Small aside regarding the weirdness of the leg armor - people are theorizing that, due to the stopping + turnaround animation of a Charger, that the back leg armor hitbox is skewed so medium pen can do proper damage to it. If you try shooting at the back leg of a charger that isn't in one of those 2 animations, it may sometimes still ricochet the beam off. Given the recent changes to the Railgun, this and Flamethrower are starting to look a lot more ideal to run, but I won't deny that being able to delete charger leg armor from the front (EAT, Recoiless, or Railgun) is still quite nice to have in most situations. ive been doing some testing on my own, punisher also takes chargers out in a similar fashion. you can also get quick kills using railgun to open armor up a bit, and punisher to shoot it. imo seems shooting the armor off completely is unnecessary if you have the right weapon, meaning if youre just breaker-pilled and only ever use breaker, youre not getting reliable charger kills outside of rockets.

Seems lika a massive buff. Previously, you used to only be able to damage the charger if there was some desync (whis is buggy). Now it seems to kill almot twice as fast, and pretty much guaranteed. Haven't personally checked yet
It’s good to see this might be able to replace the rail gun for killing chargers (hopefully the rail gun is still usable otherwise this isn’t really fixing the issue), I was a little worried the the orbital rail strike and laser strike where going to be required by everyone to deal with all the chargers and bile titans that swarm you on higher difficulties.
You barely have to deal with chargers and biles even on helldive if you focus on killing bug breach bugs, and when they come out of a breach all you have to do is break their line of sight for a couple minutes (Run to a different objective) and they despawn.
All these filthy noobs crying about nerfed railgun. Dont they even read the patch and take off safe mode ? Btw, this is a team based game, not a coop game.
Tried this on bots...turns out the 6 rocket devastators, 8 zerks, 5 reavers, 3 tanks, a cannon turret, and about 20 regular soldiers don't give a flying fuck your zappy beam does to their flame juggernaut
About damn time the cannon got into the fight. This makes it more of a pick vs the railgun (which is still very viable on Unsafe mode btw), which I appreciate immensely. Giving people ammo-less options that work helps ease some of the ammo strain other weapons invoke.
also gotta decide if you still want the railgun to go through two or more light bugs at once (i've had several missions where i kill the bug and the one behind it) or just melt em all in a line
@@knuckles543 Arc-Thrower is my go-to for crowds, light or medium. Lascannon now kinda shoulders its way in with the promise of better handling of the heavies.
You know what would be sick? The ability to “laze” the target to designate it for offensive stratagems like orbital strikes or Eagle attack runs instead of relying on throwing beacons. Beaming a Bile Titan’s armor off while highlighting it for heavy artillery? A two-in-one win for Democracy!
Bit of a spoiler for you. I was in a lobby the other day and had a modder in there. One of the strategems they called down was a "missile laser designator." A pod dropped with a rocket that had an unfinished model and a designator. Pointed designator at an annihilator tank and voila, rocket flew up and destroyed it. Was only a one time use thing so far.
I ran a full laser build today on bugs. Laser Rifle/Laser Cannon/Guard Dog Rover/Orbital Laser. Its a really good build, but Stalkers can be where it starts to lack as they charge you even with the laser cannon aimed at them and fling you away. Probably be better to drop the Laser rifle and run the Breaker for Stalkers.
Is the armor reduced after a charge? It seems like the back on the lags just have less armor and the laser got it's armor pen increased a bit so it can pen the back of the legs now.
During the animation of stopping and turning armored beetle it disables the armor on its hind legs, this is a bug colision, not a laser gun, there can be a regular gun and shoot and kill it
with the upgraded armor penetration laser's actually decent against the Bots like shooting a hulk in the face plus sniping some destroy objectives like AA, Mortars and the Landed dropships in aerial Sabatoge
for some reason ive seen a player with that thing take out a reinforcement ship of the mechs in like 2 seconds shooting it which is nuts and prbly a bug
Pretty sure a supply drop pack always gave you 1 Spear missile. The main drawback was that little ammunition drops around the map (0.5 the effectiveness of a supply drop pack) were unable to give you missiles. That in combination with the jank locking system, 4 rounds total, and frankly underwhelming damage is pretty painful. I'd definitely use it more if they were to make it one shot Bile Titans and tanks 100% of the time. For tanks, if you're curious, it does one shot them but ONLY if the rocket happens to hit the heat sink which is rather unfortunate.
I'm a huge fan of the railgun nerf. It's still exactly as good as it used to be, but only if you have balls of steel and solid aim. Which is great, because being able to comfortably kill 10 chargers with base ammo should take some skill, not keeping it on safe mode training wheels. Meanwhile this may be a little bit overtuned, literally infinite ammo AND heavy armor piercing? Take it to a snow planet and use nothing else I guess. Plus you keep your backpack slot. It is nice that the higher tier special weapons have some heavy tradeoffs. Autocannon is god-tier for sheer utility, can knock out objectives (spore tower/illegal transmission/bug nests) at basically infinite range, plus is quite ammo efficient for medium and heavy bugs, but no backpack. Railgun is king for sheer damage, plus keeping the backpack, but now needs balls of steel.
Its less a gameplay bug, and more the back leg armour seems to have less armour health to make up for the fact you just shoot them less overall. Prenerf railgun annihilated the back legs, but the front legs are just easier to hit and are pointed at you far more
That whole shoot a charger in it's leg after it's charge finishes is weird. You can actually take out a charger that way with ANY weapon. Even basic primary and secondary weapons. No idea if that's an intended feature or not. A smidge inconsistent but I've killed a bunch of them that way with just the defender smg with not even a full mag
Literally every weapon can do this, just some are better than others at it. There is a bug where chargers are briefly vulnerable after a charge. If you take a cannon and shoot a charger while it's stationary, the laser clearly bounces.
that shit melts bugs in general even the commanders melt in about 3 seconds. though i would not recommend on a stalker, i'd still use my shotty or rifle for that
This is less about the Laser Cannon's new abilities and more about the pre-existing bug that has been there since day 1, the only reason this matters for a Laser Cannon is its continuous damage, heat-based nature and precision accuracy, making it very easy to exploit the bug compared to having to really time your shots with slower-firing / reload-heavy weaponry in that small window of time. By comparison, the Flamethrower outright ignores armor entirely which allows you to immediately do full damage to the legs, and provided you can control your stream and not get clipped, you'll melt them within 3-4 seconds, even without the necessity of the post-charge glitch. Give it a shot. Now try going out of your way not to laser legs during the post-charge turn window and you'll see what the Laser Cannon's intended effect is, and it's not great at all sadly; it at best holds a niche for bot weakpoint exploitation, and MIGHT be able to pop a Bile Titan's mouth sacs, but that's a big MIGHT. There's the possibility that EVENTUALLY a Laser Cannon may strip the leg armor, but right now if you're actually sticking to your task, you're likely to down it due to the glitch anyway.
Some places more than others, Def recommend another weapon for Hot planets but on a cold one like Fenrir you can shoot for a very long time without overheating
Lascannon is an infinite ammo MG with damage potential to be as strong as Autocannon as long as heat management is taken to account. Its pretty strong, but not overpowered, as it should be.
Loadout for weps against light, medium and heavy armour respectively. I dont get why people complain when things get switched around. As if having one gun to do everything like the railgun wasnt boring. Laser cannon was meant for light and now "buffed" to heavy to make up for the boring universal railgun. Its definitely a win considering primary weapons only go up to medium.
It will not cut through the front or any geavy armor tho, For Charger it really hit or miss after the charging animation. Not sure if it something with hitbox or what.... Laser cannon... even with cannon in the name it still get out damage but GD Rover... It is wierd D:
This isn't a feature of the Laser Cannon but a bug(?) with the Charger's animations making their legs vulnerable to small arms fire. Dunno why it happens but the theory is that the armor plates desync with the hitboxes, maybe some sort of latency issue that was overlooked.
It's not a bug, but rather that the back of their leg armor is notoriously much weaker than the front, basically meaning you have more options than trying to shoot the small weakpoint in the back. Same thing can be done with tank treads, although they don't quite immediately drop dead like chargers do if they're rendered immobile.
I mean there's always the possibility that I could be wrong as well, but I just assume that it'd have probably been patched by now if it was a glitch. Still, you're all good fam, you've got a really fascinating theory at that.@@newrecru1t
@@norrecvizharan1177 There's some videos of people testing the theory I'm talking about on Charger front legs that aren't armor stripped, it isn't 100% consistent, but the discrepancy happens when a Charger finishes its charge and enters its recovery animation. While it's turning towards you? You can shoot the front legs with functionally any weapon and it'll penetrate... Somehow?... Again, not very consistent, but it has made some rounds in my research on Charger tactics. I wouldn't necessarily recommend relying on it though but I've yet to see the Devs patch it out for now.
@@norrecvizharan1177It's still possible to get any weapon to penetrate even from the front using the charge animation bug/feature so unfortunately/fortunately it was not patched out with the update yesterday.
The only part that sucks is that you can do much damage from the front, even if they do miss a charge. You can only do damage at all if you hit the back of their legs, but unfortunately that isn’t probable because of all the bugs around you l, mixed with the fact you got laser focus (lol) on a singular part. Still awesome though.
"when a charger miss a charge, his armor is reduced" That's the same with us : we are permanently missing our charges so our armors are permanently disabled.
Yes, that's true, however that's cuz you're benchmarking it on difficulty 5, which is low difficulty. Try it in anything difficulty 7 and above, it's usefulness dips drastically. You won't be able to tap a charger out like that anymore. The EAT instead, is a better alternative, one shot to the leg will strip the armor or kill it outright.
Been using it today, very solid pick for clearing chaff, hunters and stalkers when close to you. Can remove spewers but its likely gonna take a whole magazine. Much better than it used to be and fills a nice role in a loadout now
Does the Laser have any effect on Tanks and Turrets at other angles? Most weapons can take out tanks from the back, but getting around it is not always easy. The Laser does work great vs Hulks though. I found that running Stun Grenades makes the process even easier.

This is honestly the best reason to use the Laser that I've seen so far. Had no idea Charger armor was reduced after a missed charge!
i wanna see these properties be demonstrated on difficulty 7 and up
Enemy health and armor values don't change over difficulty. It's spawns and modifiers that change.
@@Living_Target I really like this very much instead of health and armor modifiers.
@@Living_Target which makes even more important that this is demonstrated on those difficulties to see if the TTK is viable with how out of whack the spawn rates at those difficulties are
He was a mighty charger once. Then ge took a laser to the knee
Rail gun still wipes titans out
Railgun is still good, you just have to take it off “Safe” mode for big bois now.
@@OneBiasedOpinionmy over here wondering why anyone ever had it on safe mode
All these filthy noobs crying about nerfed railgun. Dont they even read the patch and take off safe mode ? Btw, this is a team based game, not a coop game.
Thanks for the video. I have almost 90 hours in the game and I completely forgot this weapon existed.
Lascannon now kinda shoulders its way in with the promise of better handling of the heavies.
where's the Helldivers playlist at? This stuff is super useful great work
That charger 'weak moment' sounds impactful, might explain why I feel like sometimes the railgun didn't bounce off while testing it..
Was only a one time use thing so far.
that's pretty huge, i was kinda wierded out cause some times they died more rapidly earlyer today trying the laser, gwess that's why
That’s a HUGE buff. I’m running one of these now. Goodbye nade launcher
As it should. Been my favorite in HD1 as well, so it getting the love it needed is most welcome.
Yes. Just as I imagined it. Thank you Joel
Flashback to "The laser-cannon is useless; don't use it."
Look at me now, pa! I'm a grown boy!
I read the patch notes and didn't expect it to be this game-altering. Holy crap.
This champ has uploaded 5 videos in one day
Is the armor reduced after a charge? It seems like the back on the lags just have less armor and the laser got it's armor pen increased a bit so it can pen the back of the legs now.
During the animation of stopping and turning armored beetle it disables the armor on its hind legs, this is a bug colision, not a laser gun, there can be a regular gun and shoot and kill it
Finally a way to kill charges without clumsy expolsives or "Mr.Everything" railgun
i hope they nerf your weapon :)
@@SainKail So I will choose another one :)
I loved the flamer before and getting a tasty buff is perfection. Shame to see the breaker get a slap but it was necessary
Oh man, you are a better player than me then. Chargers were just laughing at me and my laser cannon.
with the upgraded armor penetration laser's actually decent against the Bots like shooting a hulk in the face plus sniping some destroy objectives like AA, Mortars and the Landed dropships in aerial Sabatoge
"Dutch, arm the rest of the charges"
Anyone know the song being played here? Would love to listen to the full version.
I can't wait to find myself getting strafed with friendly fire from this even more now. It's so bad when they have Rover too.
The charger change do feels intentional. Making dodging it be more rewarding.
for some reason ive seen a player with that thing take out a reinforcement ship of the mechs in like 2 seconds shooting it which is nuts and prbly a bug
I once died to a meteor storm in that same planet lol
Just once?
“The railgun was too OP so we decided to nerf it and make the laser cannon even stronger than the railgun ever was”
Spear can pick up supplies now instead of having to call in a new back pack.
That's actually a good tip.
Chargers are such a wall for most people.
Knowing the armor is weaker after a charge is fantastic
I liked when it played the sword base ost
What difficulty was this? I tried this weapon the day the buff went live and I couldn't pierce the armor on any of the Charger's legs.
That Charger thing seems like a bug(HA), but I sure as hell will be using it.
Holy shit, It's finally fun in concept AND gameplay
that shit melts bugs in general
even the commanders melt in about 3 seconds.
though i would not recommend on a stalker, i'd still use my shotty or rifle for that
@@knuckles543 yea i used it, anything bigger than a hive guard it's not useful against
Phew. Good. It was great in HD1, but not HD2, and I was hoping it would be good again!
I couldn’t get this to work well when i tried it earlier. Might try again later
Honestly, I've dropped the Railgun in favor of the Laser Cannon. It's really damn good now, I've had great results against bugs with it.
I believe its not that "missing" reduces armor, rather the back legs have less armor (medium) than the front (heavy).
it's not that they have less armor. Medium armor pen weapons bounce if it's not right after a charge
The overheat is still a pain to deal with. It is both more and less efficient when compared to the MG and Flamethrower as a result.
Use it on ice planets, it's super manageable
Some places more than others, Def recommend another weapon for Hot planets but on a cold one like Fenrir you can shoot for a very long time without overheating
Lascannon is an infinite ammo MG with damage potential to be as strong as Autocannon as long as heat management is taken to account. Its pretty strong, but not overpowered, as it should be.
Goes to show that it has it's own specific niche. Might not be as consistent as the flamethrower, but has far better range.
Good use of the halo music here!
Man that Halo music goes hard
Loadout for weps against light, medium and heavy armour respectively. I dont get why people complain when things get switched around. As if having one gun to do everything like the railgun wasnt boring. Laser cannon was meant for light and now "buffed" to heavy to make up for the boring universal railgun. Its definitely a win considering primary weapons only go up to medium.
Can you do comparison with light medium and heavy armor hitpoints?
What is this song from Halo reach called? I been looking for it forever its never on their official soundtracks 😆
It will not cut through the front or any geavy armor tho, For Charger it really hit or miss after the charging animation. Not sure if it something with hitbox or what.... Laser cannon... even with cannon in the name it still get out damage but GD Rover... It is wierd D:
Focus on front legs, even when you are facing its butt. When it turns you will keep firing at it easier than rear legs.
It was broken before with how severely it was underperforming, and now it is fulfilling its intended purpose.
ODST ost hits different🤤
It's weird that the entire Helldivers META seems to focus on beating this one bug.
Meanwhile, autocannon, mortar and rocket turrets go brrrrrr
Any weapon can strip charger's leg armour while it's mid turning animation. I just killed one with an smg.
................good to know
@@knuckles543 In case anybody interested. YT video is called "Helldivers 2: Animation Vulnerability vs Chargers".
Laser cannon my beloved
Do a video on the spear. Also got silent “fixed” more than buffed
@@norrecvizharan1177
Oh jeeze, ngl? I completely forgot about the rear legs being less armored, ignore my dumbass.
I mean there's always the possibility that I could be wrong as well, but I just assume that it'd have probably been patched by now if it was a glitch. Still, you're all good fam, you've got a really fascinating theory at that.@@newrecru1t
@@norrecvizharan1177
There's some videos of people testing the theory I'm talking about on Charger front legs that aren't armor stripped, it isn't 100% consistent, but the discrepancy happens when a Charger finishes its charge and enters its recovery animation.
WoW and that even on difficulty 5 crazy.
Flamethrower also ruins them. It did even before the patch gave it a 50% DPS buff
ttk on that charger feels good... wish they buff up other weapons.
"when a charger miss a charge, his armor is reduced"
That's the same with us : we are permanently missing our charges so our armors are permanently disabled.
I waited a month for this?!
I think that’s just you shooting the back of the legs where they are weaker at but could also be bug
Anyway you can do the Breaker Spray & Pray next?
Been using it today, very solid pick for clearing chaff, hunters and stalkers when close to you. Can remove spewers but its likely gonna take a whole magazine. Much better than it used to be and fills a nice role in a loadout now
If it busts open the containers does it also close bug holes??
Does the Laser have any effect on Tanks and Turrets at other angles? Most weapons can take out tanks from the back, but getting around it is not always easy. The Laser does work great vs Hulks though. I found that running Stun Grenades makes the process even easier.
