Married young, married too early into the relationship, but survived to tell the tale. Im surprised U.K courts gave him custody. In Australia, you could say with 90% certainty it would have gone to the woman, regardless of his incone or anything else.
Australia 99% gone to the Mother and you would also have to provide house and bills. The Thai women here (and I am sure it’s the same for Philippine ladies etc) they have Facebook groups to work their way up the ladder from sponsor to BF/fiancé no.2. The Immigration department has cottoned on so it has become harder to stay and get PR when the pattern is revealed. Be aware, be real otherwise that Fun Thai holiday can cost you more than a lot of money, it can cost you years too.
@@JopacobUSA also. Women have way more rights than men with regard to marriage and kids and court. I’ve paid child support for 13 years to a daughter I’ve never been able to meet cause the mom just disappeared and besides hiring a Private Investigator which I did twice the courts won’t help at all with letting me know where they are. Same age as me, just finishing a month here for my first trip outside the USA. I envy the fact you came here so young. I wished I had done this 20 years ago. 1982 for me. First international trip to Thailand January 10th 2024. Plane home leaves in about 6 hours. Man I wish so much that I had found this out at 18. But, at least I’m not 65 for my first trip and can still date attractive young girls here genuinely. Met one and had to leave after a week cause I was starting to get feelings. Learned on my first trip and not living here that emotions are dangerous. Man, legit 10/10 woman and all green flags. Not a bar girl or freelancer. But, I cut it after a week. Best week of the last 10 years with her in Phuket
A story that has been told a thousand times and yet years later. Met more than a few guys like James and hinted to them to have fun and move on. My best advice learn to speak the basics of the local language that should at least scare off some the women that are only in it for the $$$.
This should be played on the plane when flying over to Thailand. This video is a warning to everyone. Hopefully with technology they'll not be able to get away with destroying people's lives as much. The more stories like this are told the better. I wouldn't like to be chasing love in Thailand. He needs to grow up and stop this stupidness.
This happens in the States, Europe, Australia etc etc all the time.. Should the airlines play a video for these fools flying into Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Greece? He picked up a girl from a massage parlor. Did he think this was going to be Disney fairy tale ending...he better look in the mirror
The idea of hope for: 1. men to find a woman that's the ultimate source of pleasure and happiness 2. women to find a man that's the ultimate source of money and security can't be beaten with a video played on a plane to Thailand buddy
There are a lot of issues going on here that we seasoned Thai expats can point out. But remember when you first come to Thailand you don't know a lot, everything is new. The first relationship is usually hard and it takes a few to really find a good Thai girl. I look back at my first years in Thailand and think man I was dumb I know so much more now.
The fact that he got full custody of his child makes his story much more believable. I feel bad for him and his entire family. What a terrible ordeal. It's easy to watch this and judge, but it's human nature to let love take over and sweep rational thinking aside. These women are very skilled manipulators and can manage to play multiple guys at the same time. Personally, I think it's much too risky to bring them home. I wouldn't do it.
I love this video. I too am a mild ASD (aspergers) person who married a Thai because my social behavior is deficient and still tolerated by my sweet Thai family. Great interview.
James, I've read quite a few of the other comments and now feel terrible for my snarky remarks. Please, disregard and accept my apology. I've noticed how much care you've put into your responses and also how you've managed to stay respectful even when others haven't extended you the same courtesy. I find that very remarkable, and I hope to continue to improve on my ability to control my emotions/reactions. If you would entertain a little more unsolicited advice...careful putting so much weight into opinions of others. Especially, online. You can drive yourself mad by assuming someone you're responding to is deserving of a serious response. In my experience, I've found interactions online with strangers to be wasted energy. Take care of yourself out there and thanks for sharing your story!
This might sound cynical but it seems to me, that the cousins she was meeting in the first place, were really the other UK guy all along, and she hooked up with James to have an anchor baby to stay in the UK, as the other guy might have been too old or does not want children. But if she was a nurse, she shouldn't have had too much trouble getting a working visa for the UK.
I can relate, went through a nasty divorce with my first Thai wife of 20 years. She used the same excuses, but thank God the judge saw through it. I had a great attorney, once she caught on. My ex never signed the final divorce papers in California. I ended up divorcing her in Nevada, she lost by default.
Hello Pete, I think James burnt his fingers the first time with this Thai girl. The onlhy thing, if he goes to Thailand with his daughter. I hope he knows that the laws are different from Western laws, and if she knows that her daughter is with him in Thailand. She could go to the police station over there and she would be granted custody of her daughter..When I was looking for a property to buy. I was told if I marry a Thai girl. I could have no problem buying a property. But the house and the property would be in her name. Then I asked this question. What happens if the marriage does not work. Then I was told everything belongs to the Thai wife. So men please becareful.
He's been through the mixer and come out the other side whilst all along dealing with his own anxieties. Raising kids on your own is hard as hell. Best of luck to him in the future
My Italian husband sent me this. I guess no matter how good looking and rich he was when he was in his first marriage with a Thai. There would always be something wrong. I met him poor, it didn't matter to me that he couldn't give me the luxurious life he gave his Thai wife(he'd tell me about his past of how wealthy he was). But it didn't matter to me as long as he's a good provider and loving. There are materialistic women in every country in the world that would always only want your money. It's a little different than Filipinas because most of them are looking for men that will accept them for being sex workers and Filipino men don't want to settle with Filipinas that are passed around. Those Filipina always end up with foreigners not because they have high standards but because they were not accepted by decent Filipinos.
The vast majority of Thai ladies and Pinays are NOT sex workers. Quite a lot of gullible naive falangs never get past the bars and massage parlours. I am lucky that I have worked in both countries.
Pete, I'd like to see you follow this interview up in say 2 or 3 years time, as a part 2 with James to see how or where things are going. I wish James well but I have a doubt it could be similar to what I've just watched.

Yea I got into my Thai ex's email... she was cheating on me for 2.5 years with a brit in Singapore and a guy in Switzerland. Told her to get her shit out of my house. That was it. Dodged a bullet. She is married now, and I have a feeling the guy is bailing her out of multiple thefts from her employers like I did. 🤣

I am truly surprised??? He met a lovely girl at the soapy massage place …. A slippery but squeaky clean lass …. And ….. it didn’t work out??? I’m sure there are stories of bar girl/ massage girl meets man in shining armour, who rescues her (Pretty Woman style) from her desperate circumstances…. But most likely nearly as rare as 🦄 excrement! So many guys think they can eat, drink and copulate their way to a happy life…. It most often ends this way! It is so sad and dysfunctional at both ends…. The girls, who usually come from financially bleak situations (often from rural or neighbouring poorer countries) and the sad romantic fools who are emotionally stunted and rather than working on a relationship, just want to short circuit the process of relationship building.
Thank you Pete! James' risk taking decision is a bold one indeed, Perhaps the clash of cultural difference + ego, lust only last a month and both are not well-prepared for the long haul...

This is probably the best comment I've seen posted on any of these Thai marriage scam videos. The Majority of UK guys, western guys in general have no 'game’, they do no understand the female imperative in dating and marriage. Part of the problem in the west is that guys have become feminised and do not know how to be masculine, hold their own, hold their frame and do not understand their own value as a man or how to build their value as a man. If guys go abroad to find love (where East Asia, SE Asia, Eastern Europe or Latin America) they need to know ‘game’.
Does James even know if the baby is actually his? I hope he had a paternity DNA test! This is what happens when you rush into a relationship, especially with a woman from another country.
Heard this story 1000 of times in Vietnam....they never learn the cold hard truths of these types of women instead of spinning plates with other chick's they get oneititis on the first chick that grabs their roger they meet!

My experience is very similar to James. Went to Thailand in 1998 meet a girl and got married 4 months later. Brought her to the USA and she went through all the cultural challenges. She was very lonely did not speak much English. But I owned a company, so we worked together. We were always together. It worked out. Been married over twenty years. So, it can work out, but was a challenge. Like you said Pete there are two sides to every Story. Would like hear hers. James is a bit stupid to marry someone he has not spent time with, what is the rush. Great video Pete!

This started like 'another British guy looking for girls in Thailand' story, and of course he found them (or they found him).
But James was just looking for love like everyone does, especially as young as he was. He needs to stop trying to mask his personalty, with cultural or language difficulties etc, and try harder (and probably harder, slower, more difficult) to find some one who actually loves him the way he is.
But, at least I’m not 65 for my first trip and can still date attractive young girls here genuinely. Met one and had to leave after a week cause I was starting to get feelings.
I recognized in 5 minutes that he has ASD. No surprise there when he announced it.
Great job recognizing what you could have done better and apologizing. A rare trait indeed

Cultural differences have nothing to do with fundamental morals/values which make a good person.
Well said. Values, goals, and integrity are universal regardless of culture.
I was with my Thai missus for 4yrs before I though about getting married. This lad may get burned again.
"I collect pose-able action figures" You certainly do, James.

What an awesome interview. Takes a lot of courage to share your anxieties and social struggles. This guy is pretty inspiring. All the best James!

Going to a Thailand massage parlor is one place I never thought of to look for a wife. Silly me.
Near the start James said he met his wife in a Thailand massage parlor, that pretty much summed it up for me.
He said the first Thai girl he met was a soapy massage girl which ended after 3 months
And No happy ending.
A hard lesson learned. Good interview Pete. Tough subject.
Nothing learned really. He's doing the same again with Fah

Great interview. This guy saw all the flags and ignored them sadly.

You can also put the house in your thai child's name.
He's been through the mixer and come out the other side whilst all along dealing with his own anxieties. Raising kids on your own is hard as hell. Best of luck to him in the future

Sad story. This guy needs some serious help.
brain is not falling from the sky ....

I would disown this guy if he was my son , I'd be so ashamed of him.
