I am an electrical engineer and know all these. Came here to comments just to approve the information, especially about charging voltage. Nice video, thanks & cheers!
Brand New ebike charged it once rode went down to 1 bar flashing, lights, panel, even wheels spin at a slow pace, tryed to charge it doesn't charge, charger doesn't even light up maybe you can help me I tried good outlets no good
He should have told people not to charge their bike after use in addition to not charging it all the way. Batteries really do not like to be sitting at 4.2vpc. So if you go on a ride on Saturday and plan on going on a ride next Sat, you shouldn't charge it until Friday night or Sat morning.
Just purchased a Rad Rover, been looking at E Bikes for about a year, and with your review , & many more , I bit the bullet & purchased one. I plan to use it to go from a boondocking site into to a town for supplies, & ride the trails. I purchased the Rad Rover because it is one of the few that will accept your large battery pack, which I intend to buy, along with your upgraded controller. I realize those upgrades will void my warranty, but I'm fairly mechanically minded, & have worked on bikes over the years (I'm 72). All ways glad to see a younger person create their own world like you have. Kudos ! The Bohemian Sojourner
I was so excited when i got my first eBike more than 5 years go that I really didn't pay close attention to battery charging details. Then one day it wouldn't charge. Your video is very informative and now that I've had my battery rebuilt and I'm back to riding, I now know how to best take care of it. THANKS! Love the t-shirt!
I just received the 24V bottle batteries and chargers for electric bicycle project, and the instructions for charging them were poorly translated, so this was very helpful. Good job, thank you.
At 03:18 you say that a 2A charger will take 5 hours to charge a 10Ah battery pack. That's another one of those "Yes...but..." answers. That's only the minimum time to reach the maximum voltage for the charger (e.g. 42.0V for a "36V" ebike battery). However, that does not include *_Balancing_* time. It can take much longer to fully balance a given battery pack (my experience has been that the LED "turns Green" only after balancing has completed, meanwhile, the LED will sit there and stay Red, even though the battery has been already charged to the maximum voltage the charger can provide). Older battery packs may take longer to balance the cells, which is much better for the pack long-term. Also in general, the Ah capacity of a lithium ion battery pack decreases with usage, so that affects charging time as well. Other factors, like cold temperatures, can lengthen charging time by quite a bit. Definitely don't try it near freezing (0C/32F).
When I purchased our two e-bikes we did not receive a manual. Although I have a tremendous amount of automotive experience, I still like reference material. After watching your video and browsing your Q&A all my concerns were answered. Great video, I will recommend to fellow riders.
brand new to the world of eBikes - building a bamboo recumbent trike for long distance travel - came across this super useful video and to cap it all had just come across the satiatior and thought wtf? but now i know - much appreciated
My charger went dead, and after watching somewhere around 20 videos, your's is the only one that I really understood. Know I know what I'm looking at when I see all that lingo on the labels. Thanks very much for this video.,
This gentleman does a great job he deals with these bikes almost every day so you’re going to find out a lot of nuances that you would not get otherwise hope to follow some of his ideas and suggestions our bikes are coming soon we went for the avenging e bikes x2
I have love bicycles well sense I learn how to ride one. I brought 2 Rad Rovers in 2017 and love EBIKEs now. But not to many EBIKEs shops around were I live. So your channel helps even when it comes to simple tasks and more complicated tasks.
For most e-bikes, are you able to unplug the battery to charge. I live in an apartment that doesnt allow bikes in the unit and would like to know if I can charge my battery upstairs and clip it on the bike downstairs when done charging
I realize this is five years ago, and Amazon still sells the Satiator but there is no connection for the Velotric proprietary connector. It’s a mini XLR with an OD 8.8mm round to round end and 7.7 mm round to flat end.
@Bolton Ebikes .... Very confused. In UK, needing an additional charger which will do same job. Has the standard/ large fittings you were showing at 04:50 ...... Says INPUT AC100V-240V ~ 1.8A MAX, 47-63Hz and OUTPUT: 42. OV ------ 2.0A. Exact model replacement unavailable. How many of these specifications have to match????!!!
Hi how r u my name is Sergio and I just got Nakto mini Cruiser 1/14/2020. I charged it as soon as I got it around 1:30 when it arrived and took it to work it work fine and everything. But I got to work I put it a charge again so from 4 till 8:30. It was charged and it went green so after my shift I went to put the battery in the bike and it wouldn't give no power at all. Till now it hasn't gave power and the battery is green
Than you, i couldn't find this answer anywhere else, can i just upgrade a 72v 2amp charger to a 72v 5 or 10amp charger for my Ebike without having to replace the controller etc.
My Juiced ebike came with a Cycle Satiator. IMHO, It's an overly complex charger that most owners don't fully understand (including me), but the one thing I wish it would do, it won't... discharge the battery! It sounds dumb, but for me, the end of the riding season happens when the weather turns bad. At that time, I want to bring the battery down to 50% soc. You'd think just ride the battery down to 50% or lower, but usually the weather is so rotton by then, I can't (I only ride in good weather... period!). To plan a ride simply to bring the battery down involves good weather, time, and having range anxiety on the 9-mile one-way bike path. These are 3 things that are difficult to plan ahead for. I'm done whining now. :)
I have a 2019 Radrover. I watched your video on converting the brakes with hydraulic brakes but keep the cables. This seems like a smart idea. I would like to order the brake conversion. I have watched a lot of your videos. Great videos
Hi great video BTW. I have 2 36v Li Batteries, one at 8Ah on my Ancheer ebike that came with bike. The other 36v 10Ah as backup battery. Both chargers same 42v output voltage and 2Amp each and same charge plug. The thing is the bike came with a 3 prong grounded plug and the other with 2 plug 🔌 no ground. Each charge both batteries but when out riding hard to find street outlets with 3 prong plugs. So I take the 2 prong plug, is there any reason or issues why 3 vs 2 prong chargers have on the battery packs?
My friend sold me an electric bike. Its a bosh 400. It did not come with a charger and the bike has been working for over 3 weeks. So do I need to purchase a charger, and where do I get from?
A charging question, does it matter if i connect to wall first, then XLR to battery or vice versa? And if I did wall to battery, does that cause a short or any damage? Thank you.
Can you help ? I've had a new Folding E-Bike 20'' in storage for the past year, i'm just about to get at it to get it out, will the battery be OK ? I only used it about 6 times when I got it, also its a 24Volt battery that slides out of the back, 168Wh (EP20FCF) will I be OK using a 24Volt 2 Amp amazon ebike charger, not sure where the original is ! Thanks and great video.....
2019/2020 Giant models have a new style 5 pin connector. Giant also charges like $300 for their "smart" charger... while everyone else sells these 36v (42v) 2-4AMP charges for $30-50... only problem is what seems like Giant's proprietary 5 pin connector... any insight where to get just the connector? then I can solder it on any generic $50 charger and keep the change... I believe everyone will want a 2nd charger at point B if they use their bike for committing from A to B but spending another $300 on the charger seems like too much of a luxury
My 48v, 500watt ebike is still going strong after 5+ years of almost-daily 5 mile rides on level ground. My charger flashes green when it gets to 80%, so most of the time I disconnect at that point. About once a month, or just before a long ride, I let it charge to 100% to balance the cells. My question: does the charger amperage have an effect on battery life? It seems like a 2 AMP charger might be easier on the battery than, say a 4 AMP charger.
I came, looking for the answer to, should you plug the charger into it's 110V wall connection first, then to the e-bike battery, or should you do it the other way around....bike, then charger into the wall? Didn't hear it here, so perhaps you could answer that Kyle?
Good video we just got our ebikes my wife's is a rad and we charged it like they said.for the first three times you charge it for twelve hours each time then after that till the green light comes on my himiway battery doesn't give a hole lot of info should I charge it like the battery on the rad? Thanks
The "Cycle Satiator" (08:35) you mentioned is ~$300...really shouldn't be that expensive. The base manufacturing cost of adding the components and firmware needed to add that functionality over and above a simple fixed-output ebike charger just isn't that much. I'd think something 20% higher retail price than that of a fixed-output charger at the upper edge of ebike voltage range (like 72V?) would be sort of "reasonable". You can buy a very flexible Lithium/NiCd/NiMH/Pb charger/discharger/storage prep/etc/etc programmable unit designed for lower voltages and wattages for less than $50, so making a unit capable of handling up to 72V and higher power in my opinion is just a scale up of an existing design and should not cost anywhere near $300.
I have a question. I have 48v battery for my e-bike which came with a 54.6v 2a charger. Will a 54.6v 4a charger shorten the life of the lithium battery? I need to know asap if I should buy or not.
In what order do the batteries charge just wondering. Like mine is a 52v i was wondering what way it charges hiw the batteries get the charge in what order.
My ebike's battery is 48v20ah. Which one would you recommend 48v2a or 48v3a or even 48v5a? Considering the lifespan of the battery and safety. If i get 48v2a, is it too weak to charge the battery? Please help answer. Thank you.
My battery when fully charged reads at 52v, is something wrong with it? As i research, it should reach 54.6 as fully charged. Please help answer so i will talk to the seller to replace it. Thank you.
Thank you, great video I have a e scooter and I have a 2A charger and it gets hot while charging The temp is 130 degrees while charging the scooter Is that normal for a 2A charger? I have a VALIEX SUPER GREMLIN V230 miles max so I am still learning Had it now 4 weeks and about 25 miles if that I have a HiBike Xduro downhill with a bosch power plant and it rocks and charges very cool FYI Your thoughts?
Good day, hope your doing better health wise mate. I’ve got Parkinson’s, and I enjoy going for a ride on my trip. I’ve got one question to ask, when I charge my battery the lights used to go all green, but now the bottom light doesn’t it stays red ? Should they all be green ? Thanks mate all the best
Whether to plug in charger first or battery first? My Biktrix says ignore charger instructions and plug in charger and then battery. For the last 15 years I have connected battery and then into outlet. What say you?
Hello nice video I have a 72volt Emmo Monster new battery's in November put charger on it last night. Nothing green light stays on/turn bike on it starts charging open for suggestions thanks
Great video, question, I thought a bike battery was good for let’s say 300 charges, I thought that was 300 charges from empty, if I only run it down to say a quarter empty, does that not mean I get 1200 charges. In your analysis. If I ride 10 miles and then charge the battery, that means I will only get, 300 x 10 miles 3000 miles out of my battery? Sorry for the long post.
Hello I had a question, should start off by stating that I have an Ancheer dyu Ebike. Had it for 2 years and still running like a champ. My issue is that just recently my charger had been on the fritz, it started flickering red and wouldn't charge. I tried it today now the light stays blank. I can hear the surge of electricity but not working. What should I do? Either get new chord replace it or whole charger ? The charger for the dyu comes in two pieces. The box and the removable chord. Thanks for your time.
Is it possible (and safe) to use a commercially available DC-to-DC charger with solar panels to charge an ebike battery? Can you do a ‘how-to’ if it is! ✌🏼
Use a PURE sine wave inverter. Maybe 1000watt should be good. It depends how many watts your charger needs, you'll want at least double that for the inverter. Then use your bike charger from the inverter. That's the safest way.
Hi I learned a great deal from your presentation. i have a question: Why my SANS E-bike Battery Charger get hot and its red indicator does not not turn green no matter how long it it hooked with the battery or even if the battery shows 100% charged. Is it a fault of battery or the charger?
Hi there. Thanks for the educational video. I have a charger from a bike I bought from a company called Lectric e bikes that I think it's faulty. I plug it into the wall and right away I see the green light. I then plugged the other end into the battery and it continues to show the green light. Why does the charger behave like that? It's supposed to show the red light as you explain in your video and green light when the battery is fully charged. I have reported it to the company among other issues. Have a brand new bike in the garage without properly using it the one it was designed.
Can an ebike battery (48v/17.5AH) be charged by a a 12v car battery? I have a 110V plug-in in my pickup. I am planning on going on a camping trip, and will be stopping at campgrounds that due not have electricity.
My charger was charging my battery since 2 pm , I woke up at 630 am. My battery was only at mode 1. Did I over charged it, where it was losing power? Also my light in my charger pack is green!
Best info yet! Thanks 👍🏼 I got The HL OIE Folding bike it said it goes up to 27 mph well what a Surprise when at 2 am I decided to go down Main St as fast as I could Surprised when it got up to 38 scared me straight I'm sure 40 could have been achieved but I'm a wimp 😢😂 ! I weigh 189 so I was shocked that Amazon specs are way lower for speed! Another thing it's been a year since I've had it I ride it everywhere No lie I've charged it 5 times! Only because I don't like it at half way I'm sure if I had let it go lower No Doubt it would be less time charging! Amazing Bike Hills are cake! And only if really steep do I pedal or if someone is in my way do I pedal a bit! Nice E-Bike I recommend 100% ❤
This is a super helpful video. My charger for my Yamaha ebike randomly doesn't light up that LED and the battery itself just flashes the lights (differently than normal) but doesn't actually get a charge. Any idea of how I might be able to fix it? Or where I can take it to get it fixed? The local bike shops near me don't seem to support Yamaha bikes and don't have expertise in batteries.
Can I charge my li-ion bike battery through the discharge plug? In my case, the discharge plug is an XT60 connector; the charging port accepts a 2.5 mm barrel connector.
Weird question. I have a 1000w pure sign charger for tons of things. Would IT help an e bike if used AT half way. I could even ne from bikes charger charging of the big one ?
Informative video, thanks. I have a question, I have a WAU S ebike and the charger isn't working. The company is in the UK, I am in the US, and they don't sell a charger for my model bike/battery combo. I can find plenty of chargers on Amazon to match the 54.6V/4A, but it has a unique charging plug. A 3 pin almost circular connector (think of a flat tire - round except the flat part). I assume this is for proper alignment for the 3 pins to plug into the battery. Can I just buy a new charger and swap out the charging cable (that is wired inside the charger)? I am not an electrician, but I have some common sense. I just don't know where my thought might be faulty. Thanks
Is there certain 48v battery chargers I have one 2A and try to read with a multimeter on the connecting port and it wouldn't read Top Volt correctly light stays green it was jumping up and down in different numbers under 30v?
hi i'm about to buy an ebike i just wondered if you can get a 12v charger you see i live on a boat and trying to do without turning my inverter on thanks Jack
Hi I have an e bike and it won't stay on, I have cleaned the ports of the bike and battery. The bike turns on after I clean the ports but then switches off shortly after. The head unit on the bike is basic and used to flash red and now that doesnt hold charge. The head unit is Giant and I'm at a loss so asking here before I take to the shop
I have a Torker ebike with the Protanium, BP-L2410SH1 Lithium Ion Polymer battery however they can not be found! Can I install a different type instead?
Was wondering if you could provide me with any info on how to repair the charging port on a speedrid fat tire folding ebike I burned mine up and now it won't charge the battery, which is fine it didn't damage the battery at all.
Absent-minded professor here who needs the cliff notes... so would it be safe to use a RadMini 4 charger (DC output +48V), on a Sondors X (its standard charger is output +42V) ? Input specs are the same between the two chargers, and both have the same connectors. Only the output specs are different.
How you can know how many watts is the bike ? And is the watts effect the speed and the distance? When I drive my battery bars keep going up and down depends on my speed !! Is that mean the battery is bad ?
If you're new to electric bikes, say hi and make a comment below! Someone will win a free t-shirt.
I just ordered my first one. Thanks for all this info to help get me started.

I generally purchase batteries with a credit card. That way, they have already been charged.
Very funny, it took me a second but then I got it!
Nice. Nothing like a good pun :)
Just don,t over charge
Joke's on you - YOU have been charged
Ha! :)

How do you rebuild a battery ?
I just received the 24V bottle batteries and chargers for electric bicycle project, and the instructions for charging them were poorly translated, so this was very helpful. Good job, thank you.
Everything from China is poorly translated, this is why it's called CHINGLISH.

Does it matter to the sequence in which you plug in the charger. Battery first then into the outlet OR outlet first then connect the battery.
Do I plug the charger to the wall first and then to my electric vehicle? Also, does charging a battery slow extend its life?
Kyle"s podcasts on EBIKES are always VERY INFORMATIVE & HELPFUL
IS IT BETTER TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERY WITH THE POWER SWITCH LOCATED ON THE BATTERY IN THE ON/OFF POSITION?
You are the only American retailer , actually promoting an Canadian product, ( satiator) from Grin technologies, great video to new e-bike owners,
Hi just visiting. I have to hub motors from CSC and the chargers provided are 2 amp but the charger has a fan. Good quality!
I'm here because my AmpedBikes battery charger died. Universal charger looks like the way to go. Thanks for the info.
I don’t know squat about Ebikes, but thanks to you and your videos l’m learning. Well done, and Thank you!

I agree about only charging up to 90% , in the news it was mentioned that the fires were caused by people overcharging their batteries
Than you, i couldn't find this answer anywhere else, can i just upgrade a 72v 2amp charger to a 72v 5 or 10amp charger for my Ebike without having to replace the controller etc.
I like the Cycle Satiator, I really think I should get one.
My battery where the key goes someone broke it and now I can't get the battery out is there a solution to my problem
Call the company who made your ebike

That was great. I'm a bit slow and I appreciate your thorough explanation. Very helpful.
Oh gawd...
I had to learn lots of this stuff when traveling with my hair dryer.
Modern day problems.
@7:18 are these things equipped with a temp sensor? my 42v 2ah gets realllly warm.
@10:09 Could you please do I video demonstrating how to mount the charger to a bike? I'm curious as to how that set up would work.
Great delivery ... clear, succinct, interesting, knowledgeable.

Good video we just got our ebikes my wife's is a rad and we charged it like they said.for the first three times you charge it for twelve hours each time then after that till the green light comes on my himiway battery doesn't give a hole lot of info should I charge it like the battery on the rad? Any tips on how to charge your bike with a portable charger if you don't have access to a traditional wall socket?
The "Cycle Satiator" (08:35) you mentioned is ~$300...really shouldn't be that expensive. The base manufacturing cost of adding the components and firmware needed to add that functionality over and above a simple fixed-output ebike charger just isn't that much. I'd think something 20% higher retail price than that of a fixed-output charger at the upper edge of ebike voltage range (like 72V?) would be sort of "reasonable". You can buy a very flexible Lithium/NiCd/NiMH/Pb charger/discharger/storage prep/etc/etc programmable unit designed for lower voltages and wattages for less than $50, so making a unit capable of handling up to 72V and higher power in my opinion is just a scale up of an existing design and should not cost anywhere near $300.
im looking for cheaper alternative too
found anything?@@oldspiced
I just bought a 60v-35ah, can i use a 71.4v- 60A charger ? Will love your response. Ty
Thank you.
Thank you, great video I have a e scooter and I have a 2A charger and it gets hot while charging
The temp is 130 degrees while charging the scooter
Is that normal for a 2A charger?
I have a VALIEX SUPER GREMLIN V230 miles max so I am still learning

Question; I have a catrike with dual batteries. My LED reads about 75% when the green light on the charger shows. Why?
Great video,
question, I thought a bike battery was good for let’s say 300 charges, I thought that was 300 charges from empty, if I only run it down to say a quarter empty, does that not mean I get 1200 charges.
In your analysis. If I ride 10 miles and then charge the battery, that means I will only get, 300 x 10 miles 3000 miles out of my battery?
Sorry for the long post.
Hi i have a question. my was charging 6hours and now is blinking red?? What do that mean?
Would having a 12 volt battery and an inverter be a way to recharge the ebike battery?
If I get another charger with matching voltage, amps output and battery connector, do I need to worry about anything else?
So from what you said, I can buy a higher amperage charger with no problems resulting?
Great video. How should you take care of a battery that may not be used for 6 months at a vacation house?
This is a super helpful video. My charger for my Yamaha ebike randomly doesn't light up that LED and the battery itself just flashes the lights (differently than normal) but doesn't actually get a charge. Any idea of how I might be able to fix it? Or where I can take it to get it fixed? The local bike shops near me don't seem to support Yamaha bikes and don't have expertise in batteries.
I just bought a ecotric bike....it comes with battery in place. How long does it take to fully charge the battery one it is plugged into the battery ?
I just got a 350 schwinn scooter but no charge. I need to know exactly what the type in and order. Thanks
Can you charge a bike while riding it? For example, a small bike trailer with a generator on it.
Can I charge my li-ion bike battery through the discharge plug? In my case, the discharge plug is an XT60 connector; the charging port accepts a 2.5 mm barrel connector.
Thank you. The more l learn the better.
Weird question. I have a 1000w pure sign charger for tons of things. Would IT help an e bike if used AT half way. I could even ne from bikes charger charging of the big one ?
Looking to spend some time off grid for a week of more. Can you help with charging using only the sun?
Thanks
I bought 2 Ariel Kepler. They are 52 volt 20AH, do you have adapters for that set up if I wanted to add a 2nd battery? Still waiting to get the bikes
Im just trying to find a good aftermarket charger gor the Jetson Haze but it seems impossible to find one...
Is there certain 48v battery chargers I have one 2A and try to read with a multimeter on the connecting port and it wouldn't read Top Volt correctly light stays green it was jumping up and down in different numbers under 30v?
Hi I have a question I have 250w motor 37v 16ah what voltage should I charge 39v or 48v
hi i'm about to buy an ebike i just wondered if you can get a 12v charger you see i live on a boat and trying to do without turning my inverter on thanks Jack
My ebike charger instructions mention having airflow indoors during charging due to gases emitting. Gases?
Clear and concise videos as always Kyle, keep em coming!
What is better for bicycle batteries, fill it in half or not full
I learned something today. Thank you for the information. Good job. I subscribed and thumbs up.
I have a Torker ebike with the Protanium, BP-L2410SH1
Lithium Ion Polymer battery however they can not be found!
Wife and I purchased each an e bike and put 4 miles on them in the first afternoon. Love them easy on the back and legs.
What's the name of this device for chargers like my 48V 21ah extended range lithium battery?
How you can know how many watts is the bike ? And is the watts effect the speed and the distance? When I drive my battery bars keep going up and down depends on my speed !! Is that mean the battery is bad ?
