This is by far the best performance of the Ocean which I’ve ever seen. So emotional and passionate, with so many comprehensive layers into so much depth. His interpretation is so unique. Lukas is an absolute Genius!
Just here to agree with so many others that this is the nicest, smoothest, most expressive I've found after looking through FAR too many choppy and robotic versions. Thank you!!
this gave me new angle on this etude I did not know before- what a wonderful rendition, alive and breathing even under competion conditions! very brave thing to do
Tempo, dynamics, touch and style, all what he's done. What a uniqueness & creativity....Definitely he seemed to establish his own pianism at early twenties....
For those overly committed to Chopin's stipulation - this beautiful and aspiring interpretation is exactly how my senses wish it to be played, performed and felt.
Outstanding! He not only brings out the melodic interest, but shapes it musically. And the sweeps up and down are well under control. Congratulations, Lukas, on bringing fresh life to this often abused etude!
Can’t get enough of this interpretation. These dynamics are unique and bring out an exceptional beauty, in a piece that’s already so beautiful. Really amazing. Thank you!
Oh much I love Geniusas' narration of this piece. His interpretation is not just caught up in a perpetual, constant up and down like a spinning wheel - instead it takes me on that journey aboard a ship, caught in the midst of a storm. His whole performance is overarched by an ever-increasing intensity - which draws me into that piece more than any other interpretation I've heard, so far. Bravo!
Oh, definitely! This performance is amazing, and it takes a really good piano and acoustics to bring that out, too. He sure made the most of it. Wonderful!
II 've never listen a interpretatión like this. It was unique. I loved it. You captured the essence of this etude and took it to other level. There were not just arpeggios..You sang a melody with the bass notes, you broke my heart. Congrats! Lukas
Quite a brave performance (especially in a competition) considering that I’m sure he knew lots would love his interpretation, lots would hate it (even this comment section is split pretty evenly) Personally, though I find performances of no12 from people like Sokolov completely thrilling, I keep coming back to this over and over again. I really enjoy it and find it stays with me more than other more traditional renditions 🌊
@@georgiofekete812 yes I'm tired of these dumb names. The only one "acceptable" is the op 25 no 1 "Aeolian Harp" since it was given by Schumamn if I recall well, so I can respect that name a bit more.

loved that he held the una corda pedal in the beginning section, he gives this etude such a unique interpretation unlike most pianists who start off so aggressively (not by any means putting down other interpretations). I would say Geniusas' interpretation of this etude is on par with Sokolov's one (the best one in my opinion)!

it surely became one of my favorite interpretation of etude C minor as soon as I hear his performance. Really brilliant and incompatible of how he makes the song in his own way and his own perspective.
I have listened to so many plays of this etude. Yours are mixture of softness and hardness... so it sounds really dramatic like a short movie. You already are a Master. KEEP GOING and please visit south Korea :) I will be waiting for that
What a Unique Interpretation! I watch so many Performances by World class pianists and I have never heard something like this. Unbelievable, does anyone knows an interpretation that is similar this one?
Playing it slower and softer doesn't mean it's better or original. Chopin himself put the forte marking at the beginning. It is more difficult to bring out the beauty of this piece when it's full on forte and fast.
This proves that ocean doesn't have to be loud. The melody could be a bit louder, but this interpretation is by far one of the best I've heard!
