    Thanks for the video! Note: you can open up the original controller, scrape off the rubber coating on the screws holding the wires and remove the wiring harness intact. There's 4 screws holding a plastic end retaining plate that can be removed releasing the entire harness from the metal box. The gives you more wire to work with and more options to connect to the vesc.

      I didn't see the need. Just cut them off at the controller there's plenty of wire.

    Thanks so much for detailing your fixes and upgrades.
    Despite being (slowly) superseded, these mowers are still a relatively basic, but awesome workhorse to have on an acre or 2 with the bonus of being able to be worked on and repaired.
    They're far less trouble than most petrol (gas) mowers and can continue to be refuelled by the sun......maybe even into the next decade or more.

    My ryobi starts for a second with no power, the motor won’t work to drive. If I turn on the blades it’s the same. I have batteries charged. Seems like a controller. What’s the first thing to check

    What's the advantage of crimping over soldering?

    • @Ryobi48vElectricMowers
      @Ryobi48vElectricMowers  4 месяца назад +1

      It doesn't melt the insulation off the wire especially with the tiny wires from the vesc. I try to make things easy and most people don't have good soldering skills.

    I'm installing now. Is it just 4 wires from vesc to motor (not including power) ? I'm not seeing where you hooked up other vesc wires. Excited to get it finished thanks for all the info !

      Yes just the 4. The white plug from Mower side is not used.

    Question before I try this new controller. My RM480 , I used the T/S guide and the test that failed was the hall sensor test. I had 4.5 volts between the red and black wire but when I measured between the black and other 3 wires (blue, yellow, green) each measured 14 mw when you rotate the wheel no change. You stated you didn’t need to hook up the hall sensor with the new controller. What’s your thoughts on my test results, do you think I have a bad controller or did I miss something. The mower is up on jack stands and every once in a while I can get the wheels to rotate in either direction but just for a few seconds then it stops. Thanks in advance for your advice.

      It sounds like you performed the test properly. I have seen a couple of motor with bad sensors. Up grading the controller should take care of the problem. If you have any questions it's easier to reach me in my Facebook group

    Question about the software. Are you just downloading the google or Apple app to program it? Just ordered the controller and wanted to make sure that is where I get the software.

      The free laptop version is here.
      vesc-project.com/node/17
      The phone app is in your app store I cost about $4.00 search for vesc tool

      I used the laptop for initial programming then phone app for tweaks while on the mower.
      I will be updating the video when doing the motor setup at 30 seconds of the programming portion you click on general motor then large outrunner. The rest of the video is good

    Is this for lithium batteries. Only? I have a controller failure on mine. Should I do this?

      The factory gauge won't indicate proper barrery life. Theres several options. Theres an alternative gauge that displays just like the original but is programmable for lifepo4 batteries. Or a Camway gauge. Both have videos on this channel. Or visit facebook.com/share/ieoP7QBtC9rBMuxr/?mibextid=A7sQZp

    If the white large plug is not used how do you get to reverse or turn on the blades

    • @Ryobi48vElectricMowers
      @Ryobi48vElectricMowers  Месяц назад

      I think the white connector you are talking about is the hall sensor connector. This controller doesn't need hall sensors to function.

      The controller handles foward and reverse see the wireing section.
      The deck is an independent system and not effected by this modification.
