      Also - WRONG.
Merc S3000 was rated at 300hp and was Rev limited to 9000rpm or 9250.
With modifications, yes, 11,000rpm is possible as is 400hp.
The S3000 is the same block as the other 2.5L Merc racing engines - that's why I just clumped them all together and called them 2.5's.
You could get a 2.5L Offshore... A 2.5L drag, or a 2.5L "F1" which was for tunnel hulls.
The S3000 is not a 3L, it's a 2.5L with the same bore and stroke as the other 2.5L Merc racing engines.
There was never a Mercury Racing 2 stroke that was rated at 400hp or anything close to 11k rpm.
That's why I wrote that the Merc 2.5 and the OMC V8 were capable of those power levels WHEN HIGHLY MODIFIED.

the OMC V8 was not a racing motor - it was meant for bass boats mostly and larger offshore boats where twin 250's weren't enough... Because back then the highest hp outboard you could get besides the OMC or a designated RACING engine from Merc was 250hp.
      HELLO!
Nobody put Merc racing engines on their fishing boat.

It's interesting to see how the internal combustion engine has evolved and adapted to serve the very different needs of automobiles, airplanes, boats and motorcycles. Outboards are so extreme, since they need to produce maximum power for the very limited size and space available, much like motorcycle engines, or racing engines of all kinds. Growing up around boats, I never realized what absolute beasts hid beneath those covers!

I don't know about this but I have a suggestion: I haven't seen it much if at all, maybe you should do a video on transmissions? Like the best sounding or the most fuel efficient? I'm not sure but I feel like some people might like watching that, too.

Coolest engine iv heard was Honda 250hp. Very silent, ran smooth, to smooth. It knew it was a v8, so had no need to brag about it. 😄

7 marine have the best, it’s basically volvo penta, and they use GM small block v8s too (5.0, 5.3, 5.7, 6.2, 7.4) and theyre amazing

Volvo Penta stops the sales and production of Seven Marine engines. Inboard manufacturer must hate outboards because they always stop making them. In 1973, Volvo Penta acquired outboard production from Monark-Crescent and the U-22,
Toward the end of the 1970s, however, competition from Japanese manufacturers became so fierce that sales started to show a loss and outboard engine production was discontinued.

Rare boat engines would make more than one video. For example Riva Aquarama with two Lamborghini engines.
