It's a bigger tragedy than people realize. People who defend Samsung like to say"most people don't even use the expandable storage." Fine but most people don't buy flagship phones. Unfortunately the only remaining option that has that and stylus support is LG. They're hit and miss software wise but a option nonetheless should Samsung prove to be unbearable in the future.
They are ancient tech and for a company supposed to be at the cutting edge, it is a bit embarrassing. You have to adapt or die. Some users will get upset but it has a net benefit as people will buy higher storage and prices will fall. If we all buy cheap and slow SD storage then prices take much longer to fall. It is economies of scale and the more people that can adopt the latest tech then the quicker things will change for the better.

In the end, it all boils down to profits. I just got a free iPhone se, I had no charger brick for their lightning port to USB c cable nor do I have Bluetooth headphones at the moment, so guess what, I had to go spend money getting a new brick and an adapter (AN ADAPTER) just to use my wired headphones. Its all about how much more can they charge, when I sold phones, I always made sure to have the cx pick a pair of beats, case, screen protector, and Bluetooth speaker with that new iPhone because cx, you don't have a headphone jack anymore. Oh, and hey, get a 128 gd iPhone because you take lots of pics, videos, and app downloads, its only 10 bucks more on your EIP lol.
Always delightfully impressed Michael with the professionalism of your reviews. I can see each detail is covered and I appreciate it, from the alliteration, clever metaphors and references to past products, movies/shows and even your own reviews, to how the script lines up cleanly with the cinematography. Really enjoyed this one :)
No SD is just a slap in the face. Just so annoyed how they removed it!!! not to mention the reason: buy the more expensive version.. and I always had that SD car full of music and backups that are then easily placed on the new phone. Damn handy, and it doesn't need to be quick memory either. Not to mention that my 128GB is often full. So you feel like you MUST buy the 256 or 512GB version. Because you don't want to buy something that keeps getting full, even more so now with files taking in more space.
The point is that UFS is miles faster than microSD. Samsung's ufs 4.0 that releases in 2022 will make this storage even faster and cheaper. Get ready to see phones with 2tb storage soon enough.
@@zen608 NOT about speed. It is not the argument at all..... Those who use the MicroSD do not use it for the function of speed.... It is to use it on different mediums quick and easy. You can swap it between a camera, a phone and a computer/laptop far faster then any UFS can do on your phone by simply switching. Or when you swap a phone having your music or other important files backup really fast.
The SD Card slot is very important to me but the base internal storage being much higher than it used to be may lead to fewer complaints. But, considering the higher file size of apps, images and videos taken with the phone, it may as well get the same response as the S6/Note5.
This video was like a film; I was surprised when it finished and I remembered it was supposed to be a phone review. Keep it up Michael; your style continues to be incredible.

Apple didn't adjusted the price while removing the Charger, Samsung adjusted the price and the s21 is cheaper than the Phones before. So I don't see double standards here from Samsung. But besides of that I really loved that video!

It's a nice option but in most countries is outdated. Really useful feature. But personally I think including a fucking charger or a headphone jack is more important. Regardless I dont understand why we are suddenly losing vital features in a world that is basically run by phones.
One other thing worth considering from the Samsung advertising is that, at least here in the UK, they pushed and pushed and _pushed_ that with micro SD cards you can make your phone have up to 2 TB of storage with that _alone_ and yet now they're quietly brushing the fact they removed it under the rug, leaving reviewers to be the only ones who are mentioning it
I've never binged a channel over and over again until I subscribed to MrMobile. He is definitely in my top 5 favorite 'Tubers of all time. Even videos from 2017 are worth the watch despite the outdatedness since the video itself is just amazing! MrMobile makes the most high-quality content I've ever seen. Props to you!
The cloud is not a replacement for local storage, in any sense. We don't all have limitless data plans, and Google Photos won't be free, as of this coming Summer. 4K 60FPS video takes a lot of space. I also store my downloaded shows, movies and music on the sd card. The phone should start at 256gb, if they're stripping out the memory card slot. I'm honestly getting super sick of phone manufacturers thinking they can include less every year. Yes, this is cheaper than last year's, but last year's shouldn't have been that expensive in the first place. This is still hundreds of dollars more than Samsung's previous top end S series (my S9+ was hundreds of dollars cheaper, for instance).
I was so excited to grab this phone on launch day to replace my iPhone 12 Pro (I switched to apple for the 11 Pro for my RUclips channel) and so far everyone’s complaining about the videos so my dreams are crushed :(
I've had the same microSD card in my phone since I had my Blackberry Curve back in 2010. The loss of the slot isn't big to me because I don't use it much anymore, but I guess we should have seen the death of the card slot coming when the headphone jack left.
No word on the fact that using the camera for more than 15 min will make it heat up till it burns your hands. Especially on videoconferencing apps (teams, messenger, whatsup). Super review!
Samsung removing the SD Card slot in 2021... Apple Macbook Pro bringing back the SD Card slot in 2021... I was waiting for the Galaxy S21 Ultra to come out with these cameras!!! Awesome for photography. But the removal of the SD Card, leaves me questioning their loyalty to their customers. Overall it makes me unhappy and I will not be buying this. Look at what Apple did to the Macbook Pro, when they removed the SD Card slot. It infuriated photographers around the world. And guess what: They are bringing it back for 2021..!!!
This might ring true with some of the rest of you too My phone's knackered and I've been due a phone upgrade for since last year but hardly see the point during covid Better camera? I've not done anything to take photos of for months Better battery life? I'm barely leaving the house so even if my phone had no battery and had to be used like a landline I'd cope

Great video keep up with the good work. I am always here waiting for your new one. Be safe out there.
regarding color options: that has always confused me, why would a more EXPENSIVE option offer LESS variety? like, shouldn't it be the other way around? lmfao....the call background thing came with the latest software update, i got it on my note 10+ a couple of days ago :) and agreed, with everything being streamed these days, i don't think it's a big deal for them to take out the microsd card slot...when they did that back when they released the note 5, i was NOT happy, lololol, not that i was upgrading from my note 4 at the time, but just the PRINCIPLE of it, THAT'S what mattered to me at the time X"D because all my music was on my phone and microsd card, but that doesn't apply anymore (now that everything is in the cloud, on spotify, etc)
And yet millions of people STILL hold onto that PRINCIPLE like you mentioned and refuse to go with the flow and rely on cloud/music streaming services, etc.
Samsung got rid of the headphone jack, charging brick, mst reader for samsung pay & micro sd card support 👎. There just not the company i remember ill be sticking to LG and wont be switching between the two like I normally do anymore.😔
Its strange to see these features go. In a world that is essentially run by smartphones you would think they would become more useful with time, not less.

The headphone Jack and Microsd Card were kind of a leverage over Apple
They are ancient tech and for a company supposed to be at the cutting edge, it is a bit embarrassing. You have to adapt or die. Some users will get upset but it has a net benefit as people will buy higher storage and prices will fall. If we all buy cheap and slow SD storage then prices take much longer to fall. It is economies of scale and the more people that can adopt the latest tech then the quicker things will change for the better.
Exactly.
@@andyH_England why drop something usefull? The things that they offer in exchange are not cutting edge....They are just gaining more profit. If you think that foldable screens,or bluetooth headphones are cutting edge then you are dead wrong.
@@temistogen I am talking from an average consumer perspective and I know no one who uses an SD card, and I also have an S20U. I understand that for some people this will be a big change and some will say as they did with the jack that they will never buy Samsung again, yet did and will! You just cannot please all the people all of the time and for those that just cannot accept this, move on, buy another brand, and let Samsung get on with their future roadmap. Cheers!

Or when you swap a phone having your music or other important files backup really fast.
Let's see if no expandable storage is a mistake like Samsung did with the s6 and note 5 line or not

S20? You mean s21 the s20 came out a year ago.
This is still hundreds of dollars more than Samsung's previous top end S series (my S9+ was hundreds of dollars cheaper, for instance).
for a almost AU$2 thousand dollar phone, removing options such as the micro sd slot, makes it hard to justify buying one.

Remember when phones were used for phone calls? Now just the mere aspect of it comes as an after thought even in reviews.
