CHOPIN was without a doubt one of the top composers past and present regardless of genres. He was brilliant with flashy compositions yet he can also pull your heart string with emotional music too. He is what I will call THE KING OF MELANCHONY music
Chopin was a Pole and wrote this piece when he learned about the fall of the November Uprising against Russia in his homeland. You can hear anger and despair in this piece, as well as longing for the homeland.
Simply love how he starts and ends with no alarm. Just all of sudden you see the first frame of an impassioned revolutionary and then dramatically mute makes you wonder then what? Masterpiece.
I saw his face full of desperation at the and (and also while playing). And if I were him, I'd be crying and also desperate as well. This piece is just fantastic and magical. I can't imagine how Chopin felt when he was writing this masterpiece.
He was in anguish when he wrote this, as he was a patriotic polish and wrote this during the November uprising in 1831. This piece probably expressed how much pain he felt when the revolution failed.
This is the most vivid emotional story I’ve ever heard from a piano piece. So full of loss, fear, uncertainty, battles fought dawn to dusk, small whiffs of hope on the horizon amidst pure chaos and despair, and once it feels calm like the nightmare is over and you can breathe and move on, the final battle hits like a train and then ends with one final discernible explosion, an abrupt end to the war where once it’s over there is no ability to reflect. There is no closure.. there is just life that goes on with that explosion and horror being trapped in your fractured mind… cause nothing is the same with that traumatic war. Life as you knew it has died, so has your soul.
The sheer technical ability to play this is impressive - but that's why so many people who want to master it end up playing it like a robot or like a rabbit who just did three lines of... (no shade to her if you know who I'm talking about, she still is absolutely amazing). But to add emotion and expressivity on top of such an already technical heavy piece? Now that's truly mastery.
Does the name of this rabbit start with a Y and have 4 letters? Lol. And yes I agree, this piece is HARD and is the reason why I wrote a much shorter version to prove that I could play it -if it lasted for only a minute. (Check out my Happy Birthday/Revolutionary Etude Mash up.)

It is thought that Chopin had all this political unrest on his mind when he composed this piece. It is like the "soundtrack" for what was going on... More details: When a revolution broke out in Paris (July 1830) and the Russian emperor Nicholas I indicated his intention of using the Polish Army to suppress it, a Polish secret society of infantry cadets staged an uprising in Warsaw (Nov. 29, 1830, and known as the "November Uprising" of the Polish-Russian War of 1830-31). Although the cadets and their civilian supporters failed to assassinate the Emperor’s brother Grand Duke Constantine (who was commander in chief of the armed forces in Poland) or to capture the barracks of the Russian cavalry, they did manage to seize weapons from the arsenal, arm the city’s civilian population, and gain control of the northern section of Warsaw.
The liquidity of the piece is almost piercing into my consciousness like a rushing chill into my very endearing soul, uplifting my spirit into the pinnacle of the undeniable existence of excellence in music, subjecting myself to the incredible and reverential submission.
