OMG! WOW! I haven't completed watching your video but I've got a question. What do you think the signal would be if we bring it far like a mile or like bandos?
You mentioned you weren't confident the AIO BEC could output the 2+ amps to run the vtx and cam. Did you actually measure the draw @5v? I can't seem to find that spec anywhere. It would be nice to know if it would run off an AIO BEC capable of 2 or 3amps. That opens up the possibility of a 1-2s or 2-6s build without adding an external BEC.
It maxes out at 7 watts so you can do the math. 7 watts / 5 volts = 1.4 amps. If the AIO BEC is rated for 2 amps I wouldn't do it. If it was rated for 3 amps and it was an honest rating, then it would work. I've just seen too many 5v regulators that brown out under load and don't make their rated output.
AND I LEARNED SOMETHNG !!! LOL!!!! GOAT Wrangling with a mini quad.... who ever knew that could be a thing.... I though that was hilarious ... not so sure the goat(s) thought the same...Thanks for sharing.

Really struggling to decide between DJI and Walksnail. Just getting into FPV and want definitely a fun tinywhoop because that's what I will be able to fly most often with. I want to build a larger 3" - 5" later too, but don't have that many spaces here to fly that compared to the tinywhoop. My thoughts about DJI so far: + seems to be the mature digital system + prices for the DJI Googles seem to be way more attractive than WalkSnail setups - not such a big friend of closed systems - doesn't seem to have a lightweight unit for TinyWhoops and Toothpicks - not sure how they're future will be with the embargo and sanctions going on. I'm from Europe, but still it might have an impact on their focus and Investements into FPV if the US market should break away Walksnail: + lightweight units + i like that it's more open and we've more options - doesn't seem to be as mature - looks like good googles + antenna + receiver are quite a bit more expensive than just buying v2 goggles for the DJI system
A lot of good things are happening nowadays on fpv fields. Very interesting times. But .. the goats beat everything else :) Thanks Joshua, I've learned some good things since I had started watching you.
Great review! I'm really happy to see how fast Walksnail is improving this system. My only criticism (on the video) would be that the HDZero video quality looks much worse mostly due to the whoop camera. HDZero can look better than that with a better camera. This was mostly a range & break-up test though
HDZero can look better, but we are comparing the Whoop vTX bundle to the Aatar Mini bundle. You could buy the Whoop vTX separately, use a heavier camera, and then get a little better image quality at about the same weight, I suppose. That's just not an option I tested -- mostly because my HDZero whoop is ready to go and I don't want to gut it just to increase the weight and make it fly worse.
@@JoshuaBardwell That's a good point! I'm running the whoop vtx with the Runcam HDZero Micro camera (on a 3" toothpick) and it looks amazing. I completely skipped the Nano Lite camera lol
Those are types of voltage regulators. Step down, step up, boost/buck, etc. All types of voltage regulator. Are you saying you think a "regulator" can only step down?
@@JoshuaBardwell I was referring the the part of the video (around 9:00) where you say “I’ll bet the regulator can supply 5v even after the battery drops below..” so I was referring to the context (of a whoop flight controller) given in the video. Not only can the regulator (on the whoop) not provide 5v when given 4.2, but these sort of regulators usually have a drop-off voltage, making them require a volt or so above the rated output voltage. Sorry, I never noticed you replied to this old comment - RUclips auto-played this old video and I remembered commenting.
I started by building it in a 40mm, came in around 60g dry, it was fun but ultimately not ideal. Switched it to a 2S 2.5" toothpick and it's bananas. 3-4 minutes of hard flying on a 450mah. Crazy to have that much clarity, range, and agility in such a tiny package.

@@JoshuaBardwell I guess my eyes treat things different then lol cuz what I see vs everyone else. Is not good lmao but that’s my own personal opinion.
Actually if you are using Softserial … the index bumper is 30.
An Info that is really hard to find.
Heh, just ordered vrx with this vtx, what timing
Would be awesome is they made something like a 200mw vtx properly designed and scaled down for a tiny whoop.
Why didn't you convert the hdzero 16:9 file into its proper 4:3 image? It made it looked stretched and lower resolution than it actually looks
OMG!
@@JoshuaBardwell Spec on the AIO I have handy for the first walksnail build says 2.5 amp BEC. So I guess we'll just have to try it to find out.
AND I LEARNED SOMETHNG !!! LOL!!!! GOAT Wrangling with a mini quad.... who ever knew that could be a thing.... I though that was hilarious ... not so sure the goat(s) thought the same...Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
While I'm renting you need to talk to the dudes at rotor riot jb. Their customer service is shit, they're nice and everything when they talk to you but trying to call that place or trying to get any troubleshooting help is out of the question. I love their gear but I find it hard to want to buy from them anymore
It's a shame about hd zero. The people said they wanted analog style breakup and now that they did it not many people like it.
I own XH115LR and once it below 2.8v it will fall from sky :) the VTX will black first before drone haha
Not viable for 65mm🤔🤣
Really struggling to decide between DJI and Walksnail. Just getting into FPV and want definitely a fun tinywhoop because that's what I will be able to fly most often with. I want to build a larger 3" - 5" later too, but don't have that many spaces here to fly that compared to the tinywhoop.
My thoughts about DJI so far:
+ seems to be the mature digital system
+ prices for the DJI Googles seem to be way more attractive than WalkSnail setups
- not such a big friend of closed systems
- doesn't seem to have a lightweight unit for TinyWhoops and Toothpicks
- not sure how they're future will be with the embargo and sanctions going on. I'm from Europe, but still it might have an impact on their focus and Investements into FPV if the US market should break away
Walksnail:
+ lightweight units
+ i like that it's more open and we've more options
- doesn't seem to be as mature
- looks like good googles + antenna + receiver are quite a bit more expensive than just buying v2 goggles for the DJI system
A lot of good things are happening nowadays on fpv fields. Very interesting times. But .. the goats beat everything else :) Thanks Joshua, I've learned some good things since I had started watching you.
You mean in fpv fields of science and mechanics , or fpv exiled to cornfields ?
@@gregorydahl Definitely science and mechanics, albeit efficient flying over cornfields maybe its obvious consequence.
5v regulator best for liions
@@JoshuaBardwell also this is a 4:3 sensor and you're showing footage in 16x9 which doesn't look as sharp
Where on earth did you get the idea that a regulator can provide higher voltage than it receives? That would be a step-up or boost converter.
Max range?
Hi. Can you help me please.
I have skyzone 02c.
does it make sense to buy this module? or because of the small resolution in glasses, the picture will not change much.
Very impressive stuff. Joshua. That goat was like, “there’s a big A$$ ufo bee chasing me”! 😆👍
🤣😂🤣 Go Goats Go! Had a great laugh watching Your goat. Merry Christmas Josh and Family. Blessing 👋🇨🇦
Lol it's funny, I always thought I'm the only weirdo that uses white as TX and grey as RX. Totally logically because whiTe and gRey 😂
1080p can be output from hdmi port of the goggles?
Yes it can. If you have the vTX set to 1080p.
@@JoshuaBardwell cool thanks, these products (air unit with goggles with hdmi out) could be purchased now from caddx store? Or still in ore order?
Thanks .. --- was saving for hd0 . I woulda got stuck with the same thing as analog but for more money .
You radio is going nuts. Is that the telemetry lost notification? Please follow up on the baud rate thing for on your previous video. What is the appropriate baud rate? I get errors in almost every setting. Some more than others.
yeahp, looks much more go-pro than hdzero, however that hdzero cam is pretty bad compared to others.
No need for longer standoffs, just print the camera mount so it give you 3mm extra, do the same for the back obviously
Could you make a cam comparison video with that cam and the runcam Split 4 or Split Nano (digital vs. analog), please?
Hi bardwell ! Sorry to ask that here but I saw that walksnail is gonna make an avatar vRx. I’d like to know which analog goggles you’d recommend for that. I saw your video about hdzero and as it’s gonna work almost the same with hdmi input, are the attitude v6 a good deal ? Hdo’s, hdo 2’s etc. Thanks
Im not bardwell but skyzone 04x is the best oled goggles i recommend. WS vrx is best on oled goggles. You can wait for the hdzero goggles to be released though. So you can have analog-hdzero-caddx in one goggles
@@smoke2584 thanks for that ! I don’t mind about hdzero, I don’t really like the way it handles glitch etc. I’ll check sky04x then. 🤓✌🏼
@@baptiste_nonat 04x owner here, can confirm they’re excellent.
Additional note: WS vrx has 1080p. Current skyzone 04x just have 720p. You may not see the full potential of the vrx
@@smoke2584 I’m just planning on using 720, that’s gonna be way enough. And the skyo4x has same resolution as hdo2’s, it’s more than 900p I believe so close to 1080.
I pull out my 75mm at 3.2v. Hmmm . Gonna get some of that 1s Walksnail gear now. Nice review BTW.
I’m looking to move from analog, which system would you recommend for toothpicks to 5” quads?
It's was .1 volts off in the goggles so according to your power supply, the vtx shutdown at 3.0 volts.
This would be so cool if it worked with my sky03o or dji goggles. I just can't justify buying more goggles just to do digital 1s whoops.
There is a module coming that you can use with your goggles. Only 200$ including this camera vtx combo
my prayers are answered
hmm.. doesn't TRS make an 800mw analog Vtx that (seems like ) it might be the same weight as the Avatar?
#fpvherding
So soon I'm going to join your patrion and give you money to help me fix this drone I just cannot figure out. But first I need to buy parts to have on hand!
yeah I just ordered the vrx yesterday too, I still didn't like them but if the product speaks I'm good
That shirt….😂
Your not the only weirdo Bardwell, I too use whiTe for tx, also there is no uart 0, but ports can be 0
And … I ordered one. I fly a whoop everyday indoors during the winter. Now I’ll be doing it with digital.
