"If you know, it's great." What exactly stops one from learning? These aren't hidden knowledge pools only shared with the worthy. These are basic usage tips found everywhere.
Definitely Samsung Galaxy are super computers on hand n S21 is the super computer on hand for common man! I have been with the NOTE 8 for 3 plus years n still it is super efficient n love it! I am tempted to get the S21 Ultra, but, not as an upgrade; the NOTE 8 will be with me ; always!!! 🤝🙏👍
I was confused by the comments until I got to the relevant point in the video. Bad form to make it seem like an uninstallable weather app with an ad on it equates to ads in the UI. IMO, that should probably be cleaned up, or at the very least explained, because as you can tell from the comments it sends the wrong message to uninformed people mistaking this for a Xiaomi phone.
I really like The Verge's reviews. I wish, however, and this applies to all tech reviewers, that they would go deeper into camera image processing. Stuff like over-sharpening, exposure, perceived detail without zooming in, skin tones, artifacting etc. I don't think this is too much for anyone. The channels may be trying to keep it simple for the average people who are not nerds like us looking and even demanding for it in the comments. I understand that the average guy who buys a phone every 3 years does not even look at RUclips reviews, but this knowledge needs to be expanded. Most may not need to know or may even get bored or potentially never watch again, but there are still many who would appreciate this. Our mothers, fathers, cousins who are not into tech do not know or understand image processing much. If they start knowing more, these brands will start focusing on these things and then the products will become better for all of us. Nerds included.
... Considering how cameras are the de facto most important and influential aspect of buying a new phone these days, reviews just glossing over them is just unjustified.
I'm coming from an S10+, to upgrade to the S21, I pay more to get a thicker, bigger, more expensive phone without a headphone jack and micro-sd card slot. I have no interest in the 10x+ zoom cameras, but the battery life and screen is almost enough to consider an upgrade. I'm also tempted to wait a year to see if they come up with a better design, but I'm also interested to see if the s21+ is enough of an upgrade to be worth it.
from an s10+? id say go for the jump, they fixed camera issues, battery issues and chipset issues as well, (its on par kinda with the new sd888) also pre order gets you that new buds which lookin at reviews is also better in mic and sound quality than the airpods pro, ive pre ordered myself
I don't have brand loyalty but I prefer Samsung to the different phones that I used. I have been upgrading every 2 years since the S4 cuz it used to take Samsung 2 years to come out with the next big update. Every year used to be a small update to the previous year. This year is the first time I am not really enthusiastic about the phone. I currently own the S10+. Besides the 120hz refresh rate that I've used on other phones and see that I can live without, I don't see a real reason to upgrade. I personally don't like the design. I prefered the Note 10's design and prism white color. I don't see the fold getting cheaper for at least 1 or 2 years, and the Note might not happen this year. Any thoughts?
You won't be sorry. I switched from an iPhone 6s plus to a Galaxy S10 plus and I am so glad I did! I just ordered my S21 Ultra 5g last night and I can't wait to get it! ✌🏻😊
Dieter, thx for the review. Only wish you had mentioned something, anything, about the sound quality. Well balanced or not between the earpiece and bottom-firing speaker? Deep, rich, or simply loud and tinny? Something, anything...
Guys, do you think it's better to take advantage of the current deal with the galaxy buds or wait some more months with the depreciation of the phone (if it will depreciate)? Thankss
actually we should all wait for the first big update for video and cpu optimizations and ofcourse everyone should wait for one plus 9 pro to get released and mi 11 pro etc. one thing for sure. the 1080p monitor on s21, s21+ killed them for the non average.

@@weardo100 I doubt it. In fact, the Pixel line went for specs to replace the Nexus line, so thinking of that, Google seems to have gone back to that strategy. Now, you have to enter task switcher, press the app icon, then choose "Open in split screen view"... so many steps... I don't understand why Samsung sometimes eems to have tendency to make some features worked really well worse .
All the mentions about "if you know" you can make it better...how about a "how to" article to make it better? Like setting up Google Assistant instead of Bixby, using Android Message, etc, etc, etc.
Samsung had the android phone crown since the Galaxy S3. The comeup started with the S2/Note around late 2010/11. I think motorola and HTC had the crown with the Droid phones and the Evo. Samsung was able to get a similar phone on every carrier starting with the original Galaxy S. Marketing played a big factor in their dominance also.
Does every Samsung phone review need to include so many comparisons to the iPhone? I get it, they’re competitors and any review should make one or two references to Apple phones, but the amount of screen time the iPhone gets here is ridiculous. You’re supposed to be talking about the s21, not the iPhone 12. These constant comparisons are also largely pointless: at this point, if you’re with Android you’re with Android, and vice versa with iPhones. The sales numbers don’t lie: not that many people switch phone ecosystems. It’s telling that at the end of your review, you yourself state that nobody will be switching from iPhone to galaxy; why spend so much time talking about iPhones, then? With a phone this feature-packed, think of all the additional things you could’ve talked about were you not discussing the 12 pro max in a galaxy review. Just my two cents, anyway.
Dieter has to be one of the best reviewer in the market, cheers! Finally Samsung flagship is back and 2021 is gonna be a challenging years for remaining smartphone makers but competition always benefits end consumers like us and more than happy to see that happening!

@@anthonyt425 What else should they talk about? Every phone is practically the same these days. For me thought, they should talk more about haptics. Although at this point, if it's not mentioned in a flagship phone review I just assume it is great.
@@aldelmontealdm just making an observation, nothing deep. Personally, I believe most Flagship phones at least can be summed up in less than 10 minutes.
A video from the Verge that isn't laughably biased towards Apple, what a pleasant surprise!
For just over 300 bucks in January of 24, this phone is the phone to buy for the 💰
I love mine! ❤❤❤
Even though most will use a form of protection on there phones be it skins, or cases. I wish Samsung would really give us more choices for colors on the ultra phones. I am tired of Black in whatever form, limiting your choice from a few to only one if you want a the most the phone can offer is just sad in this day and age. I do love watching your reviews!
It's amazing how it all of these compression videos between Apple 12pro and Samsung, S21 Ultra the results are different, here it's the iphone that keeps the shadows, there it was the s21 ultra... seriously amazing.
Everytime I come across verge videos I'm consistently reminded how this guy is the only person worth listening to at the verge
Check out Becca, she's also good
I'm finally happy with the selfie cam quality in samsungs
holy hell the lens flares on that iphone, what is going on?!
It’s a feature 😅
Don't you know that people purposefully install filters on their phone to get that vintage look?! 🤣
lol nah it's not a feature..couple of reviewers complained about it.
The photo has much more details though, see the cloud and the buildings far right on the pictures.
@@anismistry1 I agree the detail is on point for iphone except for macros, but it doesn't make up for a photo shot ruining orb (for me at least).
This is the type of review that set Dieter apart. I will miss this type of content by him.
"If you know, it's great."
What exactly stops one from learning? These aren't hidden knowledge pools only shared with the worthy.
These are basic usage tips found everywhere.
A lot of people are lazy
Definitely Samsung Galaxy are super computers on hand n S21 is the super computer on hand for common man!
I have been with the NOTE 8 for 3 plus years n still it is super efficient n love it!
I am tempted to get the S21 Ultra, but, not as an upgrade; the NOTE 8 will be with me ; always!!! 🤝🙏👍
Dieter is the reason I even follow the verge.
I'm getting 5 hours screen on time on my s21 ultra with 19 hours battery life. Exynos version. I think it's less than expected.
I just saw a samsung ultra ad before the video started and i was like didn’t i just skip this
Me too.
@@CarlosMartinez-ig6nl i see s21 ultra ads everywhere.
I'm also tempted to wait a year to see if they come up with a better design, but I'm also interested to see if the s21+ is enough of an upgrade to be worth it.
from an s10+? id say go for the jump, they fixed camera issues, battery issues and chipset issues as well, (its on par kinda with the new sd888) also pre order gets you that new buds which lookin at reviews is also better in mic and sound quality than the airpods pro, ive pre ordered myself
an ad in bloatware kills the whole quality of a phone
Any thoughts?
when it's reviewed by Dieter, it's absolutely good.
RCS - Samsung messages can now do RCS with Google Messages. They only thing it can't do at the moment is secure messages.
I’m thinking about switching from my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It’s something new 😬
Good idea
You won't be sorry. I switched from an iPhone 6s plus to a Galaxy S10 plus and I am so glad I did! I just ordered my S21 Ultra 5g last night and I can't wait to get it! ✌🏻😊
Dieter, thx for the review. Only wish you had mentioned something, anything, about the sound quality. Well balanced or not between the earpiece and bottom-firing speaker? Deep, rich, or simply loud and tinny? Something, anything...
So the "Best Android Phone" gets an 8.5 from Verge while the iPhone Max gets a 9? cool cool cool
Verge still gonna Verge
Ofc
Why would the best Android phone necessarily get the same score as the best iphone?
Guys, do you think it's better to take advantage of the current deal with the galaxy buds or wait some more months with the depreciation of the phone (if it will depreciate)? Thankss
Verge uploaded 3mins ago, 273 views.
MKBHD uploaded 2mins ago, 2.7K views.
actually we should all wait for the first big update for video and cpu optimizations and ofcourse everyone should wait for one plus 9 pro to get released and mi 11 pro etc. one thing for sure. the 1080p monitor on s21, s21+ killed them for the non average.
What, Dieter praising Samsung? Is he high? Has he been kidnapped? Apple will not be pleased, bro. But this is the right thing to do. Hopefully not the last from you.
the difficulty in admitting the phone is the best (either apple or android) makes this video awkward ... i can almost hear the frustration in his breath hahahaha
@@omarseidu6182 At 16:04 he suddenly calls them 'equivalent' after going through all the extra camera options. Confusing but kind of typical for these reviews.
@@luc7976 been on iOS and macs ever since I started using any device, truth is android is matured now and most functionalities/features have plasteaued but Samsung is expecially pushing the barriers of form factor and actual innovation. I don't know why the reviewers keep hanging on apples nuts n not calling them out for putting out the same device with minimal improvement for years.
What wallpaper you use?
What do you mean you like the "new" square design from iphone? That is the same design as the 5/5s
They are Apple fanboys, no matter what phone comes they will make iPhone superior
Even though it comes with 5 years old design, screen, 60 hertz, slow charging, huge notch, and alll
@@santoshpal8835 How? He literally praised every aspect of the Galaxy S21 Ultra
I really appreciate you touching on some of the features. Many reviewers mainly skip that when talking about samsung phones because of laziness. There's SO MUCH that Galaxy phones can do. I agree that it can overwhelm, though.
I said many times and am saying it now: it is sad that Dieter is biased against Samsung. I am writing this from a 12 Pro Max.
Worth mentioning, Samsung for portrait mode uses the main wide lens and iPhone uses the telephoto. Makes them look very different
This phone is honestly so impressive that I might finally switch from my pixel 2 xl to a phone with a holepunch camera. If only there wasn't this whole "pixel 6 might have a hidden selfie cam" I would have probably ordered it by now I would probably order it.
Google quit the high spec game and went for a "functional" approach, so no point waiting for them if you do like high end phones.
@@xmaverickhunterkx I think it's too early to say that google quit the high spec game based on one year's release of phones. They could just as well have decided to spend another year on R&D for a new "high end" phone and put out the pixel 5 in the meantime. But then again I am a dreamer. We'll see what happens.
@@weardo100 I doubt it. In fact, the Pixel line went for specs to replace the Nexus line, so thinking of that, Google seems to have gone back to that strategy.
More importantly, we have pretty good mid range SoCs, unlike years prior and on top of everything... Google is a software/services company, not a hardware company.
I would love universal RCS on Samsung Messages, but outside of that, it's still much better than Android Messages. The ability to pin contacts to the top, categorize contacts and threads across the top, send text messages directly to Reminders, etc. It's just a better communication & productivity tool than Android Messages.
Last time i was this early Dieter still reviewing Samsung S3
Mine comes on Tuesday! Cannot wait!!
I feel like the S21 and S21 plus are downgrades this year. Does the new price justify this?
They definitely are
You can't have it both ways. Last year we complained the price was too damn high, this year every phone is 200 bucks cheaper and we're complaining the non ultra models lost easy to lose stuff.
Just got mine today. Love it. Fixes all the problems with my s20 ultra.
How does it feel in the pocket/hand? Huge and heavy or a good balance. All subjective I know but still 😊
It's a heavy phone but you get used to it. It's narrower than the IPhone 12 pro so feels way better in the hand.
@@stephenrye6474 thanks for the reply mate, yeah it does seem like it'll be comfortable, just don't want it to weigh my pockets down. I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow when mine arrives 🙂
why you talking about iPhones so much?
Verge is Pro Apple. They are just now coming around to Android.
Cause the iPhone is it's closest competitor.
Before upgrading to One UI 3.0, you can use split-screen mode by long-pressing the multi-task button. It was easy and intuitive. Now, you have to enter task switcher, press the app icon, then choose "Open in split screen view"... so many steps...
I don't understand why Samsung sometimes eems to have tendency to make some features worked really well worse .
I wonder how many times he's going to say Apple and iPhone in this Samsung review...
Well that’s the phone to beat lol
those phones are the eternal rival who lead the market in this past 10years
just got mine yesterday its taking a bit to adjust but im enjoying every bit of it
Watch in 1,25x speed. Thank me later.
was SO close pulling the trigger on this one... but the BUILT-IN ADS on a $1K device totally killed it for me. The bloatware does it again!
I hope Samsung will bring back the SD card in the galaxy S22, next year, especially if your gonna be shooting 8k and 4k...
All the mentions about "if you know" you can make it better...how about a "how to" article to make it better? Like setting up Google Assistant instead of Bixby, using Android Message, etc, etc, etc.
I love when reviewers have an Apple Watch when reviewing android phones 😍
I really hate that
Samsung had the android phone crown since the Galaxy S3. The comeup started with the S2/Note around late 2010/11. I think motorola and HTC had the crown with the Droid phones and the Evo. Samsung was able to get a similar phone on every carrier starting with the original Galaxy S. Marketing played a big factor in their dominance also.
*No SD card, No buy*
Would you recommend upgrading from a Pixel 3XL to the Galaxy S21 plus?
Yay embargo's up!
With no micro SD card on the new Galaxy S21, how do you recommend managing your Samsung galaxy phone memory
I really like how Ultra can clear the dark spots in the photos as compared to iPhone
I don't agree on the fact that Dieter you are old.. you're a young and energetic happy go man..😁 Great review❤️
The RCS carries over if you have it active on your previous phone
Dieter has to be one of the best reviewer in the market, cheers! Finally Samsung flagship is back and 2021 is gonna be a challenging years for remaining smartphone makers but competition always benefits end consumers like us and more than happy to see that happening!
8 months later it is still the best android phone in the market and the best screen on any phone.
Samsung: Look at these idiots at apple, removing the headphone jack ... actually write that down
Samsung: Look at these idiots at apple, removing the charge brick ... actually write that down
Then proceeds to make the S21 plastic and removes micro-sd and MST all in the same year yikes bro
I really wanted the Ultra, but I gotta say, I'm super happy the standard S21.
For the S21 review, do you miss the extra camera features of the ultra?
So in the middle of your review I paused and went to a samsung store. And man, this phone is gorgeous, not just in looks but also in feel. And also what felt very weird is that its a light phone and felt very comfortable while holding.
