    Thank you so much for the video. Really well done. Could please update if you used a new power guage on the side. Or if you continued to use the original?. Is this a mandatory change or can i still continue to use the original with new lithium batteries. Also was wondering gor the 480e, can i go ahead with the 50Ah instead of 75Ah. I understand 5he power is going to rhe the same. Just that i will get lesser duration on the mowing time. I think 1 hour is more than enough for mowing my lawn. Will 50Ah suffice. Please let me know

      Not the video poster, but I also did a 480e lithium swap using the stuff here: ruclips.net/video/8qRRcIc0mgQ/видео.html
      I left the original meter in the mower, but it does not work with the new batteries. I had to wire the new meter and I just left it under the seat of the mower because it really isn't that important for me to see it now.
      I have a few trees and small hills, and my yard is about 1/2 acre. With the new 100Ah batteries I put in, I can mow the entire yard and put it away at 70% charge left. So, if I had 75Ah, or even 50, I would still be able to get the yard done for sure. I would probably go with 75Ah but I doubt I would drop to 50...I just want to have some room to degrade or if it is wet or something, I do not want to upgrade and then not have enough juice so I overkilled it at 100Ah :)

      I previously added the aftermarket gauge. As seen in other videos.
      My personal opinion is only the 300e should get the 50ah batteries. Everything else should have the 100ah. This is due to load demand. Not mow time.

      so lead acid ah rating are really only half because they can only be discharged to 50% without damage. lithium is 100% so a 50ah lithium battery has the same storage capacity as a 100ah lead acid. the issue you might have with 4 12v 50ah batteries is the continuous amp output of each battery via the bms.
      A single 48v battery is the best way to go for multiple reasons. ive seen the rm480 draw up to 40amps at once in testing for short periods... many 50ah 12v batteries are built for solar and only allow like 25amps continuous draw. if you bought a 50ah 48v lithium pack with a rating of 50amps continuous discharge you would be fine.

      @fathergratwick awesome. Never thought of this. Really informative. Thank you. Think it's best to get 1 48v battery. I will go ahead

    Did this swap effect the mower deck power? ive read these are weak for long grass and im hoping this will help. I have a broken rm480 I just picked up used.

      what do u mean by broken ? do you have a battery problem or something else?

    • @fathergratwick
      @fathergratwick 10 месяцев назад +1

      @onestop2446 it was a bad controller which is very common on these mowers from what I've read. All fixed now and I purchased lightly used lithium batteries from a fiat to install for next season as the original batteries still work but get noticeable tired after 1/2 acre of mowing

    btw you will have battery balance issues unless you periodically charge each battery individually. the 48v charger will shut off when your weakest battery hits full charge and the weakset batteries bms will shut off and kill power to the whole pack when the other batteries that didnt get fully charged go dead the imbalance grows over time and the lifespan shortens. this is a huge issue with golf carts and why a single 48v pack is recommended.
    Noco makes a special charger for this configuration to charge the 4 batteries individually and help with this issue.

      I plan on balancing as needed at 3 months all batteries are still within .01 volts

      Does that only apply to Lithium batteries?

    • @fathergratwick
      @fathergratwick 2 месяца назад

      @@freedomisfromtruth only 12v lithiums in a series.. not 12v lead acid or a 48v single pack.

      It seems like 1 48v battery would be best to eliminate charging issues, and it would be easier to remove in the winter to store indoors.

    How did you hook up the gauge and charger?

      For charging I use xt60 connectors.
      For the gauge see this video.

    I just replaced my 75Ah batteries with the Lithium 100Ah batteries. I had to cut the tensioning bolts by about 2" so the plastic cover would attach back to the rear of the mower. No big deal, just FYI. I also had to completely remove the tensioning bar on the front of the battery tray.

      I just swapped 75Ah for 100Ah also- didn't have to cut my bolts down but I did remove the front tensioning bar altogether to have enough room.
