Good luck getting it. I've called everywhere and it's list-based and has been snapped up by the dealerships themselves. I expect a very, very heavy markup like most vehicles.
I'm seriously considering trying to source one of these to use in Northern Alberta Canada, in the winter. My 2020 911 is setup, as you;d expect on summer-only tires... but something about this Dakar, and studded winters equals quite an adventure come snow season. I wonder if this is even attainable in Canada?
It would be really cool if Subaru came out with a Wilderness trim for the BRZ. Give it a ~1" to 3" lift, black plastic body cladding, skid plates, a better approach angle, and all terrain tires, and you'd have an absolute winner.
Subaru needs to WRX the Crosstrek already. Now that they've pretty much given up on the WRX they might as well put that engine in the Crosstrek and kind-of revive the WRX hatch that people have been begging for.
Front bin has been a Porsche parts option for years. I had it in my first 991 as dealership ordered it with build. I assume its included on all Dakar builds.

Hey Doug, great vid! Is this becoming the new thing now? Off road super cars? 2 of the best selling supercars now offer off road capable models. If the Huracan and the 911 have off road models, then there’s more than likely going to be an off road model offered on the Artura, Vantage, Roma/296/Portofino or whatever Ferrari’s equivalent is to the huracan since the F8 is gone).
Ferrari would never do this. They're too stuck up. They're only now coming out with an SUV and they even refuse to call it an SUV. I could see McLaren doing it. Idk about Aston Martin doing it either. Idk if they have the money to really be experimenting with that kind of thing.
I would say these two are the only ones. They’re limited production, and they’re under the same parent company. Maybe they’re trying to get it started, but I doubt it will become the next big thing. Would be cool though!!!
what history? getting stuck in mud by carwow or stuck on wet grass on Harrys farm? or the recent porsche history of them making cars so badly now that theyve managed to remove Land Rover from the bottom spot of the reliability charts? 😂 absolute junk!
Man, I see so many people lamenting about grey cars. Sometimes, sure, but then you get colors like this. It's friggin' gorgeous. The matte really works well. A further selling point for an already desirable car. Kinda in love with it.
It looks like Porsche forgot to polish it before it left the factory. I never understood not-shiny paint, it makes an expensive car look like an old spray-painted Civic bought off Craigslist for $500 and a bag of weed.
Partially incorrect. 19 degrees is the maximum for the 911 dakar, the number porsche used for the suvs is different: for the macan they used steel springs (16.5°, 19° with air suspensions), for the cayenne they used the normal ground clearance setup. The cayenne got a better ramp angle than the 911 dakar when air suspensions are in their highest setting (20.5°)
Doug was in such a hurry to review the Dakar that he didn't shave is beard properly 😂😂 I really enjoy watching him review cars. Nobody reviews the cars in such a details as Doug does.
this is the perfect car to park alongside my bronco raptor in the garage. But since it's too expensive, i'd rather buying an used 997 4s manual and start my own dakar project! Maybe i'm lucky enough to find one with carbon bucket seats and powerkit
don't they sell aftermarket kits for improving ground clearance on the STi? I'd off-road pretty much everything, even my wife 2018 audi A5 coupe manual (they can fit audi a4 allroad suspensions indeed).
With how crappy the roads are everywhere, this is great! I had a hard time driving Tesla Model 3 since its wheels are not great for bad roads so going to the Wrangler is a night and day difference, I can go over anything. Going over anything you want and not worry is the best peace of mind.
This to me is the coolest thing that car industry can offer in terms of fun at the moment in time. Lifted 911 IS ABSOLUTELY insane but I want it so fucking bad. Cut the fenders, add a 3 inch lift, fit some 33” mudders, and drop the price by 200k… and I’ll think about it 😂😊😅
Porsche in fact won the Paris-Dakar twice, first with a hacked-up 911 in 1984, and then with the 959 in 1986.
Thanks Doug , watching from Dakar Sénégal
That guy at 13:03 took lifetime shots 😂
It seems there is starting to be a following for "overland" Porsches. What people are doing with older Cayennes is so cool, its beyond words. I would love to have an overlander Cayenne.
I pure fantasy dream would be to buy two of these and go driving with my dad in the Aussie outback!
Check out that piece about the 996 on Simpson desert.
That removable bucket in the frunk is an OEM Porsche accessory and I have one for my Carrera S :)
2500 units for the whole world is pretty rare, especially since most of them won't be driven anyways
It will get even rarer as those that do get driven will get totaled sooner or later.
I hope this car will be used for its intended purpose!
We all know...none of them will.
@@biglee13m A sand dune in Dubai racing against a Huracan Sterrato is the only place these will go off-road.
Someone will have fun on gravel with it, but they will be in the minority. Sadly I know several roads where this would be a hoot.
It’ll be a garage queen flipped at 50%+ beyond MSRP for the foreseeable future.
its intended purpose? what being in a garage in saudi? 😂 this junk heap is not only biblically unreliable, it got stuck in mud on carwow and harry got it stuck on wet grass in his farm hahahaha. Ridiculous the junk you Americans praise. New porsches arw rock bottom of the reliability charts bellow Land Rover.
Now THIS has some quirks and features
Good luck getting it. I've called everywhere and it's list-based and has been snapped up by the dealerships themselves. I expect a very, very heavy markup like most vehicles.
This is what I think off when people talk about SUVs. Not the nonsens SUVs actually are.
Why? This is the dumbest idea ever. Just buy a dedicated vehicle for the terrain, either a Tacoma or 4Runner will do fine.
Do you think porsche representatives are waiting for your comments here?
I doubt it but it would easily be the coolest winter beater out there
@@ace9xx You never know. Doug used to work for Porsche North America.
@@ritchierichh It's a smart idea. You can use it year-round and only have to buy one car.
Mustang is going to have a similar off roader soon...
Front bin has been a Porsche parts option for years. I had it in my first 991 as dealership ordered it with build. I assume its included on all Dakar builds.
How much did you pay for your Porsche bin? :)
@@ace9xx It was rolled into by build but I think they are $350
I ordered one for my 911.2 when I picked it up.
@@cpages2 didnt know Forza used dollar signs i thought it was credits?
@@bigduphusaj162 I have no idea what that means lol

Doug gets to drive all the fun toys. I'm jealous how giddy he is on the drive.
People always want off roaders to be rock crawlers. Some of us just wanna have fun on dirt roads and trails. I still couldnt afford this, but itd do that well lol.
Honestly, I miss the breakdown of each category in the Doug Score. It was interesting to see WHY Doug gave each score.
Agreed. There's almost no point to seeing the Doug Score if he's just going to show us the chart and tell us the final number.
Same
I miss the times when he says "Starting with the weekend categories and styling..."
They missed the chance to finally give the 911 a trailer hitch 😂
Every Englishman yelling 'that is not how you pronounce Dakar' 😁 - great video as always
16:55 "Roughroads" is lame. There should be an option to delete that word or perhaps change to to another word, like you said. It could read "Porsche" with "Dakar" below it.
Doug seems to NEVER talk about the BMW X6???
Would love if the grand tour or top gear tested it. They would really put it through its paces.
True, i miss Clarkson's reviews
Carwow did a couple drag races off road with the car. I highly recommend!!
They can't, writers are on strike. They wouldn't have a script to read and act out when it calls for shenanigans.
@@Mquin02 I'm sure they can find a writer who's willing to work and looking for their big break but has been kept out by the union.
it got stuck in mud on carwow and Harry from Harrys garage said it got stuck in wet grass on his farm that his Jag gets over hahahahaha😂
Ferrari is too good. Jk. Cant wait. Would be cool from the crossover platform. More clearance and capabilities
Ferrari would never do this. They're too stuck up. They're only now coming out with an SUV and they even refuse to call it an SUV. I could see McLaren doing it. Idk about Aston Martin doing it either. Idk if they have the money to really be experimenting with that kind of thing.
@@watchesandcaps2566 McLaren and Aston Martin never had any off-roading heritage, so I’d say it’s unlikely
I would say these two are the only ones. They’re limited production, and they’re under the same parent company. Maybe they’re trying to get it started, but I doubt it will become the next big thing. Would be cool though!!!
@@victornjensen Lamborghini doesn't have any off-road heritage either.
We seriously need more lifted/rally style coupe cars from factory. So freaking cool.
Go get a Subaru
let's make a petition for chevy building an off-roader corvette e-ray!!!!!!!!!!
@@alp.9672 I said COUPE (2 DOORS) like the old celicas....
Doug dropping the "damn" multiple times in his videos recently are giving me a thrill
The 911 has been my favorite car since childhood... I gotta be honest...
... I LOVE THIS THING!!!!
I was expecting 23 other friends to pop up from behind the car to review it together
Well, Kennan, Hoovie or Alanis or whoever again...
When Porsche announced their first SUV, I was hoping of this. Then the actual history happened.
what history? getting stuck in mud by carwow or stuck on wet grass on Harrys farm? or the recent porsche history of them making cars so badly now that theyve managed to remove Land Rover from the bottom spot of the reliability charts? 😂 absolute junk!
Man, I see so many people lamenting about grey cars. Sometimes, sure, but then you get colors like this. It's friggin' gorgeous. The matte really works well. A further selling point for an already desirable car. Kinda in love with it.
Yes, it's a beeeeaaautiful color! For people who hate colors...
It looks like Porsche forgot to polish it before it left the factory. I never understood not-shiny paint, it makes an expensive car look like an old spray-painted Civic bought off Craigslist for $500 and a bag of weed.
Mah, that's boring. Nothing better than a british green 991.2 carrera 4s with chalk/blue interior and mahogany wood.
Finally a Porsche 2 door made for Pennsylvania roads!
I want this car… need this car
fun fact: At 19 degrees, the ramp angle of the 911 Dakars is on a par with the Cayenne and Macan
@@karlk.6819 I did in fact not know that, thank you !
@@steve-fb1bm no problem
Porsche has really gotta stop calling everything a 911.
i mean its quite literally just a lifted 911 + some added

Love the new, less annoying Cars & Bids ad!
THANK YOU DOUG! Currently in Dakar, Senegal enjoying my holidays 🎉🎉🎉
Finally a 911 that will see as much off road as a G Wagon....
this is the perfect car to park alongside my bronco raptor in the garage. But since it's too expensive, i'd rather buying an used 997 4s manual and start my own dakar project! Maybe i'm lucky enough to find one with carbon bucket seats and powerkit

Wow. Super cool car, lol. I’d love to see someone ripping this thing on a rally track
I think this is where Subaru missed out. I’ve always wanted an off-road STi.
don't they sell aftermarket kits for improving ground clearance on the STi? I'd off-road pretty much everything, even my wife 2018 audi A5 coupe manual (they can fit audi a4 allroad suspensions indeed).
Um, Subaru has been in the rally world for years. It's their cup of tea
22:58 Pheww Doug, thanks for the advice, i was just adding 3 in my shopping cart
With how crappy the roads are everywhere, this is great! I had a hard time driving Tesla Model 3 since its wheels are not great for bad roads so going to the Wrangler is a night and day difference, I can go over anything. Going over anything you want and not worry is the best peace of mind.
as a huge Golf Country fan this just made my day. i adore surprise off-roaders
This to me is the coolest thing that car industry can offer in terms of fun at the moment in time. Lifted 911 IS ABSOLUTELY insane but I want it so fucking bad. Take it to the mountains, take it on a highway, take it in a city atmosphere with shitty roads and just zoom through everything. Im in love
I hope the American car manufacturers follow suit. I’d love to see a rally C8, rally Mustang, rally Challenger HELLCAT. If the OEMs don’t do it I hope the popular tuners will.
Someone made renderings of a Mustang Raptor. It looks cool. I've seen a few lifted Mustangs and they look good, in a redneck way.
Doug remember you had it in off-road that may be the reason it didn't feel perfect on the road? Either way great vid as always!
This thing will be driving perfection in a Canadian background, especially through winter.
The only moment these Porsches will use their car lift button is to get over the speed bumps in the bank parking lot.

How much does/could a wrap to emulate de old Dakar version cost?

That little switch shifter would be great for a daily commuter car. Mine has all those other modes I have no use for anyway. All I really need is drive, park, and reverse.
This looks so cool.
