  • Ryobi 48v Lithium Swap - Green Charging Light
Green LED Light Mod after Lithium battery swap
Original video date was about 8/13/2023
    Ryobi Zero Turn ZT480ex 48v 42" 100AH Battery swap to Lithium; LiFePO4
After my battery swap to Lithium, I lost the Green LED at the charging port, and the safety feature that prevents the mower from starting/driving when the charger is plugged in. (Which I have tried to do a few times)
    Update 5/8/2024 and 5/28/2024:
Please read the comments from others!!! (Sorry, the previous published comments were deleted by RUclips when I temporarily pulled down this video). At least two commentators explained that their Charge Ports went up in smoke. Understandably, they were not happy.
Do NOT attempt this mod if you have the “wrong” port.
If you have the 3-screw port, you can try this mod at your own risk. I think it will work.
Apparently, Ryobi has used at least two different Charging Ports on the 48v Zero Turns and Mowers, and some people have had charger port burning problems after converting to Lithium and doing this Green Light Mod. I personally experienced this issue on a friend's conversion. Jesse had a different port than mine. His went up in a puff of smoke.
The good news is that my 3-screw port worked on his mower, and that was all that was wrong; the port. The bad news; a new charging port can be hard to find. I eventually converted an EZGO port.
To make the Green Light Mod, you'll need a short piece of wire, and some soldering skills. I suppose it may be possible to crimp instead of solder.

My information for this mod came from page 41 of the Ryobi Troubleshooting manual. www.manualslib.com/manual/222...

If you’d like to use an EZGO port, (that will need to be modified), see my video:

The Ryobi charge port may be available at RyobiPower, but shouldn't be used with this green light mod:

Finally got to take the charging port to see what I have and I have the port without the screws. :-( Digging further, I noticed, the top pin is 3VDC from the original charger. So do you think a modification of sending a 3 VDC on the top pin might do the trick? What I can't figure out is when I plugged it in and measure the top pin from the other end of the port (where the wires comes out), the voltage on the top pin fluctuates (always less than 3 V).

Thank you for all your very informative videos! Have you been able to find a wiring schematic? I have found the wiring diagram only. Thank you again.
