    • @illusioNery
      @illusioNery Год назад

      Not only that, but good luck finding one that hasn't been marked up to hell because of the "exclusivity" of it. I have a Turbo S because I want it to look nice and can fun with it by also taking it to the track or go through the canyons when it's relatively empty as well. If I want a manual car, I can buy either an old Porsche or any other manual car and take it to the canyons/track. There's something for everyone but the Carrera T is a nice substitute if you want something new and with a manual only.

      The one difference that you can feel is that the turbine wheel in the turbo of the base 911 equates to less spool/lag than the S and 4S. The base motor drives better than the S... and a tune on the base motor is about 500hp with tune only. It's an excellent platform for modifications. Stock... the base motor is the perfect blend for flogging. It's not die either, magazines are getting the base pdk cars to 60 in 3.3-3.5s

    • @JaykobStevens

      @@karkoncierge7585 I work as a technician at a Porsche dealership and due to the variable vane geometry of the turbos I would not say that the turbos spool any faster in a base, in fact due to the factory tuning I'm pretty sure (although not certain) that the turbos spool faster on an S. Either way in no world would I want the base engine over the S. You can have someone tune it but that's expensive to have done right and you lose your factory warranty and I really wouldn't mess with that kind of thing on a brand new car. All that being said, anyone who complains about the power on a base 911 is just wrong, the 3.0l turbo is just an awesome engine, heaps of fun and if you find a used base 911 outside of warranty a tune could be an easy way to get some extra kicks
